Excessive Battery Drain in ROM not in TWRP - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I, like many other A2017U users, have experienced MASSIVE battery drain the last 6-8 months, seems to be an issue with N. That has been manageable as I don't do much away from charges/battery packs. Annoying, but manageable.
The last 3 weeks or so though, my experienced has changed drastically. I have tried this on a few different O roms, different bootstacks, multiple different dates of roms, etc.
If I restart the phone when the charging cable is in the phone, battery percentage stays consistent after boot. As in, if I reboot with charging 70% battery, it will boot with 70% battery.
If I restart the phone when not charging, the phone boots at anywhere from 2%-5% battery. As in, if I reboot with 70% battery, it will boot with 2%
When looking at this via TWRP, even though Android is displaying 2-5%, and autoshutdown due to low battery, TWRP displays battery anywhere from 60%-80%.
Now here's the kicker...If I am not charging, reboot my phone (so it says 2% battery), boot into TWRP, then reboot system from TWRP, battery stays back at that 70%ish.
I've had the phone for like 19 months, so battery degradation most likely is present, but what could be causing this? Software, Hardware, or a combo?

You dont restart your phone while charging dude, you can maybe sometimes but not always like you mention.Stop charging when u reboot or are flashing. And if you did a full clean flash, you want to charge when you got it rebooted for second time! ( flash, boot system.setup google etc, setup magisk, reboot system, charge) i also recommend to put the charger on the phone when its awake (with screen on,when charger is plugged in u can turn off screen). Its because bad OS or software,or host using it wrong

[Q] N7 battery percentage not correct.

Cheers,
I've been having this weird problems with my N7 32GB recently, it started to happen about 3 weeks ago, then it stops and starts again this week.
It seems that the battery percentage is not being reported correctly, I remember the first time it happened is that I still have > 50% battery, then
the device shutdown and booted and then the screen flickered and shutdown and booted again it went on in this cycle for about 2mins and every it
went into this cycle the screen flickers which is kinda alarming and asked that it be connected to a charger. This week it happened again, I have
85% battery charge, and then device went into the same shutdown - boot, cycle and asks to be connected to a charger. And every time this happens
when I first boot the device the battery percentage shown is way less than that of the reported charge just before it shutsdown. And today it happened
again, the device has about 70% charge and it just shutdown, but this time without the shutdown-boot cycle, so knowing of the issue, I attached it
to my usb to charge and booted it, and it shows that it only has 11% charge.
Any idea on why is this? and how to avoid this issue? I have already installed Battery Widget Reborn and DS Battery Saver.
BTW, Im on stock non-rooted 4.2.1
Thanks.

{HELP!} Battery charge state issues!

These issues started up when I was on slimbean ROM and franco kernel r102, but I don't think its a software issue. My phone would randomly reboot at around 70% battery and sometimes around 20-40%, and when it would restart it would show 5-10% battery and sometimes wouldn't start because the battery was completely dead. I recalibrated the battery by removing the battery bin file after a full charge and did all the necessary steps to do it over and over again. When that didn't work I did a full wipe and flashed stock factory image. I even recalibrated battery again, and now the phone shut off over night (5 hours in according to the battery stats), and when i turned the phone on again it showed 10%. I'm scared my charger sometime down the line messed with the micro usb port and shorted my battery or something.....whats even freaking weirder is that I would have auto rotation screen issues where when I would plug my phone to charge, auto rotate wouldn't work even if i enabled it, then would start working again randomly....any help would be great before i drop another 300 on a new nexus.

New Battery - weird charging

Hey all,
so after 2 years using my N4 I bought a new battery since I exchanged my display and sort of damaged the original battery (it was bended, smelled strange (could also be the glue) and I had the feeling it performed worse).
In the beginning I was satisfied but now after some time, I have some weired charging effects:
Using the stock rom (Android 5.0.1), I charge the battery to 100%. If I reboot the phone, the battery percentage dropped back to something between 50%-80%. It will the charge back to 100% within a quite short time. If I reboot again, the battery percentage dropps down again, but not that much. This can be repeated several times... Further, if I boot into recovery (TWRP) after reachin 100%, it also shows something between 50%-70%. After changing the battery and flashing Lolipop, I used an app to "calibrate the battery" - don't know if this helped smth or messed up everything.
Furthermore I noticed sometimes, that battery percentage drops down instantly about 20-30% within a sec while using the phone normally.
Is it just a bad replacement battery? Or is it a issue due to Lolipop (can't say if this will happen with KitKat since I changed the battery using the developer preview and stock Lolipop only)?
Right now, I'm trying to charge the battery while beeing in TWRP and see what happens then if I boot the phone.
Edit: Within minutes, battery was up to 100% in TWRP too. I rebooted TWRP and it's now back down to 58%... So it seems that Lolipop is not the reason.

Is my battery b*ggered?

So for the past few weeks my battery has been draining faster than the speed of light. It will get to anywhere between 30 - 70% (usually about 56%) and it will just turn off. Like straight to dead, no powering down.
When I try to turn it on again I get a white screen with a picture of an empty battery.
If I plug it is, I get the charging screen showing a battery percentage the same as it was when it crashed.
I've done a factory reset, wiped the cache, tried it with no third-party apps, all sorts. But it's still the same. I'm having to charge it 4 or 5 times a day and it's only getting about 30 mins of usage before it dies.
It tends to happen the most with the camera or Snapchat but I don't think it's related to those as it will also do it in other apps and even the lockscreen.
Is it time to call it quits and send it to the phone shop in the sky?!
I had this weird problem with my battery too! MXPE on stock nougat , as soon as I charged my phone to 100% and plug out it used to drop below 80 in 2 minutes ! and then when the percentage hit ~20% It used to turn off showing that white screen you mentioned, however when I plugged the phone in it would start charging at ~15% ! so I tried recalibrating my battery and it is surprisingly effective !
here is the method:
1) drain your phone battery until it shuts down.
2)power it on again and you will see that white battery low picture. plug the charger for 3 or more seconds and out, it will boot up again but as soon as the Rom boots up the phone will die again . do it multiple times.
3)charge the phone while it is off until 100%. turn it on and drain the battery as fast as possible (max brightness, volume, streaming videos on cellular data and running benchmarks will do ) till the phone dies again.
4) repeat (2)
5) charge the phone up to 100% while it is off ! and there you go your battery is recalibrated and good to go!
Obviously, this will shorten the batteries lifespan but since I believe you have it for a long time It won't be an important matter!
Thank you. I think I'm going to bite the bullet and treat myself to the new OnePlus 5T when it goes on sale tomorrow but I will try your advice as this will be a good backup phone to keep for emergencies as it's not worth much to sell on or trade in.
Try removing the back with a heatgun and unplugg and plug de battery.
I'm having the exact same issue and tried the same solutions, no help. It's dying now after a couple minutes. I'm carrying around a battery pack.
Seems to me my troubles started after updating to Nougat. You?

Note 3 bizzare battery drain

Hi,
I'm new here so.. hello everyone Tnx for having me. I've read the other Note 3 battery drain issues but they are not the same as mine. Here's the thing: Note 3 drains about 1-2% per minute of battery if I do anything on it like browse the net or godforbid play ingress (then it's even worse at about 3-4% per minute). Here's the kicker: it only happens on the original battery. When I use noname cheap battery replacement it uses about 0.15-0.25% a minute (or 4-7 minutes per 1%). I've swapped the original battery at the store so this is the second one and the same problem persists. I used my own multimeter to confirm the battery voltage and it's the same one as detected by note 3. The problem persists on aryamod, C9 and phorensis note7 roms. Other things I've noted is that if i reboot the phone at 100% (immediately after unplugging) it will come back at 91-92%. If the battery is drained to 0% on purpose it will stay at 1% for about 45 minutes or so, and then if it's taken out of the phone while turned off and put back immediately on boot it will show at 20%-40% charge. Basically, what are the odds that 2 batteries at the store are both faulty? Any advice? Any suggestions?
PS
The problem persists even if nothing is running, fresh boot with zero apps on, just opera mini and 4G xor wifi.
Test with full wipe and stock rom.
Battery drop after charging is not unknown.

I can do that, but I'm also interested as to why it happens on original brand name Samsung battery and not on noname knockoff? Also, 8-10% charge drop and 20-40% charge rise is highly abnormal.
It could have something to do with the custom ROMs or kernels included with the ROMs.
I also suggest a full wipe of the cache, system, and data before going back an unrooted stock ROM.
Hey OP, both original batteries i had (the one i bought the phone with and the one i bought last year from Samsung) act kinda the same as you describe.
Basically it drains 1% every two minutes or so if i keep using the phone. If i let the phone idle for 20 minutes and then start using the phone again at, say 80%, it will stay on 80% for 10 minutes and then start dropping fast again. After reaching 1% it will also give me some 20 - 30 minutes of screen time.
I noticed that if i unplug the phone the moment it say 100% - unplug, the battery will drop fast to 95% (15 minutes of idle). However, if i leave the phone plugged in for an additional hor after full charge, it will discharge normally in idle, 1% every hour. I calibrated the battery numerous times by fully discharging it and charging it with the phone off but no chabge in its behaviour.
My sister's no name battery, of course, act normally under identical load, 1% every 5 minutes of screen, no problems at full charge, or 1%.
