I bought this android head unit from ALIBABA. supplier was good shipped early. but then after i got the item used for like 3 weeks and suddenly it restarted and an error came. there was two options "try again" or "factory reset" so i selected try again and it did restart again and worked perfect. The internal memory on your phone is broken. You need to send your phone off to be repaired.

I tried the following and it worked. Remove back cover, remove battery, blow with your lips pressed to the left of where the sim/external sd card is placed two or three times vigorously. It seems this might work because the internal SD card is placed under the plastic right below where I was blowing and it might "reset" the contacts by blowing away any dust that might have blocked . It is not very scientific but it surely beats having to open the whole device to change or clean the internal SD card. Let me know it works ( I battled several hours to come up with this solution)
Opening the phone isn't terribly hard, but getting the top and bottoms to stick after is hard. Just call dell and theyll have one to you in two days if you are in the US.
I am also desperate not to do, I've tried everything and I can not reset the dell streak remains in the dell logo, I tested and nothing multirecovery both as ClockworkMod streak mode.
My problem was that the screen changes and then we did not want to reboot, also gives me this message when I start ClockworkMod:
e: can not mount / dev / block / innersd0p5
e: can not mount CACHE: recovery / log
e: can not open CACHE: recovery / log
e: can not mount / dev / block / innersd0p5
I also tried to rapairtool and nothing seems that if you add everything but does not finish starting.
Please help, thank you very much.
The solution was to take it with the technician, opened it and found a short in the internal memory so it would not start, the safest thing is you have to take it to repair, the system is not the problem is internal memory, my dell streak works great, and I hope it serves you something. Take it to repair ok there is no other solution. A greeting and that everything goes well.

My friend just brought a new one and update to 3.1,can I copy the rom from his unit to sd card, then use it on my machine.

Do you have stock or custom recovery?
If you're using CWM recovery, you need to make a modification to erase all data
see the CWM thread (OP) for instructions:

Just had a thought that might help you. On your tablet, go to apps, settings, privacy, and unmark "backup my data". Let it sit for a few minutes then hit the Factory reset option.
I do IIf that doesn't work the file you'll need is the "Acer_A500_1.141.07_4.010.11_COM_GEN1". It took me forever to find it and when I did it was buried in a post. "Search" XDA or google it. I can't upload it as the file is too big. Ive tried to find it again and couldn't. If I do, I'll post the link.

Any idea.

1. Did you try the unmarking backup method? Did it work?
2. Your SD Card should have at least 2 files on it: Lost Dir and android secure-which is a hidden file.
I cant remember if the Acer_500 file needed to be decrypyed or not. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14209794&postcount=1
You need to pull the update.zip and put it on the root of SDcard.
Read these 2 posts. These are where I got alot of info. Thanks to all these reference posts and files.

First of all, hello. I'm new to tinkering with Android, but I've flashed firmware on dumbphones 68 ways to Sunday, so I'm not new to phone modding nor am I worried about technical answers, so fire away.
To start, this phone has not been rooted (yet) and has the stock 2.3.4 ROM.
I've screwed around for the last six hours or so in fear of bricking the phone only to realize I should have followed a different set of instructions after Step 1 of Downgrading in this guide, because now that I've read other guides, I find this one unnecessarily complicated compared to directly pushing PD15IMG.zip to sdcard.
Since I'm already calling it quits on going any farther with this tonight, I just need a few questions answered before I give this another shot.
1. Is ADB supposed to see the phone when it is in recovery or bootloader mode? When the phone is in recovery or bootloader, entering adb devices in the Windows Command Prompt returns an empty list of devices attached.
2. I have the bad eMMC in my phone. In addition, once in recovery mode and I press Vol Up+Power, I see an error message that says E:Can't open /cache/recovery/command. I also get additional "can't open" error messages when I select Wipe data/factory reset from the recovery menu:
Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
E:Can't open /data/cwpkg.zip
E:Can't open /data/cw.prop
E:Can't open /cache/cwpkg.zip
E:Can't open /cache/cw.prop
Formatting /cache...
Data wipe complete...
Are those errors a concern? Are they a product of a failed eMMC or a corrupted file system? If they are because of the eMMC, would it be safe to say that I should leave this phone alone? If they are because of the file system, what I can do to fix these errors?
3. Now that I've read other, more MT4G-specific downgrading guides, will pushing PD15IMG.zip to sdcard and fastboot take care of the "can't open" errors in question 2 as well?
you need clockwork recovery if you want to flash.
You need to downgrade then root with s-off and have eng bootloader to attempt the wipes you've been trying. I just downgraded, last night, just follow the instructions. It's really easy. don't see how you can brick the phone while downgrading unless your phone dies during the flashing step.
Btw you shouldn't worry too much about the bad chip. Both good and bad have been known to brick. All bad chips aren't bad, it's only more susceptible to bricking. I have a bad chip and been flashing since forever

are you talking about the stock recovery? because the stock recovery is supposed to say "E: can't open /cache/recovery/command". not sure why but it does. happened on every stock recovery i've seen.
Yes, I'm on stock recovery, and that's good to know that it appears to be normal.
Currently, I have successfully downgraded to stock 2.2.1 with the .86 bootloader.
Now, in following this guide, I've gotten to the end of Step 10 and I get the following:
Code:

./gfree -f

Error opening backup file.
What should I do with the backup not being written?
Upon rebooting into bootloader, it still says S-ON.
Also, to back up a bit, in Step 5, I was supposed to unplug the phone from the computer and use the Android Terminal Emulator. I didn't and executed the commands through ADB because the soft keyboard input wasn't working at all in Android Terminal Emulator.
EDIT: Fixed the problem with backup not working and I now have S-OFF. The microSD card in my phone wasn't being detected properly, so instead of seeing the correct permissions d---rwxr-x with ls -l for directory /mnt/sdcard, it was being seen as read-only. When gfree attempted to write the backup to /sdcard, it failed because the SD was read-only.
I took out my 16GB card and put in my 8GB and this time, the gfree backup saved. I can't recall if I had the phone plugged in when I rebooted the phone or plugged it in afterward, but I'm slowly realized that the SD card gets remounted when you plug and unplug the phone from the computer due to the different file systems. That's why I had issues saving files to /sdcard through ADB. Now I understand why the commands were supposed to be entered in Android Terminal Emulator, but I couldn't get the soft keyboard to function in it. Hopefully, that won't be a problem after flashing the new ROM, but that will be the next concern for me.
EDIT 2: I have now installed CWM Recovery 5.0.2.0. Also, it looks like the Android Terminal Emulator developer borked the keyboard input with today's update. Read comments from October 22, 2011:

remember to perm root your phone and flash the engineering bootloader i think it was like .85 something
Thanks. I had it perm-rooted and installed the engineering bootloader by the end of the weekend. I'm looking forward to flashing VU after I get some more free time and take note of settings and apps I might want to keep from the stock ROM.
your apps should be restored by google
but just in case, use titanium backup or my backup. I personally prefer my backup to backup my sms/mms, apps and settings because its quicker when you restore.
I use titanium backup to backup and restore system apps.
Oh yeah you shouldn't try to backup your settings from your stock and restore it when you flash VU, they're different OS so might cause problems. BUT it's useful when you flash new updates.
Other than VU, you might want to try TDJ's Darkside if you want to test out sense 3.5. However, i might go back to virtuous once they release a final build for sense 3.5
happy flashing
I actually didn't have any settings to back up because I haven't been using the phone as my primary phone since I bought it, but I backed up the stock Froyo ROM and flashed to VU 2.39 two nights ago. Everything appears to be running well. I reinstalled Swype 3.7 from the stock Gingerbread ROM and I still need to reinstall Genius with Button Shortcut.
I don't really like the trouble of going back and forth between ROMs, so thankfully, I'm quite pleased with VU and Sense 3.0. The rest is just customization at this point. I may eventually take a look at Virtuous Trentacinque after it goes gold, but I didn't want to wait around for it nor run a beta ROM on what will soon become my main phone. I have no problem with flashing files and making tweaks all day, but it gets old after a while and I'd rather just use the equipment instead.
So far, battery life on VU seems to be pretty good and is much better than stock. I'm enjoying the new ROM so far as well as finally getting to use the phone rather than just backing up files and testing features.
fyi, Swype 3.25 beta is out. I think Swype 3.26 beta is out too. I think there was a thread with themed Swypes somewhere. But I forget.

Hi - I'd really appreciate some help with trying to boot my A500.
I have spent hours over the last week trying to boot my A500, and am literally going mad, so thanks in advance for your time reading this - and all the incredibly useful posts that have got me this far.
About 2 weeks ago - my A500 froze on a webpage, and the screen was unresponsive.
I tried turning the unit off and back on again, and it just hung on the acer screen.
I did A LOT of reading around - and tried the following
- Paperclip in the reset hole
- trying to USB the tab to my PC. Windows doesn'tt recognize it. I have installed the Acer USB software.
- Volume up with power on and the toggle switch
- Volume down with power on
- emailing acer tech support, twice without a response other than the auto "You will receive a response within 24 hours"
When I do the volume down and power on - I get the Android icon with the exclamation mark, then the tab boots and I get to a screen asking for a password.
I have tried my google password without success. I have never set up a password to lock the tablet.
I have then downloaded what seems like a hundred ROM's copied to 3 different micro SD's with a variety of different formatting. Saving the files as update, update.zip, and their original file name, and unzipping them on the root of the micro sd card.
When I try the volume down and power - I still get the exclamation mark - and eventually directed to the password page again. I see the icon to show there is an SD card in the device at the bottom right of the screen.
I have also tried plugging in my wireless USB keyboard - doing the volume down power thing while pressing home on the keyboard.
I get the following options:
reboot system now
apply update from external storage
wipe data/ factory reset
wipe cache partition
I have tried them all. Reboot system takes me back the password prompt.
When I apply update from external storage - I get the following message:
E:unknown volume from path [/sdcard]
E:error opening /sdcard: No such file or directory
E: unknown volume for path [/sdcard]
It seems to me that the a500 isn't picking up the update.zip or recognizing the micro SD card.
Does anyone have a link to a stock ROM that they know to work (I have downloaded many - but get the above scenario every time)
Any advice on the password?
Any advice on flashing the ROM - why isn't the A500 picking up the micro SD card - when I know it has read these cards in the past?
I bought the device from a company called valuetech ltd through Amazon UK, who gave me a 3 month guarantee, which has recently expired. I have the box etc.
I haven't rooted the A500 at any point, and haven't installed anything other than the stock updates.
This is driving me demented, and I would genuinely appreciate any help. Thanks for your time reading this.
Dave
Well, seems a pickle you have yourself in.
Have you tried this?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1307539
You may have to download the Android SDK first, and then the google driver pack to get ADB working.
You might be able to get an ADB connection working. Maybe not. When your pc asks for drivers, let it search your system. It should tag the Android Debug Interface. You may have to manually select the driver, and ignore the warning.
Or it may not. But it's a good place to start.
It's extremely difficult to "hard brick" an Iconia tablet. Honestly, I have never seen it happen as long as there is life to it. It's just a matter of finding the correct method.

He's definitely right... moscow is always right the acer basically cannot be bricked, unless you smash the thing or something. Look over my posts as well as the one moscow posted, I had a "brick" scare not too long ago and I had to figure that out. Should be able to guide you in the right direction.
I left my TPT unattended for two days on.
When I've tried to use it again I got a message that Encryption did not end correctly to make a reset to original values.
This was strange and because recovery was not working I did tried that step as well without success.
Due to low battery, I manage to access settings and came to realize that there are strange certificates install like TURKTRUST Digital Certificate which I came to realize is reported to be a virus http://eromang.zataz.com/2013/01/04/fraudulent-turktrust-digital-certificat-used-in-active-attacks/
In recovery I see that I cannot mount the internal SD or data. I can connect trough ADB but I'm not an expert able to use it properlly.
Any ideas on how to recover my TPT?
Thanks in anticipation.
EDIT:using adb I manage to get the catlog ...hope someone is expert enough to go around this problem.
I only need to format / mount SDCard and data which is blocked now ...
