G1 Screen burned in image....

I did not think you could burn a image in to the screen on these phones but I just found a dark burned in spot on the bottom left of my screen....
Not sure what to do about it makes me sad :-(
Just thought I would warn people that it seems you can burn images in to the screen.... I was using a hero theme on my phone that has the launher bar the graphic for that burned in to the bottom left of my screen.

Wow, I thought image burn-in only effected CRTs. I'm sorry for your loss :-( What are you going to do? If it's in warranty you could probably send it to HTC.

Yeah I am going to check the warranty and see if I can send it in for a replacement or a new screen or something.
But yeah I thought it only effected CRTs to and not LCD screens so I am not sure why it has the spot. it is weird it is a faded dark spot like that part of the screen is failing but if you look hard you can see the circle with the arrow in it like the graphic the theme I had on used nothing seems to make it go away.

Actually.. I believe all our phones does this? For example, open up browser and Google, then hit home. Go outside under very very bright sunlight, and you can still see the burned in image of the browser.

Updated I took the battery out of my phone and let it set for about 10 minutes then put it back in the image has gone away but there is still a faint dark spot in that corner. this image stayed on the screen even after doing two wipes and installing two new roms on the phone. the image only went away after leaving the battery out for 10 minutes.

Yeah I know but I was flashing a new rom anyway figured it would not hurt anything

LCD don't get burn in like a CRT but it does do SOMETHING less permanent that has a similar affect as burn in. I forget what it's actually called though.

It must be some other kind of damage, as it is not possible to "burn in" a lcd. There are no elements in a LCD that can be irreversibly biased toward one color due to normal usage.

This isn't burn-in, its just a characteristic of the LCD module used in the Dream.

it is possible on lcds to get burnin, its just not burn in, its called image persistence, it just needs the image to be on the screen alot longer than on a plasma or crt for it to occur

Try using a flashlight program that sets the screen to white this should reset the colors.

i have noticed this too but i agree with RaiderX303 that its not actual burn-in but the screen's characteristics while in operation. if you let the phone sit for a short while and then go outside and look at it again, you wont see any marks or ghost images....
hoestly, its a cheap LCD screen and its to be expected...
As for the original poster... have you left the phone in direct sunlight? maybe on a window or in your car? The sun has tendencies to mark or "blot" the screens cause they heat up and leak, looks like an ink blot.... as me how i know this... LOL, either way, try changing the phone cause i dont think i would be able to live with a marked screen either

thats what Pioneer does to their Kuro's and it's one hell of an idea if you havent tried it yet. But to the other posters yes LCD's arent perfect either and while it isnt called burn in, its pretty much the same thing to a lesser extent.

Dark spots on an LCD can also be "pressure points", ie, the LCD has been subjected to excessive pressure at that spot at some point, and basically it gets, in laymen terms, a "bruise"... not fully broken, but damaged. Usually happens if some the phone freezes and some yahoo that borrowed your phone decides pressing harder will make things work again.... or it pressed up against that marble in your pocket a bit too hard, etc.

Screen Burn In

Since the Nexus S uses the same SAMOLED as the Galaxy S phones (which are prone to burn in due to its technology), I would expect it to have the same problem.
Just a heads up because someone is bound to come here complaining about it sooner or later.
The first thing people notice is the AM/PM burn in, so if you care, I recommend switching to military time

The a.m. / p.m. was removed in Gingerbread.

I will ALWAYS use ADW or Launcher Pro from now on to hide the notification bar to avoid screen burn. I also use a non-stock browser (Dolphin atm) to hide the notification bar as well.

My captivate has never burned in, but I do keep it on lowest brightness settings.

you know what? I just now noticed that!

My nexus one has burn in of the notification bar too. The white color causes it but now since its black it will reduce it. But the white text like the clock time can still cause it. Use launcher pro to hide the bar completely is recommended to reduce the time showing a static image in one spot.

Already have Burn in on the Nexus S
LOL I am sure this will cause a ruffle tuffle. But I know how you guys like to ***** about stupid **** so here goes.
I have keyboard burn in on portrait mode. Simple test. With no notifications and keyboard up pull down the notification window. You will see that the keys's outline still show. Now hide the keyboard and do the same. You will see the outline still in the notification pull down.

Oh boy; I'll let others have a go at this post.

I don't know what your talking about. The keyboard does not show through the notification bar for me

Its not permanant bro..

I've been turning the screen timeout off to prevent the screen from turning off while gaming until the game devs update for Gingerbread compatibility. Last night I left it on when I went to sleep and a scheduled backup woke the phone up in the middle of the night. Screen was on for 6 hours displaying the same image. Absolutely no image burn.
If you're seeing burn-in after using the phone normally, you need to exchange it.

its an lcd not plasma. you wont get burn in this quicly if any. you have an issue with your phone.
the other day someone posted something like that. about burn in issue in weird vertical lines. i thought he is talking about the screen grid pattern that its more obvious in some poor designed screen than others.

Does the nexus s use a different type of screen than the galaxy phones? My vibrant uses a super amoled screen, which I believe have more of a chance for screen burn in than plasma.

I actually have this problem lol Even the XDA app back button is burnt in and can be seen when a gray background is shown.....Basically every time you open the notifications tab.

Umm its not an lcd, its an amoled and they absolutely suffer from burn in. Just ask the many nexus one owners. It took only one month from brand new for my notification bar to burn in to the screen. All Samsung amoled screens suffer from this, including the nexus s will too. Unless of course you're careful not to allow any one static image to remain on the screen for too long.

hmm weird i dont remember having this on my galaxy S. this is really weird to hear :/

Problem with my SuperAmoled Plus Screen!

When i received the phone today (around 3pm uk time) after an hour playing around with it i noticed 3 dark thick lines on the bottom half of the screen (on a gray background) i thought nothing of it at first and continued to use the phone.
Only just now i thought there must be a problem so i displayed a full white image and you could really notice those 3 thick dark lines. I then changed the screen brightness to max, min then back to auto and it was gone... BUT! when the screen dims a bit just before turning off i can see those 3 thick lines again just for those few seconds before the screen turns off.. it doesnt really effect me but it annoys me that they are there.. plus there might be problems with it in the future. I'm gonna go to my local Carphone Warehouse tomorrow and see if they can replace it.
I just want to know if any one else has had this screen problem.

Do the lines correspond to anything that is on the screen often like the keyboard or some sort of widget you have on your home screen?
These SAMOLED screens suffer from image retention and possibly burn-in. I've noticed it on my original galaxy as well as the Nexus S. As long as the lines go away after a few seconds it should be nothing to worry about. If you notice them there always then that could be a problem... usually the easiest way to see them is on a flat gray background.

oh boy, its too soon to be having any burn in. might be another issue.
my nexus one has burn in of the status bar at the top. and i can see a burn in of my entire keyboard on a white image. after more than a year of using the phone, oh well. but the status bar burn in was there within the first month.

the lines are:
1: just above where the 4 icons are at the bottom of the screen
2: where the page numbers are (dots)
3: just below the other 4 icons (widgets)
Thing is that these lines are solid and have no breaks in them.. so i dont think its the 3 points i gave above this.

I know it's too early for burn-in but some screens (might I say... all?) come from the factory with some sort of flaw. None of them are perfect and most have flaws so imperceptible that most people wouldn't notice. Every nexus S and Galaxy I've seen had some sort of area or line or multiple lines on the screen which were a bit different color, not as bright, or something along those lines. Some are worse than others, and I noticed the flaws right after taking it out of the box brand new. (I've been through about 6 Nexus S's between me and a few friends).
It's not really the same as a traditional LCD/LED screen since there's not a big backlight. Each pixel is individually lit and some may have specifications that are just on the edge of within manufacturer limits. There's almost 400,000 pixels on the screen... the chances of all of them being created identically is slim to none.
If it bothers you I say just take it back and get an exchange, showing them the problem area on the screen. Just hope your new one will be "less flawed" =)

Yeah, The last phone i had, had problems with the camera.. i went through about 5 of them and i ended up with one that was the same as the first one i had.
Can you guys have a look at yours?
Just open up a pure white image and check.. if there are no lines wait till it dims the screen and check again... thanks.

Did you put a screen protector on it???

No not yet.

Dang... The screen protector I put on my sgs has imperfections in it that make the screen appear to have dis coloured pixels in a straight line, but alas, this is not your issue..

if it is really faulty, you should contact the seller to replace it.

well i dont have a good quality camera. You might of seen it before i changed the brightness settings but now that i have its kind of faint and you can only see it when the screen dims..
Gonna go to carphone warehouse now be back later

well before i went i called up all the carphone warehouses near me and none of them have stock.
I was told i only have two options:
1: go to a carphone warehouse and exchange.
2: go to a carphone warehouse and get a refund then order it online again.
So i should get a new one by tomorrow.. or atlest on friday.

no poroblems like that with mine. Screen is freaking perfect. On a side note i liked doing this test because I love staring at the screen.

well well well.
Went to lakeside since the one near me closed at 7pm.
Changed the phone again and this one had the lines on the screen and a dig in the silver bezel. She gave me another phone and the screen was perfect and there are no digs on the silver bezel...
In 2 days iv had my hands on 4 different S2's lol..
Last phone i had i also had 4 of them cause of XXX problems.. thought i was gonna beat it today and have 5 XD

Geebuz wept! I'm getting mine in from the UK tomorrow. I hope for hell sake it doesn't have imperfections. The ship back to the UK would be a disaster and if that one has a dig in the bezel upon return I'd blow a valve!

as far as i know. this is the grid pattern on the super amoled screens. however. because of the poor QA/QC of the screens, some of those grid patterns are more visible than other area of the screen.
the whole super amoled is about lines on a grid pattern. if you notice more deeply, you will see that you also have those " lines " some where else on the screen yet they are not visible as the one you noticed.
i had to go through 4 galaxy S1 to get a good one where the pattern isnt "visible " through the whole screen.
its a defective unit. mainly poor Qa/QC. if you can live with it, it wont do you any harms. or get bigger. if you cant, then change it.
or and make sure you dont have a dud phone with piss poor yellow white on high brightness or pink gray on low brightness. because thats also a defect in super amoled screens.

Super Amoled Plus screen burn-in

Its been about a month since the launch of the SGS2. I know it may be a bit early but has anyone noticed any image retention or screen burn? I haven't as of yet and I but i do keep my brightness usually on the lowest all the time im at home. Outside its on Auto.
Also even if anyone hasn't how long will it take to happen since I know that all OLed displays including TV's eventually retain images?

I have a Galaxy S. For my phone, It took around 4 months to burn down some pixels after keeping the Screen on for about 3 hours a day. The Status bar was visible on blue background along with screen burn where AM and PM is displayed.
Best Practice is to keep changing the Orientation of the phone frequently and use a Theme with transparent status bar and switch to 24 hour clock to prevent burn in of AM or PM pixels, since they are ON all the time.

Yeah, im trying to do that as much as i can especially changing the orientation with the market and some apps.
So once your pixels gets burned in, can you change them back to normal by putting a different colour over the burned area or is it for good?

I think UK as all the Europe uses 24h clock. So no need to worry about am pm burn in.

"4 MONTHS" any sign of any burn in on my screen and i`ll be looking for a replacement under the warrenty. If this is the case then i`m afraid the Amoled technology is a complete failure in my opinion...!!!

Basically LED displays comprise of 3 LEDs. Red, Blue and Green. When they lit up all together, the form white. Unlike the LCD technology, LED's are diodes which convert electricity into Light and hence they have a lifespan. They gradually start degrading which reduces the amount of light that they emit.
Blue has the highest tendency to degrade faster, hence the AMOLED screens have a Bluish tint to compensate for the same.
Suppose you use a 12 Hour clock and you have AM and PM displayed all the time, as a result of this, the blue pixels that are present at the AM, PM display location degrade, which causes a color imbalance. I.e the other pixels emit more light, but the "Burnt" pixels emit less light. At a later stage when the other 2 LEDs start getting burnt, you can see a patched up section, which represents the burnt pixels, which could be spotted on specific backgrounds.
There is no way to fix screen burn than to get a new display. There is a HUGE topic about screen burn in SGS section. It's worth a read.

I got my galaxy s in August last year and there is a large amount of burn in especially where the clock is.
You can check the individual colours in SGS tools or the xda app when you first open it.

I haven't had any burn-ins whatsoever with my SGS. I had it since October and used it everyday. None. Just checked after reading this thread. None whatsoever.
Koreans are very critical of things they buy. They are one of if not THE country where consumer reports are spread fastest due to their connectivity with the web. Things like this is just NOT accepted over there. And there would be a country outrage especially regarding Samsung products. I highly doubt this is the case. Maybe you have a one off defect.

The Burn-in is caused by the short life of the blue pixel.
I suggest don't make blue pixel lit in the status bar.
I don't know if there has any launchers could make Time and Signal status area displayed in yellow or green rather than white.

My nexus one had status bar burn in within the first month. Still there, no way to reverse it.
But using launcher pro is best solution which hides the status bar completely.

Same here I have had an S1 since it was launched. I used it heavily every day, the screen was on a lot as i used it as an ebook reader. There is zero burn in (checked using screen test).
A friend has one as well, which he bought at the same time as me, he is very critical of every detail, and there is zero burn in on his either.

No one should have to use any programs to hide status bars etc, just to try and prevent it. If it happens then in my opinion its a defect and should be replaced.

That's what two year warranties are for I guess. Like post above, I would love to hear of successful replacement for original sgs.

Many people exchanged their nexus one, desire, galaxy s, for a new screen and the burn in just happened again after a month on the replacement. Not much can be done just live with it.

How serious of a burn are we talking about here? A slight shadow or a full on watermark type situation??
Just curious as mine is en route but if this is as bad as some are making out then it will be a deal breaker for me....

warranty ain't issued by Samsung for nothing. Loving this phone. Its blazing fast since day 1 and ain't getting slower. Over 150 apps now installed. Still as fast ==3

Doesn't effect the user much. Barely visible on daily use.

I9000 since august, no burn in so far , used everyday..
I9100 since, well less than a month, ofc no burn in

Its very very light, barely noticeable unless you look hard for it on white web pages. This is prob why not everyone sees it cause they are looking for something much worse.

I have a slight temporary image retention on my phone, it only lasts a few seconds after using the keypad or the circular lock screen etc , but its pretty noticeable on a dark background
Sure, it fades after a few seconds, but I'm quite concerned that it'll cause lasting damage over time.
I'll try get some snaps, later.. my phone is er, 3 days old

I've got S4 ~ only weeks old for now, barely used it and got the numbers burned in on the screen barely visible in blue background so the screen burn in started in that area clearly (they have been present for more than a week) i changed to swiftkey in order to avoid the whole situation and i always hide actually my keyboard when not in use and such. however the weird part i feel the numbers are becoming more visible now in the blue background than they were before i change the keyboard? does the detoration keep happening in the same area even tho i changed the keyboard itself ? is there a way i can prevent it from happening. and the status bar if possible i want to hide it but keep being able to drag the notification center?

There is an app that claims to repair burn-ins by scroling black and white bars. I have the app (pro) myself but haven`t used it yet to repair burn-ins. Link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gombosdev.displaytester.

That is a myth. Once the screen is burnt in there is nothing you can do. Claim the warranty.

now the burn ins got even more as in more places and such, thing is i'm abroad now and samsung as other companies warranty is not international sadly. i have this display tester pro app and tried it for some minutes didnt see any difference maybe i've used it wrong. weird doesnt that mean all s4 will get at some point burn in. weirdly thought amoled tech have been advanced at least to the extent that it doesnt burn in that fast :/
i heard there is a way to make inverse of burn in and leave it on so that burn in goes complete screen loses tiny amount of contrast but become equal fully once again something of that sort... is it possible any suggestion :/ never going for amoled again (coming from iphone)

I had this problem on my old HTC One S (similar PenTile display), so I've learned my lesson now and run a screen burn tool every night to prevent the problem from happening. It must be done on full brightness.

Yeah, burn-in is one of the reasons i went with an lcd phone, i was paranoid about it happening with my S3, running white screen deadpixel finder at full brightness every couple of days, move your icons around, keep your brightness as low as possible, there is an app called "burn in Savior" for the notification bar i also used "go launcher" to hide the notification bar, also change your clock on the n-bar to 24hr so the am/pm don't burn in.
You guys should see the HTC One M7 screen it`s glorious, no burn-in worries.

Had the HTC One, was a nice device but like all phones it has its disadvantages:
- trapped within the CID, unless you have S-Off and change CID manualy
- Unlocking the bootloader may cause warranty issues, even if relocked
- Slow updates
- No removable battery
- No external SDCard

I suppose you have to decide what is more important to you!, I would love an S4 as well. :good:
