has anyone else noticed that the Shield TV Pro 2017 memory gets very low even when just idle. I am using Aida64 to view hardware and software on the shield and the app constantly reports memory as low as between 500-600 megs of memory available even when the shield is idle as in not streaming, or playing games or anything. just sitting there. Is this normal to have that much memory used by the system when not in use by any apps?
thanks

after running some programs and back to standby its 36-37%
what do you have x1i or x1a. mine is x1a with 4gb card.
X1i with 4gb card. sometimes i just use sktools to free up ram.
So.....what's the absolute minimum of free ram you need to have???
mine is around 30% usually
Mine is usually between 26-31% - with apps running and stuff. I also have Wifi enabled throughout the day with Microsoft DirectPush enabled...
32-42% usually
Mine 45 - 50% with around 7 progs always in the backr and rebooting every 7 days...
double..... please remove.
after fully charging my nexus 7 for the night i went to sleep, when i woke up in the morning the battery was down to 49%, wondering why the battery was going down so quickly, i moved to battery usage and guess BAM Media server top of the list with a whopping 46%. Wonder what caused this i searched around a google and concluded it is related to music, videos, pictures etc. However, since i recently bought the tablet i haven't gotten the chance to input any music vids or pics into. The next logical culprit for the high % is the apps, but since i downloaded a bunch of apps before hand i just opted for factory reset. now here comes the problem, even with Currents, googlenow disabled and no apps downloaded, media server is still at 35%! Does any1 know of any other things that might be causing such a high media server battery usage? Thank You very much.

For me its not more than 10% always, & as per my knowledge mediaserver is all about CPU & keep awake , so maybe some crappy apps causing the issues, so try to test by unistalling them, For me "screen " is always drains almost more than 60% , Got lucky to prove Asus that its battery fault so getting replacement of battery .
I have seen posts that point to the cause being a corrupt media file. Some have mentioned fixing by deleting corrupt video files and my wife had a bad music file that was causing all kinds of problems until I found and deleted it. Also, you can copy a 0-byte '.nomedia' file into any folder you don't want indexed by media server.
I have the 6gb ram model and most games don't stay in memory for more than 10-15 mins. Apps like chrome or whatsapp stay in memory for long times. Why is this and how can I improve the retention time for games?
I've tried rebooting and turning doze mode off. This has been a problem since the beginning.

Android manages RAM automatically. If I understand what you're asking I don't think there is a way for a user to force an app to stay in RAM. What's the reason you are trying to do this?
Maybe it's to save battery. Games still drain the battery even if they don't actively run in the foreground.

Then why even leave it running in the background?

I meant that's why it probably doesn't keep the games in memory for more than 15 minutes.

If I'm playing a game and stop playing it for 15-20 mins then come back to it, it restarts. That's not normal, right? Especially with 6gb ram. Memory stats show 2.5-3 gb free ram still most games get flushed out of memory.

As I mentioned earlier, that's probably to reduce battery drain.
Even if you're not playing the game, it still runs in the background and uses battery... A lot of battery since it's a game.
An app may be closed/removed from memory for a variety of reasons, including:
1. not enough memory
2. drains battery and inactive
3. the app is programmed to close after inactivity
Option 2 is likely what is happening, as others have mentioned. Perhaps within the battery options, you can set it to not optimize the app.
Disable Memory management (LMK for example) and remove the max open app limit...
Or just configure the game's battery optimization to "not optimized".
Hello,
How to be sure my OP 8 pro uses bluetooth low energy with speaker ?
Cause I feel it uses a lot of battery with default settings, something like 10% for a day intensive usage.
My husband got a Tab A 10.1 last year for Christmas and uses it mainly for streaming music on YouTube and surfing marketplace on Facebook. While I know both apps are battery hogs, the battery drain is still unreal. Just having the tablet on the "home" screen for 5 mins will drain the battery 14%.
I have either removed or disabled all the apps not needed, have optimization setting set (says battery life is over a day haha), brightness is low and on auto, and also have an auto app kill installed to stop apps in background. Have gone through and removed background permission and set allowed open background to only 2.
Short of rooting, which I prefer to not do with the lack of options, is there anything else that I can do here? Is this a common issue with this tablet?

If you are having that kind of battery drain just on Home screen, without the music or facebook apps running, either the battery is bad or you have some kind of malware. Have you tried factory reseting the tablet? Or running malware detection app?

I have run the built in tablet scan for virus and malware threats but have not installed an independent app. I will try that though and see what happens. I will also look and see if this tablet is still not under warranty, but honestly just going a phone repair to have battery replaced might be cheaper and faster than sending back to Samsung. Thanks for the help.
