stable nougat based custom rom - Samsung Galaxy J7 (2017) Questions & Answers

Hi,
A little history, my wife phone screen broke and got replaced by a (Class A) 3rd party screen in a cellphone repair shop.
A couple of days after the fix, she got a notification on the J7 system upgrade, I did advice her to wait a couple weeks before applying the upgrade since there might some problem that might come up (aside from firt time seeing a system upgrade from Samsung phone).
She got impatient (more likely annoyed to the constant system notification) and applied the upgrade resulting to the screen being unresponsive to touches(no touch syndrome).
She went back to the shop that replace the broken screen and they say that they could fix it. (which the did)
Now as it stands her phone already has a custom rom, attached the system info. Not sure if what the shop claims about the real reason behind the no touch issue is the 3rd party screen, that an original screen is needed in order to have it (j7 pro) working on oreo.
Though the did fix the no touch issue, but the overall user experience has been not ideal. Noticeable problem are random restart, cant't remember wifi passwrd after restart and non working Bluetooth. (there might be more).
I have some experience in rooting and installing custom rom on my phones before (Nexus 5X, Xiaomi Redmi Not4x and Nextbit Robin), but somehow I am putoff rooting Samsung phone because of ODIN. But since her phone has already TWRP installed, I think I can manage here (already install Magisk on her phone).
Can anyone here recommend a nougat based custom rom which is stable and have little to no issue (like the ones mentioned above).
thanks in advance.

Bugs in stock phone

I am assuming once you root the phone and push a custom ROM onto the phone, this will fix HTC's introduced bugs?
Bluetooth
SMS battery drain
Reverting apps versions
Stuff like this.
No, because the custom ROM is just the Sprint ROM with a few additions and modifications.
Ouch.
ok, anyone working on compiling a 2.0 kernal?

Although the bugs are not fixed, rooting allow one to use various workarounds that would not be possible without, and in fact for EACH of the issues you have listed:
Bluetooth: http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/23854?tstart=0
While I cannot personally vouge for this, I have seen many posts on Sprint and here that detail the workaround described in the post as effective.
SMS Battery Drain: I think this may have actually been the first big bug discovered, and also fixed without root! Unfortunately, the default messaging app is defective, so in the meantime it is recommended to use either chompSMS or Handcent SMS from the Market until an update is released.
See this post: http://community.sprint.com/baw/thread/23043
Finally...
Reverting Apps: This is addressed on both forums, but a workaround only exists with root, and is similar in fashion to the bluetooth fix but for a different directory.

Hope this helps! I intend on posting a very detailed guide on every step of rooting, backing up, and working around most of the detailed problems in the very near future, stay tuned!
What I'd like is a kernel that will have this working as intended. But really, I am not afraid of the work arounds and the hands on work required, but if my wife had this phone with these problems, she would have chucked it out the window within days.
One more...
You left out the original bug (mentioned by briankwest, one of the first rooters), the TCP timestamp issue:
echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_timestamps
This could also be added to the MoDaCo init.rc so it is set at each boot (otherwise it will revert back to "1").

[Q] Android on HTC Touch Pro (Problems and Questions)

Hi,
I want to install Android on my HTC Touch pro. Now I've done a bit of research but I still ain't sure.
I Live in Malta, and bought an unlocked phone from the UK (eBay). I downloaded the XDAndroid thing from the XDAndroid Wiki but I don't know which is my exact model. I went with the RAPH800, and when I ran it, it seemed to get stuck on the booting. it said something about a bug :S I only could pull off the battery, as nothing else would work.
So, Im back to step one.
1. Which exactly is my phone model?
2. If it was the RAPH800, does it normally get stuck on 'bug KENDEL' something like that
3. How long does the booting take overall?
major props to any1 who helps me
EDIT: I also wanna do the Dual-Boot thing using using GenY-DualBOOT (got it from this website). Any1 can help me doing that, and if its worth it or no
Thanks guys.
P.S. I'm a noob, so I need very detailed instructions
OK, I have a new problem. i downloaded another installer, and it didn't crash. (There was a default SETUP.txt file so I used that. I'm getting to the XDAndroid screen, but then some grainy aindroid toolbar comes, my phone vibrates, and stops there :S
Any ideas (pics to follow soon)
Pics are huge, like 2MB each, and it doesnt let me post from tinypic before 7 posts -.- Hopefully you know what I mean

Last BUMP. If I don't get helped, I'll just give up

This might not be the right section to post this in. I would suggest going to the android development section for your specific phone.

"Serenity-ROM" - The counterpart to the "firefly-ROM"

-RESERVED! -
Here will be released the upcoming "Serenity-ROM", the counterpart to the "firefly"-ROM by me...
Currently the planning period for this ROM is in progress...
I think, it will become a "Low-Ressource" firmware, that will be quie fast...
But you can post any suggestions for this firmware here...
Can you Try following things in your new rom(for 8530) :
1. Please try to make rom fast so that we can play heavy games without lag and unlocking of phone without lag .
2. If possible, try to fix or remove memory leakage issue:silly:
3. if possible, add some kind of sound effect like vodoo or extreme grove in ROM
4. Make hidden bada storage visible via USB.
5. If possible,make GPS fix fast.:silly:
few more things still to come...
Thanks...
Regards,
WaveGuru
1. If it is possible to reduce the lag ... for example when I play Asphalt 6 all widgets are closed.
2. If it is possible to add a Facebook app that lets you know in real time when you receive a message, a LIKE or someone has written on the wall ... etc ... just like on Android.
3. If it is possible to add a GPS application that works and that you know when to turn right or left and when to go ahead ... I hope I did understand, because the already preinstalled, Samsung LBS, must be activated, to look your way from one point to another and to guide you on that road.
Waiting for your rom :good:
1. I think, nearly all widgets will be removed...
2. I'll only work with Java version of FB...
3. It is not planned to include navigation in this rom...
You have it in the "firefly" ROM with Route66... But, you need a license...
First impressions...
Welll....
Work is going on...
THX in advance to hero355, who gave me permission to use his Turko-CFW V8 as donor-FW...
But, this ROM will NOT become a copy of this one...
It'll only include some features, that you can also find in hero355's CFW ...
Stay curious...!
Taxidriver05...do you have a ETA for this ROM? I'm waiting for it like a baby waits for his chocolate
Currently NOT...
Need a little bit time for creating the ROM...
Currently less time for doing some firmware projects...

GPS Won't Fix Location

Hi good people of xda.
I'm hoping someone out there can help me as I'm at the end of my tether.
I recently noticed that my GPS wasn't working whilst running Goldfinger v8.
So I tried all the usual fixes (tightening screws, faster fix, topNTP, changing csc) and nothing works. I flashed back to a stock unrooted 4.4.2 firmware for my location UK (BTU) via odin and that didn't work. I am currently running Goldeneye v49.2 as the last time i remember my gps working was on a much earlier version of that rom (v20 something) but it isn't available to download anymore so i thought i'd try the latest but to no avail.
Unlike others that seemed to report no satellites in view, my phone sees them but will not get a fix .
I have also never used a 4.4.4 rom as I know that can cause gps problems when reverting back to 4.4.2.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Same problem here..help
I'm starting to think my gps is broken. If I put my phone in flight mode and open gps test it sees satellites but they are clustered in one direction
If I disable flight mode as soon as my phone connects to wifi I get a normal looking image.
I have tried so many stock firmwares, modems and cscs I've lost count. I've tried 4.4.2, 4.4.4 tw roms & 5.0.1 aosp and nothing is allowing me to get a gps lock. I haven't dropped my phone (much) and had what I'd call a heavy impact to have damaged the internal gps receiver/aerial so I'm really at a loss now. Looks like I'll be buying a new phone sooner than I thought

[Redmi7A] I hate MIUI, what options do I have ?

Hello,
I use a Lenovo K6 Power and though it has some issues, i love the stock android on this device. I recently got a Redmi 7A and I like the hardware it offers, WIFI Calling, dual 4G VoLTE standby but absolutely hate the MiUI.
Can you please suggest me if its possible to remove MiUI from my device.
I would like to install the original stock android like in my Lenovo K6 Power or something close to it.
I am aware it may void my warranty.
Cons about MiUI:
#1 auto brightness is either too dark or too bright.
#2 certain apps run out of the screen [refer to screenshot]
#3 notification sounds are different every time
#4 bloatware
Thanks for your help.
[if this is in the wrong section/sub-forum, kindly advise where to post this]

Hi there!
You have several options in the forum:
1. Mokee: i tried both the Android Q and Pie versions and Q worked better for me, with Pie i couldn't play audio and with Q i couldn't play audio sometimes
2. LineageOS: the last time i tried it it still had audio issues, couldn't make calls, i don't know if it still works
3. GSI roms: roms for treble enabled devices, such as ours. I'm currently using a lineageos 17.1 treble rom and so far has been working pretty good, the only thing i haven't tried yet are voip calls but i think they will work.
4. PhantomOS: not available yet but i'm eager to try it out, it's a modified MIUI and hopefully development flourishes.
5. Debloat stock MIUI: if none of the above work for you you can atleast debloat and root your device, the best way to debloat it is with XiaomiADBFastbootTools and root with magisk
Anyone of these options are way better than MIUI in terms of multitasking, battery and smoothness, at least in my opinion.
Hope that helps!
Or just get rid of the device like I did (see https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-7a/help/quick-questions-miui-11-t4081701) and get something better.
Another option if you can still live with the MIUI 11 bloat is to use a different launcher.
