Ok so my g/f snapped like 6 pictures at an event she attended yesterday on her droid 2. She came home complaining the pictures weren't appearing in the gallery. I figured it was user error since she's new to the droid thing. I checked out the gallery and sure enough there was 6 gray squares in the place of the pictures. I rebooted and they were gone. Is this something that i should get a replacement over or what. I snapped a pic after the reboot and it was fine but i don't want her to have to wonder if the picture came out. There's also been a problem after she takes a pic it not appearing in the gallery right away. Just seems buggy any help or suggestions are appreciated.

Lmao exactly! We shouldn't have to roll the dice on losing special moments like that! Sux.

I had a similar problem, but I think it's distinct.
I discovered that deleting the photos through the file app (without a special file manager installed) doesn't instantly delete the thumbnails in the photo gallery, so it will act as if the photos are still there, and if you take new photos before it regenerates its thumbnail cache (or whatever it actually does), the new photos will error for a while too, until it straightens out once and for all which photos really exist and which don't.
Curiously, I too came across the error taking pictures of a chick's ass. Maybe there's a link here.
There is a problem where the gallery doesn't refresh. I heard that it will refresh within a few hours on its own or you have to reboot in order to see new pics in the gallery.
SDrescan from the market is a workaround. It rescans the SD card which refreshes the gallery.
I am having a gallery issue where I select a picture and and different picture loads. Sometimes from the same album or different album. Shutting down sometimes resolves the issue or a soft reset and sometimes it does not. Sometimes I have to go into USB mode and add or delete a picture for ot to work properly again. One time the images in my download album al appeared blurry. I downloaded a picture from my email and then they all appeared normal again. Anyone else have this gallery bug?

Another one of those mind boggling simple bugs in Gingerbread/Nexus S.
Yes, I've seen similar, in that if I take a picture, it often won't show in the gallery unless I open it via a file explorer app from the sdcard.
I haven't tried forcing a media scan manually (there are apps for that), to see if that addresses it.
The Nexus S feels much more like a BETA product (software wise) than I recall the Nexus 1 feeling.

I had this exact same problem. You have to delete all of the thumbnails for your photos so that they reload. The only thing is, the thumbnails are no longer stored in the DCIM folder like they were pre-Gingerbread. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly where they're stored - I used root explorer to find them and delete them.
/Android/data/
You will see a folder called 'com.cooliris.media' delete it. The gallery app will regenerate your album thumbs.

http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13419 Thanks.
I mean wth do we have to go through all that to see our pics... they took forever to fix the text issue they said they have a fix for which we haven't received. The fix for blurry mms is fixed thank god. Now this? Yeah the N1 did feel like a better product but the updates helped that one too. These are stupid things that shouldn't be an issue though.

This issue happens on and off; it's quite absurd. My pictures are once again not opening to the correct photos. As I've said before, it's stuff like this (among a slew of other issues and glitches) which make Gingerbread, and to some degree Android, feel like a second rate experience.
Has anyone also experienced that sometimes pictures aren't clear in the gallery? Often, the picture will come up unclear, but after a second, will be clear as it's meant to be. But sometimes the clarity doesn't happen.
Does it have anything to do with the internal memory or something again (similar to the random ringtone change issue)?
Is this yet another glitch of Android?
Edit: I should mention this is not the MMS issue which is often mentioned. I'm talking about regular photos that are taken with the Camera. Those sometimes don't clear up either.
Yeah, I get this too.
I wait until all the pics are done downloading from the SD card... then I pick the picture.

It happens to me randomly even long after the SD card has loaded.
Why is the gallery reader like this anyway, where it is blurry at first, then clear?
Promise you its not androids fault. You will never EVER have a phone with HTC SENSE do that.

My gallery just freezes when trying to load. Sometimes the newest downloaded or pictures just taken won't show up, its random.

The low res fade into higher res gallery quirk is more of a feature and is how the gallery always has shown photos even back on the nexus one. It allows quick flipping enough photos without having to insanely cache everything in full from the start. It only should take a second to flick over though.
I'm loving the nexus s gallery performance. I'm sorry to hear some aren't as thrilled.
One if the posters spoke about this stuff not happening in htc - that's rubbish, the 3d gallery acts the same there too, only worse, because oh the lack of hyper fast inand. And the htc gallery is rubbish, it struggles to even show thumbnails if you have too many pics. I speak from experience owning the desire hd, which is the most powerful htc phone to date.
The wrong photo issue is completely fixed by clearing the photo cache and then restarting the device. It didn't clear up until the restart, for some reason.
I have some issues with the gallery as well. But I must say that it performs 10X better then it did on my N1, it was sooo slow and laggy on that thing!!!
Get JustPictures! from the market, way better that Gallery3d imo, plus you can access your picasa, flickr, facebook, smugmug, etc pics from there as well.
Android Gallery sucks ... It just sucks. It does not display in high quality, 16 bits instead of 24 bits. You will see terrible color banding on gradient colors.
Google just lied when they told us everything is 32 bits on Android 2.3.
Nah, that's not true.
I hate that because HTC Sense gallery is much better.
Skip that 3D animation transition, it is an image gallery. Without high quality output, that's no good.
JustPictures is the same, it still display terrible color banding.

I'm very happy with the Gallery performance, and as has been said the low res image fading to high res is a feature of the Android gallery, it's always done that on every handset I've owned.
The gallery has it's share of quirks/bug in the NS version of it, but agreed with others, the fading is a design feature, not a bug.
Has anyone encountered the situation wherein even the application images are in your gallery?
we're supposed to have the top of the line google phone, yet my gallery takes foreever to open and lags all the time. its so damn frustrating to have to wait for like 20 seconds just to view a picture i just took. it worked just fine before the 3.2.2 update. it seems like the phone is getting worse with each update instead of better. GOOGLE fix the **** that we need to work instead of other stupid things that no one can use right now
i switched to quickpic https://market.android.com/details?id=com.alensw.PicFolder and never looked back. superfast and displays the picture with more detail whenyou zoom in.
I agree with quickpic. I made the mistake of removing gallery, only to find out later other programs needed it for some function other than displaying pictures.
yeah the 3d gallery is a fail imo. luckily there is quickpic. havent had any problems yet w/o gallery3d.apk

I think I had some error when trying to send a pic or video or sound recording with stock messaging. I'm guessing it uses it to convert SMS to mms.
I don't know if it can be done but it would be nice to have a setting to change file associations with. More than what can be done now.
Not sure if this is the right place to ask or maybe move it to the apps section if need be. Ever since I got the updated Gallery app through August update all my pictures seem to be imported automatically to it, what exactly do I mean by this? Whenever I launch the Camera app and scroll through my pictures through the app it shows all recent pictures on my phone, before the update it would only show pictures/videos taken through the camera app, I would like to keep it that way but haven't managed to revert it, any clues?
Wish I could answer, just installed the update and it's a disaster, what were they thinking, tiny thumbnails and you can't read the album names! Dark grey font on a black background... DOH
Sent from my S7 Edge
If you pinch out on the album view it will give you near enough the same view as before, only problem I have, as already stated, is the black text on dark grey background, although that's probably the themes fault.

So no one else lost the feature of scrolling through the in-app camera gallery and just having content taken with the camera? cause I really hate having to go through all my stuff there to find a picture I took.

No mine still works fine, although if I'm using the camera from the lock screen it will only let me scroll through the pictures I've just taken, not previous ones.

I wonder how I messed it all up lol. I just tried that way, running the app from the lockscreen and I still get every single picture on my phone.
Any Luck?
I am facing exactly the same issue.
All my screenshots, whatsapp, gallery pics and everything are populated in the gallery when I access through camera. This is highly annoying.
Earlier it was only camera pictures which were shown, is there anyway to fix this? Like installing the previous version or changing the access folder only to camera?

I found no solution, had to just deal with it. And I tried to somehow set the app to only access the Camera pictures when browsing through the camera app but no such luck.
Is this issue without any resolution yet? I know this have been posted a few months ago, I've searched everywhere but I didn't find any solution, did anyone else get some more luck than me?
all my photos, from Whatsapp, Telegram, downloaded from Chrome, Screenshots, GIF... etc etc..
all were inside the camera roll in the Camera.apk... this is super annoying.. any help?
You can put a .nomedia file in the folders you don't want to see in the gallery, as this article shows:

Thank you for the link, but it is not working!
In the camera app, the bottom right button will show the last image or video saved to the gallery. On the S6 Edge (and I think on Marshmallow), that button in the camera app used to show the pics taken by camera only. Is there a way now to do the same?
Thanks

I have the same problem, and I haven't found a solution yet
Use Google photos instead of "gallery".
But "gallery" will still be default app in the camera app.
The problem is with the camera app, not the gallery by itself. I think the camera app is linked to the wrong folder.
Well, today I talked with Samsung support and they told me to restore to factory settings, which I won't do because it came like this (I bought it 5 days ago).
This is too annoying, and I think we will have to live with it, because Samsung doesn't know how to fix it and doesn't seems to care about it neither.
In Gallery, choose Albums instead of Pictures. From there if you select Camera, then only your camera pics will display.

The problem isn't the gallery, is the camera app. When you check a photo that you just take (with the icon in the bottom right corner of the camera) and then you start looking the previous pictures, it'll be mixed with whatsapp, downloads and any other image you have in your phone, which doesn't make any sense.
The gallery by itself is ok.

No. it's the gallery app.
I'll explain. The camera app simply takes you to the Gallery app in an in-app shortcut.
You can get the same "bug" if you open the Gallery from your app drawer and go to "pictures " tab which will feature all the pictures on your device, including whatsapp or downloaded media.
So the Camera app simply takes you to the Gallery but to the wrong tab.
I disabled the Gallery app entirety and so the shortcut does not work for me - hitting it does nothing. If I want to see pictures taken with the camera while ignkring other media files i simply use Google Photos.
Why Google Photos specifically? It has the ability to create a link to Google Photos inside of Camera app.

Well, that's why I think it's a camera problem, it has the wrong shortcut.
But anyways, how did you disable the gallery? When I try the button is greyed and I can't do it. I'm using Google photos as a default viewer, but doesn't work within the camera. Do you have to root the phone?
Edited: I just found how to do it in the Google photo settings.

Nah no root required.
Use BK package disabler. You can disable any app including system apps with it. It uses Knox to have root like capabilities.
Thanks, I'll try with bk package disabler.
Any Update on this issue?
Did Samsung solve this issue yet? it is super annoying to see all photos from the camera roll viewer in camera app. Why should I see screenshots I've taken or a stupid Whatsapp pic sent by someone, when I'm viewing photos taken by camera, from the camera app?
