X force shuts down - Droid Turbo 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello ! for some time, my phone shuts down without warning. The only way to turn it on is to plug it in to che charger even if the battery is still full. So I doubt changing the battery will make any difference. What do you think ? Any idea to fix the problem ?
[Edit] I realize my X Force is no more able to be turned on unless it's plugged in.

I had a similar issue, it was a loose battery connector

Well it required some manual skills. I'd say if you have taken a phone apart already it's ok since the battery is not buried too deep an only the back case and the metal shield needs to be removed to get to the battery connector.
If on the other hand you have not worked on phones before it is not the easiest device to take apart.
FixEz and ifixit have good guides. Get a decent quality t3 torx before you start as the bolts are very easy to strip, and especially the ones holding the metal shield are screwed in quite tight.

Thank you I have already changed some small components on some Samsung phones in the past. The trouble is very annoying... I think I should try to change it before I would buy a new one.

Thanks, I was wondering if there are any risk to compromise the phone impermeability if I open it.

I don't think that Moto X force has any IP rating... In any case if the phone is shutting down to the point of it impacting usability then you don't have that much to lose, just make backups in case things go south

Characteristics say : " IP67 certified - dust and water resistant up to 1.5 meter and 30 minutes
- MIL-STD-810G certified - salt, dust, humidity, rain, vibration, solar radiation, transport and thermal shock resistant"
That's basically one the main reasons I bought it. Anyway you're right. I should try

Are you sure we are both talking about the same phone? X forces back is made of nylon, not sure how it could be made water resistant...

I have the same problem. At about 20-30%, the phone turns off suddenly.
I can not turn it on, as it only shows me the "battery empty" picture.
When I put it to the charger, it goes and has 20%. Only once did it really only have 1%

Hi I've had a very similar problem, the DT2 just shuts down on a fairly random basis. There's a 2 part YouTube which shows the issue. The title is (Motorola Moto X Force (Droid Turbo 2) Crashing / Powering off in use - Part 2: After Factory Reset) This was happening on my phone and I assumed it was the battery. I replaced the battery, and the problem continues. It seems to occur when there's a power drain, like when opening an app that requires network or GPS access. It's much more reliable when it's plugged in. On battery power (even >80%) it can go thought several reboot cycles where I power it on, it crashes, and I power it back on etc. It will reliably restart when plugged in. My guess is there's a hardware issue with either the voltage regulator or charging circuit. Per the Youtube, a factory reset didn't solve. Replacing the battery didn't solve it for me. To troubleshoot the issue, I'm NOT able to induce the shutdown by shaking the phone in different directions, so I would doubt it's a connector issue. It also occurred before and after a battery swap. Unfortunately I think this is a hardware issue. Too bad this is a nice phone.

Update, 18 Nov 2018, my phone continued to get worse until it was unusable. I decided to try another replacement battery. After replacing the battery, the phone is again performing as designed. It appears that my original battery went bad, and the "new" replacement I got off ebay was also bad. This time I paid particularly close attention to the battery wire connector due to the other posts here. The wire seemed to be solidly attached. When I reassembled it, I also placed a couple of pieces of tape on top of the battery connector to add some additional pressure when it's reassembled. There's a metal bar held down by two screws which holds the battery power connector together. I put a couple of pieces of tape to reduce the space and put more pressure on the connector.

Old battery does not keep the proper values of power. It can be below minimum voltage, even when charged to maximum, then phone will shut down randomly.

My bad water experience

Ciao!
Yesterday i was shooting with my Z in a swimming pool (using the volume- mod).. After 5 or 6 photos i noticed that the volume- stopped to work, also in the camera and in the system. I was wondering if was an hardware or software issue, so i rebooted the device and tried to boot in recovery but the volume- didn't work. When the device started android was in "Safe mode". After 10 minutes the device shutted down and i wasn't able to power on it again.
All the caps was definetly close. I think some water was entered by the volume-.
When i tried to plug the micro USB the device vibrated once and after 5 seconds vibrated 3 times and loop back again.
After this i leave the device in a cup full of rice. This morning, after 15h, the device started up as usual.
So be careful using the volume- underwater.
Bye bye
PS. Excuse for my bad english.
I doubt it's the volume button.

I know that the Z isn't supposed to be waterproof but i'm not the only one who used it for underwater shots.
I used it yesterday underwater and also have the volume camera mod. I had no issues at all. It worked great and kept getting ohhh's and awww's when I showed my friends what my phone can do. LOL

Z is supposed to stand up to 30 minutes underwater, max 1 meter deep.
It also tells you in the manual not to go swimming with it!
Its rated against accidental splashes and a quick dunk, not farting around in a pool with your drunk mates!

Actually it's rated to withstand up to 1m of water for up to 30 minutes, a bit more than accidental splashes and a "quick dunk", but granted, swimming with it is a different kettle of fish...

Z - Water resistant
ZR - Waterproof
From a Sony marketing perspective
The average man is about 1.8meters tall give or take about a few cm.
So I guarantee most of these underwater pics are more than 1meter deep and fall outside of the "safe" zone and therefore when you press your volume keys and use your phone the pressure causes water to creep in. Contrary to popular belief the depth is way more important than the time limit they gave. The phone could probably last hours near the surface but seconds if taken too deep due to pressure.

What does that prove, apart from the fact that you are irresponsible with your belongings? It doesn't alter the fact that Sony never said the phone was water proof. Only water resistant.
@Sebastian22122
Did you mean ' wasserdichtigkeit'? That can be translated as water resistance. As anyone learning a second language knows, translation is not an exact science. Some words do not have a definitive translation and several translations can be correct.

Z1 Speakers after taking using it in water

I don't know if this is a problem really but when I use my Z1 in water (testing if waterproof) the speaker works with really bad sound but after a little while it adjusts itself back to normal. Do you guys have this happening to you too?

Well it's waterproof, but this doesn't mean that your phones changes Gravity and pushes away the water from it.
Water has to vaporize or fall off so it won't work perfectly just after taking the phone out of water.

Yeah, I just thought that the water couldn't pass the exterior of the phone but I was wrong.
In the manual says that after put into water you have to wait 3 hours until water vaporize completely, so its very normal....

If the microphone and speakers were completely sealed, they would be useless. That's just physics, you lose most of the sound when you go from air to a solid layer, and then to air again. The waves need to stay on the same medium to have good propagation, so, you can't have a physical layer between you and the speaker. In other words, a waterproof phone speaker is very, very hard to do, and impossible to do on a thin shell. You shouldn't use the speaker and microphone for a few hours after submerging the phone, they won't perform very well.

Itz also happens in my z2 but nothng wrng it recovers withn 30min....
It is indeed a membrane over the speakers and mic. It keeps that water out but I believe it is acoustically transparent when dry. The headphone jack has a seal that gets pushed down to when headphones are inserted. So never insert headphones whilst still wet.

Seems like the Z1's are tearing apart

As soon as I got my Z1 I started hanging out in the Z1 section on XDA and I have noticed quite a few people with problems like the flaps falling off or the phone being water damaged. My friend got his Z1 about 2 weeks ago, he's not really a tech guy and only uses his phone for Facebook texts and calling but yesterday his phone just shut off for no reason on 82% and couldn't for the life of him start the phone up so he called me and I just randomly suggested for him to hold the power and volume up button for 10 seconds whilst having the phone connected to a charger and voila it worked.
What I am trying to say is that it feels like the Z1 has quite a few flaws, software as well as the hardware.
Don't get me wrong, I still love my Z1 and wouldn't trade for any other phone right now.
And there are people whose flaps don't fall off and go swimming with their Z1 without any probs or so they claim.
Anecdotes. They work both ways

Hey man,
I own my z1 for 3 months already and I've tried everything on my Z1 (including swimming). I don't find any problems on my phone, so perhaps he should ask Sony to check out his phone as he is still in the warranty I assume?
Cheers! Z1 the best.
I'm not sure what some of those people are doing to their Z1. My Z1 has been great to me so far. Also noticed a few people complaints the battery life sucks which I think is a false accusation because I use my Z1 to listen to music at work 6-8 hours a day together with constant texting, facebooking, some youtube/netflix activities, some gaming here and there and I would still have 40% or more battery life at the end of the day without stamina mode activated. With stamina mode activated from full charge I was able to use the phone with similar activities for 2 days and 9 hours before having to charge it at 1% left. The only complaint I have about this phone is the lack of "manual" controls in Manual mode for the Camera app. I wish it would let me manually adjust my shutter speed, and aperture. Though I have a DSLR for real photography it just great to have those adjustment on hand for when I don't have my DSLR with me. After all the Z1 posses great potential. Also it gets pretty warm sometime while using google chrome. Hopefully in kitkat update Sony will greatly improve the camera app or at least will get to it in the near future.
I haven't try the waterproof capability yet as I don't get warranty since I bought the phone 2nd hand. I'll let that happens more naturally like the other members

What I thought about the flaps when I got it: There sturdy and there not in danger of falling off.
Now: After roughly 1 month of pulling the flaps out. They have gotten considerably weaker and I do believe it would fall off eventually so I bought a dock. Much better experience for my phone.
Used the flaps once and that was to insert sim and sd I haved never charged through micro usb I use the magnetic dock charger and it seems to charge faster than usb (done a test with my mate and his z1 both from 1%) overall im happy with device mind you this is my second on as tye microphone stopped working on first one

By the way I also don't have a case for this phone, I did get an aluminium bumper case for it, that was great but I got fed up of the added bulk and when holding it the edges dug into my fingers and caused mild discomfort so I reverted to the naked Xperia Z1. So far so good. No case for a month now. It has one or two very mild scratches on the back but there to very very hard to see. But I still have the screen protector on the back I'm not worried. In comparison I dropped my Galaxy S3 a few days after I got it and the sides scratched, the silver paint came off. I've never dropped this because it's not nearly as slippery as my i9300.

My friend if you could read my first post is a basic user IE he doesn't have any advanced experience in rooting and such and only uses his phone to text, surf and call. Hmm...I'm reading this and can't believe.
My Z1 is perfect, I have XU, XS and I'll buy Z2 when Sony release it - never had any problems with Xperia's.
I just love that devices...
Screen is perfect, touchscreen problems?-never had something like that...
Battery is awesome (2-2,5 days without any problems)
Flaps are great, although, I'm using magnetic charger, my device is often connected to PC (for developing/theming) and they are still great.

Keep in mind that I only said that my Z1 has the flaps problem, they are getting weaker and weaker everytime.
Also one question to all of you saying that you're using magnetic charger, so just because we have a magnetic charger does it mean that it's ok for Sony to make the flaps the way they are right now? The flaps are there so you can open and close them, that doesn't mean that we shouldn't use them just because there is a magnetic charger.
I've had my phone since October and opened and closed the USB flap at least once a day. It's still fine.
FOr me i think it's still depend on your luck
no problems here either, this is one of the best made phones I've ever seen. Definitely no more issues with this phone than any other.

Phone Dead?

I recently dropped my phone into the toilet water.... i quickly removed it and i volume down and power to force it off.. after 2 days i checked the phone again.. it didnt on but i plug the charger.. there was a red led only.. i tried many unbrick methods but i dont think my phone is bricked. I opened up the insides of the phone and all the water has gone and theres no water stuck or anything.. dry
but my nexus 4 is still on red led when plugged in.. I think its battery problem?
I think it's not messed up completely. You should take it to service center ASAP instead of guessing what happened to it.

You probably just need a new battery. Everything else should be working fine. Best thing to do is take everything apart and clean them with isopropyl alcohol, then let them dry, buy a new battery and you ll have a working phone again. Sometimes some other components might have problems, like camera or mic/speakers, which are all cheap as spare parts. Plenty of videos on YouTube on how to fix water damage.

How to break the phone? (with full story)

Hi, i'll start with explanation.
I bought Mi A1 in december 2017, after month touchscreen stopped working.
So phone landed on a service 4 times - they was saying that everything is working great. After 4 months they changed front panel.
Finally i had my phone repaired, but of course it was not a happy end. After some time xiaomi stopped charging battery and 10min later i saw a black screen. On a computer it was recognized as a quallcomm something. It was not turning on.
So it was a second defect of my phone - in my country i have a legal right to get a full money refund or a new phone. So i went to shop, they sended phone to service to confirm that phone is broken.. and guess what?
They repaired my phone, but officialy writed that phone was in excellend condition and nothing was repaired.
Its really annoying becouse after all my phone spended 80% time of its lifetime on a repair.
That's why i'm asking You guys - how to destroy a phone without a "customer foult"?
Download the tissot factory images somewhere. Install a hex editor and open up sbl1.img. Go ahead and replace everything in there with zeros. Then run the flash tool. It won't get too far in booting . Say it started getting really hot and powered off. Say you don't feel safe using this phone and it needs to be fixed. Hopefully they wont figure out what's wrong with it.
Good luck. Remember, this is all a hypothetical. Warranty fraud is wrong!
Well thanks for Your answer. I know i'm asking for something unethical, but they cheated me first :/
I was thinking about shooting with a lighter ignition on a charging socket, maybe its a better idea?
Overclock CPU and burn it xD (not sure if it is not customer's fault, but thats just my idea)
They may say that's your fault and u will have broken phone with no repair option. I think its not worth it.

It sucks for sure, but if you phone is now working, move on. If the phone breaks again calmly and gently ask to speak to a manager. Have a list of returns, dates, and faults and the total time you have not had your phone. Try to remember all the staff you have spoken to and shown the errors.
Ask the manger, again very clamly, how they would be feeling if this happened to them. Also ask the manager what sort of resolution they would be expecting if it was their phone.
Destroying your phone is not the answer and there is a high probability that it will end badly for you. Put it down to a life experience and learn from it. Use it to improve your negotiation sklills with the manager and take pride in keeping your calmness in this sort of time.
You might just be suprised in the outcome. But if you phone is working, just use it and let the past go.
That's my 2 cents.
