I am looking to buy zenfone 2 ...2.3 gghz with 4 gigs ram
Is it a worth buy??
I am asking because i am spending my hard earned 20000 bucks for a flagship
...
Are the bugs like call drops and battery software related?
Is it a isssue that could be fixed? Or hardware?
Both hw and sw bug, really disturd your life, i suggest do not buy this zenbug 2

I really don't know what are yall talking about. Yes there's a battery drain that's characteristic of 5.0 but easily manageable. I can get 5h SoT without too much hassle, and no dropped calls. But hey, to each their own. [emoji1]

And that's why I don't let myself get carried away by what people say. Positively or negatively, I bought this phone 2 days after it dropped in Taiwan. Yeah saw some issues, mostly coming from and S3 on custom roms and me being a custom Rom maintainer myself. But I saw the potential that this Rom can have and with a few tweaks here and there, runs like a champ.

Read again, I'm saying that me switching from an S3 on custom Rom to Asus stock was a change and saw the issues first hand but nothing that could be fixed with a few tweaks.

Maybe you are a lucky man with a bug-less fone :good:. Apart from battery drain, my fone had broken the power button, sim card 1 slot error, and especially wrong battery calibration which many user experience here :

Really sad that you had a bad experience with the phone. Personally other than the battery drain and self inflicted errors, mine has been totally different.
i came from S3 too..and IMHO is, my ZF2 beats my S3 in all terms, except there's not much user/developer involvement yet..unlike S3, everyday there are new updates or release on custom rom/kernel.. we just have to pray for ASUS to unlock their bootloader.. and currently ZF2 is on android 5.0..altho its buggy, hopefully ASUS brings 5.1.1 update to it..

Alot of mixed reviews ..
I think i ll wait more ...
One plus one is great too
As someone who owns a gs6 edge and a HTC m9 I have to say the Zenfone is totally worth it. Battery life has been great compared to the other two, performance is fast and fluid, the camera is good, the screen is beautiful. I'm actually considering using the one I got at the launch event as my daily driver. Right now I use the edge as my DD with my m9 as a backup. At 299 you can't go wrong. You get the most bang for your buck. I was very skeptical about the Intel soc performance but so far I have zero complaints about it.
I am absolutely delighted with mine. Was on a very restricted budget (had to buy two, one for me and one for my wife) so only got the 550 but actually glad I did because I'm not fussed about NFC or having a few less sensors, I find the 720p screen an acceptable compromise, and the bang for the buck is phenomenal. Yeah, there are a few flaws or irritations, but nothing major for me. There's a great deal of satisfaction in having got so much for so little

Thanks for your reply ...
I know the chipset is very very fast ...
But there are people who are getting physically defective devices as well .. May be asus is bad at quality check?
Also dev support is a big question mark on intel sOc.? Because any company will stop the development for its old devices with passage of time ..
So we might not see next versions of android on zf2.
And it is difficult to live with the old stock rom throughout the time you own it ..
The present bugs might be fixed with ota updates... I GUESS :/

This is exactly my case too. The only thing I would add is the support from Asus does come. Everyone uses the phone differently and some bugs annoy more people than others, but for me it was the music playback stuttering when other apps were used, but that was fixed in today's update. Credit to Asus, they are fixing the issues.
One of the people who came from the s3, except I had the locked down Verizon version, so no roms for me.
This phone is 100% better in every way, and I'm absolutely delighted with it --- there's a few little software bugs I've noticed, but I doubt most people would notice them, and then there's the battery drain.
Even with the battery drain, I can't complain one bit about battery life, so I can't wait for 5.1!
I bought one...
I bought one based on several factors but here is one piece of info that most people should know prior to purchasing.
The 4g Ram 2.3Ghz Version is the only one that comes with the 18W charger!!! So the phone does get hot when it is below 60% charge due to the 9 Volt 2 Amp charging. After the phone reaches 60% it steps down the 5V 2A which will allow the phone to cool while still pumping in the juice at a fairly good rate.
The heat is an expected side effect of the massive flow of power into the battery.
My opinion on the subject... Keep the 18W charger in your car/purse/backpack/briefcase, and use a 5v 2A charger for everyday charging. :good:
Heat+Electronics=Bad things especially when it comes to batteries. :crying:

The phone and quickcharging implementation are designed around that... It's well-known that these accelerated charge solutions pump a lot of juice and ramp up the heat.

if ze550ml can work as iphone 6
Then I wonder 551 ml with 4 gigs of ram can work like future iphone 7 and 8
At 1/3 of price
Ok, this is a completely personal opinion. I'm normally a lurker in that I've used xda for years with various devices. However, never have I been more disappointed with a phone then with the zenfone 2. My decision to leave behind the device and android is simply on my experience.
For me I made the purchase whilst in Hong Kong. I moved to windows phone last year and couldn't fault it's speed, usage, memory management or battery life. My 1320 held a charge for days and days. Simply fab.
But whilst in HK I saw, numerous times, the advert for the zenfone 2. It looked good and with the 64gb and 4gb ram combo I just thought wow. So I went for a look and a play. It wasn't an impulse purchase, I took my time over a number of days, plus did my research on the device where reviews said it was a great flagship killer. Fantastic, plus the price in HK was great. So I got one. I added a zenwatch to accompany it.
But, and here's the rub for me. I've had this now for just under 2 months. Despite a large battery, 3000 mah, the sot is pathetic. I've read all the guides, have greenify, rooted the device, used boot manager and xposed, disabled and changed the wakelocks and alarms and its still pathetic. Most of all when you spend out on a device I feel strongly that you shouldn't need to do all of this just to get decent use out of it. The fact that the android OS is still a battery eater just baffles me. The speculation and promise of 5.1.1 just carries on, and whilst there now an abundance of customs coming out I must ask, why can't the manufacturers just listen to its market??!!
So, whilst many people will probably be haters and winner why I've posted this, simply I think those researching about this device should see this opinion. This is also from someone who used android for years, has used iOS and is no stranger to custom ROMs.
The zenfone 2 could be a winner. Emphasis on could. But it's system abuses the battery rather than showing what can be achieved. The camera is average, and on the whole has been a real disappointment.
In conclusion, I respect you all sticking by it, totally respect the devs for bringing cm, paranoid, slim and all the other customs to the device. I truly do. For me it just shouldn't be this way.
So I'm now going to run off, hide, and return once and for all to to windows phone.
Cheers.

Dude, i respect your opinion, but forgot something very important.
windows phone, Iphone, Android high gamma (samsung, sony, Lg) 600/1000 USD
Asus Zenfone2 299 USD
good luck !!!
Lumia 930, less cost than zenfone 2, let alone if I went 640xl.
But for me, buying a smart phone shouldn't need so much modding to make it work great.
IPhone. Been there once, never again. At the end of the day I don't need a million apps. I need my stable free, plus battery life so I can use my device for work and play. I can't get that on the zenfone I'm afraid, well not without a charger always in my pocket

Good luck! The Asus Zenfone 2 is one of the most confusing devices, I've come across. It's battery life has been receiving mixed reviews, and has been the main reason why I'm still waiting for 5.1 or CM12 beta to be released for it, before I buy. I read in one of the reviews that even for a single piece of zf2, the battery performance is not consistent. The delay in releasing 5.1 by Asus is also frustrating. x-(
i have no problem with battery, with normal usage no need charge during day. 2 sims, 4g always on and many social apps in background.
You can run win7, so more powerfull, more handy and battery life fantaztic compared to netbook and is only a chiper phone so what more?
When you invest on something and it doesn't give the required result, it really feels terrible. Right now, this is the situation with ZF2 users. But still, I have hope on ASUS that they will give 5.1.1 update soon. Hope for the Best!
Asus released zenfone max today 5000 milli amp battery, I am afraid this is their answer to battery usage, not 5.1.1
I wonder what all people, who complain about SOT in ZF2, do when they're screen is on.
But our mileage varies, I guess. Never had a problem with battery life with the ZF2.

I'm holding out hope for 5.1.1....but if we don't get it by September, mid to late, I'm going to take the hit, sell this, and get the Moto X Pure edition. Can't fault Asus with their continuous firmware updates, good on them for continuing to try. But with the constant news of major vulnerabilities in the various Android versions, I must have a device I know will be supported for a good long while, and Moto is now proving to be king with that regard.
Why people thinks is bad? now is summertime, in winter will not battery drain. If you work in cool place you will never expect battery issue...
Two day is not enough for a smart phone? How had to be supposed battery life? You say me that other smartphone is too long then zf2? Maybe 3 dayz?
Think people get a bit hung up on the battery life partly because of the way it is reporting it as android OS using a lot, rather than it actually being particularly bad. It certainly isn't fantastic battery life, and is quite variable depending how you use it, but I generally get through a day without recharging and get around 4 to 6 hours SOT. That's on performance mode with Max brightness too. Good enough, certainly better than my old iPhone 5 which used less juice when sleeping but drained fast when screen was on, especially texting, Facebook and camera. So I am OK with the zenfone (Mine is the 550 though). I also think general performance is satisfactory and the camera is passable. Considering the price, I don't think I can have any major complaints. I am still happily enjoying my zenfone everyday

You can if manufactures are thinking lol. Seriously, they could have used the Snapdragon 615 and kept the resolution the same for performance . Oh well at least it offers a better value (IMO) compared to the Moto G since it cost like $160.

Everyone is entitled to their choice, and I certainly won't fault you for your decision to leave the Zenfone 2 behind.
I'm not a fan of Windows Phone myself, but I will agree it's more efficient than Android, and runs smoother on lower-end hardware. For me though, it just doesn't have the selection of apps I prefer, nor the customization of Android.
Either way, your concerns with the Zenfone 2 are justified, and I can understand why you are getting rid of it. I personally love it, but then again I can live with the battery
Personally I share the same sentiments on the ZenFone 2. I came from an Xperia T2 ultra Dual. 6 inch 720p display kitkat and 3000mAH battery and I have to say ZenFone 2 sucks in the battery life department but is flawless operation just rocks. I would get 2 days of battery on a single charge on the T2 ultra with light usage but the phone froze once in a while. Now with the ZenFone 2 551 2gb 16gb, with a 3000 mAH battery i hardly get 8hrs of life on 1 charge. Am forced to look for quick charge 2.0 car charger and travel charger. I left home at 12pm with a full battery and made 3 calls of 10minutes max, replied to this forum and about 30 mins of browsing and 2 and half hrs later it's at 59% WTF!
If it were the Xperia i would have been at 95-90 % on battery.
On a positive side the ZenFone is a performer minus the battery life issue.

Never heard about someone succeeding to do it... Just lot of people willing to... The only solution I've heard about is chrooting linux distros... kinda dirty way to run an OS, in my opinion...
Not sure about anyone else but I've had no issues with mine either with battery or beat-up of lollipop (knock on wood). I've had tons of android phones and my last was the galaxy s5, this zf2 has exceeded all my expectations and the battery life is about the same as my s5. For the price, this phone packs a punch, if anyone wants the perfect phone then you'll probably be spending twice or three times the price and I'm sure you'll pick something wrong with that phone also but now it's an 800 dollar phone instead of 299 ?

Not natively, only in an emulator. Kind of like in vmware or virtualbox.
I currently have a Nextbit Robin and am looking for an upgrade. My biggest issue with the Robin is battery, so obviously this phone caught my eye with its cheap price, great specs, and huge battery. Is it worth it, especially with most of these devices being new in box for 200-?

Only if you're willing to run custom firmware, LeEco made the interface literally to sell "Chinese Netflix" and other LeEco services and it's as atrocious as that sounds.
Sent from my LEX727 using Tapatalk
Yeah, you'll probably want to flash Lineage or any other ROM on it if you're coming from the Robin, which is running actually good software compared to eUI. Even MIUI and EMUI are better than eUI, IMO. Just be careful where you buy the phone from, because you're buying a phone from an essentially dead company that has since left North America. You won't get a good warranty on any LeEco phone unless you're buying it from an official vendor (LeEco US, Flipkart, etc.)
If you want a phone similar to the Robin but with decent specs (let's face it, the 808 is a horrdenous chipset), get a Mi A1 (stock Android), or a G5S Plus if you're in the U.S. Both can be had for $200 USD or slightly more.

I'd pick something else besides Lineage, because kernel development and ROM optimization gives you better battery life on some other ROMs. If he's switching devices for battery life, Lineage will nix that quite a bit. I'm grateful that they are always first with a new android version though.

I completely understand where youre coming from, but to be 100% honest I definitely wouldn't go for that phone. I am perfectly fine with installing a custom ROM, because ATM it's the only way to be stable on the Robin. But as the person before you said, I'm not willing to get even less performance than my current device just for battery that lasts 3 days instead of 2. All I really need is a phone that can get 3rs of SOT with my usage, and my Robin can barely get 1.75 hours.
+I wouldnt be able to get the P2 in the first place, only supports 1 of T-Mobile's LTE bands, and the band it supports isn't widely available in my area.

Phones with good specs, cheap and big batteries... humm... and I want a beautiful girl, with good looks, and a big perfect round pack of batteries that stays young forever. But it doesnt exist. Why do you think that big companies doesnt make flagships with big batteries? Is bad for business. If such phone exist people would keep them longer and wouldn't buy new phones. So they make phones with small batteries. They die in less then 2 years and you would buy a new phone. Phones today even does't have changeble batteries.

I dont even know what are you talking about here. But le pro 3 IS cheap, last generation soc flagship, and huge battery.
le pro 3 is cheap, agree, last generation specs, no way, 2 generations behind, 835 and 845 that will come. huge battery? no. is a normal battery for a 5.5 inch phonein my oppinion. huge battery would mean 5-6-7000 mah. And don't forget the cherry, no support from manufactor. Even phones with really bad specs like 1 gb ram and some poor mtk soc and they have nougat or even programmed to oreo. I was stuck on my last phone a Lenovo many years with a kitcat and i really dont like companies that do hit and run. they sell you a good phone and forget about you and the support.

Its only your speculation so far, nothing constructive. Spec wise it IS last generation as i said, because only newer soc from qualcomm is 835, yes 845, 855 and so on will come, but as of this moment it is last generation. About battery again, it is big, huge whatever you call it, because no phone fom current flagships has such capacity, most 5.5 inchers range from 3000 to 3600, look at pixels, lg, galaxies and so on. Anyways this is pointless, cause all you do here is bash leeco, like you have some personal agenda against it. No one talked about after sales support or said it was important factor
I din't said that my le pro 3 is bad. But It has it's own good points, and bad points. When someone wants to buy it, it should know what are those points.
This brick has a huge battery. All curent flagships from Iphone to samsung and miaomi have small bateries. Le pro 3 has normal battery for a phone with snapdragon 821 and 5.5 screen.

If over 90% of smartphones this size have upto 3600mah batteries, then its not small, its industry standart, and if you have a bigger one, that means your battery is big, not normal. Just because some chinese crap has 6000 or 10000mah doesnt mean that 4000mah suddenly becomes only "normal".
Hold on a second, this may be a dumb question, but is the bootloader on the LEX727 unlockable?
Since I'm in the US and the 727 is the only model that supports all 3 of T-Mobile's bands, it's really my only option. I just dug up a old post that says the bootloader can't be unlocked, and if that's true it looks like I'll be getting a different phone.

It can be unlocked now. Out of the box it's locked but it's fairly simple to unlock after flashing a file...
Coming from the Robin is definitely a nice upgrade, X727 works great at TMO, all 3 bands plus wifi-calling, havent looked at VOLTE since I install PA, butl the custom ROMs available have some type of little issue mostly with audio, my USB cable gave me problems right out of the box. Choosing a new phone I'd definitely go 820/821 chipset or higher.
I am using one plus one from last 4 years. But after waiting long time I switched to one plus 6 as my daily driver here is video review for my personal use.

What do you think is it right thing I have done by upgrading? I personally feeling premium one after upgrading.
It's big YES from me...

Going to OnePlus 6? well good but isn't like the price difference as it was in the past, thinking of getting a nokia 7 plus to give my gf this phone, not that I have any issue with the phone, CarbonROM CR6.1(android 8.1) performs great but why not have twice the battery life if I can? ..plus the fact that my gf has a lenovo with a terrible mediatek cpu and only 8GB of storage - it's so slow

I think my next phone is google phone, I love the smooth on that which never find on any other phone even install AOSP on them. Only these phone can have that smoothess is Sony anh HTC but they dont have lastest and fastest android version and sercurity patch on their phone (U11 still stuck at 8.0 and Dec 2017 security patch). Even nokia phone power by android one is lag too. Now I only root to control battery charged level threshold to save battery life and increase volume step but in android P google increase volume step to 20 and thats fine to me, also accubattery can alert me when it charged to specific level so I think time to say goodbye to custom rom soon. You can see most active phone in stats lineage is old phone

I think to go for Oneplus 6 unless the Lenova Z5 releasing tomorrow is really a miracle.
If opt oneplus 6 I am confused which model - mirror or midnight ? , I read few articles on it but still unable to.I will use a case , but durability (both are glass though) and pure black is my thing , White one on the way but not for me.
Note : I have nexus 6 and Oneplus 1 - to know me.

I've been using the OPO since october 2014, and i'm very happy to announce that i'll move to the OP6. All i can say about the OPO is "what a great piece of technology", for four years i've never had a real issue with it or anything botherig me, and all of that thanks to this wonderful community of XDA. What can i say ,you've been keeping this phone alive so we don't have to change it each 1 or 2 years like other brand(i usually laugh at my friends changing their samsungs or HTCs or whatever) because it becomes laggy and buggy. Really what a phone to still perform as good as new in 2018 after 4 years, and i chose the OP6 in stead of other phones even if i found the S9 or the note8 at the same price with discounts just because of the community( despite the performance and the rest). After all they are only better than the OP6 in term of camera( that i don't use that much and the OP6 one is not bad after all) and the screen which i don't see the utility, because i prefer by faaar a usefull phone with a FHD screen than a laggy one after 2 years with QHD. Even if my phone is still good for another 1 year or more, i think it's time to switch, i will give it to my mother because i don't see the point of selling it( i prefer to put it in a drawer than to sell it for 100$ lool). And i prefer to choose this comunity because, unlike the other ones, this one is more active, and even when sometimes OP doesn't fix something, the community does.
I hope i've been usefull and helpful for some people these years and thank you aaallll for helping me when i needed help.
Even though i don't have the latest and greatest, My OPO with SultanROM is running good with only occasional hiccups. Waiting for some good offers to upgrade. OP6, Honor 10, Mi8, Discounted Pixel 2 XL in pipeline. If i wait too long till Pixel 3 get's released. Will move on to it. As of now, no pressure of upgrading at all.

Well I'm evaluating my options as my gf would need a new phone soon and I have a chance in getting something better(not that I'm not happy with 1+1 ..carbon rom makes me quite happy these days BUT why not have moaaaaar battery life? )
Xiaomi Mi 8 SE seems a great alternative BUT ...no B20 band support so it's a bust. Xiaomi Mi 8 is promissing but 6.21" display seems big and it's bigger than our phone although it has smaller bezels
Xiaomi Mi 8 SE with 5.88" and smaller dimensions would be amazing(SDM710) but that B20 band support is troublesome
..Still searching for anything that fit my needs while it won't exceed 300e mark
P.S. In order to achieve the best security if phone is lost, the bootloader should be locked - The coin always has two sides
I waited too long for the 6GB variant but my patience is at the end now. I recently got the Real Me 1 6GB/128 and that phone is pure bull**** in terms of software (kinda love stock os), crappy iOS looks, bad features like can't see battery sot, no unlock bootloader option for OPPO phones etc. I returned it back to Amazon.
I'm still waiting for the 6GB variant, I already had Redmi Note 5 pro so I wouldn't get that same device again, tired of miui and flashing roms so gave it to my bro.
Should I wait or get the 4GB? 6GB phone launch timeline was Mid June but I don't see it in next sale too. I know nobody knows that in real but I'm desperate to get a new phone. Help or suggestions please? Next phone is Mi A2 which will also be stock Android but no idea when it will be released.
I'm waiting too for the 6gb variant, read somewhere that they started production of the 6gb variant after announcing it, so I guess will take a while, I'm going for the 4gb variant this Thursday because can't wait any longer now!

agreed, I'd have taken realme1 in a heartbeat had it have unlockable bootloader or stock android out of the box.
I too know I'll regret not going for the high end model because the processor is weak and I'm coming from a snapdragon 820 so it'll feel slow for sure, atleast 6gb ram would be a good thing if I could get it

Wait for the 6GB version. I have a 3 GB version and am regretting the buy. The software is down right pathetic and buggy. There are stutters all over, its super laggy. I mean, its to the point of being disgusting. The cameras are beyond pathetic. I heard they have a different module on the 6gb version. Also the battery is crappy. The launcher is ****load of crap. And their official forum "zentalk" is well....crap!! I mean, spend your money some where else if you can or wait for the release of Lenovo z5 or Mi8 SE. Telling you guys, dont buy this piece of junk.
Also, My main driver is the OP6, so I suppose this brick's performance comes out even ****tier. Sad part is cashify does not give on offer for this paper weight and for selling on ebay, you require GSTIN. My two cents......Stay away from ASUS only.

That's a very strong review of the phone. I have been using it for more than a month ago and while it doesn't compare to the fastness and quality of the OP6, the Zenfone Pro M1 is a remarkable phone.. The software is definitely not buggy or lagging, the cameras are definitely good in this price range (maybe the front camera is not upto the mark), battery is defintely good giving about 10 hours SOT/2days moderate use. ZENtalk is definitely crap - that's why we have XDA and the launcher can always be replaced with NOVA or LAWNCHAIR. Either you have got a defective phone or you are just trying to bad mouth a very good value for money phone.

Stop being a fanboy, no good comes out of such an attitude. And stop making these insinuations. If you don't agree then say so and leave it at that. Now coming back to the point. Its not remarkable, its down right pathetic. It stutters everywhere except the App drawer. Gosh even the dialer stutters. The google cards stutter,Facebook....don't even get me started on that. Cameras are pathetic and nothing can improve that situation, not even GCAM. It can certainly make it it better but to a limited extent. The battery is not optomized at all. SOT is around 7-8 hours on avg, but the question, that quite pathetic from a 5000 Mah battery. Finger print and Face Unlock is also pathetic and it speaks volume that they had to release three updates to make it work and still can't get them to work properly. My two cent. take it or leave it.

I think the same, it seems they just fake promised the 6GB model. Anyway, I got Redmi Note 5 pro in the meantime back from my cousin ( just unlocked the bootloader and will flash custom rom to get rid of MIUI) will use it till Asus releases the 6GB version if EVER in future. I think I will be old, get married and couple of kids waiting for this phone.

Don't blame Asus, blame Android. Even my Google pixel 2 XL sometimes take blind pictures cause of ram issues or reload apps. I can feel your pain, anything below 4GB ram is unacceptable in today's standard. That's one of the reason I'm waiting for 6GB variant.
I'm actually sold for a 15k phone with near about stock Android. If there's Mi A2 by Xiaomi before Asus releasing it, I will forget Asus and buy that phone.
