Flash Firmware on BL v5 - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

I have a G950U1 and contemplating flashing ATT firmware so I can get VoLTE, WiFi Calling, etc. but I haven't seen any threads for BL v5. So do the current methods work with v5 or am I out of luck? If there is a known good method available can you please provide some guidance. Thanks in advance.

I'm just looking for the user data file for att. That way I can keep it on the unlocked firmware but have volte working. Wi-Fi calling would be nice though.

I would love to be able to do that. That way we wouldn't get all the ATT bloat. Where can one file the user data file? Do you have to extract the firmware?

Ya, it has to be a full firmware extract.

I've had Nexus devices that last few years so I'm new to this Samsung, Odin, Firmware Flash, CSC thing.
Is the userdata file that hard to get? I mean if you have the firmware downloaded you can't just extract it to get the files needed?

I'm not sure, I was on another thread and that's what they told me

So I think i got it. I downloaded the G950U1OYM5CRF5 (ATT) from updato a couple of weeks ago. I extracted that and now i have the AP, BL, CP, CSC_OYM, and HOME_CSC_OYM files. I then extracted the AP file and now i have the userdata.img.ext4.lz4 file. it' about 1GB in size. Is that it? If you need it i can uploaded it somewhere so you can download it.

My Sprint phone was rooted and then one day got stuck in a boot loop, but I hate the Sprint bloatware so I downloaded the T-Mobile stock rom and odined it. I left out the home_csc file because I didn't know where to put it and it seems to be working just great.

Quick question. I have a galaxy s7 sm-g930t1 which is the galaxy s7 with metro-pcs. Will this work on this model. It has snapdragon which has a locked bootloader that makes sure its signed. I would assume it would work as long as I also flash the bootloader with this version but I want to be sure.
I ended up just giving it a try and it worked. Thank you!
I'm getting the "sha256 is invalid" error when trying to flash this - I'm using the AT&T Nougat version and want to get my wifi-calling back. Any reason why this may be happening?

Yeah it does. The only file I didn't use in Odin was the CSC. I then just went Settings/Mobile Networks/Access Point Names and added my own MetroPCS access point and deleted the rest. Here is my settings and it works great.

I am receiving an error while i flash it. The error message was along the lines of invalid ext4 and incorrect volume size.

HOME CSC keeps your data, CSC wipes the device, do note that you can only use the HOME CSC if you are are coming from a T-Mobile based firmware

Changing carrier ROMs US variant S7 edge

Have a question here, we get a lot of US imported phones here in Pakistan, mostly AT&T and Verizon S7 edge phones.
They've got carrier bloat and whatnot, I remember reading people flashing Verizon ROMs to get that to work properly on their AT&T phone and flashing AT&T on a T-Mobile phone to get that to work properly, so if one flashes a G935U firmware on a G935V, is it expected to work fine and act as an ordinary Snapdragon 820 S7 edge with no carrier bloat or anything?
All replies will be appreciated.
Thanks

I have, but there have been reports of it not working for some people as well, so I wanted to know if it's a legit method or if it's trial and error and it works for some and it doesn't work for others, because if it does work officially, then it'd solve a huge headache on choosing US variant phones here and we can all relax since the 935U firmware can be flashed on carrier branded phones.
Now, I need to get my hands on an American S7 edge to test this out myself.
Off course without testing nothing can be confirmed ... But most people r too faint hearted to try it

All of them. AP includes the system, recovery and cache, CP includes modem, BL includes bootloader, and CSC includes sales code.
The ROMs for S7 usually come with CSC and HOME_CSC, the latter will not wipe your device and keep the Verizon CSC which may cause issues and require you to factory reset your phone, the normal CSC files wipes the data and switches your CSC to the new one you're trying to flash.
Choose whichever one you want but I'd suggest the normal CSC just to be safe.

Yes, it's already released.
I am using Frija (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/tool-frija-samsung-firmware-downloader-checker.3910594/) to check for and download stock Samsung firmware files.
Then flash with Odin using Home_CSC file as CSC.
