Hey guys, I updated to 8.0 Oreo and most of the times my POWER button and HOME button will not work. If the screen goes black, ill have to connect a charger so the clock menu and thumbprint screen comes on. Ive notice it will happen if the HOME button will work then after if I press the HOME button, the screen will light up as if I did a screen shot, then, the GOOGLE ASSISTANT app pops up and asks me to "sign up". Its at this time the POWER and HOME buttons will not work. Its completely annoying. Ive went through the GOOGLE ASSISTANT options but yet it still does it. Anyone heard of this or can I do an ODIN flash to 7.0???? Thanks guys!
***Mods, please delete post
With no answers or anything as to the cause, even with an Oreo 8.0 factory reset, I just ended up using ODIN to get back to 7.0.
im experiencing the same. at first it was my home and power buttons. but after i rebooted my phone, the power button is already working properly but the home button is still not. the fingerprint scanner is working fine though. is this a software error or do we need to replace our home buttons? any workarounds? please share. thank you.

I'm running a completely stock phone and unrooted. For some reason my power button stopped working properly yesterday. When I press it the screen won't turn off anymore. The only way to turn it off is to set the screen time out to a shorter interval. The only thing I can think of that I did before it stopped working was trying to take a screenshot by pressing the hardware back button and home key several times like it said in that thread. I also tried doing it with the backspace button and home button. I wonder if I hit some weird keyboard combo that disabled the power button screen shutoff. It will still give me th "power off/silent/airplane" options if I do a long press.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Okay, I fixed it. I don't know what originally caused the problem, but I manually updated all the system options: firmware, profile, PRL, and Android, even though there were no actual updates to download. Pressed the power button and it's back to normal.
Whew...I can change my timeout back to 30 minutes.
I need to reset my a500 somehow...
the reason being compatible apps are saying they are not... i dont know what to do i like how my tablet is running but i dont like how my apps are installed but invisible to the rom i use ..
trust me i dont know whats going on with this app stuff Ive done everything uninstalled via TB root and still show open (when uninstalled).. gahhh

Acer Offical Hard Reset Video

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes.
Just tried it on mine
Steps:
While Tab is on, turn on lock screen switch.
Turn off tab
While holding Volume + press power button
When tab vibrates, release the power button ONLY and QUICKLY turn off the screen rotation lock switch.
If you see some white writing in the upper left, and things should be going smoothly.
Again, you have to flip the screen lock switch quickly after the tab vibrates while continuing to hold down the vol + button.
If you did not back up your original ROM then you will need to re-flash the correct version from your area and update accordingly.

Dear !
I am user of OnePlus 2 and I have problem with my home button. It is well known problem, but what I should do in such situation - send it with warranty ?
Sometimes id doesn't work and I need to touch it many, many times before it will star working.. :/ I was testing meizu mx5 and there home button was much better. What I should do?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePAjihJJbhg - here is my problem
Everyone knows there is an issue with sensitivity of home button. Hopefully this will be solved by future OTA updates by Oneplus. Till then use on screen buttons or set screen off on long press of Home button and Camera on double tap(Kinda works for me).
fortunately home button is working fine in my phone
but once i changed the double tap functionality to turn the screen off then i observed battery drain
so switched back to do nothing on double tab
Interesting, I have this problem but in reverse. Its activating the home button without me touching it. i tried wiping the button with a cloth but no luck. Had to switch to on-screen buttons. Anybody have a solution?
Sometimes, but not always, pressing the Home button brings up the Google app. Don't know of this has anything to do with it or not.
Thanks for any tips that anyone can offer.
Hello everyone here,
I just run into trouble - a power button on my Galaxy J5 failed. Few days ago home button failed too.
Device is still on and running, so I need a quick check for not locking myself out.
1) after phone was locked - can volume keys wake the screen? (so I can enter e.g. an unlock pattern)
2) does J5 require to press power or home button to turn it on (e.g. after power down)
3) does J5 require to press power or home button to wake screen after it is restarted?
also, if anyone would like to suggest...
4) how can I access restart menu? or just restart the device?
5) any other issues I can run into?
6) can the be a software issue?
7) can a non-affiliated repair shop get this easily fixed or would they probably make things worse?
any advice is welcome!
phone is not rooted. Lock screen security (pattern) is now deactivated.
Model SM-J510FN, J510FNXWUAQG1, Android 6.0.1,
thanks!
Plug in charging, if it wakes up its working!!
thanks for feedback!
yes, it is working I installed Gravity Screen app and it seems to be doing fine with turning screen on and off.
The only question left is what to expect if the battery should run off one day or I'll need to reboot the phone or take out the battery... I am afraid it expects pressing power button to start booting, but its not working... any ideas?

Yep.. Then you'll have to take it to the service centre, that's the only solution I can think of.. :silly:
today the power button misteriously started to act again. I'll stick to Gravity app for waking the screen and hope the button will work in rare cases when needed after powerdown....
thanks everyone for suggestions!
