[Q] Want to upgrade to 5.0.1 officially.

Hello,
I bought Note 4 (Model: SM-N910F) in Germany, and now running android version
4.4.4, I want to upgrade to the official version 5.0.1 from website:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N910F/
Which version is recommended from the website?
Debating between both versions: Germany or Unknown, Which version is preferable?
And do need root to flash a new version?
I am interested in a clean system with no additives/applications (in English) with good battery time.
Thanks,
idan.

You don't need root to flash a new firmware.
I would recommend wiping the phone to factory status before you flash a new firmware.
N910F will use the BOC3 software.
This should work okay.
/N910FXXU1BOC3_N910FVFG1BOC2_VDC/
Yes of course, I will implement to make a factory reset before flash new firmware.
BOC3 = Unknown version.
I understand this rom from Dutch, It will be ok? or wait to OTA upgrade?
After upgrade system to 5.0.1, my device will receive OTA?

I upgraded a few days ago from N910FXXU1ANK4 ATO 4.4.4 to N910FXXU1BOC3 Unknown and I can say that it's working nicely. Had issues when updating as I was first trying to flash a BOC3 version from RO Vodafone, but had issues while flashing (Volume size too big, Odin invalid ext4 image). I was able to upgrade to N910FXXU1BOC3 Unknown without any issues.
In case you get into trouble while upgrading, you can do a emergency re-initialization from Kies3, based on your model number and serial number (on device, under the battery).
If you are flashing a different region ROM, make sure you do not have Reactivation lock as it will block your attempt to flash a new ROM.
@lolozaur thanks about information.
Version N910FXXU1BOC3 (5.0.1) will include touchwiz interface?
I prefer a clean system like nexus version, can you recommend a convenient interface (launcher)?

Don't have much information regarding the Note 4 ROM community as i just got the device one week ago.
But, if you want to keep your Knox counter set to 0 and have your warranty available, you have to flash only stock ROMs from good sources (i prefer sammobile).
I personally like the new Touchwiz on 5.0.1 and I think it will keep getting better when we'll get the S6 Touchwiz in future updates. I would not flash an AOSP ROM on the Note 4.
Not sure about this but if you want an AOSP OS (nexus version) you will be losing some of the functionality of the Note 4, such as the S-Pen and S-Note integration and maybe the S-Health and Heartrate sensor.
@lolozaur
Flash of new version 5.0.1 can lock again device for locked region?
The lock was released by call (5 minutes) with local microsim.
Thanks.

It should not lock. My device is also used outside the unlock region and I did not have any troubles after the upgrade.
I am flashing 5.0.1 and looks good! even touchwiz interface looks clean.
Thank you for your kind assistance.

anyway to flash the U firmware on QK1?

Anyway ? I get errors.
probably not, you will need to wait until Samsung updates the U firmware bootloader to version 5 as currently the sprint s7 is the only one with a version 5 bootloader.

can please answer and tell me what is my download firmware and if my actual is the last?
and if i avoid warranty if install the new downloaded?
thanks many
THIS is the newest version for italian unbranded g950f devices. I believe you already are on this firmware.
And no your warranty is not void if you simply flash an official firmware.
Based on this search:
yours must be in this link:
https://updato.com/firmware-archive-select-model?record=19E8AE841DD011E89F15FA163EE8F90B
also in that link contains how to flash the firmware.
after you extract it, there will be couple of files, just be careful, put the HOME_CSC_OLE on Odin's CSC field.
do not put CSC_OLE there.
Last help please. In my actual rom already oreo, can i do the steps to flash without risk bootloop?
I thank you very much fir patience
Yes you can flash this without risking a bootloop, but thats exactly the firmware you already have? it would make no sense at all, as you're allready on the newest firmware.
I thank you... But i am afraid that something gone bad when i flashed update... WhatsApp often crash when i send images and others.... I hope to solve with new flash, wrong idea according to you? I already formatted resetted.... Please help me....
Very thanks
The whatsapp crash when trying to send photos is a known issue, try to google it (although it doesn't affect me)
the four options im aware of now are:
*live with the whatsapp crash, hope a future update will fix it
*try another firmware with another csc. As long as you don't need carrier spcific settings (like VoLTE,...) this shouldn't bother you. For instance with the BTU csc.
*go back to nougat and wait for a newer oreo update
*when you don't mind triggering knox 0x1 try a custom ROM like Renovate ICE, I never had problems with this ROM
*
Many thanks for patience, i hope another question from you... If i want install firmware oreo brand tim italy, ore go back to nougat... Can i di the same steps flashing from that website? After can i fkash going back and refkash without probkems if flash roms branded, unbranded or nougat and oreo? Please last help
Yes you can download whatever firmware you want from updato.com as long as it is for the model sm-g950f, it doesn't matter if its 8.0 TIM Italy/8.0 germany T-mobile/7.0 italy unbranded/...
As long as the model is right you can flash whatever you want/switch between Oreo and Nougat/switch between countrys and carriers/...
i thank you. you were very helpful for me. thanks from italy!!!!
No problem, greetings from austria
please, can help me yet? when i insert all 4 files in odin, the phone is seen from odin on com6 but the flash shown done in 1 second and the phone reboot. what wrong? thanks

[F8331] Change stock firmware for a better LTE signal

Hi everybody,
I'm new here, I have bought my first sony (used) but I notice that the LTE signal is so poor specially indoor. The seller hasn't saw me that the firmware is an UK fw also I live in italy, infact, after a little research, I noticed that there is a carrier's app called EE and the fw version installed is of EE carrier's. The phone is sim unlock. There isn't root and I haven't unlook the bootloader.
My questions are:
- Can I change the stock uk firmware putting in an Italian stock firmware?
- Can I change it without root and without unlook the bootloader?
- How?
- Is there a guide that I can follow?
- Can I change the CSC for preserve the ota upgrade? How? I'd like to change fw preserving OTA update.
I don't wanna unlock the bootloader and root the phone cause I don't want lose the DRM licenses (widevine specially). I'm not interested to rooting or make any modding.
I'd like to put a stock room without bloat apps and with a strong lte signal.
Here the Info about the phone:
F8331
Android 8.0
Phone Software Version: 1302-9157_41.3.A.2.171
Global-LTE3A
Generic-41.3.a.2.171
S1 Boot version: 1299-4832 S1_BOOT_MSM8996_LA2.0_O_204
BASEBAND: 8996-8996.gwn.prodQ-00070-40
Customization version: 1305-7307R8E
Codes phone for CSC doesn't work.
Thanks y for the support

I think it should be possible to just Flash another Regions Firmware via Androxydes Flashtool.
No need for unlock as long as u have any offical fw (XperiFirm comes with Flashtool and downloads offical files)
But I may be wrong tho, this just came to my mind in the first moment

Thanks you LoaderFabi for the suggest, so I will waiting for a confirmation about that.
Meanwhile can y tell me a link to a guide and download the tool?
Anyway, thanks again ?
You can flash any region's firmware without unlocking the bootloader. You need Xperifirm to download the firmware, and Flashtool to flash it.

Ok, and about the OTA's update? Will it be automatically? Or do I have something about? And how?
Can you link me a guide to flash the fw and, eventually, to do something about OTA's update?
Thanks

Since it's an official firmware, you always get updates OTA (i think XZ will no longer get updates but no need to worry). I didn't see any guide to flash, i'll probably today write a guide to flash firmwares.

Please i wanna know if its possible, wich i presume it is, and what version of Odin should i use ? I do have downloaded 5 files official rom wich i already flashed last year from Oreo to Nougat, but i have problem flashing it from PIE to Nougat. What version of Odin do i need and what setting?

You can not downgrade bootloader versions. So if your on pie with version 4 bootloader the lowest you can go is the earliest version of Oreo with bootloader version 4. Anything with 3,2 or 1 bootloader can't be flashed.
My god. So there is no Odin way or any other way to bypass bootloader restriction?

As far as I know no you can't downgrade bootloader versions.
Thanks for the reply. I just flashed the earliest Oreo firmware with bootloader binary 4 wich is actually last big change in stable releases of Oreo. NExt 3 releases were only security updates. I cant get lower then that since two more Oreo firmwares before that had BL number 3 and 2 - Nougat starts with 1 unfortunately. I really hoped maybe guys on XDa figured this thing out too downgrade to lower BL numbers, but i guess its not possible. .If i knew that before, i would never upgrade this shi..t to PIe. Hopefully Oreo will do fine now.
