1440p, 2160p or WQHD/4K VIDEO playback problems, why...? - Huawei Mediapad M3 Questions & Answers

Hi Guys! I just bought this tablet, and been trying to play higher than HD videos for days in multiple circumstances without succes.
what is going on?
i updated to the latest firmware,
latest youtube app, videoplayers (tried several)
in youtube app:
wont show options higher than 1080p
cant zoom in to 16:9 videos to get rid of letterboxing.
I tried these videos, Patagonia 8K, etc. still only fullHD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChOhcHD8fBA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPdWJeybMo8
also tried in video player app,
downloaded the above vids from youtube in WQHD and 4k resolutions : bad playback, stuttering
tried blueray rips, 2160p : extreme stuttering and freezups!
1440p : theres very few available in this resolution, movies etc. only found one, played ok, but sometimes stuttered also.
what am I doing wrong? or this is a only fullHD capable tablet with a bigger screen stacked on?
thx :highfive:
ps: this is the one of those I tried, with very heavy stuttering, while I also cut the first 20 so minutes and removed 2 audiostreams from the 3 to make it easyer on the rig, but to no avail...

3.1 and Youtube app

Hi Xoomers. I'm using the Transformer currently and would like to know about HC 3.1 and the Youtube app. 2 quick questions
1) Does the Youtube app on 3.0.1 on the Xoom also have the choppy/laggy playback problem in full screen with HD turned on? The Transformer has this problem.
2) If Yes to 1, did upgrade to 3.1 fix the playback issue in the app?
Thanks in advance
I've never had choppy playback in HD in the YouTube app
It is greatly improved.
The UI is different too:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
i don't like the way they moved fullscreen icon to bottom left corner.
Can't say if 3.1 fixes the problem, still waiting for it, but my Wifi xoom always start full screen HD youtube movies choppy. Same on rewind or forward... choppy for a while and gets ok after a couple of seconds.
If you are talking about the jumpy video when you switch to full screen and when ever there is something over-lay, if that is the issue you are talking about, yes it is resolved. I did not see any of that same jumpiness at when I switch to full screen.
My Wifi XOOM Youtube never experience choppy issue in either 3.0.1 or 3.1
I'm not speaking about the jumpy choppyness when switching to full screen. I'm speaking about choppyness when the video plays in full screen HD mode. It is an issue on the Transformer.

Watch Video and post review

Hello all ,
Go to Youtube and watch DTS : The Speaker Orchestra
Watch it in HD
LINK : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBvm4FZF8L4
Compare it with playing in your laptops or desktops or other smart phones...
You'l see how awful this pixel crush is in Note....!!
PS: Please post your review here after watching the video
Yup. Looks like where there is black background there are huge pixels. I don't know how it's possible.
I watched it in opera mobile browser, bit of black crush.
That video looks sweet on my note really shows off the screen :-D
It's there for only a fraction of a second... If I watch the exact same section where the so called crush is on my pc monitor I see the same artifacts. It's just compression that messes with that particular section. Apart from that fraction of a second the rest of the clip just shows what a gorgeous screen the Note has.
I took a screenshot on my pc and lowered the mid levels in Photoshop by just a little to show exactly what is wrong with the movieclip and not with the phone... All this whining about crush is getting ridiculous if you're just blindly blaming the Note. This is just lousy compression and has absolutely nothing to do with the Note itself.
The proof:

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
This shot is taken from the 1080p version and the artifacts are there at the exact same frames in all screen modes.
My review: calibrate your laptop or desktop monitor if you can't see these artifacts on it, your contrast/brightness settings are off.
amazing

Stock Camera App Crops Video? Google Camera is wider widescreen.

Has anyone else noticed the following:
Take a 1080p video with the stock Moto camera app.
{

"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then take one with the Google Camera app.
(both taken with my phone sitting on my laptop on a mini tripod)
The Google Camera video is a wider wide-screen on mine, and I can't seem to find any setting that will make the Moto camera match it. Actually I've tried Open Camera too and it also crops like the Moto.
It looks like in the Google app, all it does is crop the 21 MP still image to 16:9 and records that at 1080p. But in the other apps, they crop out a bit from the middle too.
Anyone have an idea of what's going on here? I generally prefer the Google Camera, except it won't record to SD card and it won't record longer than 4 GB so I've been shopping for a new app (Open Camera works well, but isn't as wide screen!)
edit: This is a Droid Turbo 2. Mine is still LP and my wife's is MM, and it does this on both.
If you look harder, moto have a "programm stability" of videos. Maybe moto camera cut video for stabilization.
Good call, that was it. When I disabled video stabilization in Open Camera, I got the same field of view as Google Camera.

Can you watch HD movies on Google Play Movies, Vudu, etc?

This was the main reason I had to return the OnePlus 3. I have a big movie collection (a lot in both apps) and like to download and watch them on my phone, but for whatever reason the OnePlus 3 wouldn't allow HD viewing, and would max out at 480p in both apps. It drove me crazy.
Because the Axon 7 is similarly cheap, I was concerned that the situation would be the same. I wanted to ask those who have it: have you had any similar issues with those apps? If you go look at an HD movie on Google Play Movies, does it say something like "HD movies will play in SD on this device" like this screenshot?
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

}
Yep, only SD is available on my Vudu app installed on the Axon 7. Sorry...
I figured. The US model of the Axon 7 is not on the list of Google Play supported devices. That usually indicates this problem (among others).

Click to expand...
Click to collapse
Just fired up "Transformers" in Google Play Movies (got it for free - only movie I've got) and it appeared to happily stream in HD over Wi-Fi on my Axon 7 - I couldn't find any setting where it would display the playback stats.
Attempting to rent a movie did return the same warning you posted though.
This is not a device limitation it's a site\host imposed limitation. This helps limit the bandwidth the sites use daily by reducing the quality stream for most phones.

EMUI - Guide on Shooting a slow motion video on your Honor mobile

Your Honor device with EMUI 4.0 isn't just a still camera, it's also a video camera. It can record standard video in up to 60 fps. You can also capture slow motion video, to see every back flip or water drip, watch dance moves in slow motion and you can do a lot with it!
How to shoot a slow motion video on your EMUI Phone

1. Launch the Camera app from the Home screen.
2. Go to options from the top right and select Slow-mo mode, or just tap the word Slow-mo.

3. Drag the sliders on either side to the points where you want the video to ease into or out of slow-mo.
