Hello, xda_developers.
I just got mail S7 Unlocked in the mail that I ordered from eBay, I believe it was a sweet deal CAD $549.99 + tax. I am with Telus BTW. Let's get to the point.
The phone is with Sprint which has bloatware and APN is locked out. I want to flash a new firmware onto the phone without Tripping the Knox. I looked into the 930U Firmware but don't know which one to pick. I looked into the thread: "Bloat free firmware 930U....anyone tried it?" and saw the part about root, so I backed out.
After I looked into the Sprint SM-G930P firmware and saw few different "Regions": SPR, XAS, and VMU. I found"SPR" is Sprint, and "VMU" is Virgin Mobile USA. For "XAS" I am not too sure, but "XAS image has the APN section unlocked". ("Here" )
Afterwards, I found the forum "Found a code...interesting...." and used the code "##BRAND#" and removed the Sprint boot logo, and some bloatware but the APN was still locked out, and still had "Hands-Free Activation".
I need help picking the right Firmware for my phone, which will let me add APN, and remove the "Hands-Free Activation". I do not want or need to root the phone.
The phone is up to the latest update:
Software Version: SG930PVPS2APG1 ,
Hardware version: REV0.6 ,
Baseband version: G930PVPS2APG1 ,
Build number: MMB29M.G930PVPS2APG1 .
I did not want to flash firmware without knowing for sure it will not brick the phone, brand new phone in a long time, I don't want to break it or brick it on the first day.
Aswell, I am not sure if I can flash a Canadian firmware, SM-G930W8 or the Global Firmware, SM-G930F.

The 930U firmware will work perfectly fine without root. No bloatware and you can modify the APN's.

the 930U firmware is bloatware free, and I don't have to root the phone? Also does it have the "Hands-Free Activation" or the "Activate this device" in Settings?
It's bloatware free and it doesn't require root. And when I flashed...it simply activated my device and there's no activate device in settings.

edit: Quick Update, went to flash the G930U files(firmware?) and it all went smoothly. Takes time to register onto network. any fix without root?
edit 2: Just did a factory reset from recovery, seems to have fixed the slow network register
edit 3: The phone seems to run warmer than the sprint firmware, no idea why

Congrats on the phone! That is a good deal considering the phone goes for 899 brand new, and I'd assume around 600-750. But with black listing these days I wouldn't trust Kijiji etc.
Your phone should work fine except for LTE. Its missing I believe 2-3 bands for LTE but on the plus side it's the bands that bell/Telus don't really use much like 2600. So if you ever see soneone else have LTE and not you that would be why but, then again the bands you don't have usually are for rural areas

Thank you very much. It's a pretty nice deal, still going on I believe. I don't have to worry about the blacklist. Even without the 2600 band data works great, really don't mind not having a few LTE bands, for the price i got the phone for. With the 930U firmware, it works great.

The U firmware has more/better LTE bands enabled than the Sprint (P) firmware. I strongly doubt it's missing any LTE bands used in Canada.

I believe your correct with the U firmware It shouldn't be missing a band or 2 like it is on the Sprint firmware. But yes about the same price as you'd get it on Kijiji (since there's tax) but it's new and don't have to worry about the blacklist

FWIW - here are the bands that are apparently supported in the 930U firmware. This is band priority list from the LTE section of the ##DATA# menu. Not sure which bands Canada uses, but it looks like the only major one missing might be band 17?

I think the Canadian networks may have started using MFBI on band 12 (like AT&T has). If so then B17 would no longer be necessary in Canada. The best place to verify this might be to post a question about it on the Bell and Rogers forums on Howardforums.

hi,
i downloaded the rom and tried flashing the phone, but in odin it came as "Fail" and now phone is gone. it is going in recovery and the phone is not starting

Did the actual flash fail, or did one or more of the MD5 checks fail? What version of Odin did you use? If any of the MD5 checks failed, you just need to download the firmware again - your download was corrupted. If the actual flash failed, the most common cause is the USB cable/connection. Try another USB cable, and/or another USB port on your computer, and don't move the phone or computer around while it's flashing. Odin is very temperamental if the connection is not perfect.

Hi i tried again and the rom was successfully flashed. Now the problem is that, it is not accepting my T-mobile sim card and there are still some options missing from the settings menu, such as "mobile networks, wifi calling, hotspot and tethering.. Plz help.. I am so confused

I'm confused too. Are you wanting to use it on Sprint or T-Mobile? Do you have a sprint account, and did your phone activate on Sprint? I don't have any experience using a non-Sprint sim with this phone/firmware. The only thing I can suggest it maybe do a factory reset and go through the setup/activation with the T-Mobile sim already in the phone. Good luck.
If you're wanting to use both Sprint and T-Mobile on this phone, I'm not sure if that's possible. From what I've read elsewhere, even though this firmware is unlocked, it can only be active on one carrier at a time. I don't think you can switch back and forth at will, without activating/deactivating from one carrier to the other. I could be wrong though, as I have not used anything but my original Sprint sim.
Hi all.
I have a G930P just unlocked (USB/hardware method via GSMZambia). Currently has older OTA-restricted ROM to allow the unlock.
I'd like to update to the newest G930U firmware to get rid of all the Sprint stuff.
We are Verizon (USA) customers, and will uset he phone on the VZW network. I have already confirmed this works after the unlock (using the SIM from my own VZW S7).
Question is:
Which G930U firmware do I use? on the download pages they are specified for Sprint, Veriozn, AT&T etc.
Do I use the G930U for VZW because that will be the carrier? What is teh difference between these, I assume it is the splash screen and which radios are set as the default?

Wanted to follow up on this.
After some careful comparison I realized that ALL the "u" firmware files listed - for each of the different carriers - are in fact all the same file. Which make sense b/c it's intended for a phone that starts off life w/ possibility to go to any network.
So after putting the "u" firmware on my formerly Sprint phone, it works flawlessly on Verizon. As far as I can tell all the relative radio bands are working equally well as my other G930V (native Verizon) phone.
Hopefully this will be helpful to somebody else in the future....

I didn't do anything special at all.
I literally installed the reference ROM, and it worked. It has since auto-updated itself several times, and works flawlessly.
It's my wife's phone, I have a G930V w/ Verizon firmware etc (never done anything special w/ it) and the function the same. Just a few skin differences where Verizon has added extra stuff to mine AFAIK.
I've purchased an unlocked Verizon S7 Edge, model SM-G935V, but haven't received it yet. I'm an AT&T customer. The phone should work on AT&T's network since it's unlocked, but I just realized it'll probably still have Verizon-ified firmware, and might not work with certain AT&T-specific features like HD voice, video calling, or voicemail. How will the Verizon firmware behave when it's on the AT&T network? Can I install the latest AT&T firmware on this phone instead, using a similar method to what people are doing for the 935U firmware? I prefer a stock AT&T firmware rather than a beta or rooting. Thanks in advance!
There's another thread in this forum "Stock Firmware for SM-935A (AT&T)". Should I just flash that to my unlocked SM-935V, and essentially turn it into a 935A? I believe the hardware of all S7 Edge models is identical, so I'm hoping that will work.
I did this and applied the 7.0 update - and now I can't seem to revert to any other software. If I were you, I'd flash the U update and forget about carrier-specific garbage.

Thanks. Did you have any problems getting LTE data to work with your 935V once it was on the AT&T network? I saw a few mentions from people saying they could only get slower data connections, until they called AT&T to "provision LTE for their SIM" or something. I get the impression it's not enough just to have an AT&T SIM card - like the AT&T network has a registry of phone IDs, and non-AT&T branded phones won't be in it, and so won't get LTE data.
From browsing the 935U thread, it sounds like that firmware is receiving updates much more slowly than the carrier-specific firmwares. The U firmware also wouldn't provide the missing AT&T-specific features I was looking for, like HD voice or WiFi calling, so I'm not convinced it would really be an improvement over just keeping the Verizon fw. But maybe I'll feel differently once I actually get my hands on the phone and play with it - all I'm doing now is reading forum threads and checking my mailbox.
Honestly couldn't tell you. I'm on Verizon with my main device (S7e on U FW). I only flashed the AT&T FW (PK1) so I could flash the unreleased Nougat files.
Now, I can't seem to flash anything but an AT&T rom.
Also FWIW, the U firmware is getting updates slower than carrier roms, but it's still the better rom - untouched by the carrier's bumbling idiot of a dev team, no pre-loaded carrier junk you can't get rid of (only disable), better battery life and better performance.
More FWIW, I don't care about HD Voice or Wifi calling - both those are irrelevant to me.
At&t release today on 2/17/17 official update to Nougat 7.0 build BQA6 with February security.

I've got my phone working now. The short answer is yes, as far as I've found, you can flash any carrier's firmware to your S7 Edge. There may be some limitations if the bootloader version on your phone is different from the new firmware's bootloader version, but fortunately I didn't run into that. I went from the Verizon firmware to the AT&T firmware and then to the unbranded 935U firmware.
But for best results, a branded S7 Edge should be used with the same branded firmware, and on the same network. Otherwise you may run into some problems, or certain carrier-specific features won't work. In my case, my Verizon-branded S7 Edge is unable to get Wifi calling and HD Voice (aka VoLTE) on the AT&T network with an AT&T SIM card, no matter what firmware version I use.

So you did the opposite direction of what I did? I've read that AT&T is more restrictive about these features than some other carriers, which is maybe why it didn't work for me. I can't find it now, but there was an AT&T community forums thread in which a rep straight-out said that those features won't work on a non-AT&T-branded phone or other unlocked "bring your own device" phone.
To be fair, I'm not certain HD Voice isn't working, since there doesn't seem be a definitive way to test for it. With the AT&T firmware, attempting to turn on wifi calling would give me an error saying it couldn't be activated on my device. With the unbranded 935U firmware and an AT&T SIM card installed, I don't even see an option for turning on wifi calling.

I have heard that Samsung S7 edge on Verizon is by default GSM SIM unlocked. Is this correct ? dont we have to do any unlock or similar process to allow GSM sim cards to work from other carriers both domestic and international. Any limitations on this compared to a truly unlocked phone when talking of GSM/LTE features only ?

Yes bro! It is unlocked in default. I am staying in India. I have imported s7 edge sm-g935v. It is now on android 7.p. But problem is, it has Verizon bloatware, Verizon apps, Verizon boot up logo, also say sin card is not from Verizon when I use local GSM sim card.
All the calls, messages, work perfectly. Problem is mobile data don't work properly. I tried setting internet configuration manually. Play store and apps work. But browsing internet on any browser don't work.
Let me know if there is any way to use firmware completely free from Verizon. It's annoying man!

I have heard the same, but I got S7 Edge from Verizon and is not unlocked...
so I heard this as well and randomly while giving payment asked them if I could have the 4 digit code to unlock... 5 mins latter I had code and on way it was really pretty easy =)

To remove the bloatware just install the Stock 935U firmware. That will remove all the verizon bloatware. Not to sure about the unlocking. I have heard both versions, that is GSM unlocked by default and it is locked and cannot be used on any other GSM network either.
So i have s7 edge verizon and i am currently in india. i got a vodafone sim card and it was working but the network wasn't stable. all of a sudden i cant access any network on the phone but when i insert a sim card i brought along fro africa i get roaming network.. can anyone assist? thank you

I have a SM-G935V (S7 EDGE VERIZON) USA. This is what I did, I put the Sim card in another phone (T-mobile) S7 edge, then copied the APN Network verbatim. Put the Sim back into my Verizon phone and been doing ok for almost 2yrs. The data does drop when you make or recieve a call or text message. Service is very spotty, majority of the time. If anyone knows if there is a stable rom for this situation, please let me know, I'm still on pb5

Verizon models lock out certain LTE bands from use that the network does not use, simply flashing the G935U firmware would be the best bet as it will unlock all available bands and remove all the Verizon carrier bloatware. When i first had my Verizon S7 G930V i was not able to get band 12 on T-Mobile, now that i flashed the G930U firmware i get all the bands and carrier aggregation i wasn't able to before. Same goes for the G935V and U models.

yes I Did The Same for my S7 edge. But now I cant update without The phone Rebooting after 60 seconds or so... Now I'm stuck on 6.0.1

I just used my SM-G935V in Japan with a Y!Mobile SIM card for 6 months with 0 issues. Granted, I only used it for data, but it worked exactly as I would have expected. We did have to manually input the APN info, but the Y!Mobile sales associate helped me out with it.

I'm getting updates fine on both s7 and s7 edge, i have the latest March patch as well.
i had the same problems with verizon's s7 edge in dominican republic. pop up messages told me it's not a verizon sim card and data and internet would not work. then I downloaded sm-g935U international, carrier-less rom and installed it on my phone. all of the sudden my phone became a generic s7edge phone without the verizon crap apps. no more pop up and everything worked fine right from the beginning. data and internet work flawlessly and phone became a super phone.
Love my s7 edge.
Would you know if flashing the g935U firmware would also add LTE bands 12 and 17? I want the phone to be more
compatible with AT&T. Band 17 LTE is used in my area. My Verizon Galaxy S7 Edge G935V is at Android 8.0

I have the Verizon S7 Edge G935V. I want it to have more AT&T bands as it currently lacks band 12. When you say flash with the G935U firmware I noticed there are several versions for different carriers.
Would you mean flash the 935U firmware associated with AT&T? Or would I flash the verizon version of 935U? I am guessing the AT&T 935U for more AT&T bands, ??

Yes bro! It is unlocked in default. I am staying in India. I have imported s7 edge sm-g935v. It is now on android 7.p. But problem is, it has Verizon bloatware, Verizon apps, Verizon boot up logo, also say sin card is not from Verizon when I use local GSM sim card.
All the calls, messages, work perfectly. Problem is mobile data don't work properly. I tried setting internet configuration manually. Play store and apps work. But browsing internet on any browser don't work.
Let me know if there is any way to use firmware completely free from Verizon. It's annoying man!

Verizon models lock out certain LTE bands from use that the network does not use, simply flashing the G935U firmware would be the best bet as it will unlock all available bands and remove all the Verizon carrier bloatware. When i first had my Verizon S7 G930V i was not able to get band 12 on T-Mobile, now that i flashed the G930U firmware i get all the bands and carrier aggregation i wasn't able to before. Same goes for the G935V and U models.

I have this same question. My son has my old SM-G935V bought from Verizon, but it hasn't been connected to any service. I'm looking to connect it now that he's older, but I'm not paying the $XX /m Verizon wants to add a line for my kid, so I'm looking at Mint Mobile @ $15/m. I found these U firmwares:

UPDATE: Nevermind, I went with the T-mobile marked ROM and it worked flawlessly, at leas to connect to Mint, the service itself is garbage though so I'm going to try ATT ROM with Boost next.
I got the official Oreo on the u firmware, does anyone else have it and what are your thoughts i.e. Battery and screen on time, it seems a little faster to me.

I just flashed the stock Oreo G935UUEU4CRG2 firmware (Vzw) today. I will run it bone stock for a week and report back. I should be able to tell if there's a significant difference in battery life and performance from the stock V firmware because I've never rooted my S7 edge and have run the stock Verizon firmware since new. With this Oreo U firmware, I do hate how Samsung Pay has that quick launch edge feature at the bottom of the homescreen that can't be removed.
I am very interested in the U version of the firmware . I have the Verizon Galaxy S7 Edge G935V w/ Android 8.0 but use it on Straight Talk with their AT&T sim card.
I had to change it from CDMA to GSM, also had to add a new APN for Straight talk.
It works but the phone is missing LTE bands 12 and 17. Band 17 is used in my area and without it the phone connects
to a different band and its weak in my area.
I am trying to learn if I can put the G935U (AT&T) firmware on the G935V and will I get band 17.
I know band 17 is in my area because of my previous phone of a week ago, Nexus 5.
Would you know if it can be done, and where would I find recent info how to do this
along with what bands and features would be offered or not available.

On my G935V, flashed with U Nougat firmware I have received the Oreo U upgrade.
It works great, the only issue is that it reverted the LTE bands to the typical V version bands. I had to re-activate the other LTE bands, just because... I can. My provider is still a Verizon MVNO, and VoLTE is working.
What I like about the Oreo is the Bluetooth codecs - besides the aptX and Samsung HD (UHQ) now Google provided native support for LDAC (Sony). I couldn't wait to get that, because I really wanted my Sony's MDR-1ABT headphones to be used in their full glory (LDAC codec).
PS: To appreciate the quality difference you need to listen to FLAC files.

Ken, first check out the supported bands between the Verizon and the AT&T S7 edge in the link below. It will confirm the discrepancy in supported bands between the two models.

Then go to this link and download, extract and Odin flash the AT&T "U" firmware and see if that will open up the AT&T bands for your Verizon S7 edge. It very well might. I think you should also choose the option in Odin to "Clear EFS" before you flash so that it can be rewritten fresh upon bootup with your AT&T sim card. Do this and report back your results. Good luck.

I did he A/B comparison and both phones seem to be identical except for the band coverage. The AT&T has band 12 which from my reading
is 700MHz and it includes the segment band 17 has so if I understand it right if I have band 12 I should be in good shape.
It also seems to have all the bands of the 935V except for band 13. The 935A has actually more bands of coverage.
Could you clear something up for me. Once I do this I am reading I can't go back to the Version S7 Edge G935V.
However would I be able to convert it to one of the other carriers like T-mobile ?

Yes you can go back to the stock verizon firmware.
There's two csc files in the firmware pack CSC_HOME will not wipe everything and the regular CSC wipes everything. You need to choose the regular CSC so it wipes everything. So backup your internal storage if needed. You may or may not need to manually enter your straight talk APN. Your SIM and APN should be detected upon first boot. Just make sure you choose the regular CSC file and not the CSC_HOME. You want to wipe everything and start fresh. If your APN doesn't automatically populate after flashing the rom then enter it manually. You should have no problems with this version of the U firmware.
G935V to G935U (AT&T)
If its written I have not found it yet but it would be nice to have a before and after as far as what you will gain and what you will loose after the firmware flash. It would cut down
on all the follow up questions, especially for me.
After flashing, you said I can return to stock firmware. Its strange I am reading you cannot return due to a BL that will not be compatible anymore with the Verizon firmware.
The G935V has been taking updates when it was on Verizon. Will this continue after changing it from a G935V (Verizon) to a G935U (AT&T) while on Straight Talk with their AT&T sim?
Does this G935U (AT&T) flash change any specific characteristics of the phone like its serial number and model #? I ask because the Samsung Smart Switch program besides
backing up your phone can also return it to stock (in case something corrupts it) and I am wondering if I give it the current serial# and model number G935V, will there be any problems since its model number firmware will be different.
I was advised when using ODIN under "Options" to check "Phone EFS Clear" . Does this still sound right. All other settings should stay as is.

The phone called G935U has several more bands than the 935A (AT&T). Would this be a different G935U flash as compared
to the G935U (AT&T) ? If so would that not be the firmware to go with? It covers CDMA as well as GSM with the extra GSM bands.
This would be very similar to my G935V which offers CDMA and GSM.
Do I have it right NO CDMA capabilities on the G935U (AT&T) firmware?

G935U Product Code USC vs. G935U (AT&T
Last night I flashed my G935U. It took 3 tries with the 3rd working after switching to a different ODIN reversion.
The phone works fine, no issues except I am disappointed I lost all the CDMA capabilities should I want to try straight talk with a Verizon sim.
After I flashed the file from the updato.com site I searched and found another G935U with Product Code USC. USA

A little more research and I found this is the unbranded version (correct me if I am wrong) The unbranded version appears
to retain CDMA plus have more GSM bands than the G935U (AT&T)
Could anyone offer some details on this firmware and could I have flashed this instead of the G935U (AT&T) to have retained
the CDMA and get more GSM bands.

In my experience flashing another version will not add the bands. My case - I have flashed the "U" version on my "V" branded S7 Edge and the bands remained for Verizon. The modem firmware will read something that is flashed in the modem hardware and activate only those bands. There is a way to force other bands (see below).
More so, having the "U" Nougat, with modded LTE bands, I got the "U" Oreo upgrade from Samsung. After the upgrade to the "U" Oreo, the LTE bands reverted to the "V" ones (I had to re-enable them again).
I did "force" in the NV the new bands on my V using QPST and QXD professional Qualcomm tools, but since I don't really have a T-Mobile SIM I can't verify if the change works or it is something hardware (like RF amps) that is really missing.

The stock value for the "V" hardware, in the NV cell #6828 is 4190. That corresponds to LTE bands 2,3,4,5,7,13 (check with the LTE calculator).
I have changed the value to 2062440470751 that corresponds to bands 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,12,13,20,25,26,29,30,38,39,40,41 (close to what U would have natively). Again, I couldn't test if the software change is sufficient for them to actually work, but I have a feeling it does not.
When I traveled recently to EU, I have used cellmapper to check the LTE bands. I never saw B20, even if, on the map of that country, B20 was available in that rural location. I had only 3G.

I just flashed my phone with the G935U (AT&T) and although it works fine with no AT&T bloatware it is missing
some of the GSM bands of the G935U (Left picture) and all of the CDMA bands.

G935U with Product Code USC is the "U.S. Cellular" network. I believe the way it works is the software will use the installed SIM to configure the network compatibility mode that will be available in network settings. The true "U" model of the S7 edge will have hard coded support for whichever bands samsung determines for that model number. The different versions of the "U" firmware are specific for whichever carrier/network the phone will be used on. I'm not sure which firmware would allow both GSM and CDMA networks to function simultaneously, but there is an app in google Play store called "network mode" and you could give it a try and see if it will open up simultaneous GSM/CDMA support in your network settings. I do know that Sprint's firmware does have GSM and CDMA support and I'm familiar with that because I have had sprint for nearly 10 years and have a lot of experience with the samsung software as I've built several ROM's including port ROM's over the past few years. Try the Sprint "XAS" firmware. That's the global version.
