Android / Mogul / Google Apps sync

I know that people are working on developing the Android platform for other phone, what I am wondering is this: will we ever be able to sync our google apps with the mogul (or any other phone) without running Android?
What I am wondering is this; I am using an exchange server right now, but come January/Febuary I am not going to have that option available anymore, so I was wondering if we will be able to sync our google apps at some point without having an Android phone...
I don't know much about hacking or the developement that goes into customizing Android, but it would seem like it would be possible to lift whatever part of the Android os that is being used for syncing the google apps, so that it could be used on other devices. It seems like this would be possible just like taking off touch flo, or any other built in program (I know it probably isn't quite that simple, I was just trying to explain my concept of things).
Will this be possible? Will we be limited to haveing a phone with Android os for this?
I know there isn't mass support for google apps on WM but there is the gmail Java App, which i use. I don't use this, but i know its out there, and its an app to sync your google calender with your WinMo calendar. I'll see if i can spot it and drop a link for you here.

who uses google 'apps'? lol. google.com is good for searching, and that's about it. all their side software has never impressed me or been usefull.
agreed. I and the majority of the people using windows mobile don't give a **** about google apps. I want android to just simply be bootable and stable from my sd card. I really don't want to run it all the time as windows mobile is second nature to me now.

I second this.

Anyone use Monilink?

I used to use Monilink a lot on my old Nokia. It is a Java app which you use to manage your bank account, it comes direct from your bank.
Anyone managed to use it under Android? I can't even get the wap push message to arrive when I register. I think it is arriving but the phone is ignoring it because when I put my sim in a different phone the message arrives every time!
doesn't work.
use the text message service from your bank.
There's a new version of the software coming out 1st weekend of December which will work with newer touchscreen phones, but still nothing for android or windows mobile yet.
the download link is just wap.monilink.co.uk/download.wml
i'd stick with the text alerts.

Wow, I didn't think anyone used MoniLink anymore! I was on the testing team for the bank when it was first launched, it never seemed to take off.
rhedgehog is right, looks like it will be coming out shotly, its just in testing, but this is not for Android / WM, they are not looking at this yet.
I used to find it quite good for quickly checking balances etc. Have to investigate the sms option to see if you can just send a text and they reply with balance etc. Perhaps before long the banks will make a version of internet banking with formatting for iphone/android etc as the full blown sites are rather clunky and slow when on the mobile.
Yes, you can. Each bank has a slightly different number, but in general you text BAL or MINI to that nuimber and it sends you back your balance or a mini statement.

Don't think you'll really ever get that from mainstream banks, especially the one I work out. It seems their attitute to mobile banking is that the industry changes too much and they can't afford resources to suit every mobile phone.
With computers, you have the main browsers like IE, FireFox, Safari, so they make it work for those, but others are a bonus. There are so many platforms and browsers for mobile, they just won't do it.
The bank I work for made me laugh when the iPhone came out and they advertised that their internet banking was made iPhone friendly like they made it like that, truth is, they just got lucky!
sad thing is, monilink are just releasing a version for the iphone. They are then updating for the other mainstream touchscreen phones (nokias and samsungs etc) in december...but nothing for us.
Sucks really.
Java
I would also like to get this running,
I am getting the message through with a link to download the app, I then paste this link into my java Midlet Manager, IE opens and and says it cant find the link, I f I was able to get this downloaded i dont see why it wouldnt run in the Midlet Manager ?
Any halp will be much appreciated.
Merry Christmas
I find using NatWest online banking on Hero quite ok. I used to use monilink on my windows mobile phones as the opera browser seemed incompatible. But all the browsers I tried on Android work without any problems.

Firefox Mobile (Fennec) Alpha Up for Windows Mobile Testing

Fennec, Firefox's mobile browser, inches closer to a widespread beta with the release of an alpha tested on an HTC Touch Pro, but available for download on any Windows Mobile 6 device.
https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Fennec/Releases
Trying this out now, feel free to leave feedback
I've had this for months. It's not very fast at all and they tease you with that "plugins" option without any plugins.

They do have add-ons available, you just can't access them from the browser:
http://bit.ly/6StAU6
You just have to download the .xpi file, copy it to your PPC, and tell it to open it with Fennec. I just read yesterday that AdBlock Plus has been released for Fennec as a beta...
Fun to play with, but ultimately far too long of a load time and far too high of an install size for practical use right now...
I believe Fennec is IN beta...but not for WinMo as of yet.
I'm quite curious to see what improvements have been made since this ver. of Alpha that most of us had a chance to play with.
I remember, that I was quite delighted with the control scheme (sliding left and right for buttons and control.
The zooming and rendering speed will definitely be the "deal makers/breakers" for me for this browser.
I use FF for my desktop...and if Fennec (Firefox Mobile) can sync bookmarks a la Xmarks...I think I'll be a follower of Mozilla!
I can't even run it on my TP2 because it always says that I don't have enough free memory.
Yeah, they have a lot of work to do, at least from the vantage point of this Alpha, but I would have liked to see more updates than what has been done on that Mobile Developments website. I'd love to stick with Firefox on my desktop and Fennec on my phone.
I installed in on my tmo tp2 w/htc 6.5 and it froze up the entire phone upon boot. I ended up flashing it. I had nothing else installed when i flashed it. I put it on, and it froze up again! Not gonna try this until the next release.
i tried it on my tp2 with 6.5 to started other than that did nothing. tried to uninstall and get wasnt completely removed error. had to use clear storage to get rid of it.

(REQ) Webtop Hacks, Multi-user, Pkg installer

So I have some thoughts on what would make improvments to the devices over all user experiance.
The finger reader is cool, If we could use it to identify two or three people /and/or Have a multi-user support then in the Laptop regard it would be better. Even if it was just Owner/Guest support. I realize that any access other then Owner would open security risk but on the laptop mode this could be a neat thing.
Also Since it is running a lame version of Ubuntu it should support multi user. The Webtop OS, can/should/may support it where I realize that Android isn't really ment for this, it would be a neat option on both OS's.
We really need package manager support in the Webtop. I can't view my bank account correctly due to lack of Java support in firefox and When I attempt to DL and install it, it can't because there is not a package manager. I haven't hacked much at it but it is not there by default.
Of course once the Double rainbow, as some call it, is out then this will be a non-point hence more of a gripe, but if your going to make Ubuntu into a web base OS, why not use Chrome OS, at least it has a App store and a great web browser. (not that firefox isn't but I've been doing chrome since beta).

*sigh* I really wish people would get their heads straight, because I keep seeing this over and over.
Look.
Nobody has access to the source for Chrome OS except for Google. Chrome OS hasn't been released out of beta yet. This isn't a Google Experience device, so there's no chance in hell that it would have Chrome OS.
Similarly, before you ask for Chrome, nobody (except Google, probably) has access to Chrome for ARM, since source isn't available for that either.

Hi ,
Not really Android Related but am sure some would be Interested in Google own OS and might like to try it out
Have fun
NOTE :
The Download link is pretty slow, takes around 2 hours on the free account
Best to download it from the bit torrrent link was quick just 5 mins
Thanks, ill give it a whirl on my old pc.
Have you tried it out yet?
If so how is it compared to other Linux is?
NA Havn't tried it yet, was planning to set it on my old pc as well.. not much of a linux fan but yeah will give it a go when i have more time
maybe you could give us a nice review
Haha, maybe I will when I get some spare time, not enough hours in the day
Im downloading it now to give it a go on my NC10 Samsung netbook! will let you know how i get on...37% downloaded...
Have got it and tried it, didn't like it and couldn't get the wireless working on it...
think I need to play with it a bit more...it is so basic and of course being linux is a bit clunky to get use to
Thanks, I thought that might be the case.
Hopefully it'll be improved to some sort of hybrid between windows and Ubuntu.
Sometimes simple tasks on Linux can be ridiculously time consuming :/
Just a warning : this is not related to Google or the ChromeOS.
This is not Googles own OS.
What is it then ? It is a Linux distribution based on SUSE and build with Chrome as the main browser.
Don't get foold by the name ...
