One thing I noticed from my recordings is that this phone uses noise supression on most microphones, but the built in one in the default sound recorder app. Noise reduction reduces the sound quality quite a bit, so I'd like to see if it can be bypassed.

Hi, i don't know if it's just my surround but whenever i try recording a video, it is always set to noise cancellation mode and i have no control to change it.
do you guys have the ability to change it from noise cancellation to stereo? i was reading about the ability to change it at phonearena's htc surround review but can't find it in my own device.
I have that option...Audio Recording Options...and it shows me Normal, Noise Reduction, and Stereo. Then again...I am having other issues with my phone like the market crashing all the time. Ringtones not working until I reboot the phone...you know the normal crap.
Was wondering if noise cancellation can be implemented for audio playback through a regular headset, using defy's second mic?
How do you mean? It's for getting the noise out of a recording (speaking in call).
Yeah, in the same way, can it be used to cancel environment noise to listen to clearer music?
For cm7, try settings>call settings>voice quality, try each of those options there.
When recording video, the audio leaves a lot to be desired. Constant crackling and breaks in audio, onset by presumably LG's noise cancellation algorithms.
Try it for yourself. Record a video of you counting from 1 to 10 with a few gaps in between and you can hear the noise cancelling go full retard. But when you use a voice recording app like EVR, no problems occur due to noise cancellation being no where nearly as aggressive to fluctuations in sound.
Are there any custom ROMs or other apps to manually adjust the amount of noise suppression that occurs?
I livestream on Twitch and have very weird behavior with the audio when recording, especially in noisy environments. I use the Bitstream and/or StreamLabs apps to stream. Within the app there's a setting to set the mic to either Camcorder or Microphone mode. However, the noise suppression makes background noises sound weird in each.
Example in Camcorder Mode (very low levels, speaker voices are clear, background noise very "underwater"/wildly changing): https://clips.twitch.tv/FastLitigiousWaffleStoneLightning
Example in Microphone Mode (noise levels normal, ambient/background noise starts to get "underwater" the louder it gets) : https://clips.twitch.tv/WimpyGenerousMarjoramTBTacoLeft
Anybody have any strategies for fixing this?
Hi,
People on the other end of the line always 'complain' about background noise on my side. Even the slightest noise in the room can be heard over the phone.
When I make a call on a train station the background noise is also very loud. I'm not used to these complaints with previous phones. My old Nexus 5 for example never recorded background noise or at least filtered it out perfectly. What is your experience? And is there anything I can do to improve noise cancellation?
