Multiple Instance of the Same App - Phoenix OS News, Q&A & Development

How can I run more than two instance of the same app at once?
If I right click on the app icon, and select "make a copy", it allows me to run two instances of the app, but no more.

I never seen make a copy option that's cool. I would like different versions of the same app

Organizing My Apps

I am a stock/non-rooted 95% happy EVO user (have a little light leak, but that's about all). However, I am getting frustrated trying to keep track of all the apps I have. Is there anything in the Marketplace that will let me organize my apps by such things as "Shopping", "Navigation", "Productivity", "Social Networking", etc? Thanks!
Search for "Apps Organizer" in the market. Been using this forever. Well before that other phone just added the option to group apps.
Hank
Just create folders and assign the apps where you want them.

Apps organizer is the best. Organize them with that and then under shortcuts>apps organizer pick the category you want on the home screen. You can also export the list, then re import if you ever change phones or do a factory reset, which makes it better than plain folders. You can also star apps, so you can make it so you only see the apps you actually use, keeping the shortcut folders less cluttered.

I use FolderOrganizer. It organizes all your Apps in fully customizable folders that open up in lil iframes. I jus checked out Apps Organizer n it seems they're pretty much the same though, so it's up to you.
Thanks, folks....I appreciate the feedback. I tried a couple of the highest rated ones and they are cool, but have one annoying thing that I can't get passed. They both have a folder/category called "Other apps" or some such that can't be deleted, even if it is empty.
Smart Shortcuts in another one just like Apps Organizer

Writing an app that interacts with another app

I want to write an app that will run in the background while I run another app. Mine would look at the screen of the other app, do some computations, and either highlight certain elements, or automatically click certain elements based on those computations.
I realize this would probably require root, correct?
I am a developer, but don't have as much Android dev experience. The parts I'm wondering about are:
- How to write an app that runs in the background of another app, but can detect its screen output and overlay on top of it.
- How to generate screen touch events for the other app.
Thanks for any tips to point me in the right direction!

html - input - file - multiple

Just made a form with and file input that have the multiple flag. On my SGS3 and Galaxy 10.1, I can only select 1 and 1 image, on mac/ipad/windows (except IE8/9) I can select multiple images. None of the apps that the phone suggested to use when I clicked the browse button allowed me to make a multiple select.
Is this a problem with the apps or is it a built in problem with Android?
If an app problem I could in theory build an app that found files and use that as a mean to feed the html-form. Or just create a dedicated upload app.

"Just Once" & "Always" Options are missing in activity Chooser

"Just Once" & "Always" Options are missing in activity Chooser
After updating to Marshmallow (SM-G900H) the activity chooser doesn't show the options to select just once or always. I have multiple apps that can handle a single file. But, when I select a single application, it's automatically set as default. I have to clear the default in order to open it in another. Eventhough it's useful for the users who uses limited apps, They can select "always" if there is an option.
It's really frustrating & killing the freedom of switching between apps.
There are so many similar reports all around the world in S6 as well. The most of the suggested workaround is to use "Better Open With". But, that won't work with many uncommon extension. For example I want to open an xml file. I usually use HTML viewer for better viewing experience & to validate. But, want to open with Quick Text Editor for editing. Since It Openwith can't handle, I have to clear the defaults everytime.
How many of you have similar issues...?

Click to collapse
I miss that option after upgrading to marshmallow
Yes it's frustrating to always clear defaults to use another app
We may have to emphasize this issue, if we needs this feature back to marshmallow.
I have already contacted samsung india support team & they have replied that they will forward it to the development team. Got a reference number too.
Until or unless it's emphasized Samsung will never care.

Downloading file no longer associated with App

When we download certain file types or URLs, there can be an association that causes a particular app to open. For example, I've set an association so that when I click on a link that mentions IMDB, the IMDB app opens rather than viewing in a browser. And certain programs can be associated with downloads too, so that when we click on the download link, that app will fire rather than the standard download action.
I had this working great with an app called SabNZBDPlus. When I would click on a link for a .nzb file, that app would kick off, and know how to handle that file. But recently, I reinstalled that program. Now, rather than firing the program - or asking me what I'd like to do - the file simply downloads like any other, and none of SabNZBDPlus automation takes place. I've tried clearing application defaults, reinstall, reboot, and so on but cannot seem to clear this.
What I'd like to do, is make Android once again ask me what to do when I click on such a link. I'm sure this can be resolved by factory reset, but that seems to be overkill.
Any ideas?
