Had my droid since beginning of sept, droid 2.
got on this site, root'd it. Now I don't waste precious slow verizon 3g on ads, feels good man. What else shall I do? It seems to memory leak, I don't use too many apps either.
I use it for email from my business, which can be dozens at a time, teathering, etc. got setCPU, feels a lot better but still slow at times, etc
As I read I'm curious about stuff but not sure which i should explore into after rooting
well of course the obvious stuff like bootstrap recovery (get the donate version since he put a lot of work into it) and also launcherpro. These are two must haves. You already have setCPU, which combined with the profiles is a lifesaver since it can lower the battery usage. Wireless Tether for root users would be beneficial for you even though it only broadcasts in ad-hoc rather than infrastructure. I also really like the layout of beautiful widgets and would recommend purchasing this.

I got the bontical? wifi, works decent compared to pdanet app.
I mostly use setcpu to max cpu, though ive noticed it lasts forever at 1ghz :|, so far 4 hours or more of random use and it barely gone down. The scaling is nice too.
What else can I do with bluetooth?> So far I used DUN over pdanet, was ghey and slow but had decent distance. Never used bt on a laptop/phone before haha, it picked up a call earlier was nifty.
hey man... I, like you, just recently got into android with the droid 2 and from what i've seen you do you dont really "need" anything more assuming you have all the basics like a good QR reader, root explorer and the XDA app ; )... but the next steps I started taking from where you are now include getting rid of some BS from verizon/motorola by renaming .apks to stop them from draging my down in the background, and then from their I got bootstrap recovery and then flashed EPIC unleashed 2.5 (I started with 2.0 but 2.5 is out now so go with the new one) the only problem at that point is getting used to not having all the stuff from blur like their e-mail universal inbox and text messaging (i do miss the widgets sometimes).... but that stuff will decently make your stuff more snappy....
Also on setCPU, i wouldn't push the 1GHz thing.... my phone got hot when i tried that and started pushing 110f(so i put it in a lunchbox with ice-packs untill i was done goofing around) but now i just use it to underclock to 300mhz when the screens off and low battery.... sometimes it takes a second to wake up, but im not in that much a hurry i cant wait 2-3 seconds for my phone
Can you still request a free Touchdown application because of the broken Exchange Syncing? Or has this been fixed?

Flashed the new gingerstreak 2.4 ROM a couple of days ago. And what can I say, it just works.
Apart from a screen lock issue (just goes black and locks up - removal of battery required. Suspect it's a Widgetlocker issue cos it doesn't do it when I revert to stock lock screen) and a charging issue (says that my charger is faulty if I use a 3m USB extension lead, ok if I dispense with the extension lead)
As far as I can tell. Tethering, bluetooth, wifi all work properly. (not tried VPN - don't need it, don't know how to set it up)
GPS, however is greatly improved. Now works in my lounge ( ground floor, reinforced concrete ceilings) Managed to navigate from my lounge to the toilet - journey time 6 secs. Average speed 3mph if you really wanted to know (I know how you guys love detail...)
I especially like the little text selection tab on text entry. Makes editing a breeze...
As for the much vaunted battery life. TBH I've not had enough time to evaluate. But when I can stop f****ing around with it, and revert to normal day to day operation. I'll have a clearer idea, and will post again, along with any other likes/dislikes/bugs that I find...
Incidentally, I backed up my entire SD card. Wiped it. And without any kind of back up, carried out the flashing procedure as detailed in untold places on these forums. Then manually re-installed all 130 odd apps.
Not convinced that nandroid or other backups work that well. I bit of a pain, but I think it's worth it.
I love this phone, and right now I think it's as good as anything out there ('cept maybe the SII. or the Sensation xe) And I'm not at all sorry that I upgraded to this. Can't be long before it loses it's beta status, surely..?

I love it ive been using it now for 4 days and never had a lock up @ all it is 1000xs faster
I switched to 2.4 from Fards 2.3 and the biggest difference seems to be that I longer get random slow downs and on 2.3 I would very rarely get a reboot a when doing heavy gaming and that its no longer the case. 2.4 feels like a perfect and stable ROM to me with no issues whatsoever as of right

2.4 is pretty much close to a RC.

Upgraded from 2.3.3B2 and its been smooth sailing. I got the portrait lock version. Wish someone made a version with:
Portrait lock
Internationalization
Back Cover sensor disable
Google Talk from 2.3.4 (with video chat)
am getting to greedy aren't I?
Simply amazing I feel its the most stable Tom for the streak to date. Battery however still isn't great but, just like a car, if you buy a fast one youre not expecting good gas mileage. Also still needs the clocksync app.

Took the plunge myself this evening and it's mostly going well; EXTREMELY fast compared to 315!
Only bug I've found so far (and it's a biggie!) is that if I enable wi-fi, then I get an infinite crash-boot-loop. unfortunately, when I pull the battery and restart to get out of this loop, wi-fi is still enabled to the bug happens again! Took me a few tries to get in to the settings and disable wi-fi before it crashed again...
Since I disabled wi-fi it's been running like a dream!

I don't have any wifi issues besides the occasional dropped connection. Never have it cause a reboot.

Kinda wanted to throw my Streak in the trash. But after upgrading to GingerStreak 2.4 from StreakDroid 1.9, I love the device more than ever. So much smoother, faster and more reliable than before. I'm amazed really.
Haven't encountered any bugs yet. SuperUser problem was a minor blip.
IMHO anyone who says Gingerbread isn't much of an improvement over Froyo must be on crack (or just ignorant).

From what I've seen/read, it appears to be caused by the Wi-Fi sleep policy. The crash only seems to happen if you set the Wi-Fi to never sleep. Unfortunately, for me this is the only valid use of the Wi-Fi connection... what's the point if every time you turn the device on you have to reconnect to the network?
Anyway, that's the only real issue I've found so far. That and for some reason the "dimmed" buttons on widgetsoid switches are so dim they're invisible now... were fine in Froyo but I can't find a way to change it. Not really a GS issue though, just wanted to gripe

Add a background to widgetsoid. The reconnecting is no big deal for me.

One simple Question: Do i have to reflash amss coming from SD2.3? Or is the amss for this build the same as for the build before?
Btw.: Good work! Thanks to all the guys that contributed!
I'm using GingerStreak 2.4
But sometimes my streak boot couples of times before start up.
anyone knows why it happens?
Sent from my Dell Streak using Tapatalk
One thing I've noticed is that Gingerstreak doesn't have the funky CRT-style sleep animation when pressing the power button :-(
Also strangely the signal, Wi-Fi and cellular data indicators keep randomly changing between white and green...
otherwise it's great! ;-)
Solved my locking up. Set wifi to always on, instead of off with screen, widgetlocker works just fine.....

Holy cow! GS 2.4 is flawless so far! Have yet to notice a single glitch. Smoothest ROM yet for streak. Animations don't hang at all, like they invariably did with ANY version of FroYo.
Wow!

easy response to that is ALWAYS follow instructions. If it says to install a baseband, it's propably for a good reason so best to do it!
Flash the dsp file with fastboot.
Is this in beta still? I do not see the usual introduction and download links.
I've tried looking for an app like this for my evo and think I've seen it before but can't find it. I'm looking for an app that will turn wireless and/or BT on or off based on GPS location. Has anyone seen an app like this?
Tasker is a pretty popular app for location based task scheduling.
Tasker is very powerful, but it has a steep learning curve and costs more than most would like to spend on an app. If you want to try before you buy, there's a free 7 day trial on the Tasker website.
You can also try Llama - I believe it's free.

For WiFi, I use Y5, a free app that only turns on when you are near a saved wireless network, it works great, and doesn't require root. I don't believe it can do bluetooth, though.

Juice Defender is also really good:

Well there's auto airplane app that automatically turns off your radios on turn offs and on when turned back on. Saves battery. No gps though. Just a thought

I posted this question in another forum, and have some great responses so far, but I wanted to see what people's opinions were here as well:
This topic may sound a bit strange, but I'm wondering what people have done/plan to do once they have upgraded to a new phone after using the DX. Ideally, I'd like to use it for multimedia/music purposes but I'm wondering if there have ever been any ROMs or anything similar that could perhaps save some internal storage space or increase battery life by getting rid of the "data" and phone/radio aspects of the device. I do have the official Motorola car and home/multimedia docks so I can still find some realistic uses for my DX (especially if I'm trying to save battery on my new S3) but I wanted to see if anyone has ever done this and what ideas people may have. I realize that battery life could potentially be significantly better with no data usage (aside from occasional wi-fi) though, to be honest, I don't even know if what I'm asking about is even technically possible (i.e- creating a ROM for this purpose only) but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask. Thanks!
It makes a good streaming media player.
There aren't any ROMs that remove the phone functionality, but there's always airplane mode.

I've turned my DX into a VOIP home phone using sipdroid. I also use it for Torque and hooking up as a media streaming player to the speakers in my garage.
I'm running Gingerbread CM 7.1 kang and have used sqlite to disable the "disabling" of wifi in airplane mode. I get a solid two days of use before charging.

So I recently got this tablet, rooted it, and installed the 4.3 nightlys (this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2413878)
I've been bringing it to work so I can just get things done faster reading e-mail and news without distracting during my breaks. At some point, I started to noticed how incredibly slow things loaded up such as trying to load articles from feedly as well as its videos. I later noticed that my wifi was only 2 bars. I figured it was enough but apparently it isn't as things just load up so bloody slow.
I decided to to download the app, Speed Test, into the tablet and found out I've been downloading at crappy speeds of 900-1100 kbps while my Samsung Galaxy S4, in the same area I'm testing the speed, is running at ridiculous speeds of 26-30 >mbps<.
I actually restore the tablet back to original stock and tested again and same deal. Has anyone got this problem? I'm leading to believe its old hardware which would be incredibly disappointing if that's the case... but maybe there's an update or fix for this terrible wifi?
Check your Advanced WiFi settings - disable 'WiFi optimisation' and see how that goes. Apparently it slows things down!

I turned off and used it for a few days; same issue. Is there any other possibilities? Any patches or fixes for this? Because if it's really because of old tech, I'm going to sell this and try out Swappa to avoid eBay fees for such a disappointment.
Maybe you got a bad tablet mine off n router is way faster then that. Loads almost instantly

the router/modem combo that Time Warner gave me is junk, don't know what the hell is wrong with it
but other routers at my friends houses seem to do fine
so i'm guessing it's a hardware issue
im going to hook my d-link router up to the modem/router combo (if i can ever figure it out)
oh yeah, if anyone know how to do that (router to router) message me or something
