Due to my job I record most calls. Today I find out that with Pie, ALL recorders do NOT work. I understand that there is a root fix for this.
Care to share?
Thanks!

I've done that and tried, but my call recorder never asks me to elevate privileges. I can only record my side of the conversation, so basically the input from my mic.
Have you had success getting both sides of the call to work?
ACR works fine on my rooted PH-1 running Pie

I think that is a problem with 4.2.2 rom.

Which Skype version? 3.2 or the latest 4.0 abomination? If it's the latter I wouldn't blame a ROM lightly - the latest Skype is a complete fiasco quality-wise.
Yeah the new skype is really bad. If I receive a call, then the sound only goes through the ear piece but if I initiate the call then the sound routes through the loud speaker.

Yeah, this is completely Skype's fault. To work around the issue, make a voice call in Skype first, hit the speakerphone button, and then hit the video button :good:

Hello everybody
I own a Moto x play. Everything is fine except for the microphone. It does not pick up or transfers my voice very faintly to the other side. Most of the time ive to shout to get the message theough. Please note that the microphone records fine. I've tried it even after holding it at varied lenghts from the sound source to see if it works, no issues at all.
It has the problem only during calls.
Pls suggest a solution for the same.
I use a cruzerlite back cover and have no screen guards on.
does the issue happens too when you remove the back cover?

Yes it does persist even after removing the cover.
But recording is fine.
Guys here's another update.
I've tried the online mic test too....
The microphone works wonderfully.
But during calls its ****ty. It'd sound as if someone turned down the volume.
Could it be the noise reduction function of the phone? :crying:

Yes stock rom and not rooted.
you can edit build.prop to disable noise cancellation, but you need to be rooted for that.

I've rooted the phone and tried editing build prop no changes on the mic issue.
Is there any other way?

Then its a hardware issue
How do I activate the feature where I get sent an audio message through any app and I raise my phone to my ear and audio comes through front speaker instead of regular speaker? I have that feature on where I can supposedly raise the phone to my ear when viewing a contact which automatically calls them (which doesn't work for me somehow as nothing happens).

Isn't it possible in stock though? I met someone with the same phone which was also stock and she was using that feature and I know for sure she didn't root nor mod her phone.

Has anyone who has upgraded to 9.0 tried call recording?
My understanding is Google has changed the operating system and basically stopped 3rd party apps from recording calls without root.
My job requires I record call so I am keen to know the Mi A1 situation before upgrading.
It has been said that some manufacturers could undo the changes made by Google and allow call recording but that it was quite unlikely as the laws vary so much from country to country, this coupled with the fact our device is Android One make this even more unlikely as we should receive "stock" android.
Would be grateful to hear anyones experience.
I updated yesterday to Pie. I have ACR Pro and in automatic mode it does't record the other side's voice :/
Actually if you are in a quiet environnement can you hear the other side but very faintly.
Hopefully someone will come up with a solution or we'll have to root the phone.
Boldbeast works
I yesterday updated to pie. I use Boldbeast recorder. To check, I recorded a call. The result was that other side was clearly audible.
P. S. Non rooted phone

Thanks for that.
I'm surprised though.
If you look at the reviews on Google Play, Bolbeast replies (to a user with a MI A2 on the 23rd of December):
Android 9.0 disabled the call recording feature, you can only record your own voice, no matter what recorder you are using in the market. You can test and confirm this fact. This app can fix the problem perfectly if you root the phone. Without root you have no solution in the world, with root this app is exactly the solution.

You say "clearly audible" but is that at the same volume as your voice ?
Because on ACR, the mic source can also pick it but at a very low volume.
Anybody tried Boldbeast using root mode?
Using Cube ACR, and voice is only audible, not loud and clear, and very hard to understand.
Boldbeast isn't working for me.
I didn't have to update to Pie, looking forward to downgrade safely for may reasons.

I've just tried Boldbeast out of curiosity...
with default settings it doesn't work, I can record my voice but not the other party.
With rooted mode and the settings described in the docs for Google Pixel (Record mode: alsa) it works perfectly.
I somehow cannot use my mic during calls even on Messenger. They cannot hear me. But I can record on a recorder whether it is Video or just Audio.
Anyone knows how to troubleshoot?
Thanks

I would suggest you to downgrade to android 9! Otherwise you can try to change settings in Google assistant and turn on microphone...
i installed android 10 beta on ze620kl but i can't unlock bootloader with application

Same here. I will downgrade as soon as possible.
Also, camera integration doesn't work well with some apps, some settings crash and gesture navegation of AOSP it's not good as ZenUI.
In the bright side, LEVEL_3 Cam2API is finally avaliable in this version and GCam is working much better.

I searched through web and found some people saying you can make it work by turning speakers on and then off, after the beginning of the call.
Others said it works by putting headphones and taking them off, after the call starts too.
Didn't tested anyone, but hope it works!
