Hi Everyone
I would like to hear what smartwatch Mode do you think is the best : Stand Alone or Phone Companion and answer some questions:
1.Standalone Mode what will be in this mode the most important and what you will use the most?
2.Phone Companion Mode : What you will use the most in this mode and what you will want to have ?
3.Phone Companion Mode : When you will receive a phone call do you think you will like to answer from your smartphone or your smartwatch ?
4.What Mode you will think use the most ?
5.Someone that use yet a smartwatch how is your experience what is not practical, what did you not like?
Specify the model and if its was a Standalone or a Phone Companion.
Thanks

Hi Damien, you probably know my reply already since we discussed it off-line
For me Companion mode is the most important. I would like to receive notifications of who is calling (so I can keep my phone on mute most and out of sight), notifications of txt message and being able to view it on the smartwatch (typically an easy implementation since its a short plain unformatted text), notification of calendar events so I don't miss a meeting or an upcoming appointment, and email notifications with a preview of the message.
In my personal opinion, answering call from a phone is optional but not necessary. Phone call is a private thing. I just would like to see who is calling and then make a decision if I want to dismiss the call (maybe with a simple rejection button or an option to send a few pre-defined txt messages like "i'm busy" or "will call you back soon"). If I need to pick up the call, I can always get my phone out of the pocket or pick up the call on bluetooth headset. With text message and calendar events, as I mentioned above, it is nice to preview on the screen of the smartwatch where I think 1.54"+ display is big enough to preview simple short text. With emails, it would be nice to see who is it from and body of the text. I wouldn't expect replying back from the watch; if its important and needs my immediate attention - I will take out my phone and type away the reply.
Of course, music control (of the songs on the phone and also songs stored on internal to smartwatch microSD card) would be important. Also, getting weather notifications from the phone is a big plus, as well as battery status of your smartphone.

Hi vectron
Thanks to taking your time to answer to all my questions, interesting suggestions like to see the battery status of your smartphone on your smartwatch seems to me a great Idea....
Just one question A.I Watch have a music player and you can play music directly from your A.I Watch, so why can be interesting to control your smartphone music from A.I Watch?

If you pair up your smartwatch with a phone (wireless through bluetooth), your smartwatch becomes a controller just like any wireless headphone with playback control. That's how it works with a Pebble, Metawatch, and any other basic smartwatch. It becomes very useful when you are streaming music from your phone to external wireless speaker and can control playback right from your smartwatch.

Hi Vectron
Thanks for your reply
Yes but If I am correct on all those smartwatches that you mention you dont have the possibility to add music directly on the smartwatch and due of that not able to connect them to a Bluetooth speaker directly you always need to past from your smartphone....
You dont think its useless on a stand alone smartwatch ??

Yes, you are correct. Those other smartwatches don't have internal storage, so it makes sense to use them as wireless controller for audio playback on your smartphone. With AI Watch, TrueSmart and others you have an option of internal storage. As a matter of fact, I often use my TS as mp3-player on a wrist with my wireless headphones paired up directly. So in a way, its redundant to either play music from your watch or use your watch to control your music on the phone, since you can pair up external speaker directly to your watch. I do see your point now.
I believe there is a need for both a Standalone and a Companion. A standalone is great for those of us who have to carry two phones all the time. I know many people at work who have to carry their work phone and a personal phone, and at work the only thing the personal gets used for is checking email and taking calls from the wife. To be able to use the watch for that while still carrying the work phone for use all day would be great. And to be clear, the watch would ONLY be used for the personal as a standalone, and not also a companion for the work phone at the same time.
As a companion, which is how I use my Smartq Zwatch now is fairly useful, but would be infinitely more useful if: 1. Low power Bluetooth internet tethering; and 2. I need the option to let the watch make changes to the phone. I bought this watch so that I could see when I received text and email messages without pulling my phone out of my pocket but now I find that every time I receive a message I have to delete it from my phone AND my watch which actually make MORE steps in the process in stead of making the process easier. If I could have the option to "Delete Message From Phone?" Each time I deleted the message on the watch then it would make the process faster.
Just my two cents.

While running today I had a thought. I use my smartwatch with my Galaxy Note 3. The phone is really big but I love the s pen, the media capabilities, and the battery life. But there are times when I'd rather not carry such a big phone so I keep an old galaxy Nexus lying around. What would be really cool would be to have all the cellular capabilities built into my watch with the ability to bluetooth tether lte data through the watch and into the phone. The the phone mfg's could make sick devices without having to include radios. Instead of having to pay $700 for this phone I could have bought a Note 8 for like $300. I know the watch would be more expensive, but some are already paying $300+ for a watch AND $600 for a phone.
Then when I go running for instance, the watch could connect via bluetooth to my headset and I wouldn't have to carry around my phone at all since this screen does nothing for me while running.

So, is there a watch (ZGPAX, SmartQ, HOT) which does all of this today ? I don't see why this would be so hard today. Doesn't Android allow applications to communicate with notification manager. Isn't it just a matter of pushing all your notifications from phone to watch ? This is for messaging and phone calls. For email and other apps, update happens automatically on all devices which shouldnt need anything special to work on a watch

Hi ofsinreno
Thanks for all your suggestions, A.I Watch definitely do that we working on a Phone companion app by Bluetooth, and not Bluetooth tethering to be more battery efficient for both side, for now we succeed to get notifications etc...We still testing everything with different Android versions.
Hi cyrux004
Yes you are right all the smartwatches that you mention have this possibility but for the ZGPAX and SmartQ its by Bluetooth tethering and its not at all battery efficient. for the Hot is not a stand alone smartwatch so only the Phone companion option.
A Bluetooth app of this kind is new for everyone so actually not a lot of developers know how to develop it.

I always carry two numbers. My company number rings the most and having that sim in my smart watch instead of having two phones would be easier for me. Options like camera, media, anti theft, sdcard and internal storage are something I need for everyday use. Wifi is a must and if possible since the watch can use simcard I can use gps and edge to connect if no wifi is available. I know for some of this may seem too much but I prefer my smart watch to be a back up for my phone just in case and also have the option of controlling my phone remotely.

Hope this review of BlueWatcher is objective! Written from the heart... Let's begin... and SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH!
Casio, known for its extensive collection of watches including electronic components, decided in 2012 to introduce Bluetooth Low Energy technology in some of its G-Shock watch models. It was not only a proof of concept, the variety of Casio Bluetooth models was growing over the years. Now you can buy the following Casio models with Bluetooth technology: Casio G-Shock GB-5600, Casio G-Shock GB-6900, Casio SPORTS STB-1000, Casio G-Shock GBA-400. The GBA-400 is the latest model of the G-Shock Bluetooth family and promises to have on your wrist a remote control for your music player.
A watch with Bluetooth technology is nothing if you don't have the associated mobile application that performs communications and implement all that functionality that makes our watch a real smartwatch. Therefore, Casio accompanies its Bluetooth watches with its official application called G-Shock+ ( Available for iOS and Android) . In recent years, Casio offered very limited functionality for notifications and phone control. Have been multiple the alavanzas Casio received but has also received many criticisms of reduced functionality offered in its G-Shock+ application. Users are requesting that Casio explodes the true potential Casio watches to become a real smartwatch.
Given this expectation of users to include functionality in G-Shock+ app that seemed mandatory, appeared the Android application called BlueWatcher. Detailed information about the application: http://www.bluewatcher.es
BlueWatcher is the unofficial app and the alternative to control Casio watches with Bluetooth technology. BlueWatcher stems from the concern of how a tough watch, with approximate battery life of two years , world leader in design ... was not able to exploit the true potential as a "smart watch" . Casio remains halfway so BlueWatcher intended to help us go the whole way.
To summarize, What does Official Casio G-Shock+ application do?
Receive notifications of an incoming call.
Receive notifications of our mails entering data connection IMAP / POP and your username and password.
Receive notification with the message "TWITTER" or "FACEBOOK" when we receive notification of these two applications. We will also have to enter username and password in the application.
Receive notification when we have a new Calendar event on our phone.
Control the music player of your phone from our watch.
Find your phone by pressing a button on our clock (if it is connected ) .
Adjust all configurable parameters of our clock from the phone (alarms, alerts , world time ... )
We have to announce bad news as the latest model GBA-400 completely ELIMINATES all notification features. The only remaining features are configuring our watch settings and controlling the phone music player.
The list of functionality that G-Shock+ offers is wide but for those looking to have TOTAL control of your phone on your wrist, is clearly insufficient.
Here is a list of typical questions and answers an advanced user could have looking for a perfect smart watch. Those are the answers using G-Shock+ application:
- Can I connect my Casio watch to any phone model? NO! Casio only supports Samsung S3 , S4 and Note3 models.
- Can I receive notifications in my Casio G-Shock GBA-400 model? NO! Casio removed all notification functions.
- Am I notified when I receive a message from my favorite messaging application: Whatsapp , Line, Viber ? NO!
- Am I notified when I receive an event from my favorite game? NO!
- Can I see the sender of my Facebook notifications? NO, just prints out "FACEBOOK"
- Can I see my phone battery level in my watch screen? NO
- What is the maximum number of actions that I can setup on my phone using my watch buttons? Many actions as buttons have your watch but only for music control.
- Can I use the STB-1000 on my Android phone? NO
As mentioned above, BlueWatcher is the alternative to the official Casio G-Shock+ app but should be taken as the app that fills the holes left by Casio. One of the most important aspects for the BlueWatcher's development team was to provide an application with the minimum functionality to convert these watches in "smart watches" . That's why BlueWatcher includes functionality that already includes the official G-Shock+ app but including all that functionality not offered by Casio. Let's look over the most important aspects of BlueWatcher.
The first most discussed aspect on the Casio G-Shock+ application is the set of supported phones. Casio only supports Samsung S3, S4 and Note 3. BlueWatcher announces that includes no restriction to download and test the application. You can verify that BlueWatcher works with other different models phone models like Sony, HTC, etc. But BlueWatcher assumes that it can't solve the problem totally as they accept there are some phone models that do not run neither. Currently BlueWatcher announces that you can have problems with Android Lollipop (known problem in Android 5.0 with Bluetooth Low Energy devices) or users with Samsung Galaxy Note 4/Sony Xperia Z1 among other models.

Connectivity, this is one of the most traumatic points for BlueWatcher. By extending the range of supported phones, the connection process can become tedious due to the instability of the Casio Bluetooth modules. That's why BlueWatcher announced that users can freely buy and test the application and if that does not work, apply for refund of money if they can not get connected.
Another aspect that we can find too in the official application is the ability to notify a new incoming call in the watch screen showing the contact name.
Without doubt, BlueWatcher tries to overcome the biggest problem with Casio G-Shock+ app: The ability to be notified about all the events that occur in our phone. In BlueWatcher, for example, we can set up an advanced algorithm to notify us when we have a new message from the WhatsApp messaging application. We can receive all messages, receive messages every certain period of time or receive new messages only when we have read the above message for a specific contact.
But BlueWatcher is more than Whatsapp notifications! It provides the option to receive notifications from any application that is installed in your phone. It is as simple as adding a "Custom Notifications" app from all the applications we have installed, select those we want to be notified, personalize the message we receive and mission accomplished. From that moment we can receive notifications from our favorite applications. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Candy Crash Saga... there are no limits to what we receive on our watch.
The owners of a GBA-400 watch are in luck because, as mentioned, Casio decided to completely eliminate any notifications for this model. BlueWatcher includes support for full notifications in the GBA-400 model. The pity is that Casio also removed the vibrator from the watch so for now you can view the contents of the notification.
As the official application, another service that also was considered essential is "phone finder service". BlueWatcher includes this service that once connected the phone to the watch, we can use our watch to make our phone sound. And we will have already found it!
At this point, it is time to see which is the second important feature that differentiates BlueWatcher from G-Shock+: Multiple phone control modes. As we have seen, the official G-Shock+ application supports control the music volume, pause, play and skip tracks. BlueWatcher tries to go much further including a larger set of possible commands to be executed each time the button on our watch is pressed. Currently, the interaction between watch and phone is higher and we can find commands such as displaying the phone battery level in our watch, deleting GBA-400 screen text when we have already read all notifications and controlling the music player. BlueWatcher has in its roadmap include control of the camera from the watch as well as a wide range of functions.
Since the number of commands that can be executed with each of the watch's buttons grows, it is imperative to configure which command will execute each one. BlueWatcher goes further again and allows you to configure multiple phone control modes. This allows you to map multiple configurations for each watch button allowing you to switch between modes from the watch itself. To better understand this operation, consider the following example we tested in a Casio G-Shock GB-X6900B model (with three configurable buttons):
MODE 1: Music
Button A: Toggle play/pause music
Button B: Next song
Button C: Next phone control mode
MODE 2: Volume
Button A: Raise music volume
Button B: Lower music volume
Button C: Next phone control mode
MODE 2: Other
Button A: Show phone battery level as a notification
Button B: Next phone control mode
From a watch with three functional buttons we configured five effective commands. When BlueWatcher include more new commands, the ability of configuring multiple control modes will make more sense.
We would not want to ignore that BlueWatcher , as the official G-Shock+ application, is able to synchronize the watch date/time on each connection. In this way, we will always have synchronized our watch and phone.
But there is one funcion we miss in BlueWatcher, it does not include the ability to configure all functions of the watch from your phone. So to set alarms, alert configuration, control time aligned , etc we have to connect G-Shock+ app or configure it from the watch itself using complex configuration modes offered by the watch.
Before closing, we emphasize the technical support of BlueWatcher since in all cases we have contacted them we have received a reply in less than 24h. They promise to refund you the money in case you can not connect the watch to your phone. Good to know we are not alone when using BlueWatcher for the first time!
In short, this is the application that will allow many users decide to buy a Casio watch with Bluetooth technology because using BlueWatcher they will own a really smart watch reaching a wider ecosystem of users than the ecosystem proposed by Casio and its official G-Shock+ application.
Here we have a summary of the advantages and disadvantages:
Pros
Compatible with a wide range of phone models
Notifications for ALL applications you have installed
Notifications for Casio G-Shock GBA-400 are enabled
Android Support for Casio STB-1000
Advanced commands to control your phone like sending your phone's battery to your wrist
Multiple phone control modes to extend control functions
Excellent customer support. Response within 24 hours with money-back option if inoperative.
Cyrillic characters transliteration
Cons
Difficult pairing process between watch and phone
There are still some phone models that are incompatible. Android 5.0 problems with Bluetooth Low Energy
Simple graphical interface
The ability to configure the watch settings is completely lost

Does it still work with mi-a1
I have downloaded the app and paired with my Gba-400 GMix watch. The app shows Connected but the watch shows Connecting and Bluetooth of the watch turns off after sometimes.
I think the watch doesn't really get connected to my device Mi A1.
Any tips? Thank you.

Clears the pairing of the clock, then opens Bluewatcher. And then turn on the Bluetooth on the clock.

A sort of fork of BlueWatcher or another app written anew?
Ps. Are you having problems using it with latest android revision?

Thanks I found this app and it's fine
Hi, I recently got a Moto 360 as a present. But sadly, I soon came to the realization that you can't run Android Wear without GAPPS installed (I'm running CM10.2). I'm not going to install Google's spyware just so I can use a watch.
Are there other Apps that work with AndroIid Wear Devices? My smartphone does support Bluethooth 4 and BLE. A little bit digging showed me that some dedicated people got some functionality to work on their Iphone without Google Services. Alos when I install the Pebble App it recognzes my phone (but can not connect)
I really just want to get notifications to my watch, control music , set an alarm and maybe get my pulse data on my phone. Are there third party apps that can do that?
The person who ported the Android Wear functionality to Iphone has a Github repository of his Iphone app under shiitakeo/android_wear_for_ios . If there is no option I will have to write my own app and I'm going to orient myself on what he did there.
So you are looking for an app to connect your android phone to the iOS wear connect app on moto360? And not android wear app?
I'm looking for a third party android app that lets me connect my Moto 360 with my Phone aCyanogenmod 10.2 without gapps installed.
Without gapps I can't install the offical Android Wear app. Taking a peak in the IOS world shows me that it' s possible to do that with a device that supports Bluethooth 4.0 and BLE. The Pebbles app also recognizes my watch but does not let me connect it, this tells me that they must use a similiar protocol or maybe even the same. My question is, if someebody already did write such an App, that lets you connect your Android phone with your smart watch (without installing gapps!), or if I have to do this on my own. (I'm a software developer but never did anything with Bluethooth or much in Android.)
I'd also like to find a non-gapps solution for this. Have you found one?
Apple spies for Facebook. You'll sell your integrity no matter what.
Hi i just got my DM98 smartwatch and had a few questions for anybody that has the answers.
1.) I got the watch synced to my phone and i wanted to be able to send and receive text messages, make and receive phone calls, and use the internet.
Question: is there an app or trick to make this possible or am i just S.O.L. ?
2.) I have read that it is possible to create your own clock faces.
Question: Is there a guide that details how to do this?
3.) Question; if i want to do anything do i need to root?
These are all the questions i have at the moment. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

The trick is simple - go to the play market and look for notification software with a set of features you want.

The guide is simple - you should write your program. It's the most flexible way. Second option - you can go to the market and look for face designer or similar application. It' limited, of course, but you can try it. Third option - get watch face that you like and go into it's folder. There you'll find some pictures and may be fonts. Now you can delete the pictures and replace them with your own (with same name, of course), then restart your watch face application and you'll see your pictures instead of removed. It's most limited customization, but it's simplest.
Here is one watch face application.

It shouldn't be a headset. It should be something like phone or smartphone with the ability to transfer any data. To connect to DM98 first turn bluetooth on on both devices (DM98 and your phone), next make one of the devices available to connection requests, then the device will advertise itself and second device should see it. When it's seen just touch it and select "pair". Only after this you can start your notification software and use it's communication features.
In short - you should pair devices BEFORE any third party application can do something for you. The pairing is performed using Android's bluetooth settings, no third parties should be involved.

You are talking about communication software. Chinese smart watches usually have just a subset of such functionality. It means you won't get everything pushed. But you can try to look for such software at the market. Search for key words like "notification" "smart watch" and so on.

Hi, I have a question, how we do for have the sms on the watch via bluetooth?
Reset
Have you ever tried resetting the smartwatch there's like a small pin hole in the very back of it take something to stick in it the watch will shut off and you just restart the watch back up and that should have fixed the issue
No 1, you can try these aps to enhance your dm98
1. Watch android phone
2. Android control panel
3. Heads up notifications
4. Rotation control
[SOLVED] Still getting used to the tiny keyboard, I had a typo.
I just got the Dev C14 (Bluetooth reports it's actually the DM98) and when I try to log into the Playstore with my existing account, I get past the email and password, but then it says to "Type in the text you see here" with a prompt but I don't see the text. Can anyone help please?
Cannot connect DM98 to Galaxy S8 Active
Hello fellow smartwatch owners. I have the DM98 like the size memory WiFI but cannot get it to connect to my Samsung Galaxy S8 Active. The phone shows the watch and vis a versa, they both are paired, but when they connect the connection is lost right away. Please help if you can

For downloading software use wifi. Start with Google play, etc. Best for installing software is to do it from your computer: just log in to Google Play windows.

Personally I use the much more stable Droid Phone and Droid Watch, on Google Play.
Hello,
I am a junior developer and I would like to develop a simple app for a smartwatch. The basic functionality of the application is that when you press and hold the power button, it sends to the server information about BLE beacons, WIFI access points, GPS and mobile networks, as well as information about heart rate, steps made, battery level, etc. The application sends information to the server via WIFI or via the GSM network.
Basic application requirements:
1. By long pressing the power button, the application sends the above mentioned information to the server. This means that it is necessary to reprogram the default behavior of the power button, which is usually a turn-off and reset of the smartwatch
2. A long press on the power button should be detected even when the application is running in the background
3. Usage of the application and usage of the smartwatch must be possible without the need for a smartphone (no paired smartphone needed)
Bonus features:
1. The app is always in the foreground and cannot fall into the background
2. The app is the only application installed on the smartwatch besides the appstore, so that the user can download the application
What I've tried so far:
I tried to implement the application on Samsung Galaxy Watch3 (Tizen OS) and Huawei Watch 3 (Harmony OS 2.0).
Problem:
I have found out that the implementation of long press on the power button detection is either not possible, or it stops working after the application falls into the background.
Question:
Which smartwatch should I acquire so I can implement the requirements mentioned above?
thanks
