So I am having huge problems with the gallery app of my new Galaxy S4. Whenever I start the gallery app, I see only see the action bar and a black screen and it takes up to 5 seconds until I see the folders with the pictures and when I click on an album, it might take more than one minute to show me the contents, which usually is just a black picture. So not even really the contents.
I tried deleting the gallery data, but It is always the same after I fire up the app. Either something is broken with my phone or the gallery app. I have the MDM Firmware (rooted).
Okay disabled dropbox integration in gallery and now everything works fine, but still very annoying to find out whats wrong

Same issue with mine.
Definite bug with the gallery. Hope Sammy fixes this soon
same here !!!!
I am very upset first the "smearing" then.... the "gallery bug"
I don't know what is going on with my gallery but it's really weird. A little back story. I was originally rooted and running 4.2.2 stock but I then I saw that 4.3 was out so I used the nexus root toolkit to go back to stock, reset, apply 4.3 update, and then re-root. I also used the picture backup utility in the toolkit to backup my photos, but it didn't work and none of them were restored. After I was on 4.3, I installed the CM camera app, focal. However, when I took pictures with the app and went into my gallery and scrolled to the picture I just took it would show the picture briefly and then do a pixelated transition into one of my old pictures and the new pic was nowhere to be seen. I uninstalled the app and haven't had a problem since. Up until today. I tried to download a picture off of Google images and when I go into my gallery to see it, it isn't there. Instead, there is a picture from my gallery pre factory reset and flash of 4.3. It's almost like the pictures I'm downloading are being replaced by the ones I tried to backup and restore. When I finally got a Google image to download and save to my gallery, I'll scroll over to it and it will do the weird pixel transition into an old picture I had before I wiped. Anyone know what's happening? Or even what I'm trying to say? Thanks for any help.
try clear data and cache of gallery and camera and check again

After wiping the cache, I tried to go to gallery and got a message saying "no external storage." Rebooted and everything is working awesome. Thanks for taking the time to respond.
A lot of us get that error after clearing cache. A simple reboot takes care of that

I installed force fast scroll on my galaxy s4 sph-l720 triforce rom (rooted) and now my app gallery does not load. I have installed quick pic for now. But when I get a pic from a friend in a text I can not click onto it to view it larger. Can an help me get my gallery working agian or make it possible for quick pic to open pictures in messaging? I have cleared data and cache in settings for gallery, rebooted phone, took battery out and then back in, uninstalled force fast scroll, and nothing has helped yet. Besides re-installing my rom can i uninstall gallery and re-install it somehow?
Thank you, Randy

all were inside the camera roll in the Camera.apk... this is super annoying.. any help?
You can put a .nomedia file in the folders you don't want to see in the gallery, as this article shows:

Thank you for the link, but it is not working!
In the camera app, the bottom right button will show the last image or video saved to the gallery. On the S6 Edge (and I think on Marshmallow), that button in the camera app used to show the pics taken by camera only. Is there a way now to do the same?
Thanks

I have the same problem, and I haven't found a solution yet
Use Google photos instead of "gallery".
But "gallery" will still be default app in the camera app.
The problem is with the camera app, not the gallery by itself. I think the camera app is linked to the wrong folder.
Well, today I talked with Samsung support and they told me to restore to factory settings, which I won't do because it came like this (I bought it 5 days ago).
This is too annoying, and I think we will have to live with it, because Samsung doesn't know how to fix it and doesn't seems to care about it neither.
In Gallery, choose Albums instead of Pictures. From there if you select Camera, then only your camera pics will display.

The problem isn't the gallery, is the camera app. When you check a photo that you just take (with the icon in the bottom right corner of the camera) and then you start looking the previous pictures, it'll be mixed with whatsapp, downloads and any other image you have in your phone, which doesn't make any sense.
The gallery by itself is ok.

No. it's the gallery app.
I'll explain. The camera app simply takes you to the Gallery app in an in-app shortcut.
You can get the same "bug" if you open the Gallery from your app drawer and go to "pictures " tab which will feature all the pictures on your device, including whatsapp or downloaded media.
So the Camera app simply takes you to the Gallery but to the wrong tab.
I disabled the Gallery app entirety and so the shortcut does not work for me - hitting it does nothing. If I want to see pictures taken with the camera while ignkring other media files i simply use Google Photos.
Why Google Photos specifically? It has the ability to create a link to Google Photos inside of Camera app.

Well, that's why I think it's a camera problem, it has the wrong shortcut.
But anyways, how did you disable the gallery? When I try the button is greyed and I can't do it. I'm using Google photos as a default viewer, but doesn't work within the camera. Do you have to root the phone?
Edited: I just found how to do it in the Google photo settings.

Nah no root required.
Use BK package disabler. You can disable any app including system apps with it. It uses Knox to have root like capabilities.
Thanks, I'll try with bk package disabler.
Any Update on this issue?
Did Samsung solve this issue yet? it is super annoying to see all photos from the camera roll viewer in camera app. Why should I see screenshots I've taken or a stupid Whatsapp pic sent by someone, when I'm viewing photos taken by camera, from the camera app?
Hi together,
I'm on OxygenOS 10.3.1 and I was wondering, why my screenshots are gone "after a while" which means I don't see them in the gallery app. Yesterday, I found out that this happens after a restart.
I checked storage and noticed that all screenshots are still available in /storage/emulated/0/Pictures/Screenshot but gallery app says 0 elements in screenshots. If I take a new one, gallery app shows only this new one, but on next restart this is gone in the app.
To sum up, all screenshots are available in the folder but gallery app only shows the screenshots taken during current OnOff cycle.
Any idea how to solve this?
Thanks
Daniel

Thanks for your response. There was only a .escheck.tmp file in the Pictures folder. In the parent folder of Pictures, but there was a .nomedia. After I opened Google Photo app, they are all back. By the way, also in Office Lense, where I had the same problem.
Thanks a lot.
