I have an LGE Nexus 4 and I just got the 4.4 update a few days ago. I love the update so far, but one thing that really irritates me is:
Battery life! Ever since updating to 4.4, Exchange services is using up more battery than my screen! Other power hungry apps since the update are: Mediaserver, and Android System. (I'm running Nova Launche Prime, that's probably responsible for the android system usage.
I used to come home from school at 5PM with around 35-40% Battery. It's currently 12:45PM and i'm already at 65% :S. Anybody with tops and tricks to help me conserve battery life please do share with my self and the community!

I don't think you've provided enough information for us to really tell you. Try getting BetterBatteryStats and then check for yourself what's going on. Sven has fixed it to work on 4.4.
I've experienced the battery to be affected negatively on 4.4 as-well.
For now i turned off the voice command [ok google] which seem to help a bit but still not as good as 4.3.
ITs location services... turn it off and see how much better battery life you get or use device only then check your google services useage
Exchange Push is the issue
I have found that changing my Exchange settings from "Push" to check every X minutes has greatly improved my battery life. It seems to be much more inline with what I was used to with 4.3.
Hope this helps,

Well... I flashed 4.4.2 the other day and I saw my battery plummeting like mad... so naturally the first place I came to was XDA, and saw that a lot of people were having a big problem with battery life.
So I didn't do any battery pulls or anything like that on my N7100, but when the battery went from 85% down to 12% what I did was to turn on everything that I could in order to drain the battery... turned on Data, WiFi, turned off the battery saver etc. etc.
Down at about 6%, I got that alarm with the notification to plug in the charger but I just let it go.
After a while, the phone wouldn't turn on at all... nothing. Nada.
So I plugged in the charger and let it go.
I checked it in about 1.5 hours and it said 100% but the red charging LED was still on so I let it charge for about another half hour and finally the LED turned green.
I turned on the phone and held the power button until the screen flashed three times (About 15 seconds), and let it boot up.
I had 100% charge last nite @ 11:39, and right now on standby (12:45 the next day) I still have 95% on the battery.
Strangely enough, I didn't get one call on this phone all day... but when I don't answer my Note 2, people just try the other number on my iPhone 5s.
Granted, I never leave the WiFi on or data... but I have the stock ROM with all the crapware that it has... but I flashed that French version of KitKat off of that site that I won't mention (But it's that one that if you're not a paying member, it takes you half a day to download anything).
Pretty happy with KitKat stock rom so far, but that first few hours when when I saw my battery sucked dry before my eyes was pretty disconcerting.
Hi everyone, i have problem with my note 4, battery drops from 11 % to 3% very fast and charges after 85% very slow.. this problems started 2 days ago when i flashed dn5 custom rom i thought it was rom problem and flashed sixperience rom but still i have same issue also i tried battery calibration but again.... what can i do???? and my screen on time is only 3 hour. please help me, thanks.
Have you checked what's eating away at your battery? Settings => Battery (Here you should be able to see if anything is causing a drain).
If the settings screen doesn't seem to show anything, you could try BetterBatteryStats (This app will be able to tell you everything that's going on regarding running processes, wakelocks,... You should give it a day or so from a fully charged battery.)
And if even BBS doesn't show anything, I'd flash the stock firmware again (And check if it isn't the battery).

Well, in all fairness, mine is running CM 12.1, and SOT is a bit under 4hrs. Which isn't fantastic either. Quickcharge does slow down a bit after a certain percentage. You could try a new battery, but might be a waste of money.
I'm afraid I can't help you any further, maybe someone else can.

did u change ur battey? im going to buy anker battery as i know they have good ones
I am facing exactly the same problem .. I don't think buying a new battery will solve this problem.
My mobile is charging by AC very very slow and sometimes it stuck at certain percentage for hours and I tried many things but I am still facing this problem... While recharging if I removed the battery and put it again, the phone shows me that it is 100% while it was not 100% at all.
I wish someone can help us about this problem or if any of u guys tried a new battery and the problem has been solved, so please feed us back in here
Any updates!?

well after 3 4 days (i mean after flashing sixperience rom) everything is ok. discharge to 0% then wait and full charge + calibrate battery may fix issue. but still dont like screen on time. only up to 3.5 4 hours
That sounds weard...
I mean the good thing is we could change the battery.
I have a feeling this is not battery issue. it's exynos + apps running on the background. Try to root + disable unnecessary apps (maybe Android 4.4 Would give you higher SOT). I had Note 3 previously and SOT was at the level of around 6 hrs (snap processor) - now on exynos it's around 4 hrs on stock firmware (5.1.1).
Hi! It is a first for me to post a thread here at XDA. I really need your help regarding this battery issue on my S7 Edge Exynos (Factory-Unlocked). The first time I got this device I was very impressed the camera, screen and most specially the battery life - hands down for this device. But I had an issue on my first device and the Samsung Service was able to replace it - the first device got a stuck pixel and then the replacement unit got another issue, another pixel problem. So, Samsung Service did is to replace the screen, actually they replace most of it to make it short they only transfer the internals from another new phone - the motherboard, camera, and battery even the back panel is new. Then after I got the unit and updated the OS to Marshmallow 6.0.1. April 2, 2016 security patch level I notice that it drains battery faster that the first time I got the device. I guess a 8-10% per hour when using it on LTE, locations off, sync off, auto-brightness on. Then what I did is visit Samsung Sevice to let them check the device, they hooked it up on their pc and run a diagnostic test and no battery problem found. I was wondering if my battery usage is normal. I was not a techy guy but I just compared it before it got fixed from 100% to 99% it drains I guess for 2-3 minutes and a screen time is 3-4 hours max and 15 hours on battery. Really appreciate your help! Thank you! By the way the apps I regularly use are facebook, instagram, twitter, social messaging apps and most of the time web browsing on chrome.
Paragraphing? Search? Did you try? Follow the links, read...
Yes been trying to search regarding this issue and found some but does not directly answer the issue on my device. Anyway thanks.
Facebook is a well known battery drainer, maybe install GSam from the play store and monitor what is draining the battery the most.
Okay will take note on that. Thanks alot!
I had really crappy battery lifetime and it drained juice like hell! I made sure wifi and bluetooth was off when sleeping(screen off). Tried every guide ive found but newer got to the root of the draining problem.
I did an factory reset and the problem was GONE. Now I have 1,8%/hour drain with normal usage included bluetooth headset connected, and 50% brightness with batterysaving enabled. kept 100% after unplugging from fastcharging for 1hour without usage.
If u struggle, try a factory reset! its simple, and if u have backup it doesnt take long to recover!

Look at your firmware version. If it ends in APD1 or higher, then battery drain is a known issue that can only be fixed by downgrading to APC8 or lower. In battery stats, if Android System has double digit (12%+) drain then you have APD1 or higher and the known battery drain issue.
Okay thank you! really appreciate your advices.
I have A G935FD and when I first bought it. it was a bit laggy but much less than now. The battery lasted like 6h sot (8 months ago, fast charged it only once and it mostly started happening after that, also kept it next to a fan while doing that it's next to a fan while charging all the time since I already have one on my desk anyway).
When I'm outside even when I'm not doing anything special (Just talking to a friend on discord, Checking Instagram, reading an article on Google chrome) it gets very very very hot! it happens more in my grand mother's house for some reason. even though it still has full antenna there!
The battery life now is like 3.5H 3H 4H!
I'm currently downloading the Indonesia Firmware! maybe re flashing it with ODIN will help. mine was actually another but I guess since it was released later it's a bit better?!
can anyone help me?! any suggestions c:
Display drained 16%
Android System drained 12%
Idle is 9%
cell standby is 7%
android os is 7%
chrome 5%
Googleplay services 3%
instagram 3%
AnyConnect 3%
Disocr and wifi 1%
and that's most of them

Maybe I should try a custom rom? I rather use stock android but whatever you suggest! I rather only do it if necessary since it still has warranty and stuff!
First go into recovery mode , do a wipe cache and factory reset , if that doesnt solve the issue , flash the original stock firmware through odin , i would not recommend flashing a custom rom as your phone is under warranty. If after flashing , problems still persist , then for the lagness and heating i can't say , it may be a hardware problem , but for the battery you can do a calibration , turn off fast charging , and never use it , first your battery should be at 3% or 4% , enter this code in dailer *#0228# , when you enter this you will see a info page but dont touch or tap anything especially that quickstart option ... dont try to touch that. just press back button and exit the menu, now drain your battery till phone doesnt turn on , then go in download mode , and let the phone be in download mode till it is dead again , now the battery is completely drained , now put the phone on charge and dont touch it until it is 100% and green light shows, it should improve battery , but if that doesnt improve anything and lagness/heat is still there , then you should go to samsung service centre and claim warranty if anything is faulty, btw my current SOT time is 6 to 7 hours , i dont experience heatness issue in normal use , and there is not that much of lagness that would annoy me. Good luck to you.

Draining my battery to 0 sounds scary since i know li-ion batteries but I guess I'll give it a try. I don't think the warranty will be useful but I'll try anyway c: Thanks a lot! <3
I'll update this further in case anyone's wondering but I flashed the newest firmware with odin and didn't use the Home_csc. But I want to say already everything feels smoother. But battery will take a bit to judge. It's still at 80% but I removed it from my fake wireless charger and moved it to wired (not fast though) to speed up things and let it cool down slightly (I should add a manual fan to it ) and i'll update here c:
Thanks for yourhelp!
Always do a factory reset and wipe cache after flashing a new firmware , also dont use fake chargers as they may also cause these heating ptoblems , well i also suffer heating issue when using tethering while charging , have you tried using any temp monitoring software to know how hot it gets ?

Wow bro your phone is even cool than mine
Anyways do a battery calibration as i posted earlier , doing this one time in a month won't harm your battery lifespan
Without calibration it actually got 5-5:30 battery life to absolute 0%. recalibration actually made it a bit worse but I guess I'm ok with that! it's not as bad as 3-4h now and I can use it without having to recharge it in middle of the day.
and also life advice:
if you disable fast charging it gets MUUUCH cooler my case (fake samsung charger that supports it, wireless ofc) and put a small 80mm pc fan next to it and I bet you it won't go higher than 27 degrees on any condition
disable fast charging
Hey,
yes i know: another battery thread. But tbh i havn't seen a thread with a similar problem description so far. Im using a Note 3 SM-9005
After my Note3 got super slow with normal samsung rom, i decided to flash it and install LineageOS 14.X. It works amazing! Feelt like a super new phone to me. Just some problems with rotation but i could life with that. One year later my battery started to drain faster. But a while after that i could fully charge my phone, watch some YT videos (like 20min overall) and then the phone just goes off. Its super hot near camera (processor i guess?) after turning it on again it was at 1%. 1 Month ago i tried to finaly fix it by flashing to LineageOS 15.X (Android 8.1) but the problem is still the same. And now its not just videos, if the phone screen is on for more then 20min it will turn off (even if it says 50%)
But not enough.
- After shutting down automaticly, it start itself again and shutdown again and so on. Until i plugin a charger then it stops doing it (or if i remove the battery).
- If im just listining to music it works fine (no screen on time), but while listining music in freezes for 1 up to 3 seccends (on avg every 10s one "freeze")
- It can happen after 5min of usage after charging it to 100% or i can listin to music for over 70min, than can have it in my pocket for 9 hrs, can hear music again for 70min and it still works (all of that with less to none SOT)
I havnt tried so much tbh, cuz i always thought it is a battery problem. But the new battery I got 2 days ago still has the exact same problem. I've read something about save mode and I booted it in save mode and the phone didnt get hot (not even warm!) with 20min SOT browsing (had no time to test it more). But the only apps that I have installed are Spotify, Firefox, WhatsApp and the Blizzard Auth.
Now i tested using a calibrate battery app (my phone isnt rooted but the app said it worked) and now im charging it up to 100% again to test it. But I dont think it worked.
Anyone here with more ideas I could try?
One full wipe and install stock rom .
Charge battery and test over two weeks .
Calibration app NO thats fake it does not and cannot calibrate a battery ( see multiple posts )
Its just the usual battery question and a search answers your question .
How long have you been using that battery? Get a new battery and your problem is solved.
I had similar problems with battery charging to 100% and suddenly going down to 50% and suddenly switching off. Changed battery and all was well again.

I just bought a new battery. TBH it defenetly cant be a good one for that cheap price. But I just flashed back to Stock Rom. With the old battery same problem, but with the new one it works good so far. nearly all bugs that came up the last few month are gone. While setting it up, the phone got really hot (it had to work pritty hard i guess to update everything). This is why JJEgan mentioned to use it for atleast a week i guess.
But an important question: is it possible to flash back to a new version again after like a week? Or am i now forced to use this stone age version of Android. (I guess all samsung apps can be removed if i decied to root the phone)
