Do you black/graphite owners wish you had the white Hero and vice versa?
I kind of wish Orange did the white version, I think they look better, even if they are less practical and hard-wearing. Anyone wanna swap? Haha.
I think the white looks fantastic. Black is kinda old school IMO (how many black gadgets have you had?) but it's entirely subjective.
White for sure! I had real reservations when I ordered the white Hero, after years of black HTC devices.... but I love it. It's s refreshing change
White
Is there another color besides white?
Kidding...WHITE is the color!
I have less than zero desire for a white device!
Regards,
Dave
I've had the white and was forever making sure it was clean!! Not putting it in leather cases as the leather marks the white, giving it a rub after using/pulling out of pocket. This is a phone! I took more care of it than my girlfriend!
Had to sell it as when it did get dirty it looked old and tatty, so went and got a black one which to me looks sleek and cool.
Can't remember how many times I got called a fairy for having a white phone?!?
White! Ive had no probs with dirt on it. And yesterday I putted it in a clear gel case, so no problems
i love the graphite one!!!! the white one is cool, too, but i prefer the graphite
I had the graphite first off then I returned it and got the white one and I can say I definetly prefer white. Generally in my experience others also prefer it. It does get dirty easily and quite often but I still wouldn't swap with black or graphite.
I have a white Hero , simply love it. I had the opportunity to swap it for a black one when i had led problems but in my opinion, the black colour and the white trackball don't match well.
Graphite all the way, pukka it is toooo
Black one all the way! That said I havent seen any other colours in the flesh
white?
Hi to all
I will definitelly buy a Hero in comming days, but i am quite torn apart about the color.
I definitelly like white more than black, but all some of your experiences are really scary. I want to take care of the phone of course, but taking care of the colorations/smudges every day (?) is too much to it. I want to play with software, not hardware
What about you, hero white owners, is it really so bad?
One day I noticed my white one had picked up some grease and ink smudges on the back. (I work in a greasy, inky environment!) I figured I'd have to clean it with Cif or something. The next day I went to do so and as I pulled it out my pocket, I noticed all the dirt was gone!
I think the Teflon makes it that bit easier for dirt to just rub off onto fabric. Plus it feels and looks great.
The aesthetics really are personal though, of course.

You were planning to clean with cif????????
I guess you're joking right? cause these chemicals might peel off the teflon layer. Especially something like cif.
A homopolymer like Teflon wont have any problem with nonionic surfactants. The Teflon is bonded well too so any harsh solutes should have little effect. I've known people to use Cif cream on the Hero with good effect.
If you do have your doubts though, don't take my word for it
is the graphite the same loike the brown one? i got the brown and love it

Have you ever used Cif before? It cleans almost anything and its not going to take off a bonded layer such as Teflon. You can use it on tiles, worktops or anything, but it doesn't take the waterproofing off.
A light amount of cif on kitchen roll and wipe the casing worked fine on my white one. I had a curry stain on it, yes! curry!!! The strength of the curry was more likely to take off the coating than the Cif!
Teflon has some applications in chemistry due to it's resilience to corrosion. It completely resists the corrosive effect of hydroflouric acid, which even dissolves glass. Cif is no match for Teflon.
Also, "PTFE's resistance to van der Waals forces means that it is the only known surface to which a gecko cannot stick". This is very reassuring for people who have phobias of lizards.

of course i've used cif. who hasnt?
well i was shocked because last week i cleaned my phone with alcohol and i immediately noticed that the metal grey rim around the screen and the hardware buttons got white patches. Some sort of chemical reaction with the alcohol , i dont know.
I also thought cif might remove the htc logo on the back and the label autofocus 5.0 mp bla bla bla ...
Anyway, good to know it worked out . i guess i know what to do next time i have stains on it.
Hey guys, I'm an avid photo enthusiast. I've been less than impressed with the Mytouch 3G camera sharpness to say the least. With apps like "FXcamera" and "vignette" ive been using the phone to take little artsy snap shots more and more.
Today i realized when i took my battery cover off the camera sharpness improved 100X!!! so much better! The crappy flimsy plastic that HTC used in the battery cover is naturally foggy and causes light to streak in pictures.
So in the end i took an Xacto knife and removed the little plastic window from my battery door.
My phone can now take sharp pictures all the time.
I thought I'd share this bit of info! Try it yourself... take a couple shots without the battery cover! Hope this can help my fellow frustrated MT3G owners
don't know about the MT3G, but the Magic (Vodafone) doesn't have any foil on the camera hole on the battery cover...
but though, thanks for sharing

Not talking about the foil. Talking about actually removing the plastic glass thats attached to the battery cover. So theres just a hole instead of having "glass". that little peice of fake glass destroys the cameras quality. if you take a couple shots without your battery door you'll notice a huge improvment.

I think he was saying that the Magic already has a hole in the battery cover, there is no fake glass piece
might be a good tip for MT3G users though!
Your not worried about the camera lens itself getting dirty? I love taking pics too and they always seem to have a hazy/foggy look. I always used a q-tip to clean the peep hole but now I'm considering your method too.

i tried everything to clean the little plastic peice, even expencive pro lens fluid (called Eclipse).
I think the plastic is just cheap and will always be foggy.
The lens on the camera inside is pretty heavy duty and set back about 1/8" from the cover... so its pretty impossible to hit it with anything. Its also easier to clean that lens than the battery door lens. It really makes a huuuge difference
Yea I noticed a huge differencealso, and I was able to just push out the lens cover out of the battery door with my thumbnail. But Im just afraid it will I will fog up the camera lense too like dust, sweat, pocket lint, etc. Ill just take the battery door off when I take my pictures unless I can find something to replace the lense cover, like some other piece of plastic or something I can glue onto the back. Ill post any solutions.
Took the plastic cover off as well. Wow, now I will actually use my camera...it was pointless before. Crapy design HTC.

That's odd, my Rogers HTC Magic doesn't have a glass pane on my battery cover.
Taken with my phone.

No I beleive the OP is referring to the glass or plastic cover over the camera area of the back cover.
My HTC Magic from vodafone UK doesn't have this but I would imagine removing it would be better
I did this and yes the picture quality improves but the music now sounds less deep, less bass.
Try it and cover the hole with your finger and you will see what I mean.

He is holding his battery cover..
A battery cover is to.. cover a battery to make sure it doesn't fall out. He is holding the right object and mine does not have it either.
i broke down and took out the plastic thing, no problem with the lens getting dirty so far.
my vodafone magic doesn't have the protective lens cover on the battery cover.
it does however have a lens protector covering the lens on the actual body of the phone.
it takes pretty good photos though, so maybe it's made of a different material than on the MT3G?
Yeah not a good idea at all...
Do you think that htc putted the plastic cover there just so it would look fancy?
Guess not.. This is not modding... it is actually kinda dumbing.. Give it a week or two.. and then check for all the dust that you're going to have in there...
And lets not talk about a rainy day... The phone probably will go RIP...
So if I were you all.. Ill stay wit the piece of plastic... That my opinion

Actually, HTC didn't put it on their branded Magics... Vodafone's and Rogers' Magics don't have it either... only the myTouch 3G

Since I "modded" the phone i have not had a problem with dust or anything like that. Thats what concerned me the most before I did it. And as for a rainy day, I know better than to take my phone out into the rain.

Lol who would go and take pics in the rain with their phone anyway?
You could always remove the battery cover when you take pictures, it might seem odd, but that way you won't have to remove that plastic piece, but you do risk getting your lense dirty faster even if you do remove the cover for a minute or so.
or.... we could just seek out a better replacement.
don't they make clearer plastics we could use to replace this?
I wonder if anyone has come across any gt540 housing aka replacement cases with different colours. I've made quite a few changes to the phones software (roms, themes, etc), so now I would also like to change the look or colour of it too. So if anyone has come across such things then please drop a link here

I don't have any case replacement suggestions, but I also want the mod the housing and would be interested in any suggestions.
Also I'd like to remove front-facing t-mobile and LG logos - to cover them up or otherwise remove them.
I think I can break down the phone to get under the plastic cover, but I wonder what would be a good method for hiding the logos? A little black paint? Or is there a way to rub them off or actually remove them?
acetone maybe, but beware, acetone dislikes plastic and well just dont get it on the phone but maybe a drop on a earcleaner and try with that?
You could just respray the whole case. Sand it down then spray it. You will need a couple of different types of sprays to do it properly. Research on who to spray phone plastic. Its doable but hard and very easy to mess up. I was thinking of doing that myself but Im trying to find other things 1st before I come to that.
one question guys. is it possible to change ful housing on my gt540?
greets
gt 540
me too i want to know if we can change the housing . .
Its defiantly possible ive had both my GT540s disassembled and ive had everything apart, u just need to take note of were everything goes, ive made videos on how to take them apart, right to removing the screen and digitizer. a new Fascia is all that your would need or to make things easier a new fascia and screen and digi included. Search Tech2Tuts on Youtube for videos
I spray painted my housing yesterdag. Took the whole phone apart first.
Only thing I didnt spray was the digitizer. I used a glossy black color. Kind of cool, because the lg logo and 3mp icon just shine trough in the right light.
I sprayed directly on the plastic housing, without sanding or anything. Looks pretty good. But I dont think the paint is super dureable. And all the little lines around the chrome are hard to fill with paint. Used acetone btw to clean off accidently sprayed parts..
can you send some pictures of your tuned gt540 ?

Hi. So noticed my g2 is changing color. I'm talking about the rubber part of the phone. Its starting to look like a green(ish) color. Anyone experiencing this? Any suggestion how to fix this (if I still can)? Or how to avoid further discoloration. Thanks.

Same thing is happening to mine. :-(
I started a thread about it a while back. A few other people are getting the same thing.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Interesting. When I first picked up this phone, I immediately thought yellowish discoloration might occur on the rubber. Unfortunately it appears my suspicions were correct. Maybe we should be wiping our devices down with isopropyl or something daily to remove oils from our nasty hands. I don't know.
I am starting to get discoloration as well. Mine is starting to turn brownish around all of the edges. I have tried everything to remove the color but to no avail. Anyone?
If you are referring to inside, beside the keyboard I suggest looking under the screen where it matches up with the discoloration. There are two rubber pads that rest on it and cause the discoloration
Sent from my HTC Vision using Gingerbread
No my color is on the edge of the device. You can notice it the most when looking at the front of the device along the bottom rim.
the discoloration marks next to the keypad seems to at the same place the rubber pads under the screen contact..
Yep, no pics but I have same thing. The minute I bought it I put a hard case thats blue/black gradient and looks quite nice... But when I take it off to open the battery door I see that around the USB port and volume buttons it's a nasty dark shade compared to the nice pretty gray.
Has anyone had luck removing the coloration?
I was at it for a good 30 minutes with rubbing alcohol and had no success. I decided to replace my full body coverage zagg shield with a maximum coverage one... And I noticed when I took of the old shield it had a yellowish tint to it, it was completely clear when I put it on. I think it's a result of dirty hands on it so the gray back of the phone changing color was bound to happen, I mean it could pretty much happen to anything...
But for what it's worth, the zagg invisible shield had protected my phone from discoloration completely, except of course where it didn't cover...
I think this is what OP is talking about. I've had a case on my phone for a while, and the volume notch was uncovered. Also tried rubbing alcohol to remove without any luck.
You've all scared me now.... Anyway I could prevent this

The max coverage zagg shield
Even though I don't see it, but when I compare another G2 to mines, I can see mines and the fact that it has changed colors. There is a flaw with this, just like when the White MacBooks first came out, they started turnning yellow within the first month.
Has anyone tried taking a magic eraser to it to see if the discoloration comes off? Worked on the MacBooks...
i'm experiencing this as well, mates. mine is turning blue around the trackpad, like a blue ink.
is there any solution for this?
Had a ZAGG from day 1. Or maybe day 3.?

I don't mind discoloration as long as the plastic/rubber doesn't get brittle and come apart
Do any of you know of a phone out there of the same height/width with a similar curvature? I'm interested in a normal case that would cover up the LED panel, making it an E-Ink phone only.
It would need a couple modifications, like a hole for the speaker and buttons, but that's easy enough to do.
you mean something like flipcover for led display ?

A flipcover would be ideal. I didn't find anything like that after searching, so I'm thinking more like a normal case that happens to cover the led display. I could then take off the case when I needed the display for whatever reason.
Might help
How about buying a screen protector for the back and spray painting the outside black, then putting another on top of that?
You can buy them on Aliexpress for $1.50 for 5.
I assume you searched for phones with a 4.7" screen. www.phonebunch.com/phone-filter/dis...oPb83xkZtPG0KITrw&sig2=x2AkDXXf_PpXrErP-7AKiw
Maybe I can help with this. My previous phone case (Samsung Galaxy Grand Duos I9082, flip case with silicone) worked quite well with YP2 with silicone case (not without). I can even plug my earphone through the hole because they aligned quite well. The other case I tried was Google Pixel. It's a bit tight horizontally if I put the YP2 with the silicone case, but it also worked quite well but not the earphone hole.
Not sure if you don't count the added thickness of the silicone case though.
In the other hand, in Aliexpress/ Banggood/etc. I've seen a few flip cover advertised for YP2, but not sure about them in real life as the pictures in the ads don't show any YP2.
