Headphone Adapter Issues - Essential Phone Questions & Answers

Hello, today I was trying to use my headphones but my phone wouldn't output anything to them, I have two adapters so I decided to try the other one and that didn't work, and also when I try to use YouTube it is incredibly slow with the adapter plugged in. And also my phone is rooted with elemental X kernel installed

Yeah the official one has a dac built in where alot of third party dongles and even Moto's don't.

I'm going under the assumption that this isn't an issue that can be fixed through software. If not and someone has found a fix other than going out and buying a new adapter please bless us with your solution.

Here is what I did, I unrooted my phone and that seemed to work

Did this really work

Yes I was experiencing other problems with root so I decided to unroot and that worked

I had some issues with mine slowing the device down initially, but then it informed me that an update for the dongle was available, and everything's been fine since. Update installed fine on a rooted phone.

Help! No sound through car dock with 4.2.2

I just unlocked/rooted and have been playing around with a few roms to see which I like best. One HUGE issue for me is none of the 4.2.2 roms allow audio to come through the car dock usb cable. I know google ditched the car mode in 4.2.2 and thats ok by me (lots of alternatives) but I just bought a car dock so I wouldn't have to plug multiple cables in when getting into the car.
Anyone know a workaround or any ROMS that have it working? Or, any 4.2.1 ROMS out there worth flashing?
Thanks
Andy
Can anyone confirm any 4.2.2 ROMS that have working audio through the motorola car dock? A few folks claim there are but no one will confirm exactly what ROM.

I take back what I said. These were guys talking about their stock ROMs on the HD. However this was just posted a few days ago: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/restore-car-dock-mode-on-android-4-2/
Thanks for the link but this just enables the car dock trigger to be activated and allows the home key to bind to the car dock home screen when pressed. I have had no problem with a 4.2.2 rom and a market car dock app being triggered when placed in the car dock. Once in the car dock though the audio does not flow through the usb cable (special cable that is split on the charging end with a headphone jack so only one cable goes into the dock)
The audio through usb car dock issue is a little deeper.
I will keep searching but thanks for your efforts.
Tried the new beanstalk but still a no go for sound through the dock. Phone kind of freezes when you try to play something while docked too like most cm 10.1 ROMs.
Silk hoping someone figures this out.

TC: Does this cable setup you have work on the stock ROM? I know mt Razr M car dock came with a normal USB cable and a separate headphone cable. I was under the impression that the Razr M did not allow audio over USB like some of the other models do.
Could be wrong, just want to see what's going on here it it is capable.

Yes, it works on stock ROM as well as CleanRom. The cable that came with my dock (some docks don't come with it) has on one end the micro usb and on the other a regular sized USB and a headphone female split off of it. It is really convenient because then you just dock the phone and both are connected.

Still searching for a 4.2 ROM with working car dock audio. Tried a few that some said had it working (BeanStalk, CM official nightlies) as well as most others.
Come on, someone has to have fixed this. Can anyone confirm any 4.2 or later roms that have fixed this?
I heard it's been fixed on some other 4.2 phones (s3 I think...)
Basically Google removed the code from the kernel, so a new kernel would be required to fix it.

Anyone know of any roms (confirmed) that have enabled this yet?

I haven't seen any or personally tried any. However, I was just looking through the thread about the XPosed Framework modules. There's a module in there that is for allowing car dock on 4.2.2. I don't know if it works, but it never hurts to try. You'll need to install the Xposed Framework installer app here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1574401 . Then use the modules from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327541 .
If it works, come back and let us know.

Don't think that is going to do it as I have no problems with Car Dock Mode being enabled (the phone recognizing it is in a dock). I will try it if I get the time though.

Ah, gotcha. I didn't read too much into what the module actually did.

[Q] Slimport issues...

Hello all!
A few weeks ago I purchased the startech slimport cable/adapter. My original goal for purchasing it was to be able to better test an hdtv I was in the market for. Turns out when I was ready to go shopping I didn't have the cable with me so I wasn't able to test use it. Fastforward a week or two and I finally get to try it. It didn't work. At the time my Nexus was running on Droyd's kitkat rom (along with the kernel that came with it). I think nothing at all would happen whenever I would plug it in. I did some reading/research and saw that people were mentionning having problems with Slimport, especially when using new versions of custom roms. People were mentionning having issues with the earlier releases of CM but that it was later fixed. I then decided to flash CM 10.1.3-mako stable from sept 23rd but Slimport still doesn't work. I noticed though that my phone now gets rotation locked to landscape whenever I plug the Slimport/HDMI cable into it but I still get the no signal message on my TV. I've read some people mention that they've had issues when they were using a cable that is not HDMI 1.4 (I'm not sure if my cable is, I got it at the dollar store). Have other people had the same issue? Has anybody gotten Slimport to work with this version of CM? Can anybody confirm me a custom ROM with which they've had success using slimport? I tried looking in the slimport review thread but it has gotten so big and I don't really have the time to read all of it.
Thanks!
Nvm, I got it to work. My first cable was a 6ft cable and I now purchased a 3ft one. It now works perfectly!

New Firmware MO0205-TS

Hi all,
it seems like there is finally a new firmware available, you can grab it HERE.
Did somebody try it out? Is it KitKat? And does it have Ouya Everywhere?
Yes it has Oyua everywhere and also 4k support but it's still 4.2.2
Also rooting with Modaco broke my Wi-Fi

firmware
That firmware was installed on my MOJO when I rooted it on Saturday. I don't have alot of experience, but the only problem I can report is some streaming issues with SD content over WiFi.
Already rooted
Hi, someone tried to install in already rooted MOJO?
it is safe?

Still 4.2.2? Did you root using Modaco after the upgrade? Why would they not upgrade to 4.4.2 just like every other box out there at this point? No changelog for this firmware either?

If you haven't done so, in order to restore WiFi, you must do a factory reset. Sucks, but it is the only fix I was able to find.

I rooted with towelroot, now everything is working fine except Watchever (crashing when starting video)
Does installing this do a full wipe? And do you lose root? I don't care about wifi.. I'm hardwired.

To answer my own questions - no, it does not do a wipe. Yes, you do lose root.
Rerooting worked. I did not test wifi. If wifi is breaking for some people, I imagine the problem might be that the root process looks like it's just flashing a kernel. Without kernel modules (usually part of a rom), wifi and other stuff (power saving etc) sometimes fail from a mismatch. We might need a current root kernel to flash.
wow, good news!
I wonder why MCZ haven't announced it already
I'm guessing public testing..root update..
Shame it's not kitkat tho:crying: but still great to get ouya everywhere and 4k display option :highfive:
I see some changes:
- HDMI 4K2K option.
- Better compatibility in Google Play without root.
- Ouya store. But It didn´t work yesterday.

I thought MCZ would be pushing updates out automatically? I'm fairly certain I registered mine when I first set it up.

I answer my self, updated and rooted with Modaco without problems, everything working, except OUYA but i think that servers are down.
Can someone please tell me how to install this?
Do I just put it in the root directory?
Do I have to download all the files or only the one from 6/14?

I just noticed a few things
-Can get root back if you use the towel root v1
-Ouya store is now working: I was able to setup an account but it did ask me for root.
-Bluetooth works better: I have a bluetooth keyboard paired with it. Before I had to manually connect it but now I just turn on the keyboard and it picked it up instantly.

I'm not really sure about how the android updates work -- especially in regards to each individual micro-console -- but if the versions you get are more or less the same as on the Shield, I think I'd count myself lucky that you haven't been updated to KitKat yet. On the Shield, many of the emulators seem to have a permanent slight stutter now, whereas before on Jelly bean, they apparently ran very smooth (this is Hearsay from around the forums, as I just got my Shield about a week ago. I can attest that quite a few of the emus stutter though.) As someone who mainly uses these consoles for emulation purposes, it's quite a let down, and I've even thought of switching my Shield out for a Mojo because of it (that's not the only reason, but a major one.) Having Ouya Everywhere available is another reason I'd like to switch; not sure Nvidia will ever get one board with it.

We need an upgrade from 4.2.2, even if it's to 4.3 for BT4 stack and remove the USB dongle and for also openGL ES3 (4.2.2 is 2.2 and getting old)

Yes, this would be great. I just want to be able to get rid of the dongle to free up a USB port. This would be a great improvement
incompatible list through the roof
Has anyone else noticed since this latest update the incompatible list of games has gone through the roof. Literally only about 20% of what I used to have on the mojo will reinstall, the rest just have the your devise is incompatible message. I've tried deleting my data files and clearing the catch to see if it helped out but nothing.
Once step forwards two steps back. Sigh
Edit: i was able to force Blitz brigade to install, accessing my google account via a desktop and selecting blitz brigade to install to mojo (u have to make sure your using wifi not using the ethernet on the mojo) this auto started the install on the mojo. This was one of the games which used to be compatible but is now showing as incompatible on my mojo.
This trick didnt work for nova 3 or modern combat 5 so appears to be rather hit and miss
Off topic but if you havent got MC5 yet get it jumped on bounds since mc4, the control system has improved dramatically from all the other mc games and it wasnt particularly bad on them to begin with. Not played it online yet but the solo mode has been pretty epic, works really well with the c.t.r.l.r and the sixaxis pads the apk has them both mapped to work straight out the box.

Thanks for the info on MC5, it's defiantly on my radar!

Android Auto running LOS14.1

Anyone able to used Android Auto running the latest version of LOS? First time using it so I'm not sure what to quite expect, but I think it would something more than nothing!
I've used it a lot on my Note 7. It works great. I ran it once in the Axon 7 and it worked just fine.

Were you able to get this to work ? By your last post I realize you meant Android Auto on a car head unit and not the Android Auto app lol.
Lol yeah I did. I found that MTP kept changing over to USB charging. Switching it back to MTP fixed it

type c earphones wont work

Hey guys. So I recently bought the essential earphones (type c) and they work pretty good on every other phone. They do not work on my essential phone, I've tried everything (safe mode, I messed around with the usb settings, I cleaned the port). Is there anything else I can do??
They work for me.

I see. I'm not surprised, I've had something sound like it "caught" a couple of times when connecting, sounded like it caught on one of the usb contacts. Now I'm always very careful to put it in straight as the the port they have used doesn't have an internal guide like Samsung phones that force the connector to be straight before it meets the internal plns. Not a good component choice, I think. Hope you get it working
