I have already flashed my h871 (at&t) to h873 using LGUP (partition dl). I heard that TMobile uses different software so I am curious.
Did you have any luck with this? I recently switched to T-Mobile and am using my AT&T G6

No, I didn't. I'm afraid of bricking my phone.

The answer is: yes it will brick, and currently there is no way to recover from such a brick.
Good thing you didn't try

Ah really? Glad I didn't lol. Will I ever get OTA software updates? Also, do you know why it would brick exactly?
Thanks!
I know nothing about ota updates, especially not in the case of usa models.
It will brick because tmo ordered an extensive security package from LG. Their phones can not be flashed with any other bootloaders from other models, neither can other models flash tmo bootloader.
If you do you'll have a hard-brick. Nothing can be done, it's out of our hands, only LG/TMO could fix it.

Is there any root yet for H918 10p if so... Please direct me to it asap lol. If not I might have to warranty exchange and then root or wait.. Thanks guys!
10p currently can not be rooted. There are some thoughts and ideas floating around, but more than likely another Linux kernel exploit will need to be found. Also, just an FYI, T-Mobile incremented the ARB version for 10p, so don't try to force an older version to flash -- that will blow the qfuse, and that is a hardware issue that can't be fixed without replacing the CPU.

I wonder if the V30 will be locked down like this?? I really DONT like the current/ future status of US based TMobile devices and the lack of root options.

My first Android phone was an HTC EVO 4G (the original WiMAX version). The first one that I got had an HBOOT with S-ON (locked bootloader). Reading on here, I found out that there were versions with an older HBOOT that had S-OFF, so I carted my butt down to the Sprint store and didn't even make up a story. I told them flat out what I wanted, and since I was still within the window of being able to cancel my contract, they took me back and let me look at the boxes that they had. I found one with the proper version, opened it up, verified that it was truly S-OFF and that was it.
Now, that was back in 2012 and things have changed since then. But if you just bought the phone, take it back and tell them exactly what you want. The LG V20 box has the software version that is installed on the UPC sticker.

Brian,
I'm not sure what version of the V20 you have, but I've got the H918 and I'm running 10p rooted with Magisk. I started with SuperSU, but wanted to start over and try out a systemless root. Real simple steps too..
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash SuperSU or Magisk
3. Root achieved.
I attached a couple of screenshots. How easy LG phones are to unlock the bootloader and flash root is the reason why I always buy LG phones, not Samsung.
Cheers!
Can't flash an su method if you can write to the boot partition (twrp)

So no way possible to root then? My V20 is running H91810k and I have been looking for a way to root it but moments ago it turn off by it self on 13% and the update for 10p was in schedule....
Guess Im out of luck if when it turn on update itself.
@joesee You were on stock 10p? If so, how did you flash TWRP so that you could flash SuperSU? fastboot flash recovery does not work with 10p.

Don't know where you get your information from, but a qfuse will never be triggered with oem unlock on. and all it is is a warranty bit. just states that your warranty is void to the manufacturer.
They do have an anti-rollback counter but that is something totally different than a qfuse.

We have a quasi-root with 10P, if starting from 10J.

They only upped the ARB number because DirtyCow was fixed. Likely wont up it again until the next root is patched.
Doubt there is a way to mess with KDZ's to be able to make them flash. someone would have done it already.

Do not attempt to downgrade ZVC or brick will occur...
And there is no fix until a ZVC kdz or tot is released...
HERE is what is downgradeable
1. ZVC cannot be downgraded....
2. ZVB can be downgraded to ZV8 no lower..... Or hard brick will occur.
3. ZV7 or lower is unknown by me If anyone else knows let me know and I will change this.....
So please for your own goods do not attempt this. for any reason be it gsm unlock or trying to root . It is all out the door for now no methods available.
And so everyone knows there is no hard brick fix available for the sprint or verizon lg g5s at this time......
So a nice new shiny paper weight.....
Hi, thank you for the warning.
Updated to ZVC, lost GMS too.
I kinda bought my G5 alredy unlocked, thought it was officialy unlocked.
Is it possible? or there is no official unlock from Sprint for G5?
I mean, is there's a point contacting Spirnt support about it?
And one more question, after update would it work with any other CDMA carrier (not sprint)?
Thank you.

Hello from 2019, if u know, now can i downgrade ZVF TO ZV8? ..
Hi all,
Have an AT&T branded V20 in Australia so not getting updates. Also can't use the hotspot without it being registered on AT&T network.
Want to know if its safe to flash a KDZ, thinking US99610N as its from the unlocked variant?
Have a few questions:
Is it possible?
Anybody know of a good guide to do it?
Risk of hard/soft bricking?
Possibility for recovering after possible brick?
Any help is greatly appreciated, been trying to find answers on my own for ages to no avail.
Thanks!
Root your phone, then flash the latest H910 firmware. There are two zips that are in the ROMs forum -- one will take you back completely to stock, and the other will upgrade you, but leave TWRP, you can decide which one.

Would updating to a newer H910 firmware still leave me with the issue of the hotspot wanting an AT&T connection? That's the only reason I thought to flash to US996 as its unlocked so would think that's the only way to alleviate the mobile hotspot issue.
Thanks again for your reply!
Search for 'H910 root' in News and DIscussions. I made a thread specifically for the H910 up to V10r.
Have you ever installed the mobile hotspot app for the carrier that you use on any other phone? If so, go into the playstore and search for it -- you will be able to install it.
For example, I use T-Mobile with my H910, and after I debloated all the AT&T crapware, I just went into the playstore and installed all the T-Mobile apps that I need. If for some reason that isn't possible for you, you can always side load them. The bottom line is, that while it may work, you will probably have more trouble if you flash another models firmware. There are exceptions, but why do it if you don't have to

Thanks heaps for your replies. I'm not trying to be difficult (but probably kinda am), I guess also my reason for looking at the US996 route is I live in Australia and that model was sold here, the H910 wasn't. So if I flashed to that wouldn't I be getting OTA updates, not having to flash every time?
Also with the hotspot, this is just a little bit of a foreign concept to me. I've owned plenty of Android phones but this is my first non-Nexus. All the others I've bought from overseas and its been as simple as settings>network>hotspot & tethering and away you go. So with this one I have to download an app? Seems stupid for something that is such a basic feature and is built into Android. I'm not sure why they bother with all this crap, stock Android is better in every way IMO.
Again really appreciate your guidance.
Well, all I can say is try it. It isn't going to brick your phone so bad that you can't recover, but the recovery process would involve you flashing the H915 KDZ and rooting. In order to do that, you must be at ARB 0, so make sure that whatever US996 KDZ that you flash doesn't increment ARB. Also, let's say that you flash the US996 10c KDZ and it works fine, but down the road you take an OTA that increments ARB AND doesn't work. You would then have no way to fix your phone.
Just trying to point out some of the pitfalls you may run into.

You don't. Thank Sprint for making the LS997 the most locked down variant and unrootable past the very old version ZV7 with a negligible chance of ever becoming rootable again.
For all the other v20 variants, which are still rootable, there are several guides for different variants, just search xda for the thread for your variant.

It's probably legit but the key is in the first step, you have to unlock the bootloader. Currently there is no way to do that therefore it's a no go.

No, their guide on unlocking the bootloader is wrong and won't work on any v20. It's a joke, they took the generic steps and assumed they worked.
Title. I no longer use this phone but I would _love_ to be able to get deleted stuff off of it. I did this in the past with my old LG G3 and never had any issues like this phone has with getting to root. I tried it when I first got the phone, tried it a year later. never worked. Now trying 3 yrs lol. Is there anything I can do or am I SOL?
@Phoenix591 already answered this for you on Reddit. I don't know what else to tell you.
Original Reddit post for anyone else who is reading
Thats an Oreo version, and so is past the point of no return. It's unrootable. Tiny electronic fuses have been physically burned to prevent it from booting rootable firmware.
As I mentioned the last version that has the ability to return to a rootable version was ZV7 (the actually rootable versions were ZV5 or earlier, however LS997 did updates weird which ment that firmware wasn't available to flash using the same tools other models use... If on ZV6 or ZV7 its possible to root by crossflashing another model's firmware briefly ) , which was a few updates before oreo came out.

Unfortunately, the LS997 ended up being more limited than the other carrier-specific models. However, root access is getting harder to come by on new carrier-specific devices in general.
