It is great to password protect your apps using privacy guard, but the annoying part is once we try open a protected app, a notification is shown that the app is protected and to bring in the password screen you have to tap on that notification. Can't we miss the notification part? I mean isn't it possible that password screen opens directly once a user opens a protected app?

Hello,
I am having a problem with notification messages, on the home screen I have 'notification' in the bottom left corner when I select it the box where the notification info should be pops up but its empty- just an empty white box and the only option I have on it is 'hide'. When I tap on 'hide' the box disappears but it still says 'notification' and I cant seem to get rid of it, I have tried restarting and switching off completely and removing the battery but when I power it back up its still there and it wont go away.
Anybody else getting this or any idea of how to get rid of it?
Thanks.
Password issue
I also experienced the same problem. For my case, it's related to the lock/password setting. Everytime when I restart my Touch Dual, it will bring the password skin (of course I set it up intentionally for security reason). Then, the blank message comes up after I put my passwords.
The only way to remove it is to go to the setting/lock and input my password again. Then the blank notification message will go.........strange bug anyway.
I hope this help.
Thanks, I'll give it a try and yes it is a strange bug- do you use the autolock feature?
Auto lock for every 5 minutes
yes. I set it as every 5 minutes. It will lock.
Cheers,
Same bug here on the 20 key EU version...
Just wanted to say that chris_khho's solution of locking and unlocking does workaround the problem- thanks. Still annoying though. I'm also on a 20 key European version.
Blank notification message
Actually, you do not need to enter the password for this workaround. Go to Settings/Lock. Click on Menu/Cancel. The blank notification will go away.
I'm using Lock/Password. To remove blank message (after restart) just prepare new SMS with no recipient and jump to message body, then cancel message... This removes stupid blank notification....
Mortscript to remove blank notification
I've written a script (works with Mortscript from http://mort.sto-helit.de) to remove the blank notification. I save this as remove.mscr and place a shortcut to it in windows\start menu. I'm new to Mortscript so if anyone can improve this script, please let me know.
# remove blank notification
Run "\windows\ctlpnl.exe" , "cplmain.cpl,1"
Sleep(500)
SendSpecial("RightSoft")
SendSpecial("Up")
SendSpecial("CR")
This message disapears also when u change input type in any application.
from xt9 to abc or whatever.
This Bug seems to be related to devicelock and exchange btw.
Without i don't have this problem.
If your using Exchange then it forces you to use the lock due to security settings...at least on mine it gave me a message once i set up my exchange that it had to force security policies on my phone and then had to set the lock. does anyone know of a hack/workaround to disable to required lock with exchange?
OK guys, this one has been bugging me for a while now so i am asking for help. Im looking for a way to keep sms private on my phone. Currently I am using the privacy box in handcent sms (which is great for the most part) except for the fact that the notification system in the privacy box doesnt exactly work in my favor. If you turn notifications on and you recieve a notification it pops up the prompt for you to enter your password to the privacy box ( i can hear her saying "so why do you have a privacy box huh???) the other options for notifications are either for trackball light up or led notifications (which were obviously lacking). I just turn notifications off however theres obviously no way to know when youve recieved a reply.
So im sure someone out there has the same issue and im wondering how you guys work around it. any input helps thanks
just lock the phone with password....
use go sms pro. multiple privacy and notification options. and it's free.
Peronally I use Call Blocker app by NQ mobile, It has a lot of functionality including a private space which is password locked, and contains the SMS and call logs from the people you hae added to that list.
Personally, I dont use handcent or go sms' privacy option, i dont know why lol
however, i use app protector / other apps which locks multiple apps, to lock my personal stuffs like gmail, whatsapp
also i use GO SMS and enable the "privacy notification" mode so it only appears a logo at the top and tell you "new message" but without any information about the message. no sender, no content
i recommend you use my method too! hope i helped and happy messaging

Use Application Protection https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ruimaninfo.approtect&feature=search_result
1. Is there any way to prevent the screen from turning on when theres a notification from messaging ?
2. The privacy feature when disabled shows your text message on the lock screen ,Turning it off the message details get turned off in the drop down bar as well.
I noticed they added custom notification tones for ringer and messaging in the contacts app so I want to stop using SMS popup but these things are rather annoying.
I used to be able to see who SMS Texts were actually from on the lock screen with my S6. Now that I have the S8, it only shows that I have an SMS message and it won't show me who it's from unless I actually go into the Messages App? How do I make the sender visible on the lock screen?

Go to settings -> Lock screen and security -> Notifications -> make sure it's on , then go into that menu and make sure you do not have Hide content or notification icons only turned on - also make sure the toggle for all apps is turned on too
Also you have to be using the crappy stock Samsung Messages app, otherwise you won't get that little bubble notification or the edge screen light up. Was very annoyed to see both of those things disabled from working if you use Android Messages or any other app.

I went to Settings > Lock screen and security > Notifications (which is turned on) and then into that menu. In that menu I have the "Hide Content" toggle turned off - the "Notification icons only - Hide notification details and show only the icon" toggle turned off. The toggle for "All Apps" is On. But when I get a SMS message, it only shows "Messages" on the lock screen... not who it's actually from like it used to do with my Galaxy S6. What am I doing wrong?

Not anymore - Textra jsut updated last night and it has the option for Android heads up notification (ie Edge lighting) so you can choose which style.
Jsut tested and it works perfectly

Ever figure this out? I can't. I have done all of the above and gone into the message app and allowed for content to be displayed and gone into the always on display and allowed for content to be displayed. I am using the native message app. I still just get a message icon on my lock screen. No content. Super frustrating!

I has the same issue. I had googled a million times. Finally had a bright idea.... Go to setting > about phone > down at the bottom should say reset > reset all settings.
This doesn't erase your phone, only sets it back to default stiff like background, notifications, ringtones etc. BUT it finally shows the messages!
Any other suggestions on this? I've tried everything in this thread, including resetting my settings to default. Driving me nuts. After being on the pixel for the past 7 months until now, I've gotten very used to being able to see previews on the lock screen and replying from the lock screen too. I have all the appropriate settings checked that should be allowing me to see previews, but it doesn't. All I want is for the screen to briefly wake up when a text comes through, and to be able to preview it. Is this supposed to be possible on the S8?

SAME ISSUES HERE -- samsung s8/t-mobile
it seems as though the "show content" option for notifications has disappeared on the Samsung S8... I've tried everything i can think of and searched several boards and come up unsuccessful... the only options for notifications on a lock screen (at least for me - Samsung S8 on t-mobile) are: :hide content" or "do not show notifications".. both of which are not helpful when attempting to view the sender's name while hiding their actual text... HELP!
It works on textra under settings then customise notifications then at the bottom u will see privacy settings in there u can have it to show contact but hide message. Hope that's what you wanted. Cheers.

The only way I found to get to the lock screen and view/reply to text message is to double tap the home button first.
It's anoying additional step, but I'm trying to get used to it.

I am not sure if you have found a fix for this or not but.... Last week I accidentally factory reset my phone and lost everything. I still had my old phone and was able to transfer all that was there back over, but my screen stopped lighting up with new notifications. After spending the last hour trying to fix it I was successful!
Settings > Apps> Messages > gear icon above Force Stop > About Messages > update
I really hope this helps others.
How can I block call notifications from WhatsApp in Secure Folder??
I've tried to block all messages in the Secure Folder settings and I have turned off app permissions, but the WhatsApp call pop up still appear on the screen. Even when my screen is locked... I also tried to deny data access in the background and I also denied battery usage in the background. How do I block it? I don't even have to type in my Secure Folder password to accept the call and have a conversation...
I have moved the question to the Galaxy S9 forum.
