This was the main reason I had to return the OnePlus 3. I have a big movie collection (a lot in both apps) and like to download and watch them on my phone, but for whatever reason the OnePlus 3 wouldn't allow HD viewing, and would max out at 480p in both apps. It drove me crazy.
Because the Axon 7 is similarly cheap, I was concerned that the situation would be the same. I wanted to ask those who have it: have you had any similar issues with those apps? If you go look at an HD movie on Google Play Movies, does it say something like "HD movies will play in SD on this device" like this screenshot?

Yep, only SD is available on my Vudu app installed on the Axon 7. Sorry...
I figured. The US model of the Axon 7 is not on the list of Google Play supported devices. That usually indicates this problem (among others).

Just fired up "Transformers" in Google Play Movies (got it for free - only movie I've got) and it appeared to happily stream in HD over Wi-Fi on my Axon 7 - I couldn't find any setting where it would display the playback stats.
Attempting to rent a movie did return the same warning you posted though.
This is not a device limitation it's a site\host imposed limitation. This helps limit the bandwidth the sites use daily by reducing the quality stream for most phones.

You just have to see it to believe it.
It doesn't only find and play all YouTube videos but also other videos from a wide variety of sources on the internet!!!
YouTube videos works amazingly good FULLSCREEN even on my relatively slow HTC S710! There are versions of the app for both smartphone and PPC!!! And the best of all the app is completely FREE!

Hi Guys! I just bought this tablet, and been trying to play higher than HD videos for days in multiple circumstances without succes.
what is going on?
i updated to the latest firmware,
latest youtube app, videoplayers (tried several)
in youtube app:
wont show options higher than 1080p
cant zoom in to 16:9 videos to get rid of letterboxing.
I tried these videos, Patagonia 8K, etc. still only fullHD
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChOhcHD8fBA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPdWJeybMo8
also tried in video player app,
downloaded the above vids from youtube in WQHD and 4k resolutions : bad playback, stuttering
tried blueray rips, 2160p : extreme stuttering and freezups!
1440p : theres very few available in this resolution, movies etc. only found one, played ok, but sometimes stuttered also.
what am I doing wrong? or this is a only fullHD capable tablet with a bigger screen stacked on?
thx :highfive:
ps: this is the one of those I tried, with very heavy stuttering, while I also cut the first 20 so minutes and removed 2 audiostreams from the 3 to make it easyer on the rig, but to no avail...

Hi,
I have a Fire HD 10 (2017) tablet, debloated with "Amazon Fire Toolbox" v4.2, with the Prime Video app still installed. The app runs fine, but I cannot watch any video on it -- every time I start one, it says "video unavailable". I tried restoring all the apps just in case, but the problem still exists. The videos are fine when I use a web browser.
Some more information: In addition to using the Toolbox, I unsuccessfully tried to root the tablet with Kingoroot a few months ago. The tablet does not currently have root access. Hulu works fine.
I wonder if anyone knows what caused this. I am hesitant to contact Customer Service at this time since I am doing all these tweaks, but I hope if there is a simple fix to that. Thank you

No, I am not using the Google Play version -- I "restored", i.e. unhid it using "pm unhide" in the adb, therefore it is supposed to be the stock version of the app, if I understand correctly.

Oh in that case the amazon video app is probably dependent on another package. You'll probably need to unhide more apps until this will start working. Sorry I can't be of more help.
Hey everyone,
Just wanted to ask a quick question. I've got the 2016 Tab A 10.1 and was considering updating to the 2019 one.
In Netflix on the one I have now the Maximum resolution playback is SD. Can anyone who has the 2019 one tell me if Netflix playback is in Full HD on the new models? Thanks

I went to a local place to try this app. and L1 is supported. Didn't have a chance to try netflix though.
Even if netflix doesn't support, you can get hd with the modded netflix.

According to the playback specification on the Netflix app, full HD is supported.

Hi All,
Looking for a Wear OS Smart Watch that can do 2 things without the need to carry around a phone:
Listen to podcasts (I use Pocket Cast app on the phone, but happy to switch to another app if needed for this)
Track my runs (I currently use the Run keeper app, but happy to switch to Strada or anything else that might be needed for this).
I spent some time researching this on the net, and I got super confused. https://19216881.org/ https://1921681001.link/ https://19216801.digital/
If anyone is using their Wear OS device for these two things, any recommendation would be much appreciated.
Most if not all wearos watches can do this, podcasts are easier than music.
I've used "Wear Cast" app in the past and it's great.
You can use strava or runkeeper or almost any of the main apps. Depending on your watch it will have some sort of 3rd party health tracking software preinstalled. Those can often sync to strava as well, sometime they link to other apps but strava is the main one.
If you want offline music you are out of luck mostly unless you side load Spotify lite from xda.
I'll recommend the Ticwatch Pro 4G/LTE as the only option that can even get a data signal on its own (Verizon only, standalone plans available).
If you are willing to download podcasts and transfer them to your watch, using either ADB (my choice) or NavMusic/NavExplorer (great products, honestly) then I'd up my recommendation to the Ticwatch Pro 3. Best WearOS watch on the market. Built-in TicExercise is really good, but you can use RunKeeper or any other watch with a WearOS version.
