Hi Everyone,
I just got a #Xiaomi #miband killer in the mail today - #huawei #honor band 3. It's amazing!
But how to #hack it??
I'm guessing it runs a proprietary OS based off of Linux. Not sure. I'm no IT expert but there's lots of them here and the Honor Band is the BEST SELLING #fitnessband in Asia.
Looking forward to your tips and tricks for this amazing tech.

Keon + FirefoxOS
I'm using a Keon GeeksPhone with FirefoxOS.
It's working good! I found some limitarions and problems, but since it is a developer preview phone/system, is working very well.
I post some comments on my blog (in Portuguese)
You can see more devices working ready in the Mobile World Conference.
Looking forward to investing in the Peak

Sorry to bother, but do you recall what your order number was? Geeksphone order checking website is down, and while I know my order number, I have no idea what the timing of the shipment looks like.
Many thanks!
For those of you that have received them:
How is email (specifically Gmail) handled in FF OS right now? Is it just the mobile web version, or are there any clients with that have better offline functionality?
Google searches and searching the FF marketplace aren't turning up much-- maybe it's time to start a building an email client in my free time?
Is Firefox OS growing at all.? Active development.?

Hello all.
Recently looking at all those innovative cheap non-chinese smartwatches I've got an obsession on picking ones for some random development.
How about we gather some little info on devices ready for custom upgrades and firmwares. Certainly this doesn't include android wear devices as they are ready for development.
Almost all cheap smartwatches do not allow installation of custom apps and some can't even show the time without being connected with your phone!
But some of them allow firmware upgrading/flashing... So I'm looking for any device having some native sdk or compatible with arduino toolkit or anything else.
1. A perfect example of what am I looking for is sony smartwatch mn2. They already have:
- open smartwatch project with it's ported arduino toolkit
- star wars game on mn2
I would probably pick those but they're pretty old and lack some sensors.
2. The second one is weloop tommy. (suggested by qkall and raicg)
These have a huge standby time (I guess more than the first pebble), waterproof but they have accelerometer inside only and no touchscreen. I guess the price is huge comparing to others.
Still there is an opensource project around with a custom firmware.
As I understand a huge work is done and the device was carefully examined and all that pin-out stuff was collected to make it working and you're pretty ready to go with development of your own features.
My next possible targets are mt2502 based watches as there are some stuff (mediatek linkit) around on mediatek site.
I'm unsure if this sdk will allow to do something with randomly picked mt2502 watches.
So I'm interested in any info if someone tried this or had any other success on development/moding of their watches.
Thx.
I feel like I'm being a bit slutty with this today... but the Weloop Tommy might be interesting to you:

They are nice but their price is huge when you think about their hardware.

I didn't mean any watches that have official firmware binaries.
I'm talking about totally customized firmwares, original firmware sources, sdk toolkits for mt6260/2502 soc or arduino toolchain port.
I want to pick some cheap smartwatches like u8/u80/20$-45$ and do some coding.
I wonder if someone who have mt2502 device would check the mediatek sdks on the possibility to build custom firmware (look for mediatek labs linkit one sdk, that SoC has mt2502 cpu and complete IDE).
Also most cheap devices use mt6260 but I didn't find much info about it.
I'm glad that someone answered me and thanks for you replies!
u8 customization
I just received 2 U8's in the mail. I'm keeping one in a new state, but the other is ready for the lab...where do we begin?
Pacman8521
I suggest to you the weloop
The great on weloop smartwatch is the battery time, up to 21 days! And it's waterproof!
One user has a open firmware project of weloop Smartwatch: https://hackaday.io/project/4510-open-source-sportsmart-watch
Take a look, it's open firmware.
I got some infomation about mtk2502
it seems have rtos sdk,I am not sure if we can flash our custom firmware to the target watch

how do you guys think?
If you live in the US and buy a standalone watch, chances are they will stop working in the near future as the 2G band comes to end. To that point, I have a few questions I hope someone more versed in smartwatches than me can answer:
1) Why invest in a standalone watch now, if you live in the US, if it will soon cease to operate as a standalone? It just seems like a waste of money unless you have plenty of it.
2) Why aren't the smartwatch makers releasing any US models with US bands? I know we are not the biggest market, but we have to be a decent market for these watches.
3) Are there any smartwatches that include US bands?
4) Is it that difficult or costly to include these bands? Is it strictly a hardware component?
5) Are there any companion or tethered watches, where the bands wouldn't matter, that will work well with iPhone? Most I have tried with my iPhone just don't work quite as well as they do with an Android phone,
I appreciate any insight that can be provided. These may seem like simple questions to some, however, I just can't see spending over $100US on a smartwatch that will soon become less functional.
With all the knowledge and expertise around this thread, I thought I would get some response. Any help would be appreciated.
My ultimate decision in the next week or so will be 6T or Mate 20 Pro.
I really wish 6T included dual GPS. My understanding is it locks in quicker in built up areas.... with so much of my time in CBD I really would LOVE this.
Any hope of a surprise on launch?
Don't most phones now support GPS and the Russian (or European) variant called GLONASS and there is a 3rd one that is Chinese u thought.

You are correct, but my question is different and should have used better terminology - apologies.
What I'm hoping for in the 6T is "Dual Frequency GPS". Xiaomi first introduced it in their Mi 8 and now Mate 20 Pro has it.
Details and benefits can be found: https://www.androidauthority.com/dual-frequency-gps-878169/
I'm never excited about these launches anymore since they always seem to hold things back. I'd love to see dual freq gps in the 6t though. That would be a geocacher's dream. We'll know tomorrow.
Ahhh. Thanks for the info. Interesting.

Think its unwise to hold your breath waiting for dual frequency GNSS. Seems that even when the GPS hardware is installed, the phone makers are happy to advertise and promote it.......even if it isn't activated or is non-functional. Here is an excellent article to fill in the sorry blanks...

We are all disappointed with the lack of software support from the manufacture and have been extremely lucky to have some excellent Dev. support over here on XDA. The Mi Mix 3 5g is a cult handset by design and I think it would boost it's longevity and functionality considerably if we could side load Ubuntu Touch onto this underrated handset. Being an open source project this would have to be a community effort and at present I am trying to gather the various building blocks and information required. As I understand we would need
Kernel source code
Drivers
Anyone who has experience of developing, would this be possible on the Mi Mix 3 5g and how much functionality could be retained under Ubuntu?
Please. I'm a mix 3 5g owner and i love Ubuntu. this is a great idea!

Welcome aboard! Let's try to spread the word and get some traction
I always loved Sailfish and Ubuntu. Never saw it on any of my device, would do it on my own if i had a good pc and some knowledge hahaha. Anyway i've got a 4G Mi Mix 3 version, but after eol support i'd like to change . My dad has 5G version and would be great for him to have ubuntu on, i'll follow

I would also have a go if I had the time to commit. The beauty is that it can be dual bootable, best of both worlds. Maybe a go fund me page to finance a developer? Now the price is coming down of the actual handset it makes the project accessible to a much wider Ubuntu friendly audience.
Well that could be an option if users are interested in it enough
