Razer Phone 2 Event Thread - Razer Phone 2 Guides, News, & Discussion

Some rumours about what we will see are below and I'll update the post as news comes out.
The event start time
**6:30pm October 10th San Francisco time (Google for your timezone) **

There are some very subtle differences if you look closely, The front camera and sensors are a little farther apart and the side bezels are a bit thicker along with of course the really cool lockscreen wallpaper.
I'll personally be awake to watch the stream and I hope you all will too! I can't wait to see what upgrade razer have done to an already brilliant device
UPDATE1: New press image from Evan blass [Link](https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/1045535259415244800?s=19)
Update2: [Link](https://www.twitch.tv/razer) to the stream
There's also a discord server if you want to join it when the event is live.
What are you looking for in the upgrade? Personally a brighter screen and better vibration motor will do it for me.

Brighter screen, 845 soc, USB otg support, project Linda to become a thing (maybe useable for first and second gen razer phone would be cool) and Android 9 out the box.

I can't see it coming with Android 9.0
I hope to be wrong though!
I'm seriously hyped right now after seeing the leaks I just hope the price is right.

Well it looks like a pretty decent update, definitely interested in upgrading to it, just wish they made it look a bit more different... the glass back and RGB logo is a nice touch though.

Yep I'm hyped will be buying one as soon as I save up.
Anyone know if the bootloader will be unlockable yet? I know the scene here is pretty much dead for this phone but losing root I don't think I could cope with.

Ready to buy if I can root!

Definitely excited for this phone, but... Any idea why it doesn't have its own section in the forums yet? The ASUS ROG Phone got one as soon as it was announced back in June (and still isn't out yet, for the most part), while this phone has been announced and is on sale (for pre-orders). It should definitely have its own forum by now.

With the reviews getting in are you still getting your XZ?

I'm curious if there is an affect on your buying decision after reading the reviews.
I so want this phone but all this talk about the display not being up to par has put some doubt in my mind now as to whether I go through with purchasing the Z. GSM arena and Phone Arena share similar views regarding the display, which I wasn't expecting.
I will be taking a look at the device at my local phones4u, and if I find the screen to be disappointing I will unfortunately cancel my order. I really really really hope this wont be the case though.
Yeah wavering here...

What is there in those reviews that would put me off from buying one?
Problems with camera images? Not that big of a deal, I don't make photos with my phone for a living. Lag? I doubt there is any. Battery life? People report a whole day of medium to heavy usage, which is what I get from my Galaxy S3 anyway. Build quality? It's waterproof, I don't mind having to open flaps every time I want to plug in my headset.
What else is there?
Where is the option "i dont care about reviews, i want it and im gonna get it regardless" ?
I dont trust reviews. Note 2 and S3 were reviewed as the best phones even - and i'm really disappointed by those two. It's funny how reviewers sometimes ignore obvious flaws about one phone, but riot about a tiny detail in another. Reviews are not objective - so i don't really care about them. It's nice to read and compare opinions, but i always prefer to just get the phone and decide for myself.
So unless at least 5-10 review say something really bad about the battery ( like not lasting a full day even on light use, which is not the case ) i'm not going to even think about cancelling.

I think most are worried about the screen, every thing else seems okay/perfect (some may not like the camera)
I have a pre-order for mine but I am a little worried.. The camera from what I've seen looks perfectly decent, and it's bound to be better than my HOX which kinda sucks compared to my last iPhone. My one concern is the display which is a pretty big deal breaker, I actually had a quick play with one in a Three store yesterday and the display was very wishy washy (Even after I had turned it down from max brightness). Originally everyone had said this was purely an issue with pre-production panels, but after the reviews claiming to be on retail devices this had worried me even more.
Think I'm going to pop into a P4U store as well to have a play, maybe there is more chance of those being full retail units seeing as they're available a little after.. Who knows!
I'm still getting it, I've seen the phone in a couple of three stores and didn't see any problems with the display, but then I'm not particularly picky.
I'm still getting it, my main reasons are:
Camera. I know Sony make decent camera phones, I have a Note 2 which is fairly decent, not brill in low light scenarios, not as good as my HOX was.
Build quality. My last two phones, S3 and Note 2...enough said!
Screen. I miss my HOX LCD screen, AMOLEDS are just a bit too false!
Size. My current phone is the Note 2, it's the only negative side of it, it's too big for one handed use nothing else. Looking forward to getting a phone that I can use with one hand comfortably again.
So I'm still getting it!

Screen aside I am getting concerned about the camera performance, I don't expect it to completely match up to the 920 but I was hoping it would be reasonably close.
Reviews are irrelevant. Go play with the phone at a Sony store once it becomes available and decide for yourself.
Reviewers have their own agendas...
I was planning on getting the ZL if it came out before the end of February or first week of March..... However Sony announced that Canada isn't getting the ZL till April.... And on top of that all of the issues with the inconsistent screen reviews have made me decide to just wait . Since Sony decided to force me to wait till April the logical thing to do is wait for info on the s4/Optimus g pro/ m7 / xphone, and reevaluate the market at that time
Sent from my GT-I9100 using xda app-developers app
I am still getting it. Lets hear reviews of international version first aT feb 28, and lets see.
Really wanted to get this phone, but it's not coming to Canada until April. That's just too far away and sadly I am forced to go another route. I really did want this phone though...
the display doesn't look bad in this vid(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFEzXilA8B8) IMO, but why is bottom bar gray instead of black (where the home, and back button are)?
Was quite iffy since anything that offers a fHD resolution and no 3000mA+ battery doesn't get me interested much. But I guess this is a dealbreaker for me. Anywho, good luck to those who've ordered this!
I will wait for a full GSMarena review, then wait for it to appear in stores here and go test it myself and compare. The only problem for me could be bad color contrast.
Not amazing camera? - No problem for me, digital cameras are not amazing even if you stuck 9999 megapixels in them and super xmrozksda sensors. I take maybe 3 pics a month and those usually go to instagram where horrible filters and compression will make it look like a picture from 2006 anyway. If I want to make good pics I'll take my camera (or a friend will).
Bad viewing angles? - Again, the only time it will be a problem is when I let my mates to play games on it and will want to see how they are doing.
I just need a new phone kinda ASAP and Sony is releasing soon. The new HTC could be interesting for me but I'm not sure when it's coming out. I hate Samsung phones so GS4 is not an option either.
^Why do you 'hate' Samsung? Color contrast of SAMLOED I'm guessing
Getting the ZL, but it's more or less the same phone for the most part. Reviews aren't affecting my excitement to get it one bit. Can't wait for it to finally hit Canada!
Getting the ZL also. I know our country was one of the mentioned ones to get this device on the 1st quarter but if it would reach till april then mostlikely HTC M7 would prolly steal 50% of my decision to go back to sony. I love Sense UI and not Sony UI but I decided to ditch HTC Butterfly and go with sony but if they let HTC M7 pass them again then bye2 and I'll stick with HTC. Sad because Sony was my 1st android phone coming from nokia when they ditched maemo OS over microsoft.

General thoughts so far....

For those of you that now have this phone, what are your thoughts? I'm liking this phone more and more but do I need it, well, not really. I'm perfectly happy with my Nexus 4 running PA but there's something about this that has me wanting it. I think part of it is the fact that it's kind of the underdog. It will be exciting to see what the dev's come up with, ROM wise. Anyway, my brain is just spinning as usual, haha.

I'm coming from a sony X10 but the oppo find 5 is working good, I had no dead pixels everything worked out of the box.
I have some problems with contact syncing and gmail updates. Photographs are beautiful, but HDR is not really good on dark spots. (lots of noise because of ISO value's)
I did not wanted the nexus 4 because of the glass back. But I think I would also be happy with the nexus 4. But it is overpriced in the Netherlands, my oppo is cheaper then the nexus 4.
It is super fast compared to my X10. No idea how fast the nexus 4 is.
I think you can better donate some money to charity instead of buying yet another high-end phone
nice
previous phone: HTC Sensation
+ Display: WOW! youtube trailer in HD and people start peeping their eyes out!
+ Sound: I never heard a phone playing it sounds like this
+ Speed: I changed the default (ugly) launcher to APEX, this give's the phone a better feel
+ Camera: Although my previous phone was already 2 year old hence i cannot compare it to recent in-phone-camera's it looks great
+ Desgin: It is sharp but not too sharp edged, it's light and thin. the phone is big in size but because its slim dimensions you will not notice it in your jeans (unless you wear skinny jeans i guess, but who does that )
- Temperature when under load, i feel the device is getting pretty warm, your hands start being sweatty.
- Stock UI
Display
Simply Amazing. Bright & Crisp.
However, the screen responsiveness to your touch isn't very good. I find myself having to tap many things twice or three times to get it registered.Battery
Terrible. It seems to be draining even while sleeping.
My usual morning routine, I unplugged the phone from the charger. It's charged to 100% over night. I do a few light tasks like replying to text messages, flipping through Flipboard, see one 30 sec YouTube video, brightness setting at 50%.
After 20 minutes of usage, my battery gotten down from 100% to 78%.Speaker
Nice and loud. Best, I have ever heard. But, when you lay it on its back, the speaker will be completely muffled.Camera
Sucks. 13MP only in spirit. Colors are over saturated. And, the balance isn't there. Lots of graininess in images, even in ample light. Also, don't use the LED flash. Your pictures will be almost all blown white. Absolutely no setting like macro, scene mode, white balance, panaroma, etc.. Just point and shoot and hope for the best...and often times, it isn't.
My 8MP Nexus and 5MP iPad Mini can take picture and video much better.Stock Launcher
The widgets are fugly. Period.Build Quality
Strong like my unibody Macbook Pro. However, the power and volume rockers shifts around. The micro USB port is weak. I feel like I'm gonna break that port anytime soon.Software
Random reboots at least twice or three times a day. No idea why. I feel like I'm using Windows 95 all over again. Oh, and Gmail doesn't open up. Yeah, seriously, Gmail DOES NOT work on this phone. I have to use the other mail app instead. Latest firmware & Gmail update.
Software is actually 4.1, not 4.2. Coming from Nexus 4, that was a let down. I miss the swype style keyboard on 4.2.ROM
Currently, as of late March, no ROMsSide Note
USB wall charger & headphones look EXACTLY like the ones for iPhones. Apple will be calling them soon, if not already.
Conclusion
Beauty & the Beast.......okay, maybe just the Beauty and not much else.
Interesting perspective, thanks for sharing. Hopefully a lot of these things can be fixed with future updates. What's the deal with the Gmail not working and is this something that OPPO is aware of?
I really am happy with the phone. Looks great and stands out in the crowd. Screen is fabulous. It's a new kid on the block, so there are a few things that are not quite there yet. But it seems Oppo are really working hard to make a proper go at this. So far weekly updates and regular fixes. I attached a simple benchmark to give you an idea of the spec. I'm sure there are better performers out there, but it seems to hold it's own!
It seems that my take is a lot different than other peoples on the board, or maybe I got really lucky and got the perfect unit, My Droid DNA is in my drawer and my Oppo Find 5 is sitting on my coffee table right now. All I have to say is wow I am really quite surprised with the device, and I have a Droid DNA now, and my previous device was HTC One X International Version. So I have saw some very nice displays lately, and the Oppo Find 5 is right up there with the best of them, it handles its own. The only fault was that I got my Oppo Find 5 with 1 stuck pixel, you don't even notice it only if you look for it when it’s on the black part while its booting up, once the screen comes on you can’t even see it.
+ Display is really NICE! 1 pixel stuck, on par with Droid DNA SLCD3 and just as bright so you don't have to turn it up that far and waste battery.
+ Build Quality I can’t say enough about this, this thing feels like I could Drop it off the roof and it would last.
+ The All black front display looks so good just as nice or better than the One X, and it has that nice curve in the glass that makes it nice to use.
+ I haven't tried the stock ear buds, but with my Sony ear buds, this thing sounds great, no distortion at all, with bass high, all amps sound good.
+ The stock speaker is also a pleasant surprise, it sounds really good at high volume levels also, when set right, no distortion and it gets loud
+ I stuck with the default launcher to give it a try and it is pretty smooth, has a really nice settings layout. I may switch, it reminds me of MIUI
+ The camera is just as good as my HTC DNA, I don't remember which review said it was about like about like an 8MP LG, It shots fine pictures.
+ The white matte finish does not leave any fingerprints and the screen must have that stuff to keep fingerprints off it also, it barley gets fingerprints
+ I have ran plenty of benchmarks and my unit did not get hot at all as someone said, maybe I wasn't holding it where it was getting hot at on their device?
+ The complete design is what really shines on this phone on the outside, it looks so sleek, and I have already caught people glancing and looking at it, and I have only owned it for one day, if that says anything at all?
+ or - Don't know enough about battery life yet but so far mine seems to be holding up better today, now that it is on its second charge, With a full HD Display you have got to know how to manage your battery, turn things off that you are not using at the time, it worked on my One X and that thing was a nightmare. On my One X I also disabled all my apps that I didn't ever use. At least until we get Roms that will take out all the bloat junk. Today my battery is doing really well almost 2 hours screen time and 76% left.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
-- I would have to say that the launcher would have been better stock, but I like trying new things out. I really hope Paranoid Android comes to this phone that will be my rom of choice. I already know CM and MIUI are coming soon.
-- The Ugly widgets, Oppo have so many better widgets on their other phones (Oppo Finder, Oppo Way, Oppo 3?) all those widgets look better IMO. I wish I could replace them somehow by switching APKs; maybe someone knows how and could let me know?
-- Contrast I like the over saturated look we have a developer that is working on a kernel or app to set your display just how you like it, at least I think so anyway?- hopefully we can get this fixed soon I know it’s being worked on by paperweistage and his kernel hopefully he gets it figures out, but if you want to help he is looking for some help in his kernel thread, He is looking for JDI Display white-sheets. So help out if you can
And support our developer, that’s how we eventually get more custom Kernel Roms and Apps. Donate to them a couple dollars for a cold one or a coffee.
-- or + It is a little bit on the heavy side but look how it’s made! Some could call this a negative but I left it neutral because it is well balanced and with a full metal frame inside around it, I don't really mind it weighing 20 extra grams, at least hopefully my phone won’t shatter into a thousand pieces if it falls on the ground.
Add more later after I use it awhile longer.
Stock Find 5 Score
[/IMG]
BELOW MY DROID DNA with a custom kernel, once we get a custom kernel for the Find 5, I think it will do better than the DNA I couldn't get the scores I'm getting with the Find 5 with my DNA when it was stock maybe 18900 or 19500.

drvsbsm, awesome review! I was checking the OPPO forums earlier and was really getting mixed thoughts on the phone. I know this phone is new and things are just getting started and I think that is some of what's driving me to it. I remember when the Nokia N9 came out with it's Hartmann/Meego OS, I fell in love with that thing and it was pretty much a dead platform when released. It looks like OPPO is keeping up with bug fixes and putting out updates so that's a good sign. Most of all though, I think the thing is SEXY, a beautiful device.
I'm guessing the vendor on Amazon is the place to get it from, the one located in HK?
Thanks again guys!
Very , very good rewiew !

+1...... The good think is that the almost everything can be repaired (soft related )
Video camera isn't that very good.
Video is okay if the subject stands still. However, when subject runs or any fast moments, then video gets blurry or ghosting.
For example, here's a video of my daughter at her Taekwondo practice. Notice how she gets blurry when she starts running?

Hopefully this will be addressed as OPPO is releasing an update within a few days for camera related issues.
I have a question about the screen durability. I read somewhere, maybe GSMArena, that the screen rippled very easily and was a bit flexible. That sounds very concerning. I've also heard a few things about poor touchscreen response. This may also be hardware only problem that can't be fixed with any updates.
A lot of these smaller phone makers can just buy off the shelf parts (figuratively) and bulid their own phone. They don't need to develop their own hardware components, just how everything fits together and the overall design. The camera is an Exmor RS from Sony, and the screen is probably a 1080p panel from Sharp. Of course the processor is Qualcomm.
The biggest problem these small relatively no name companies face is the software. It's the brains that makes the smartphone smart, and having a small and inexperienced team, especially while trying to make your own skin, can lead to many shortcomings, from bugs to performance issues to compatibility to poor hardware utilization and battery life. A lot of this stuff even the big boys have trouble with and they have far bigger teams with far more experience. Oppo should go the route that BLU is taking in the future. BLU has a really horrible skin, allegedly, and unstable and buggy phones, but they are supposedly putting stock Android on their new Life series line of phones.
From what I've gathered, the screen is made by JDI?

The screen is from JDI. seems pretty sturdy to me. They seem to be keeping on top of things. But they have a very good reputation in the high end Av community. It's also not their 1st phone. Just their first soiree in the international market.
I have had my Find 5 for more than a week now sans screen protector. Unfortunately, there are lots of micro scratches already. And, I'm very conscious about where I put and use my phone.
Same practice, my Nexus 4 fair much better even after six months of usage.
All in all, have screen protector or don't have too long of finger nails.

New firmware 328,it has camera fixes...
No marked improvement or fixes to camera with latest firmware.
Just new feature: panorama.
Oppo should focus on fixing all the basic camera problems, rather than, adding gimmick useless feature.

Wow knite please get back to your iphone.
They tweaked a bit around with the iso settings. But not something really spectaculair.
At least they did something. Most companies will be like :"DEAL WITH IT!"

Most company would release software when it's ready and in decent condition for general public consumption... Not beta....or alpha in this case.
Check the camera... Aside from poor image quality.... Do see any basic features like:
Macro
White Balance
Scene Mode
As a matter of fact, on Oppo forums, lots of threads and discussion on how poor the pictures and video are turning out... Oppo just ignore them...basically, saying "DEAL WITH IT!"
Instead, they spent their finite limited development resources in adding useless Panorama feature. When is the last time you took a panorama picture, aside from just wanting to see how it works?
I took a panorama earlier at dinner actually. I did the update out of the box and didn't know it added that so that's cool lol.

I sold it

Hey guys, thanks for the time here. I just sold my G Pad for around 70% of the price I got it for.. I ended up getting one of the Samsung Tab PRO's, I gotta say, nice tablet. Hardware keys, suck.. Will take some time getting used to. I bought the 10 incher..
There is absolutely no development going on so I am looking into the Exynos processor of the tablet and I downloaded the KK open source code.. I'm hoping that I can figure out how to build a rom and kernel from scratch so I can get CM on it.
Anyways, what I wanted to say was that the G Pad was a great device and I had big troubles choosing between keeping it or going for a new tablet. In my opinion going from a G Pad to a Tab PRO 8 incher wouldof been a waste, unless it was all about the screen and the colours. The G Pad has a great display for reading and such.. I think I'll miss reading books on it because this 10 incher will need to have portrait mode and split the pages in two "like a book", it works but it's not the same, lol. TouchWiz isn't so bad anymore but I replaced the launcher with Nova.. The rest is bearable I'd say.
Well guys, being on the G Pad forums has shown me that even if the community isn't the biggest, there's graet people and you actually get to know people a bit better and you can sorta do a road map on who does what on the device. I think that's great and I've enjoyed writing with you and to you.
- I still don't know if it was the right decision to sell the G Pad. Time will tell. Anyways, have fun, hope to see you around somewhere.

You goofed. Sorry.... Just kidding.
.... but enjoy your device whatever it might be. I think the first thing to consider when trading for another device or buy any, is what you plan for it. A 10-inch tablet is a completely different experience, and changes what you would use it for. Consider the IR Blaster on the G Pad. Even if the 10-incher has it, can you really see yourself using a TEN INCH remote control?
I had a Nook HD+ 8.9 inches prior to the G Pad, and I am a dedicated reader. I enjoyed the large, high-resolution screen, but found it a little too big for lots of reading. The G Pad, despite being only half an inch smaller in screen size, looks MUCH smaller next to the Nook, mostly due to how thin it is, and the super small bezels. For my own purposes, I have found it to be the perfect size. Still, it all depends on what one's priorities are, so there is no 'best tablet'. There is only the best tablet for you.

For my own purposes, I have found it to be the perfect size. Still, it all depends on what one's priorities are, so there is no 'best tablet'. There is only the best tablet for you.

Haha, the remote control I use my G2 for.. It has a working remote for CM builds, last time I checked myself, been a while, the G Pad didn't have that. I find it rather weird at all, to use the IR blaster on such a big device to replace such a small peripheral such as a regular remote control.
Oh yeah, the bezel on the G Pad is amazing, it was indeed a joy to read on. I got an iPad Air at work some weeks ago and I tried to use it for a while, haven't held an Apple device since the iPod Touch gen1, it's changed, but I still don't enjoy the UI so when I saw the big screen, I liked it.. And thought about a bigger android tablet.. So I got this one.. There is a downside to anything I guess.. I love reading my comics on the 10 incher tho.. Nice and crisp as on the G Pad, just bigger.. But yeah, reading books will be different.. Entirely different now.
And yeah, I never owned a 10 inch before the iPad for a few weeks.. The gripe with the Samsung device is that it's not easily held with one hand.. Simply too big. But YouTube and movies.. I use it for that as well.. Where bigger seems better to me.. Again.. Trade offs.. I dunno, I just might find an 8 incher again at some point to do the reading on.. Who knows.. Nothing wrong with having an extra device. All I know is that 7 inches is too small and I'm leaving my old Nexus 7 2012 to rot.. Mhm..
Well, at least I'm on my way to knowing a bit more about tablet sizes, as you've had your experiences.. There's a lot to consider when getting a bigger or smaller tablet. So at least now I've had one of "each".. And like I said.. Pro's and cons for both.. There's just some things the 8 incher does better.
I'd love to get a TabPro 8.4. But I just couldn't justify the cost when I got my 8.3 for for $150 less. 10" tablets are just too big for me.
man 70% less is like $160, id gladly pay so much if anyone were to give up their like new gpad , been scouting for a like new at this price, most issues arent deal breakers and can easily be fixed, if anyone looking to sell one so cheap , please think of me
I been thinking of selling the tab 3 for a pro 8.4. But im waiting for a nice price drop. Looks cool.

You Have To Admire This Guy..
To go from a tablet with Good Development to an (Octacore) tablet that has No Development on the SoC takes Guts.
I did that with my first N7-2013.. I got sick of the screen size and returned it on the 13th day for a Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0.. At the time, there was Zero Development for it as well... and I almost went Insane being an XDA Member with a Tablet that I could do nothing with accept root it..
As a matter of fact on the 14th (Last) day I could return the Tab 3 8.0 I did... and got a Note 8.0.. at least it had some development going for it..
So.. hats off to this XDA Member.. to make such a bold investment in hopes of a better future with his Octacore 10.1..
You know Samsung will just make an amoled display for the 8" and then you'd have to return that one lol I enjoyed my amoled 7.7 but it had its' share of issues. I'm flash happy with my phone, but with my tablet I juat want to chill.
Thanks for all the replies guys.
I gotta say at this point in time I am only satisfied with the big screen. When the Exynos processor has been sleeping it takes a good 4-6 seconds before the device reacts to input. Also in those seconds even the bluetooth connection to my hi-fi suffers from stuttering. It seems poorly executed with 2xquad core.. Oh well, can't win em all. The speed is fine when it's up and running. But the stuttering makes it feel like it needs to re-fuel or something, lol. Guess I'll roll with this until something new shows up. Not a lot of 10 inchers on the market, why I went with this supposedly bad boy. It's kinda disappointing. ^^ And btw. yes I would very much have liked amoled.. The LCD on this fella also suffers from light bleed and has that weird, griddy-pixely look on small text. Me no liekee. It is a beastly tablet, it just has it's quirks, just like the G Pad had, but at least the processor on that one was one that devs had time for. I've been looking at the Exynos' for a while now and it seems like the Cyanogen boys gave that shiet up time ago due to source codes not really being released, or at least the kernels and such. I looked at what I could find and I didn't know where to begin with making kernel and eventually a ROM. I'd prolly just brick it.

I believe that most of the people who own a G Pad prefer the 8" format to the 10" format. But I guess that the 8" model probably has the same performance issues that you're seeing with the 10" model. Maybe somebody will find a way to tweak it to fix the lag issue.
I bought it a few days ago. It's nice for sure. My only gripe is that it seems that development is dead on it which is a shame. I've never been a huge CM fan. Tried Mahdi Rom and got rid of it within 5 minutes.I'll just keep it stock and rooted.

My mistake; I thought I'd read about a GPE conversions, but if there is, I can't find it. I'm unaware of any hardware differences between the 2 versions though. Unless you're talking about the Verizon one. But really, I don't know either way.
I like my G Pad. For the price, I keep it until another good sale comes along.

Hey Woody, no, the 8 inch Samsung device features the same resolution and 2 gigs of ram, that's where it stops being the same. It has a snapdragon 800 under the hood and thus has a few roms including an unofficial CM11. What I don't understand is that XDA put the 3 tablets into the same forums.. 8 inch has Snapdragon, 10 incher has 2 gigs of ram and Exynos and the 12 incher has 3 gigs of ram and Exynos. None of the devices are 100% identical specwise. Usually that could have been, with different screen sizes.. But this is not the case.. So it baffles me. 8.4 has taken over and well.. I guess there would be even drier on those forums if it hadn't been for those guys. But oh well, lol. Don't care much for that tablet. Then I wouldof stuck with the G Pad.
I mean.. I haven't even rooted the device, lol.

You can't. Don't flash it. Last time I checked, that didn't work. But who cares man, get some other AOSP rom on it. There's a few to choose from when it comes to the G Pad. And these days, it runs em smooth.

-Discussion- Mi Mix 1 Vs Pixel XL (thinking about leaving :'( )

Sighh.. so guys, i had my mi mix for about 6 months and i loveD this phone. but i feel like its come to the end of the line already.
MIUI is basically unusable for me, missed notifications, calls missed by delay of ring & late notifications, group texting is horrible, camera image processing sucks, OS crashes etc. (all this before rooting mind you)
But after rooting all of those issues went away....for a bit.
so since day 2 i had it rooted running lineageOS and switched to RR, but 3 months later and up til today i started experiencing:
Slight screen burn
Constant OS Crashes/Random Reboots
Cell Signal dropping in areas that it didnt while running MIUI
Still bad camera image processing
Call Audio dropping extremely low when volume is Maxed
Bluetooth disconnects while my phone is in my pocket (didnt happen on MIUI)
and several other things.
I work in I.T. and cant have some of these things happening while at work.
I started looking at alternative devices and since the Pixel 2 is too dang much for my pockets I'm considering the Pixel XL.
I hate that the screen is 5.5 inches over my 6.4 but I need something nice that works. I'm wondering if i left if I'd be happy or nah?
Personally, the screen real estate and battery life the mi mix provides are too good to leave for a mere 5.5 inch phone. Also, I'd rather have 1080p over 1440p as I consider it a waste. I don't mind the lcd over amoled, I love the screen just fine, and I don't take lots of pictures so I'm not really bugged by the camera. Overall I consider the pixel xl an ugly ass phone and think it'd be crazy to change your beautiful and futuristic mi mix with that humongous display for an ugly small screened phone that doesn't even have a better processor. Hope it helped

what are ur thoughts on the G6 or Huawei Mate 9?
The way you are talking you seem to have made up your mind already.
I find it odd though that I'm not experiencing any of the symptoms you mentioned.
My guy u do realize your 1 in the possible thousands of people that own this phone correct? Nobody's device is perfect. This is what I'm experiencing personally not the whole mi mix end user list. The only thing I have made up in my mind is that my phone isn't gonna last forever as my daily driver because of these issues so I'm seeking suitable alternatives before I make the jump.
Get the oneplus 5t, it will be coming soon and has a newer processor than the pixel xl. Or s8+ if you can get it for a decent price in whichever country you're from.
I've always rooted and modified whatever phone I've had and I can say I love miui it's smooth it's fast it has built in theme support which is what I mainly rooted for I'm sorry you've had issues u gave miui only 2 days before u jumped ship I would flash stock miui 9 from epicrom and see if issues resolve before downgrading to pixel XL....but with the recent software improvements and price drop essential phone should be a consideration before pixel XL it's newer it has SD 835 and screen size you're used to and at 449 u can still get 450 for mi mix easy and be out no money just my .02

Appreciate the reply! I'll give this a shot, although I dont see why stock android wouldnt give me a better experience than MIUI. I used to love miui back in versions 6 & 7, and im not saying its bad now but i just had a bad experience with it on this device. but ill definitely give it another go!

Thanks ! im in the USA, but i was trying to stay around that 500-600 price point, the S8+ is kinda pushing it being as though its $724.99 over here. the one plus is definitely a contender for the future though
I would try a few other ROMs before getting a different phone. AICP has been rock solid for me now for months.
One issue your having is the custom roms - I tried them all and more or less they all get buggy over time [some more than others]. I run stock global and its has next to never crashed [fc'ed], call quality is fine and carrier permitting the notifications [network related ones] show up fast / local ones never get missed.
Two the pixle only has a camera that's better, screen is worse more or less - storage is A LOT worse and you don't even really get a more durable device.
Been using mine as my daily driver since I picked it up in late Jan 2017 - its really never failed me as long as I didn't go rooting / fiddling with things. That brings me back to something I mentioned awhile back in another post. Miui doesn't like to be tampered with - roms based on this tend to become unstable [been using miui roms since 2008 or so and the behavior has never really changed]. The non miui roms are stable enough until you go messing with them too [especially visually]. In addition to that many of the custom roms seem to leave things out, often little things but they add up to annoyances.
Its your money - but the Pixel isn't the one I would go for if your looking to replace this thing. Its not that good a phone. Look at the Mate 9 / 10 series or some other designs.
Hi everyone!
I recover this thread some time later because I am very sadly considering selling this wonderful device. Development is very poor and doesn't look to get any better and that is a crucial point for me. I mean, I have a Nexus 5, left out from official Google development a long ago, and community's very strong and development is never stopping, great kernels, some good Oreo builds... It is very sad when compared to the Mix.
I love this big guy but probably will sell it soon and move to ... That's the problem! To what??
This discussion was carried out a while back and some new players have appeared since then. What are your opinions? What would be the best alternative?
Top of the game specs and big screen are musts for me and those two features combined make it real difficult ...
Thanks in advance!

Well, we have AOSiP that is going to be updated to oreo soon, and the new notification system in the MIUI developer rom made me have interest in MIUI again.
I agree that the development is poor (although the ones that do/did develop are/were awesome) and its sad to see developers leave but Im proud to own the device that pioneered the bezeless screen and even does it better than the modern flagships (and the MI MIX 2 ) and it is the most beautiful brick in the world.
My plan is to wait for oreo from AOSiP and meanwhile try the MIUI developer rom again with the new notification system (I cant afford a new phone so I have no other choice ).
About alternatives, I think the honor v10 is a great alternative (low price and great hardware and software) Although there is almost zero development in xda for this phone (because of the kirin processor) but EMUI is now great after the EMUI 5 update and huawei phones are a part of the first phones that got the oreo update so the support from huawei is good.
But In my opinion the best alternative is the OnePlus 5T and I think I dont have to explain why  .

Yeah more or less in the same spot. Still waiting and hoping for the guys behind AOSiP, AICP and Viper to bring Oreo to the Mix And maybe some new developer to get the phone and play around with it a bit.
The OP5T does look cool, probably the best value right now in the market. Maybe similar to Mix 2 although dev support is probably better for OP devices in general.
One thing about new notification shade: it is supposed to be there in the 7.12.8 beta (only china beta) , but it is not there in the same release of xiaomi.eu... Haven't tried official MIUI but I find it strange that it is not in the xiaomi.eu mod. Know something about it?
Searched miui forum and read changelogs and stuff and didn't actually find anything clear on the matter. And no official global beta since 7.5.25 I believe...

Yeah, back cover seems OK but that full display screen is kinda fairy tale. I and some were expecting Mix 2 to come as +6,4'' screen with less bezels and it became worse. So I keep my expectation about the display screen a bit low.

Z4- The phone for me

Anyone who has their doubts about this phone... I get it. Motorola is in a unique situation with their Z lineup of phones. What once started out as a phone with an unbreakable screen and flagship specs has now become a mid-range device with a breakable screen and an attractive price point. This phone is a steal on Verizon for just $10 a month on a new line. The unlocked price of $499 with the 360 camera mod is a pretty good value as well. So Motorola is pushing value with the Z4, and I'm here for it. So I bought a Z4 despite watching every YouTube review that told me to buy a Pixel 3a instead... And I'm so glad that I did. This phone is a BEAST... And I'm coming from an LG G8.. a "high-end" Android device. Don't get me wrong I loved my G8, and had no intentions of abandoning it as my daily driver. I bought the Moto Z4 for two reasons. Value & Fun. I still had a lot of my Moto Mods from my Z2 force and I missed playing emulators on my phone with the Moto Gamepad so I figured for the price, this would be a great "fun" second phone. Now it is my daily driver. The killer feature on this phone is battery life. The 3a doesn't come close, nor does my G8. I can literally go for two days without needing a charge-up, and I'm on my phone 24/7. What made me apprehensive about this phone was the Snapdragon 675 processor. I knew my performance that I'd come to love would take a hit. Especially with gaming and running so many apps... To my surprise, this "mid-range" processor has surpassed my expectations. Yes, I notice a difference coming from the G8, but I'd put it on par with the prior year's G7. The main place that you notice slow down with the mid-range processors is on System boot-up and gaming. Day to day activities like Web Browsing, GPS, Snapchat, YouTubing, etc... You won't be able to tell a difference. Going from 6 gb of ram to 4gb was never a big deal to me because no one really needs 6gb of ram on their device. The Camera on this phone is INCREDIBLY detailed and it beats my G8 for most shots. I'm assuming Pixel's 3a would probably win the camera war, but that's about it... And that's why so many reviewers were wrong about this phone. I love the backwards compatibility with all of the Moto Mods and they all fit quite nicely despite what you may read online. LTE speeds on this phone are really nice. I live in a rural area and don't always have the best 4G speeds or signal strength but the Z4 hasn't let me down. I hope to see more development grow for this device being that Bootloader Unlock and root is as simple as unlocking from Motorola's website and patching your boot image with Magisk. After unlocking and rooting, I've been hard at work pushing this "mid-range" device to its MAXIMUM and trust me when I say it flies.
And here are some random camera samples!
I second this. I was apprehensive about buying the Z4 at first, and even smack talked it a bit when I first seen the specs compared to previous Z line products. Boy was I wrong. I absolutely love this phone.
My only complaint at first was the fingerprint scanner. But simply adding the same finger twice fixed that issue.
This from the guy with the Android tattoo ??
I fully agree with you! Came from a OnePlus 6T McLaren, but missed all the fun I had with my Moto Mods the time I still had my Moto Z and Z3 Play devices. When I got the opportunity to buy a second hand Moto Z4 directly from Germany, I took the chance and bought it with the hope, it would be sufficient to me. I have had it for less than a month now and I still do not regret to have bought it! I do not miss my OnePlus 6T at all! Especially, the usage of InstaShare Projector and 360° Camera is great fun and I have not yet noticed any deficiencies regarding the "weak" mid-range processor (but I am definitely NOT a gamer).
Especially the screen is fantastic! I noticed a huge difference in comparison with the screen of Z3 Play - the Z4 screen's haptics are very much better (it is not that sensible towards input - so it is much easier to write messages free of errors). Microsoft surface stylus types support is very nice, too - for testing purposes, I bought such a cheap pen supporting the MS surface protocol and writing with this stylus really works like a charm!
The only thing I miss with this phone is Dual SIM support.
Excellent and appreciated review but if like to hear more about build quality compared to the LG devices as I was eyeing those as a possible replacement for the S5.
Unfortunately I do not have the unlocked version since I'm in a rural area but without steady work.
Edit: For the much shorter version of this read the last paragraph or two.
I've only owned a few phones
The Droid X goes without saying.
The s3 new from big red but I was able to ditch touch wiz immediately the very first night (but an excited all night with lots of reading) since development was already about six months in.
And an S5 that was one year old when I bought it for like 140 us bucks (she wanted an iPhone). After some quick searching I said yeah 140 will work with me but I detest the gold color. It's cid 15 which I determined before my purchase.
The Droid X was tough as nails I'm telling you. I got it from big red as my first smartphone I got this huge ottorbox(sp?) where I could probably drop it from a cliff onto some rock in the mountains and not hurt it. That case was way too bulky for me.
Very long story a bit shorter for me anyway. I was coming home from working late one night and was going about 60mph on a short but winding road home. But I got home and didn't have my phone, I went back to the office, not there either. I drove slowly home that night in first gear all the way looking for it and was very lucky to spot the phone in the road. I stopped right there put the flashers on as it was an emergency to me... I found the back that night and took a machete to the weeds along the road and found the battery.
Excellent. The screen was not cracked, the phone was scratched on all four corners (probably got lucky) but I put the battery back in and it fired right up no problem and without one scratch on the screen.
The Samsung's were nice too with some development still going on both (for sure my S5 is running pie). But the s3 lasted a couple years and the screen died.
My S5 has fared much better but the screen finally cracked and I'm on my second "extended" battery. I still use it when using a weed eater and the rocks are flying for tunes.
This z4 is way better {fairly heavily disabled apps and permissions with adb) and the build quality reminds me of my first smartphone.. it's made of metal and feels like a high end device should feel in the hand.
I looked at s lot of phones and weighed all my limited options. Save up for a used phone a few years old, or get the g7 power fairly cheap unlocked or get the z4 with big red again.
I'm so glad I made the investment and look forward to finding a used (hopefully) gamepad mod for emulation. Phones in general have come a long way but this device is the best choice for me now.
I'd love root and all that but I'm not missing it as much as I thought I would right now.
After my few days off research on debloating I'm happy and only recently added a new Google account for testing s few things.
I do miss my microg and Google free life I've had with the S5 but again no regrets yet.
I know this wasn't so about the z4 but hope the comparisons help..
The Galaxy's felt cheap for top tier devices compared to my original dx. And this phone brings back that quality feeling.
Edit2 Damn your UI looks more stock than mine but maybe it's the wallpaper or volume.
