Hello, as we all know, Android Pie is available for our device via Project Treble. I was wondering if anyone is using it yet and if they would recommend it as a daily driver? What is the performance/battery compared to Oreo? Cheers

Anyone can help me to confirm that op5 oreo beta is based on android 8.0?
Because chinese websites say that op5 oreo beta is based on android 7.1
You can use adb to check:
adb shell strings /dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/modem | sed -n 's/.*"apps": "\([^"]*\)".*/\1/p'//
You can google search 一加手机5 8.0 7.1 底层 if you understand chinese.

oxygen os 5.0 is Android Oreo (Android 8.0)
Why would Oreo be based on Nougat?

Any dev can help me to confirm it?
The settings menu is based on 7.1 for some reason.
I don't understand why OnePlus didn't move completely to the 8.0 source
Well, these were my initial thoughts - why the f, OnePlus 5 wants to retain Nougat look & feel. Perhaps, they don't want end users to get confused with new UI and still have new platform.
But I confirm they are using Oreo base - you can check presence of new "manifest.xml" under vendor partition - which is new way forward starting with oreo to define HALs. Also, the kernel source tag 6.x is for Oreo.. everything suggests its based on Oreo but OP team wants to retain Nougat feel (quite stupid in my opinion.)
Also, devices don't start fresh when new android version drops. Instead dev team will "bring up" existing device tree to make it compatible with new blobs and new source API/requirements. Perhaps, some left over from old base we are seeing in the screenshot shared.
Cheers.

The OOS Betas do have the new Oreo UI. It does not have a Nougat look or feel. But it's possible some other mod that OOS uses requires that code. Maybe they need it to keep their spyware working properly.

Maybe. But in this case, if they did so, then I would say bye to OOS and hello to Paranoid.

I ran Oreo on two different Google devices--the Nexus 6P and Pixel XL. OOS is definitely using the Oreo UI. I think One Plus is taking shortcuts to update to Oreo which is pretty typical for the company. Android apps are generally made to be compatible with older Android builds so the fact that OnePlus is using some Nougat HALs and APIs in their version of Oreo isn't something most users would ever even notice. But this isn't new for One Plus. The reason the ported Pixel Camera app works perfectly on many phones but not the OP5 is that One Plus used an outdated camera API in their version of Nougat.

Is it possible for someone to take the oreo build from the Axon 7 and tweak it for the mini or is that wishful thinking

I would suggest patience. Custom ROM development was just started on this phone a few months ago. The main dev working on it, tdm, is trying to get an official LineageOS 14.1 build (Nougat) done. It's not impossible, but I doubt it's easy because although their names are similar, they're two distinctly different devices. It'll be much easier if ZTE goes crazy and does an Oreo update for the Mini.
I wasn't expecting or demanding a working rom. I understand these things take time. I was just curious as if it may be a simple process considering the differences between devices. I have been very involved in the development forums and have been testing and reporting the builds as they are released. I am content with the current releases of custom roms.

Ah, the limitations of typed words. I didn't intend to imply you were being demanding. I'm not a developer, but I doubt we'll see Oreo on the Mini unless ZTE has an official release. I'm currently on Lineage 14.1 on the Mini and every build keeps getting better (with a few bumps along the way of course). I'll love it if I'm wrong about this of course
Sent from my Axon 7 Mini using XDA Labs
Tdm has said a while back that he may begin work on Oreo once LineageOS 15.1 nightlies begin rolling out or when the maintainer for the HTC One A9 builds Oreo for it.

I was in a chat yesterday with ZTE USA support, they mentioned that Oreo is in the works for the Axon 7 Mini.

Nah, you won't see me going back to ZTE's stock ROM anytime soon ?
Hi guys,
I have the fire 7 HDX 3rd gen. Great tablet but think it could easily run android Pie. I have built a few roms for my phones an am still learning how to build.
My question is before i expend a lot of wasted time trying to port Pie to the HDX is it even a possibility ? Obviously the device drivers and kernel will need to be updated.
I have a few ideas on the kernel perhaps use an updated kernel from a current Pie port from a device running Pie.
The drivers am not sure if they could be coaxed into running under Pie or if I'd need to also find updated drivers again from a Pie ported device.
Am I wasting my time even considering trying this ?
Any advice or feedback on this would be much appreciated so thanks in advance.

The resource most familiar with porting custom ROMs for HDX devices is still struggling with Oreo. Undocumented kernel and specialized device drivers are the biggest challenges. Me thinks you would have your hands full.

Thanks for your reply and giving me an honest assessment on this much appreciated. I had an idea it would not be an easy task or else someone maybe would have done it by now.
It is a shame this is unlikely to happen since I believe the hardware is more than capable of running pie. Hell many devices with lesser hardware are running pie so the HDX should have no problems doing so.
Ohh well I will just enjoy using my HDX as is.
Thanks again RemusW.
ps. sorry for the multiple postings.
Hello, I searched for ROMs running Android 8.1 and lower but couldn't find any. I want WPS connect feature but as Google has removed it in Pie. Will there be any Android 9- ROM?

You couldn't find any, because the RN7 came with Android 9.
Every ROM for the RN7 is based on 9.0 so I don't know why you're asking that question

Yes I know RN 7 was released with Android 9 but I'm asking is there any way to downgrade to lower Android versions.
No, there are no -9 Roms for Lavender.
And i don't think that we will ever get one, as developers focus on Q right now.
Maybe you should try a slightly older phone, like Mi 8 lite, which came with Oreo.

Yes - if you built those lower Android version ROMs yourself. I assume that you will not attempt to do this (because neither will anyone else). So, as long as you want to use lavender, you are stuck.
Hi guys,
Totally out of the android world since years, however currently using Moto E4 and need to install a good Custom ROM to have Android 9 installed on this. Can anyone please check the screenshot and let me know if that's possible? If so, what process should I follow and which ROM should I go for?
Thanks in advance!
Not possible ATM. There is no pie roms to flash, your best bet is lineage os 14.1if you want up-to-date security patches.
Thanks for the response. I have heard that custom ROM can't be installed on Moto E4 Verizon. Is that true? I heard that it's bootloader cant be unlocked so how would I install the ROM? I'd highly appreciate if you could help me here.
Actually I use Slack and they have deprecated their app and it requires Android 8 or above. So, I'm stuck for now lol
Thanks!
