Flashed the new gingerstreak 2.4 ROM a couple of days ago. And what can I say, it just works.
Apart from a screen lock issue (just goes black and locks up - removal of battery required. Suspect it's a Widgetlocker issue cos it doesn't do it when I revert to stock lock screen) and a charging issue (says that my charger is faulty if I use a 3m USB extension lead, ok if I dispense with the extension lead)
As far as I can tell. Tethering, bluetooth, wifi all work properly. (not tried VPN - don't need it, don't know how to set it up)
GPS, however is greatly improved. Now works in my lounge ( ground floor, reinforced concrete ceilings) Managed to navigate from my lounge to the toilet - journey time 6 secs. Average speed 3mph if you really wanted to know (I know how you guys love detail...)
I especially like the little text selection tab on text entry. Makes editing a breeze...
As for the much vaunted battery life. TBH I've not had enough time to evaluate. But when I can stop f****ing around with it, and revert to normal day to day operation. I'll have a clearer idea, and will post again, along with any other likes/dislikes/bugs that I find...
Incidentally, I backed up my entire SD card. Wiped it. And without any kind of back up, carried out the flashing procedure as detailed in untold places on these forums. Then manually re-installed all 130 odd apps.
Not convinced that nandroid or other backups work that well. I bit of a pain, but I think it's worth it.
I love this phone, and right now I think it's as good as anything out there ('cept maybe the SII. or the Sensation xe) And I'm not at all sorry that I upgraded to this. Can't be long before it loses it's beta status, surely..?

I switched to 2.4 from Fards 2.3 and the biggest difference seems to be that I longer get random slow downs and on 2.3 I would very rarely get a reboot a when doing heavy gaming and that its no longer the case. 2.4 feels like a perfect and stable ROM to me with no issues whatsoever as of right

Portrait lock
Internationalization
Back Cover sensor disable
Google Talk from 2.3.4 (with video chat)

Simply amazing I feel its the most stable Tom for the streak to date. Battery however still isn't great but, just like a car, if you buy a fast one youre not expecting good gas mileage. Also still needs the clocksync app.

Took the plunge myself this evening and it's mostly going well; EXTREMELY fast compared to 315!
Only bug I've found so far (and it's a biggie!) is that if I enable wi-fi, then I get an infinite crash-boot-loop. unfortunately, when I pull the battery and restart to get out of this loop, wi-fi is still enabled to the bug happens again! Took me a few tries to get in to the settings and disable wi-fi before it crashed again...
Since I disabled wi-fi it's been running like a dream!

Kinda wanted to throw my Streak in the trash. But after upgrading to GingerStreak 2.4 from StreakDroid 1.9, I love the device more than ever. So much smoother, faster and more reliable than before. I'm amazed really.
Haven't encountered any bugs yet. SuperUser problem was a minor blip.
IMHO anyone who says Gingerbread isn't much of an improvement over Froyo must be on crack (or just ignorant).

From what I've seen/read, it appears to be caused by the Wi-Fi sleep policy. The crash only seems to happen if you set the Wi-Fi to never sleep. Unfortunately, for me this is the only valid use of the Wi-Fi connection... what's the point if every time you turn the device on you have to reconnect to the network?
Anyway, that's the only real issue I've found so far. That and for some reason the "dimmed" buttons on widgetsoid switches are so dim they're invisible now... were fine in Froyo but I can't find a way to change it. Not really a GS issue though, just wanted to gripe

One thing I've noticed is that Gingerstreak doesn't have the funky CRT-style sleep animation when pressing the power button :-(
Also strangely the signal, Wi-Fi and cellular data indicators keep randomly changing between white and green...

easy response to that is ALWAYS follow instructions. If it says to install a baseband, it's propably for a good reason so best to do it!
Flash the dsp file with fastboot.

I must be the only one in this forum with a working t-mobile vibrant.
Works great and never had the gps issue either.
Keep up the good work T-mobile!
You're not the only one.
my compass was wonky though, but the JI2 Rom fixed it for me.
glad to hear your's works fine.

It's nice to see a thread complimenting this wonderful phone instead of complaining. I also love my phone. Rooted, applied the GPS flashable .zip, and lag fix, but since then, everything's been flawless. Well, the battery life could be a little better, but I get through the day. And the fact that I can't sync with my Google Groups is kind of annoying, too. Haha. But it's cool to see my iPhone friends drool over the greatness that is my Vibrant.
Cheers.
A good amount of people with problems are the ones that hack up their phones. I don't install garbage roms on my phone and I don't have any "lag" "fixes" on my phone and it works great. I updated my phone to JI2 and performance is exactly where I want it to be. Battery life is excellent, EVEN BETTER - despite the fact that I have Tweetcaster, Google Talk, Tweetdeck, Google News&Weather, Fancy Widget AND Feeds & updates syncing every hour or 3. 13 hours of time unplugged right now @ 60% left. Slept for 10 of those hours, left it alone for 2 and I've been used it for maybe 1 hour. Now I'm going to really wake up..
LOVING my Vibrant.
The people complaining are people who expect more from the hardware. This phone is a monster when it comes to specs, but its not showing it software wise, yet.
Personally, coming a blackberry, I don't notice any lag lol.
How you got install JI2... to make the phone run smoother. If you don't mind.

Using Ji2 also. I haven't bass much problem with my phone, except for lousy 3G, which got better with Ji2, but is ultimately a network problem in my area.
GPS and compass were wonky, but Ji2 fixed that. I have never had the supposed lag that everyone talks about. Did they expect a beowulf cluster of MIT supercomputers under the touchscreen?
As some others have said, those who have problems tend to also run extensively modded ROMS and overclocked kernels, etc.

I switched to the Vibrant from the iPhone 3GS since the contract was finished and I couldn't be happier. This screen leaves the self-promoting "retina" screen in the dust. Black is black on this phone, period. Looking back at the iPhone, the colors now seem to be washed out. The Vibrant is really so vibrant and so light that I can put it in the shirt pocket and don't notice anything. However, after two weeks, I start seeing some worrisome symptoms. Occasionally, the phone becomes so sluggish that only a reboot will fix. I can't let the phone running constantly for many days without rebooting to get the responsiveness back. Even when a call comes in, the screen just not responds to touch until 10 sec later. The System Sound turns itself back so loud that when you reboot the phone, you have to keep the finger on the loudspeaker hole in the back to keep the sound down in the office and then set the System Sound down again for quiet shutdown. In side my house, the signal strength drops to around 0. Many time the phone just does not bother searching for signal any more. When I get into the car and drive out, the phone does not refresh searching for signal. I have to manually turn off and then on the flight mode for the phone to wake up, search for signal and lock it. This relock is very quick, but it's annoying that I have to remember to give the phone a kick to search after it looses the signal for a while.
All problems above are small problems, but they remind me the symptoms of Microsoft Windows before Windows 7 finally came. Any one has the annoying problems that I have? Note that I have Android 1.2 update 1 and I do not have any issue with GPS. Overall it's a much better phone than the iPhone, since I don't have the feeling of locking into ONE company for hardware and for software and I don't have to jailbreak it to get what I want. Thank you for all you guys writing great software for the Android platform. Samsung did a good job with this phone. Maybe Android 2.2 fixes all issues above. Can't wait.

How's your battery life?
I love the screen, too, but after two months with the phone I can't wait for 2.2 to hopefully fix some of the issues, and 3.0 to revamp the UI a bit - it's just not as smooth as the iPhone. And I hate the battery life compared to the iPhone.
But, the screen rocks.
As we are aware that there has been a official Froyo release for the captivate. Ive done some reading and cannot find conclusivly if things have been fixed as this may well be a good view of what the international version will look like.
The questions i have is
1. Is the GPS fix a completed fix and all is now well with teh gps.
2. Is JIT enabled and does it improve the speed.
3. Is the lag issue no gone or will we need to do a lag fix.
4. What other improvements are there? and whats not fixed?
Cheers guys if anything this will allow us to discuss the leak from our i9000 point of view.
You know there's a thread for this in the Captivate forums, right?

It is unlikely that lag has been fixed as Samsung is still using the RFS file system. The problem with the lag is that it gets worse over time so even those claiming they have no lag immediately after installing new ROM will probably get it after a few days.

Leaked FROYO on Captivate - excellent so far
ATT Captivate
One of the pre-Nov 6, 2010 Korean machines - and, yes, it has had the random turn-off issue both pre and after upgrade to FROYO.
Use LauncherPro for the Home Screen.
Used SuperOneClickv1.7-ShortFuse to root.
Working around the random turn-off with NoBars app - we'll see if it works.
RESULTS:
Phone is WAY faster than 2.1
GPS works fine
Good new additions and look in Settings
Apps I use simply do NOT FORCECLOSE! ...like some did incessantly with 2.1
Of course, voided warranty, but phone is now fast, stable, and seems to be much more reliable.

ATT Captivate FROYO update re random shut-down....
Well, I know there are threads about this - ones I've seen are closed.
So, a quick update just in case anyone finds this useful:
The random shut down continued, despite NoBars app.
Installed APN OnOff. Turned it ON, disabling 3G/EDGE/GPRS, and after 3 hrs, no turning off. Turned it APN back off, and noticed the screen would go blank, and I could bring it back by pressing power button without then having to enter my security code, every time something accessed 3G/EDGE/GPRS. Put phone into standby - shut itself down within 10-15 mins.
Solution I am trying: following above I went into sync settings and disabled Background Data, and Auto-sync. So far so good - no shut down.... if it does, it does look like the APN OnOff app will prevent this, you'd just have to turn it off when needing to use the 3G/EDGE/GPRS.

How do you guys get the streak to run so smooth? I rooted it, and installed the 1.0.9 dj_steve ROM. I have seen youtube videos of this thing being really smooth, but for me it's really choppy.... I have the stageui, should I reflash and take it off?
you dont need to reflash, but you might as well. i run launcher pro which disables stage ui, but it will still be there on the phone (you just wont see it) so a reflash would wipe it off and you could then run whatever launcher you like without stage taking up resources.
You think it's the stage ui then...
I found the Streak ran faster and more smoothly when I deleted Stage UI.
I have a rooted (Gingerbreak) stock 351 ROM and it's very smooth and snappy. First app I installed after flashing and rooting it is Launcher Pro Plus. Then, I installed SystemApp Remover to uninstall most of the Dell stock apps (Stage widgets, Accuweather, etc.).
Pretty sure it's Stage UI that's the problem. I tried it for all of 30 seconds and then immediately went in and deleted it!! Too laggy for me. Gimme ADW Ex or LPP any day!

You don't NEED to do either of these to increase performance. I would simply download and install LauncherPro or ADW or VTL launcher. Any of those three are so much superior to Stage in every way.
Overclocking isn't necessary, neither is the perfmod. While both are nice, you will want to be sure you know what you are doing before you go down those paths ... just in case.

I got 1.9.0 on mine, and use SetCPU to overclock to 460 MHz-1382 MHz. It runs stable very nicely especially when using the GPS.
One thing I absolutely hate is the choppy home screen using Laucher Pro with effects disabled. It's usable, but it still can't compare to the smoothness of iPod Touch 4g or Windows Phones home screens.
Another thing I really hate about Android is that wifi is not that smooth. It doesn't stay on even if I change the menu in 'wi-fi settings' - 'Advanced' - change the sleep policy to 'Never', and it doesn't automatically switch to known wifi when I move to another location. The worst thing about wifi is that it sometimes doesn't work at all even if it can see the routers, and say it's connected. This really pisses me off. Kakao talk, emails notifications come in really slow. Sometimes it doesn't come in unless I manually run those apps and do a refresh.
I bought mine as a phone/ipod touch 4g replacement, but these problems are making me want to get rid of my streak. If the GPS was slow too, I would have already sold it. GPS is way faster than my Garmin 1350T.

Mine has been great with wifi (untill the dj steve gingerbread update). It always stays on and always switches between known and saved connections when i move from one known hotspot to another.
However, now with the new update, when wifi is left on and my streak is idol it likes to reset itself. Now i have to leave it off all the time. Ive also experienced a ton of lag and sluggish performence with this new update. Fingers crossed for an update soon.

Official 318 + Perfmod + clean crapware + overclock to 1,2 + baby oil (optional ) = Best streak I 've ever had.
i found stageui lagged me too much, went to adw and just put a blank background, running smooth on 1.9 streakdroid
I believe you can set stageui to be completely removed on install. Ive tried with the fast root uninstallers but it never goes away. I just end up killing it with SystemPanel. Or attempting to.
I am a serial ROM junkie BUT I am still in the sidelines on this one. Having read through most of the posts I still can't see what going to the beta Gingerbread achieves. Does it do anything better than the stock 2.2 which is so stable?

I feel the same way. My atrix is my only phone so I will just watch here with interest but wait for Motorola to do it's thing....I hope.
Of course it is fun to play with, but I have gone back to 1.83. It is my only phone and the rom made for Hong Kong phones is just to buggy for every day use IMHO. They have made great progress in removing a lot of the bugs, but it is just not ready for prime time yet. If I had a backup phone I would be all over it, but as it will be coming soon I believe. I can wait.

I've been using 2.3.4 since it was released here with tutorials on how to install. I used _unknown's method. I have seen no real benefits, other than having an unlocked bootloader and a recovery I can boot into anytime I want. However IMO it is stable enough to use daily... battery life is about the same, and my phones been on with no restarts for a little over 48 hrs. The only way to appreciate all the work these devs have been doing is to try it out yourself
And I would like to thank xda for hosting a forum with an endless amount of useful knowledge for all the smart phones I've had in the last 2-3 years.

Speed test wise is a bit better but this thing is such a beast its hard to see it. Camera app had a real overhaul and I love it! Battery, like above poster , seems the same. Software being gingerbread is more about cosmetics and I'm very happy in that regard ... it's pretty sexy I'm back to using launcher pro + for now but the moto-blur UI looks great. So good in fact I just started using LP+ recently. That's a big statement being as I slapped gingerblur P-ROM on the day I purchased the ATRIX!

Pretty much this for me, if they get the fingerprint scanner working I'll be a happy camper
the only bug i have noticied with the phone is that the FP scanner doesn't work, and the FFC appears sideways (but is normal when videochatting to the person on the other end).
the build is noticeably faster and smoother for me for animations, especially the 3d-cube and cylindrical app transitions on Go Launcher EX. the screen transitions for open-close and vertical-horizontal are pretty nice too since froyo lacks them. once i installed all the 'fixes' that devs have come up with, i see no reason to go back to Froyo, as I can live without the FP scanner for now, and videochatting with the FFC is fine. oh yeah, and i freakin LOVE the CRT shutoff animation.
oh yeah, and the new battery use meter system is pretty freakin' cool.
I moved back to 2.2.1 from 2.3.4 since I had horrible battery life on the HKTW 2.3.4 beta build! Other than that, I have to say it is way faster and smoother than 2.2.1!
speed, battery life, those were arbitrarily the same for me..
two of my fav noticeable improvements are:
1.) ability to clear notifications from your bar one by one instead of having to clear them all.
2.) being able to boot straight into CWM w/o a charger
3.) finally fixed the slow market download speeds!!!
2.3.4 is insanely fast compared to stock. Once you take the tome to fix the small bugs it's a really good everyday rom.
On 2.3.4 I get almost the same battery life with push email and no battery conservation as I did in 2.2.2 with everything turned off. There is no wakeup lag or random pauses like before. At first it seemed like it drained battery but After a couple days when my battery had calibrated itself this were normal.
So far the only bugs I have are the funky front facing camera and I can't sync my exchange account.nmy phone no longer heats up as much as before.
I am running launcher pro and havent disable blur yet and it's super fast. For comparison 2.2.2 with launcher pro and no blur was still slow.
It's completely changed my views of the Atrix, except for the screen.

They did indeed. When I'm on wifi now at home I get full 1.5 MB a second market download speeds where as before I swore it never went above 250-300 kb / sec. Even on 3g the market finally takes advantage of the full bandwidth. I had to test downloading big game apks as regular apps kept finishing before I can even check the speeds

Even on 3g the market finally takes advantage of the full bandwidth. I had to test downloading big game apks as regular apps kept finishing before I can even check the speeds

On 2.3.4 I get almost the same battery life with push email and no battery conservation as I did in 2.2.2 with everything turned off.
...
So far the only bugs I have are the funky front facing camera and I can't sync my exchange account.nmy phone no longer heats up as much as before...

No Exchange syncing = one less push email account. That's probably why battery life seems the same for you. Mine is noticeably worse.
Unless you didn't use Exchange push in 2.2.2, in which case forget this post.

I didn't use exchange or gmail push, or even fetch in 2.2
Right now my battery is 10% lower at the end of my work night following my same usage habits. 2.3.4 seems to be much more efficient with memory management as well.
I can do without fingerprint scanner and the front facing camera, this ROM is definitely better than 2.2 froyo. Now I feel like I own a dual core phone.I am unlocked and can't wait to flash an American optimized ROM!

(Sorry for posting this in a new thread. I couldn't find another SGS2 CM7.1 thread that it seemed relevant to.)
So yesterday I installed cm_galaxys2_full-75 on my SGS2 and I have to say I'm completely blown away. Its not quite ready for my daily user, but it is very close and already a fantastic system.
Couple of possible bugs I noticed that stood out. Bluetooth works. I could pair with devices and send individual files (didn't try a batch of files) but when I paired with a Nokia A2DP headset, no audio went through. A little disappointing and not a deal breaker, but still something that was frustrating. Hunted out and plugged in the wired headset and got my musical fix that way. I didn't spend a lot of time trying to figure it out.
What ended up forcing me back to VillainROM was the wifi. It was flakey for some reason. Then, after about 3 hours, it wouldn't detect any access points at all, let alone connect to them. Just didn't show any in the list. Wifi is not the greatest in my area at the best of times. There are about 25 APs in about a 200 yard radius of my place fighting for channels and bandwidth, so sometimes you almost have to be sitting over the AP to maintain a connection for any length of time. But when the phone no longer saw *any* APs, things got a little frustrating.
I did have one little power related issue. I turn my phones off when charging while I sleep. However, yesterday I noticed that if you turn the phone off then plug in the charger, it will cause the phone to turn on and boot up. Not ideal. Not sure whether its a deliberate feature or something to report as a bug. I'm wondering if its because of the battery charge indicator that displays on the screen when the phone is off and charging. Again, not a deal breaker, but I like to look after my batteries.
I really like the direction of the system. It was extremely fast and smooth on the phone. Installed the GApps and started loading everything back from the market. Because of the wifi situation, this got tedious having to do it over 3G/HSPA+ so got the important stuff I needed to get through the day.
I love the customisability of CM7.1. The themes and profiles are something I miss from my old Nokia days and CM is the first time I've seen it really well implemented on Android. Every other platform I've tried has essentially needed to have themes flashed rather than installed. A minor thing I guess, but annoying none-the-less. What it did manage to do is have me reconsider ADWLauncher. I'm a LauncherPro Plus guy. Have always just liked the simplicity of it. But the way it is presented in CM7 has me thinking I might try ADW out a little more thoroughly.
Performance is outstanding. I didn't notice any jitters or slowdowns in the system the whole time I was using it. In fact, even when switching between themes several times, once the theme had loaded there didn't seem to be any hit in performance. ADW was fast and smooth. The system as a whole seemed better in performance than the original TouchWiz 4.0 does on the device.
A days worth of using it left me really impressed. To the devs and the team working on it, you're doing a great job. Thank you for the efforts.
I'm fighting the urge to make the switch to this distro full time. I'm tempted to grab build 77 and see if I can replicate the wifi bug. ;-) The wifi issue is the only thing keeping me on VillainROM for now though.

Given that is the Q&A thread, and this post wasn't asking for help, I'd rather not add more noise to that thread with an OT post.
