Title says it all.. I read that once you root the hero you cannot receive firmware updates OTA. Is this true? If it is, then how can we update our devices?
I had a stock ROM rooted, and was able to receive the OTA update and it successfully applied.
So I have MoDaCo installed, can I install the update over it?
thank you for any help
Anyway to install with a stock rom, without using the built in OTA update tool?

Not from sprint, but you can load the newest FreshROM over it and be updated. However be aware that the rom breaks the link between media being played the and bt device.

I assume there should be a download of it somewhere, if not sprint, google, or HTC, then on some forum....

I believe you have to go back to the stock recovery, unroot, and THEN update to MM... but I'm not sure how.

Good to know.
One more question. If I go back to stock recovery and unroot, I should be able to fine the OTA update via the EMUI's updater? (whatever version it is)

After restoring the stock recovery reinstall your current OS and then you should be able to update via the updater app or by the dload method

Btw, another way to update in your situation without losing root, is by using an all-in-one tool like FlashFire:

You should only apply updates with the same Cxxx as yours.I thought that you have C432 from the other guy's post so I'm sorry.
And I've found B210 with C469 so you can update to this first with extracting the recovery from it with Huawei Update Extractor and flashing via fastboot and then updating via dload but i don't know if there's EMUI 4.0 for C469.

Hi,
What happens if you update with the wrong Cxxx?
I just got a used p8 that's got GRA-L09C02B191 on it. I'd like to update it to Android6 before starting to screw around with custom ROMs. I've got FirmwareFinder running, and it's already found 200+ options, none of which appears to be C02, despite that being my range setting. Is my model unupdateable?
TIA!

You will get C900 and won't be able to get OTA updates, themes may not work and Android pay.

Thanks for the lightning fast reply!
That's not so bad, I don't care about themes, don't use Android Pay, and doing the updates manually isn't a huge pain. Is there anything else that I lose? Presumably I'll be able to roll back to gra-l09c02b191 to restore full functionality?
So can I then just go directly for the latest firmware, which I guess is B370?
Thanks!

I'm a relative noob to flashing rom's. Can someone tell me if I'm understanding this correctly?
Installing this update will *unroot* my phone? So after installing this update through odin, I will need to install twrp again while in download mode? And then, once that's installed, reroot my phone?

I was wondering if ever we got a huge and nice update in the near future, is it possible to update your device via the OTA Software update even though your device is rooted?
If so, how?
A link to an existing thread would be appreciated too. Thanks!

I just downgraded back to Oreo from DRL5 Pie build last night. I Odin back to CRK1. From here you can stay or update to latest Oreo build. After I flashed CRK1, I did have to go into recovery and wipe data/factory reset. It will just remove everything from your phone to factory defaults. Make sure you remember your google login details or you could get locked out of your phone. And back up your photos and stuff. I'm on sprint s8+.
