Why are all these roms so bad when it comes to Camera? Note 4 has a very good Camera on Toucwize, but i really can't live with that UI and outdated android 6.
I have tried many cameras on Play Store but none of them is near the stock Touchwize camera.
Any thoughts about why the camera is so bad if it works at all in some roms?
I don't blame developers for their free work, I rather appreciate it and can live with the free choice than the outdated Android.
My next phone will definitely not be a Samsung
Try Open Camera , you can get it on F-Droid. Works quite well.

Hi all
I have just got my shiny new i9095 and was wondering if there are any good AOSP roms about?
I used to run a nexus jb rom on my note, anything about like that?
Thanks all

Congratulations, you made a good choice getting the Galaxy S4.
I can't believe that after getting the top of the line cell phone you want to degrade it
by flashing a AOSP/AOKP/CM10 rom.
Just that you know if you flash a AOSP rom you will be degrading your camera, it will loose 1/2 of it's features
and the video you record or download will have hardly any volume while playing it back and blue tooth will not
work properly or not at all.
Even the user interface of the camera will look like some home made screen instead of a professional camera.
You will loose the ability to use both front and rear camera at the same time.
You will also loose all the Touchwiz Jellybean features found in the Jellybean 4.2.2 based roms including
voice control, Smart screen, Air view, ir blaster(tv ir remote control), s health, s memo, s translate, s voice
and many other features which make the S4 such an outstanding device.
Good luck with it.

I am not bothered about Camera features as I have a camera for taking pictures.
I dislike touchwiz, google voice control works well for me, and I use none of the S apps and find they just slow down the phone.
Each to their own however, which is why there are many people on here that make so many different roms!
I am also aware of the bugs in those types of roms at the moment, which is why I havent upgraded yet
Unless I'm missing it, or the flash of my ROM didn't work right, the google camera on my device from the pure nexus edition I flashed (http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...on-s4-t2837239 doesn't seem to have Slow Motion video capturing which I really would like to have .
Is there a way I could just get the old S4 camera to somehow work with the device? (I was googling for one but couldn't find one.) or I take it that was designed custom by samsung for their software? If not the default one that I had from stock, is there another one some of you recommend?

I don't think you can get it working on the google roms since it was made for the Touchwiz system. If you want to just tinker and try, you can try the S5 camera or the Note 3 camera but as far as I know they won't work.
Ah ok, Thanks Deadly for replying. That's a real shame, I don't like all the bloat that came with my AT&T S4, but the touchwiz camera does seem much better. I'll go look at one of the modified touchwiz ROMs available and try one of them.
Hey guys. Just installed android 5.0 on my N9005 32gb and although it works fine, haven't really found any bugs, there are things that annoy me. Firstly, even on L, I seem to still be on Dalvik Cache with no option to turn on ART (not even in developer options). Secondly, running it on UK, yet I do not have my keyboard symbols...rather unpleasant for me, to be honest.
Many things that were expected to have been in L i seem to not have ( seriously, still just ripple and watercolour lockscreens only?!)... i dont know, maybe I had too high expectations for it. But right now, especially without Xposed, i am not really impressed. What about your thoughts?
for me

im disappointing a little because samsung didnt update note 3 camera with s5 i like the fast focus and faster processing which s5 camera software have - i dont care about those gimmik selective focus or slow motion or whatever / the multi window seems not support all apps i tried install application which make all apps supported but nothing happen same thing happen to the pen window / i hate smart select in newer air command when i select a video it takes it as image not video like scarpbook was doing now i have to share link to scrapbook .
what i like =
my note become really fast and premium cause i love those white menu everywhere / they didnt make the button like s5 so we still get the menu button like note 3 / my magazine is still like note 3 instead of bad s5 or note 4 gimmik you just swipe up to open magazine / newer touchwiz launcher
so i feel like i dont want to downgrade samsung make a good move this time
The multuwindow seems like its still work in progress... i really like the floating windows, but to me it doesnt seem like i have access to them so easily.
As for the "premium" white theme, that is, in my opinion, the dumbest, most counterproductive thing that Samsung could do. With their great AMOLED screens to put white stuff everywhere?! Seriously? White, which consumes our battery the most? Black menus, in my opinion, not only do they look better, but upon some tests on 4.4, they increased my battery a hell damn lot. I do love the good old MyMagazine though, gotta admit, but other than that, there are so many things that they either did not include, or they miserably failed with (again, still Dalvik, on LOLLIPOP?!).
I am, by all means, unimpressed and quite fisappointed by what touchwiz has done to Android L
so.. nobody read is a "UNOFICIAL" leaked ?, update for N9005 is in 02/2015.,
@ op holy ****, does running dalvik mean xposed can run? did you try?
I for one am very pleased with this update. It brought the note 4 pen features, pulling windows from the corner works great and makes things easier, recents looks awesome, animations are beatiful and minimalistic.
This is the best Samsung update yet, without a doubt. It's like the Samsung team hired totally different people for designing touch wiz. The color scheme could be better but it's definetly heading towards the right direction.
That, and the small amount of time it took them to make this update happen, is proof that Samsung are finally changing their policy. Looks like the small sales of the s5 this year woke them up.
Well, @lvnatic, you do make a pretty strong case
Lets just hope the final version will bring even more good stuff to it, and then a dev to make us a black/dark mod of it so my eyes won't hurt
Hi, I am a new Note 4 user and I am totally happy with, except TW. I hate its look and feel and I am searching for an alternative.
I've always been a fan of CM. The main problem is that I need a perfectly working S-pen, that's the reason I bought N4 in the first place. I am also concerned about camera performance, if I switch to CM.
So, is there any way to have everything around S-pen (air command, S-memo etc) working absolutely perfectly on CM. Also, will I be able to have the same camera performance?
I'd greatly appreciate the opinions of Note 4 CM12.1 users who have actually achieved camera performance and perfect S-pen functionality. Thanks!
Most of the Spen functionality can be brought back by using the app 'Spen Command' you will have to Google it. Camera quality is almost identical. If you need better low light quality then you can get a custom camera from the CM12 thread.

I've been running LineageOS 18.1 for my S8 (SM-950FD) and it's been working fabulously ! However its stock camera is just not the best. I have tried other camera apps as well, like GCamera and Open Camera, but nothing is as close as Samsung stock camera. I chose not to go back to Samsung stock ROM because I love the experience of Android 11, while the original rom only supports till Android 9.
Is there any other Custom ROM than LineageOS that comes with a great camera app ?
There is Project Sakura (https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...5-1-official-monthly-updates-vanilla.4261403/). It is based on LineageOS 18.1 and has an integrated camera app called Footej Camera. Not the best name, but it feels a lot like the Stock Camera. I believe you can also download Footej from PlayStore but it probably costs a few pennies.
Good Luck on your Search!

Hi, thanks !
I have read the whole thread from Project Sakura that you provided, apparently there are issues with hotspot (not working) and camera itself (few people mentioned the camera just stucks after a while). But this ROM looks interesting, I'm gonna keep my eye on it and see its updates.
Well, the further custom roms move away from the stock rom, the more bugs appear. I'm surprised you have a working LOS 18.1, which one is that if I may ask?
You could check out ProCam X, it's in the Playstore. Great app with lots of features. Some people complain that the image quality is worse, but that's probably because they accidentally set the post-processing to low quality (NR).

I'm using LOS 18.1 from Stricted, check the first comment here. Yes, it's working surprisingly well, battery drains a little bit faster than using original stock ROM though, but everything works fine. I'm aware some people mention wifi / hotspot are problematic on their LOS 18.1, but I can use wifi & hotspot sharing just fine on my phone with this custom ROM from Stricted. They have September update for their ROM which I haven't tried because mine is already working well and I figured the camera quality would be the same anyway.
At this point, I'm focusing on looking for an alternative camera app, or waiting if someone would generously come with LOS 19 (Android 12) for S8, haha. In the meantime, I'll try your camera app recommendation, thanks !!
Thank you! I will check that out. One last thing comes to my mind. You probably know it already, but maybe you don't or anyone else is searching for a solution, so:
It is very important for high quality photos to activate the Camera2 API. It can simply be flashed and offers an interface for more complex camera controls. If the API is activated can be checked with this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.airbeat.device.inspector&hl=gsw&gl=US
If it misses, here is the zip file: https://www.cyanogenmods.org/downloads/camera2-api-enabler-zip-file-download/
Good luck and happy photographing!

Actually I wasn't aware of this API, I'm gonna try to use it. Thank you !
