Hi all,
I bought G6 a few days ago(was using G2 3 years) and i noticed that phone lag/stutter so much while i scroll in instagram, chrome and every app where you can scroll. Also the stuttering is very noticeable in settings/apps,when i scroll down through list of apps. Opening and closing apps is fine, multitasking is fine but when it comes to scrolling (especially in instagram) the phone lags pretty much. It is really strange becouse even my g2 dont have problems with scrolling and fps drops. I tried force gpu rendering in developers options , tried disabling hw overlays and still didnt help. Tried hard reset on oreo - didnt help,Installed fulmics rom, melina kernel, but the problem still persist. It is really frustrating that this phone has such fps drops when scrolling..
Does anyone has such problems? I really need help, and i am really disappointed in this phone. Thanks

Hello!
This doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere, I've noticed since day one that when I'm scrolling really slow, e.g. between homescreens, in the twitter app or browser or anywhere, it is choppy and moves several pixels each step giving a jerky feel to it. Today I connected a mouse via USBOTG to see if it was the same but it's a huge difference and scrolling really slow is 100% smooth. So my conclusion is that it must be related to the digitizer. Can it be a driver issue or is the digitizer defective? When doing normal fast sweeps it's as smooth as project butter should be, but in a lot of situations you do slow scrolling, and it doesn't look nice. Someone might say this is nothing, but I'm picky with things like this, I hate jitter. Any ideas?
I have that issue as well, it does not happen all the time but when it does i get annoyed, stock rom, and kernel. i just closed my setting and it was butter smooth again.

stock here as well. but for me it is constant, but only when scrolling really slow. It's like every step moves icons, text and whatnot about 5-10 pixels instead of 1. I haven't tried a factory reset yet.
While it was choppy, I checked all running services, syncing application, removed widgets and nothing worked. Very odd.......
yes very odd. do you have the time to install this app?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...SwxLDEsIm9yZy5waWVycmUuaW5wdXRiZW5jaG1hcmsiXQ..
it's an app to measure touch input values. click on "Touch" and see what your average touch frequency is when moving your finger really slow. On mine it is around 8-10 Hz, and around 60 Hz when moving in normal speed. I have never owned a tablet before so I don't know if this is normal, but maybe it is. But I guess this is what causes the jerky feel when scrolling slowly, because of the frequency getting so low. Maybe that's how digitizers work.
Edit: I couldn't test this on my galaxy SIII yesterday as it was drained but today I did and I don't get lower than 25 Hz when scrolling as slow as I can, and on my SIII it isn't at all jerky.
hello,
i'm getting crazy with this annoying micro stuttering and occasional lagging. it's happening everywhere - home screens, app drawer, settings, apps like xda and tapatalk. it's not major, but it's enough to be seen and to drive me nuts. i tried stock KK, Cloudy stock 2.5 and Cloudy G3. i also tried several kernels - stock, bruce Kernel and Dorimanx. i also tried tons of different settings for cpu governor and hotplugging; i tried the lag mod which have to remove the scrolling lag - it seams that nothing is helping. i tried with and without Greenify (to avoid a lot of resident apps), i also tried both Dalvik and Art - nothing. the slight lag is there - and it's just that - slight stutter, few frames dropped - enough to make you think that some setting will kill it finally. but no matter what i try, that slight lag and stutter is still there. can you give me some suggestions - i'm coming from Galaxy S3, which i used with Beanstalk rom - i experienced 0 lag and stutter and i cannot believe that i see that in a phone like the G2, given the powerful processor and the 2 gb of ram.
please help me not to get insane with that phone

I've only got 550mb of ram free and my phones flying. Not even a little bit of lag. But for the first week or so after re flashing the stock Rom I did get all that lag you were describing. Even after I debloated, flashed Bruce's and did every other mod you can think of. It ended up going away on it's own after a while. Maybe you just need to stick with one setup and let your phone settle.
You can use beanstalk on the g2 as well, if you were interested in going that route again.
I have the same issue. In games it lags and stutters just enough to put you off the game. I have noticed some videos do this as well like youtube. I am still testing this but I am reluctant to spend any time on it as it has a clear issue when other lower spec'd phones run the same games fine. Basic games as well. It is subtle, but the stutter is there. On some games it's can even be a full 1 or 2 second complete lag and game halt. I tried the CPU throttle option in hidden menus and this did nothing.
Can this be hardware problem? I phone LG and the support agent was extremely unhelpful. He said that it would be sent for repair and they will not play games, only flash it and run a test. I'm concerned this will be a classic case of "there was no fault found" and it will be a complete saga for ages. I already had this before with a different phone (different problem) and I'm fed up with phone problems.
Mine is from Vodafone UK store bought. I am tempted to try stock UK firmware to see if this fixes. Shouldn't have to though.... I also might end up trying a custom ROM to see if it goes away. I absolutely love the phone otherwise. I just want it to work.
PS: It runs benchmarks fine with high scores.
Hey guys so I currently have the att lg v20 h910 model I believe and I'm having some issues I'm sure theres a bunch of threads on this already but thought i would just ask. So it's lagging pretty bad In my opinion I love the phone and the specs but I do not understand why it's lagging for what i paid. Coming from mostly iPhones and jailbreaking I'm not really used to android but I damn well love the fact that I can do everything on stock android that I cant do on a stock iPhone basically the Android can do more at stock than basically a jailbroken iPhone can do which is crazy. So the lag I'm experiencing is mostly in YouTube app basically the video will pause but the sound keeps playing so the video is actually playing but the picture that's on the screen is paused and camera which is extremely laggy sometimes I'll open the camera app and it will be shaky and when I move the camera around its blurry and looks like straight up pixels lol looks laggy when moving the camera. sometimes it can be on the home screen randomly sometimes it flys which is weird I don't have alot of apps on here also and I currently do not have a SD card I know this sounds stupid to you guys but remember I'm coming from iPhone... So does a SD card improve performance? Does it get rid of the lag or something? I also would like to note I don't mind rooting as long as it fixes the freaking lag.. Also my device is not a bad apple out of the bunch I actually got a replacement of the same phone from att they logged into my phone and saw the lag sent me the same device and they new device was doing the exact same thing the old device was so I sent back the new one and kept the old bc I have all my apps up here. Any help would be greatly appreciated because I just want to enjoy my phone =(. And sorry for the long post.
Settings/Developer Options/Tick on "Force GPU Rendering" this should make this beast smoother/snappier" If root available try L Speed/Entropy/fstrim apps found on Play Store! LG V20 & LG G5 are snappy beasts, well optimised with Snapdragon 820 processor and is better than Samsung.
No SD card doesn't slow or lag a powerful phone like the amazing V20, I have tons of storage since I use a 128 GB micro SD and no issues.
What class is your sdcard (if any)? I've found that a slow sdcard can have some terrible effects on performance, in fact this has been an excuse to remove external memory support on some phones by the developers because they tend to be significantly slower than the internal memory.
I have Spotify and the storage set to external on a class 10 cars and there is noticeable lag in the program compared to other programs. It lags just as much as it did on my v10 other programs do not exhibit this behavior.
Also as much as I hate Apple they make some incredibly fast processors and in general their processors are faster than Qualcomm's processors. Still in day to day operations this shouldn't be noticeable and there shouldn't be lag on the v20 as you're describing.
I am running non-rooted and do not experience this lag. If you want to try force GPU rendering you have to enable developer options you can do this by:
- going to settings, go to about phone
- tap software version, tap build number (7 times I believe) you'll be told developer mode enabled or something to that extent
- now go back to settings you'll have a new developer option available
- scroll down until you find "Force GPU rendering", put a check, this may or may not smooth out your performance.
The theory is that this will force the GPU to take on more tasks freeing up the CPU for other tasks, essentially they share the load more.
Welcome to android, you'll be floored by the amount of stuff you can do on android that you can't do on iOS. You should check out some of the 3rd party launchers if you want some more customization to the look of android. I recommend ADW launcher 2.0, Action Launcher or Nova.
Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Battery pull, reinstall of app, clear cache; there are various options to remedy your issue. Try all of the suggested routes and see if it helps. Good luck.
Just pointing out he said he has no SD card...
The only lag I have experienced was with my stock messaging app. Typing lag was driving me crazy. Didn't seem to matter which keyboard I used.
I don't know if it's because I don't delete my texts or what but I switched to the Textra messaging app and the lag seems to be gone. (and I like the app better too!)
What you're experiencing definitely doesn't sound "normal".
You shouldn't have to change settings to get a smooth running phone.
It's strange that the replacement showed the same lag. Did you install any apps before testing for lag?
Seems like there could be an app causing this. I'm not really qualified to help except to say it's just not "normal" so I hope you can get it figured out!
Hey guys sorry for late message so yeah I sadly don't have a SD card I feel like I don't really need one I don't use that much data I can add that I use Spotify as well and I have over 2k songs easy I listen to alot of music lol. But I don't think that should make a huge difference in the speed maybe it does idk for sure though. So another extremely noob question can I root with no SD card? If so I'll probaly do it and use a different rom or something hopefully that will help. So enabling developer options with gpu rendering did not help sadly its basically the same performance seems like it. And yes I'm loving the android experience so far but I can say atm iPhone had way better performance as in speed and what not but hopefully if I can get this beast working right I'll be satisfied.

Yeah im thinking it could be a app on the phone but idk for sure and not really I actually tried it with factory reset a couple of weeks ago it was about the same experience... At just stock..
Alright guys quick update i actually just got my device rooted took like 2 freaking hours i kept running into issues anyways in the end it did get rooted but its basically acting the same... For instance when the phone cut on finally and finally starting to add all the information to setup my phone the menus were so laggy that it took me 10 mins just get through the setup process... and then on top of that i went into developer options and it froze up and had to reset settings application. I know that it said to do another adb reboot recovery after it finally started back for the first time into android and i did that... but its still extremely slow. And throughout out the setting up the phone process i naturally did not recover the apps from my old phone i wish there was a way to setup the phone just like it was before i rooted it.... I also would like to know what would be best option as far as mods and roms go... I have to have wifi calling as i have no signal in my house which is retarted... so wifi calling has to be on... thats about all i care about i dont need fm radio, or any of that other stuff. (edit) well i recently found out that i screwed up lol i rooted with dirty santa and i thought the wifi calling would only be screwed up with a custom rom boy was i wrong so the wifi calling doesnt work with rooting =( well im going to download the factory rom and reset it again lol.
I've parted ways with my s6 to get the g6. Hardware wise this would've been an improvement but at this moment I'm very disappointed. My phone can't even handle up updating apps in the background while watching something on mxplayer. It lags and most of the time my phone completely freezes. Does anyone have this problem to, or a solution?
Try Hard reseting the phone.
Settings/Developer Options/tick on "Force GPU Rendering" should make the beast smoother or snappier. If root available try L Speed/fstrim apps/Entropy found on Play Store! I guess the LG G6 is stuck on Android 7.0 at present, Android 7.1.2 might be smoother/faster or more optimized than 7.0
Already did the GPU thing. Did not help a bit. And there is no root available for this device.
My G6 lags a lot.. sometimes it takes 3-4 seconds to load an app after clicking on the icon. I notice it a lot while texting on whatsapp, when I click back to go to some other conversation it freezes and 3-4 seconds. Already tried the GPU thing. It is in fact enabled right now. No difference.
Guys, this might be a solution to the jittery slow finger scrolling that seems to be plaguing “some” PH1 devices.
Before I get flamed, please note I’m genuinely trying to help out this community. I don’t own an essential phone but i’d like to. I own a oneplus 3 and recently experienced exactly the same slow finger scroll jitteryness even though flick scrolling was pure butter. This began to happen on my device all of a sudden and I tried everything (and I mean EVERYTHING!) to get to the bottom of why normal scrolling lists etc was totally smooth but if you dragged your finger slowly to scroll it was horribly jittery or juddery. I even tried different kernels, GPU Rendering toggling etc etc etc. I finally got my slow finger scrolling back to being buttery smoooth again purely by chance.
I removed 2 apps that I had set “on” in accessibility settings. BAM! Slow scrolling changed immediately from horrible to smooth. Now I dont know if it was having both apps enabled in Accessibility settings or just one but I dont really care. All I know is that my phone responded immediately on making this change, no need for a reboot. Why did this make my phone slow scrolling lag? I’ve no idea. But, just to double check it was this I re-enabled the 2 apps in Accessibility settings and guess what, normal scrolling stayed buttery smooth but slow finger scrolling changed back to lumpy, jittery, almost like the text was vibrating as it scrolled on the screen.
I know some of you will think “WTF!” and so did I on discovering this. Why would this innocuous setting make a difference to scrolling???
Anyway, give this a try. I know my phone is different to yours but the way my phone went was exactly like the scrolling on the essential phone in the youtube videos floating around. Horrible!! Afterwards, my scrolling is back to pure butter in all scenarios.
I hope this solves the issue for you guys. Good luck and let me know if this works for you
p.s. just to be clear, my 2 apps were Nova launcher and Caller Name Talker. Setting both these to “off” did the trick for me. In your case I’d advise setting ANY apps you have “on” in Accessibility settings to “off”. If it doesn’t work immediately, try a reboot although my Oneplus 3 didn’t need a reboot :good:
Thanks for the tips!! Unfortunately I currently have Nova Launcher set to "off" in the accessibility settings and don't have the other app you're talking about. I still have the stutter
Good thing is, Essential said they do have a fix for it and will push it out in the next OTA this month

Well if they do manage to fix this issue then I will definitely buy one. Providing of course that they sort out any early batch quality control issues too. This is without doubt the most beautiful phone ever created.
Camera quality is not important to me but smoothness is my thing. Thats why I don’t buy Samsung/HTC/LG anymore. I’ve seen my brothers s7 edge and it’s a disgraceful stutter/lagfest compared to my Oneplus 3. I got fed up of trying to hone laggy “flagship” phones to be smoother years ago. Pure android or as close to it now for me.
Only totally smooth phones I’ve ever known are Nexus, Oneplus and Pixel phones. My current Oneplus 3 is the smoothest android experience Ive ever had upto now and although I was looking to upgrade in 2017 to something with a SD835 chip, nothing apart from Essential phone has perked my interest so far.
Good to know there's an OTA coming. Mine seems worse when I'm plugged in charging. Scrolling twitter it will freeze, then sometimes it jumps around opening links I never clicked on.
Also, anyone have trouble registering presses on the edge of phone? Any settings in the top right take about 4 or 5 presses to open.
The official fix is coming. Essential received a fix from Qualcomm and it will be included in Octobers second update, it also includes latest security patch
