What do you think the probability of some of the "software" features demoed on the Pixel 3 will be ported to the Pixel 2 via Magisk, Xposed, Root etc?
Features im most intrested in is:
Playground - Finally i can meet Iron Man. Lol (It kinda sounded like google said these will be coming to Pixel and Pixel 2 later although i dont remember Pixel 1 having the AR chip soooo.
Call screen - I WANT THIS!!!!!!!!
The rest of the phone was pretty "Meh" I guess "NightSight" looked pretty cool.
Many new features will be available on all Pixel phones in a month or so according the the Made by Google event. I've watched it twice now. Maybe I'll make a list this evening when I watch again. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EsoQGTA1SxY
edit - I do remember Night Sight will come to all Pixels.

Interesting because after i watched the made by google event i watched MKBHD's impressions video. Turns out he was invited to Google HQ a few months ago to film and try out all the products he said that Google said other then the Hush feature they would all be exclusive to the Pixel 3

I've had the "Hush" feature for at least 5 years on a Galaxy Nexus, S4 Active, Nexus 6, Pixel 2 XL with Tasker!
P3 features coming to other Pixel phones.

Yeah I want call screen!
Hopefully some clever dev gets it ported to pixel 2.
Both night sight and call feature is coming to pixel and pixel 2s. Not sure about the new playmojis but I'm sure once someone get their hands on the apks. We can install them on our pixels.

Yup. I just went through the event video again. Night Sight is at ~1:18 and Playground at 1:20.
Photo Booth, High Res, Motion Auto Focus, and new Portrait features are not clear in the video if yes or no. If it is a software feature, Google seems to deliver it to all Pixel phones. (fingers crossed)
https://blog.google/products/photos/keep-your-favorite-photos-date-live-albums/
At the bottom, it says - "These new editing features will be available on Pixel 3 and other phones that support portrait photos including Pixel 2 and Motorola phones such as the Moto G6."
So it confirms that the portrait editing shown WILL be on Pixel 2 devices too!
ALSO:
https://www.blog.google/products/go...fferently-playground-and-google-lens-pixel-3/
This states - " Google Lens is available on all Pixel devices, with Playground on Pixel 3 first and coming to Pixel 1 and 2 soon"
Therefore all older pixel devices will be getting Playground too!

Hell yeah!!
Any issues with the 6.1 camera apk on the pixel 2 xl? The APK targets a lower dpi than the phone's value.
I'll wait for the Pixel 3 ROM Port to Pixel 2 ?

After you take the photo, go to edit and in the second option look for depth. That's your blur setting

With 2 weeks to go, the excitement is palpable. For stock Android fans this is the only option.
Indian fans, time to get discussing on the upcoming "designed by Google" beauty.
Introduction
Ask more of your phone! Welcome to the world of cohesiveness - software and hardware designed to work together.
Specifications
The Pixel 2 features a 5-inch Cinematic 127-mm full-HD (1080x1920) display, while the Pixel 2 XL features a 6-inch QHD+ (2880 x 1440) P-OLED at 538ppi with 18:9 ratio. Both the displays also come equipped with 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5. Neither of the handsets have the 3.5mm headphone jack, so there is that you should keep in mind before you place the order. It wasn't immediately clear how soon customers in India will be able to place an order for either of the smartphones.
The Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and 4GB of RAM. The handsets come in 64GB and 128GB storage variants. The Pixel 2 has a 2700mAh battery, while the Pixel 2 XL has a 3520mAh battery. On the photography front, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL offer the industry-best camera sensors. Both the phones house a 12.2-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture and optical and electronic image stabilisation. The front facing 8-megapixel camera has an aperture of f/2.4.
Distinguishing features
Software
Google Pixel 2 ships with Android 8.0.0 Oreo, with a minimum of three years of OS and security updates promised. With Google Pixel, the company had introduced a new Pixel launcher and a host of other Pixel Exclusive features. This time around, Google Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL ship with a new Android launcher.
Google Assistant now with Google Lens
Google’s answer to Siri and Alexa is one of the Pixel’s biggest features. Google Assistant is even more advanced and capable; With a year of improvements it’s even more contextually aware to what’s happening on your devices and can tap into popular third-party apps like WhatsApp and OpenTable. The lens feature is completely mindblowing and worth the long wait - exclusive for Pixel owners for now!
Pixel Camera
Exceeds Expectations!
Camera is one of the fronts where Google has made significant improvements. Google’s Pixel 2 smartphone now includes optical image stabilisation and support for ‘bokeh’ feature among others. The 12.2MP rear camera comes with 1.4μm aperture size, autofocus with laser and dual pixel phase detection as well as f/1.8 aperture. Bokeh feature is mostly limited to dual camera phones, but Google says Pixel 2 takes advantage of advanced software to achieve bokeh-styled photos.
Google Pixel gets a 12.3 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture, and 1.55μm pixels. Other features include autofocus, phase detection autofocus, laser detection autofocus, and dual LED flash. The front camera in both Pixel and Pixel 2 is 8MP with 1.4μm pixels, and f/2.4 aperture.
Unlimited backups of photos and 4K videos at original quality
Pixel buyers get worry-free backup with Google Photos. All photos and videos (even 4K recordings) can be backed up — for free — with Google's cloud service. Full resolution backups are promised till 2020.
24/7 voice and chat support
If you’ve got a problem with either Pixel phone, you can head to the settings menu and immediately launch a voice call or chat session with Google’s customer support team. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. From there, you can also choose to allow screen sharing so that the Google employee can control your device and show you firsthand how to fix whatever's not working right.
What about India?
India is among the first wave of countries that the new Pixels will be available in. While the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL will be available from over 1,000 offline stores in the country, they will be exclusively available online via Flipkart. The smartphones will be up for pre-orders in India on October 26 - the former goes on sale on November 1 and the latter on November 15.
Prices
Pixel 2 (64GB) : Rs. 61,000
Pixel 2 XL (64GB) : Rs. 73,000
Pixel 2 (128GB) : Rs. 70,000
Pixel 2 XL (128GB) : Rs. 82,000
A little pricey.. but I cant wait for it.
Wonder if we'll be getting any freebies.. No mini here, as its not supported in India. Maybe they'll include a pair of USB-C headphones in the box which they arent doing in the US.

Yeah well all phone companies have lost it as far as pricing is concerned. Im hoping atleast 10,000 cashback though. Especially because Pixel resale in India is abysmal.

Its not just India. Resale of this device is terrible. And now that devs have sworn off of them I bet the price will most likely go down for resale value.

Any reason why devs are staying away?
Flipkart is a rip off when it comes to resale. It doesn't seem to care whether you have a pixel 64 or 125 gig version. I've noticed that its exchange quotes different prices for the same phone, while trying to buy different phones (Eg. Galaxy s8 vs s7) Cashify in fact offers way better selling price. Pixel 2 XL being 73k, I for one really need to get my current xl off first - but definitely not at some throwaway 10k.

Dual partition layout makes developing for it a huge pain. To a point that some have added it to things to avoid when getting a device. Also you lose things do to Google using a lot of closed Sourced system files on the device.

I don't see how long devs can avoid DP though. I have a feeling it would be standard on most phones in a couple of years - the benefits are too many for oems.
Ironically it was hailed by the dev community initially - claims of easy dual booting etc.
Damn way too costly for regular users to buy either Pixel or IPhone. Not sure where are we heading too, from a 25k Nexus 4 to 80k phones..

Manish although I agree that phone prices are getting preposterous. However i feel that it's unfair comparing the Pixel to the Nexus 4. The Pixel is on a higher level than the Nexus6/6p. The Nexus 4/5 although cheap, were cheap because of hardware compromises. Screens, cameras, builds were all in line with the price. With the Nexus 6 we started seeing actually flagship level hardware. Pixels are even higher because now they are trying to use the best hardware, best software and MOST IMPORTANT are spending a buttload on marketing. This last thing gives us nothing but is essential if Google has to continue making excellent iPhone level hardware.
In any case, I have seen some spectacular deals on last year's Pixel devices. And the new Pixels aren't a huge leap over last year's Pixels. Maybe try those? I promise they are worth it.

The smaller one is shipping at the end of Oct. The 2 XL will go on sale on 15th Nov.
Pre orders start on 26th Oct.
And the Pixels last year went on sale in Oct too. I bought mine in Oct.
the 2XL is going on Sale in the UK on 15th Nov too, but they have had the demo units in stores for a few days now. We should be getting one pretty soon.
I have been reading too many horror stories about the colour saturation and tint on the Pixel 2 XL screen. Unless we see the phone in person, it would be difficult to make a judgement. Not sure how much this issue will affect sales here in India.
Happy Diwali to everyone!
I have just got pixel 2 and have installed google camera mod on U11 and then took picture of same scene from two phones to see the difference in quality if exist.. here is comparison

Thanks a lot. Very interesting to see.
I would say in low-light, which to me says most about a sensor's capability, they are virtually even. A really tiny bit more detail/texture on the Pixel 2 if you look at some of the letters on those signs:
- the "th" in threshold (in the middle next to the 40 sign)
- Trinity Industrial Estate (to the right of the church)
- the yellow sign that obviously says "Store" on the far right below "we make hoses"
I am wondering how much of the final quality is due to the camera software algorithms. Since you use`d the modded Gcam on the U11, they should be pretty equal, right?
Right now, I am looking for a new phone with a better camera than my Nexus 5X, which I didn't expect to be that hard to find since the 5X is almost 3 years old. The Pixel 2 to my surprise didn't make much difference in daylight (the 1.55 µm sized sensor pixels just make up for the smaller f/2.0 aperture). And I returned it instead of excessively testing it in low-light for other reasons.

very much same if you are using google camera and even stock camera is comparable to pixel 2 ....Pixel 2 have slight advantage only if you extra zoom photos( will see more details in pixel 2) but not much differnce if you look at photos without zooming
I think U11 is underarted phone while there is too much marketing hype about pixel 2 camera . I prefer screen of U11, extra external storage of u11, Prefer sound of U11( more fuller/deep sound ) , prefer battery of U11( gave me 7 to 8 hours screen on time on 4G mostly surfing web on chrome, youtube, whatsapp and skype, facebooke tc while pixel 2 is giving maximum between 4-5 hours on same usage and brightness) and best of all it was cheaper than pixel 2 with all these advanatges
camera and waterproofing is very much same . Pixel 2 is just more compact and light and small screen are easy to use with one hand but then bigger screen has its advanatge when you surf web or watch media on big screen
I am ctually thinking to return pixel 2 and keeping U11

Camera is very important for me so i have used many phones in the past to find the phone which offer best photography experince and good overall as well. I have used nexus 5X, Pixel XL, S7 edge. S9 slightly for few days and now have u11 and pixel 2 etc. I am thinking which one to keep for personal use and to be honest pixel 2 did not impress me much . Camera perfomaces have not change much since last 2/3 generation ( from nexus 5x/6p to Pixel 2 or from galaxy s7 to s9). there are some tweaks here and there but nothing much significant to justify doube or triple price . Nexus 5x/6p still take excellent pictures ..they struggle in taking pictures of moving objects like ( taking ohotos of moving cars, kids etc) then pic come out blurry sometime and thastwhere pixel 2 or galaxy amera have some edge over nexus 6p/5X and there is also some imrovemnet in capturing video
Now to answer your second question i have taken the pictures of same day and night scene from U11 stock camera, U11 google camera and Pixel 2 camera with HDR on and leave it for you to judge

Thanks alot rmc69 and looper_98!
I've bought Pixel 2 on March and after used a couple of days, I decided to sold it out. The U11 cam is under-rated while the Pixel2 cam is on the opposite side.
The WB is always more accurate on U11 and Pixel2 got yellow warm feel or say over saturated colour tone like Samsung style but I think Samsung does better. In reality, Pixel2 loves to increase shutter speed though it real reduced the handshake but photo/video easy to turn out darker.
To be fair, Pixel2 got some advantages like the 3rd parties camera chip which I found useful when the app get supported and will let you shoot auto HDR+ but since most of us will only run stock htc cam or gcam modded, this feature isn't demand but still good to have it. Another goodies is 4K EIS+OIS and I think this is the only thing I love Pixel 2 but again, the reviews or comments of this staff on net is over-rated though it smoothed out the shaking nice but when you walking fast it won't be useful at all(I know many claimed it is working even running provided with proved videos but I just can't reproduce the result on my own).
I have a HTC U11+, and I find that even compared to Pixel2Mod-Arnova8G2-UltraMinimalSettings-Tolyan009-v1.apk, I get the best results using GoogleCamera-Pixel3Mod-Arnova8G2-V1.apk
Colour balancing seems to be the most accurate so far (the others I've tested seem to come out a bit too yellowish), HDR+ Enhanced seems to be much faster (especially since I set mine to Exposure *4), but one of the drawbacks seems to be that the output images are visibly darker.

Cannot say how much camera of u11 plus is different to U11 but Pixel 2 quality is not much different to HTC U11 when using googel camera if you check comparison in previous photos . It improve low light photgraphy significantly . I have actually returned my pixel 2 because i think HTC U11 is better overall in others aspect

Which version pixel 3 camera port with night sight have you got? What settings do you have?
Assuming (and we all are almost certain now) that the leaked images of pixel 3xl are right, and assuming the Chinese manufacturers who started making screen protectors and cases for the P3XL are accurate, i wanted to see how bad the notch could be in real life, and compare sizes with P2xl, so i bought one of the Chinese screen protectors for p3xl and started comparing it to my P2xl.
I can confidentially say that P3xl is 95% or more in size with P2xl, to a level that we can say ITS a P2xl with a screen stretched up around the notch..
You can see in the attached photos, putting the P3xl screen protector over the P2xl screen, the notch is as deep as the top bezel of P2xl, and the bottom bezel is almost identical in each..
Size is also identical, both phones have the same overall size (in screen protector photo over the back of P2xl)
Side bezels are more slimmer for my eyes..
Photos attached should clear everything out..
Thanks for clearing that i dont need to buy pixel 3 this year ?

What he said!!
This is definitely going to be a dud, sticking with the Pixel 2 XL.
My Pixel 3xl is looking more and more like a OnePlus 6t!
Versus the Pixel 2 XL:
-Most likely a very similar LG P-OLED display (but notched): Nothing groundbreaking
-Still 4GB of RAM: So don't expect less app reloads
-Snapdragon 845: Slightly faster than the Snapdragon 835 in real-life usage, probably not even noticeable in most scenarios
-Supports wireless charging: Cool feature but not exactly a game changer (Coming from a Galaxy S7 edge, I don't miss it)
-Smaller battery
The only question mark that remains is the camera: Will it be vastly superior to the already great Pixel 2 XL camera? I have a strange feeling the hardware (sensor, lenses, etc.) will be the same, with only a tweaked camera app (that will be ported for the Pixel 2 XL anyway)
The more I think about it, the more I struggle to understand why the Pixel 3 XL exists.
It exists for OG Pixel owners to upgrade to.

-Supports wireless charging: Cool feature but not exactly a game changer (Coming from a Galaxy S7 edge, I don't miss it)
The only question mark that remains is the camera: Will it be vastly superior to the already great Pixel 2 XL camera? I have a strange feeling the hardware (sensor, lenses, etc.) will be the same, with only a tweaked camera app (that will be ported for the Pixel 2 XL anyway)
The more I think about it, the more I struggle to understand why the Pixel 3 XL exists.

Versus the Pixel 2 XL:
-Most likely a very similar LG P-OLED display (but notched): Nothing groundbreaking

Usually people upgrade every 2 years. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL may not be much better than the Pixel 2 or Pixel 2 XL since they're only a year old, but it's a pretty good upgrade from the original 2 year old Pixel or Pixel XL. Personally I can't wait to get a Pixel 3 XL. It will be a massive upgrade from my dying Nexus 6P.
People ***** and moan about the notch and chin, but I think the Pixel 3 XL is a fine looking device. I guess I'm like one of those parents who thinks their child is adorable even though it's ugly as sin...

Exactly - if you hide the notch via blacking out its "corners", the Pixel 3 XL will look decent - almost like the 2 XL. If there is no default option for this, I'm sure that there will be Substratum overlays to do so.
I won't upgrade my 2 XL this year, this is completely pointless. But if my contract would be due for a new device, I'd definitely get the 3 XL.
The Pixel 3 is simply not worth upgrading from the Pixel 2. We get the camera update, same amount of RAM, the only major change is the processor from 835 to 845. Definitely not worth the money, considering how fast depreciation ocurrs. Most of the High End devices, LGV40, Galaxy S9, Pixel 3, seem to be at a standstill when it comes to any significant upgrades from their successor. The. Previous versions are nearly identical, Qualcomm 835 vs 845 is minimal, camera improvements are insignificant, with possible exception to the LG V40s 5 camera system. Anyone upgrading to latest version from previous versions is wasting money.
I currently have a Pixel 2XL and am starting to itch for an upgrade. I was excited for the Pixel 4XL but I can't justify the price for what you get. Then the OnePlus 7 Pro caught my eye and I'm considering buying that with the Black Friday deal.
Do you guys think it would be worth waiting for the OnePlus 8 Pro (April-May 2020) or should I just pull the trigger on the 7 Pro with it's current discount?
I'd go for the OP7Pro if the black friday discounts are substantial. selling the OP7Pro in future will not suffer much loses if you wish to change phones in future.
Get the 7Pro for the win! Then trade up to the 8 later...
Getting the OnePlus 7Pro was the largest jump in phones as far as tech/display and just all around happiness with the device(previously used the LG G7/Mi Mix 3). Easily money well spent and to be honest, if i completely bricked this one i would try to buy another one to replace it.
Well I heard the 8 is gonna have a hole punch. So if you want the gorgeous display get the 7pro

HOLE PUNCH?!?!???! BLEGGHH. I cant go from a full, un-interrupted display to a silly looking punch hole in my screen. I really loved the look on the Mi Mix 3 and i love the look on the 7Pro( i never use front facing camera's anyway)
I have both the 2xl and OP7 pro and love both. 2xl camera still runs laps around 7 pro but 7 pro is in another league in every other measurable.

That is disappointing to hear. I love the camera on my Pixel 2XL and feel it might be the only thing to make me return the OnePlus 7 Pro when I get it.
In my personal opinion I feel that camera quality is very subjective. Let's face it, we are talking about looking at the majority of our pictures on a 5 or 6 inch screen that has more resolution than most TV's! The only way you can tell if one camera is better than another is to hold them side-by-side while looking at the exact same photo....who does this? The camera on the 7 Pro is great...it takes pictures...in color....on a fairly large high resolution screen. To make our choice for a "phone" (communication device) based on how accurate the pictures might be (which again is subjective) is not the way to do things. There are too many other things that are necessary for one of these compact computers to work properly that I feel that the camera is the last, and the least important. If the battery runs out...no pictures...if you cannot maintain a good network signal, then you basically have an overpriced camera. It's just gotten way out of normal reasoning to worry so much about the camera on a smart phone. YMMV

There is a ported gcam app for OP7 that closes the quality gap a bit but you have to be rooted to use the Telephoto, and Wide lenses with it. The upgrade is still worth.
I wish the front cam cutout were in the middle and not on the left side like how it's shown in the leaks @ 8 Pro.
OnePlus 8
OnePlus continues to attract attention until the official announcement of the OnePlus 8 phones, and once again new official images emerge showing the colors of the OnePlus 8 Pro.
This year, OnePlus introduces an exclusive blue color for OnePlus 8 Pro, or is known as Ultramarine Blue, on the other hand, OnePlus OnePlus 8 Pro is presented in green or Glacial Green hue, which is also offered for OnePlus 8 flagship edition.
Oneplus OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus 8 are slated to be offered in Onyx black, and OnePlus 8 Pro does not come in blue like the Interstellar Glow model presented in OnePlus 8.
Roland Quandt also highlighted new leaks on the OnePlus 8 Pro screen that appears curved design on both sides, while the screen appears flat in the main version of OnePlus 8.
OnePlus 8 Pro also comes with a 6.78-inch AMOLED display, with a refresh rate of 120 Hz, and the screen brightness ratio reaches 1,300 nits.
Previous leaks confirmed that OnePlus 8 Pro has 48-megapixel sensors, with the main Sony IMX689 sensor 1 / 1.43 and 1.12µm pixels, while the IMX586 sensor comes with wide viewing angles, with an 8-megapixel zoom sensor, and it supports up to 3 times optical zoom , While the last 5MP sensor comes to collect more accurate color detail.
It is reported that OnePlus company recently confirmed that the OnePlus 8 Pro phone was launched with a Snapdragon 865 processor, and also reviewed the efficiency of the refresh rate of 120 Hz in the screen, the phone also comes with LPDDR5 standards in random memory, and UFS 3.0 standards in storage capacity, as the phones support 5G networks .
Current Pixel 2 user - I'm going to ride out the last year of Google support and jump ship next year. Will be interesting to see the advancements going to the 5nm SD875, which I assume will be on most of 2021 flagships!
Once used Google Pixel XL. Then used Samsung Galaxy S9+, Oneplus 7T now using Galaxy S20+ honestly speaking no other phone can match the pixel XL's camera performance . Attaching a photo taken with pixel xl.
Looks more like an Alcatel Phone camera.

Agreed...google's image processing just can't be beat. Very much considering picking up a pixel as a secondary device just for taking photos .
TBH that is a pretty horrible quality photo

It's actually useless without a comparision to the same scene taken with the S20+.
But sure Pixels profit hugely from the Google camera app and its software processing. But as soon as use third-party apps you can see how dated the camera hardware/sensor is. Heck, the Pixel 5 still has practically the same old tiny sensor as the Pixel 2 ( Sony IMX362 vs. IMX363). Do some video recording in bad light conditions with a Pixel and the S20 and you will see the difference in sensor quality (in favor of the S20 of course).
I know my one plus 7 pro did so much better at processing than Samsung. The s20 isn't too bad but still most Def better on the market

When it comes to camera hardware/sensors there is not too much better stuff than the S20 series. The Ultra is even a little better. And the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra has by far the best camera hardware. But most phones just compensate for it with software (especially Pixels with their tiny sensors). If you used the exact same camera app (like some GCam port) on all those phones you would get a more objective comparison. Of course, most people just want a phone with stock software and no root or any deeper changes to the system. So overall camera performance can be compared on the DXOMark page for example.
And even if the S20 has the better sensor, the Pixel's Google software is just much better at processing giving it an overall better ranking.
I compared videos shot with the same app on several devices (Quick Video Recorder which can record with the screen off) and thus settled for the S20+. It was the only phone with better camera hardware than my 4 years old HTC U11. Both Pixel 4 and Xiaomi Note 10 Lite performed worse in regard to detail, lighting and noise.
If you just want a phone to go and shoot pictures with then yeah, get a Pixel.

I like the s20. It does do very well. I use a lot of the features. I do a lot in manual mode too. And previous models just didn't seem to handle as well as this. But I still like the op7pro for certain situations it does amazing
