Hi all. Sorry if this has been asked but I have not been able to find anything.
I was wondering if it is possible to add folders or group apps in the big app list?
Sent from my LeeDrOiD Desire HD using XDA App
Not that I know of. And one of the main things I'm missing from Android. Hopefully in 2.3... In the meantime you can create labels and folders based on them using for example Folder Organizer, but only on the launcher (desktop) screens. Better then nothing I guess.
Sent from my Desire HD
yeah I got the launcher folders set up. Just the main app list is just all over the place. Would be good to organise it better.
Sent from my LeeDrOiD Desire HD using XDA App
Agreed, ive been looking for something to do this with..
I'm really happy and impressed with Android and DHD, but in this field Android is so behind, that even apple with its simple folders is better (and the more apps you've got, the more akward and confusing it gets. Still hoping it's not Androids limitation - otherwise the only option would be a hack, or a "work around".
Ps. The other great addition would be a native, and launcher independent, "recent tab" ( like i.e "Go Launcher"). And honestly for a company who's mostly known as search engine and tag-aware ads system company - then why such a poor tagging implementation in Android (same goes for Android Market - let developers add tags to their software and based on that, automatically create folders). Just limit tags to specific number (3? first one being category type and based on that folder name - limited list), otherwise some devs in order to promote their soft will start adding tens of tags, creating even more confusion.

I'm pretty shure we will soon see some improvement on this part of android
Its something wich is really needed! The apps like folder Organizer takes CPU and ram! not so fun. but coustmization of the folders is nice.
Hey everyone! Recently migrated phones from a Touch Pro 2 to this (like a lot of you probably did) and have spent the last couple days trying to get used to the Android OS. So far I've managed to pretty much set up everything how I want and I've rooted, over clocked, and flashed a custom rom onto it (Virtuous v1.0.2).
Coming over from Windows Mobile though, one gripe I am having is being able to rename the apps in the app draw. Since I only have about 6 apps on the homescreen, I'm aware it is possible to rename them using programs such as bettercut or super app manager, but unfortunately I've not yet found a way to rename the apps in the app draw. I like things to be neat and labelled nicely which not only look better, but makes it easier to find things.
Is this any way possible to do once you're rooted up? Ideally I don't want to turn off the Sense UI interface and switch to something else because I quite like the Sense widgets. It's baffling why this option of renaming applications is not possible/much simpler.
Thanks in advanced for any help
Not looking good is it.. Lol
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Not sure if what you want is possible...
Sent from my T-Mobile G2
Of course its possible. Android is open source. Take the source for the launcher, make changes necessary to rename applications, compile, install.
Hint: Some other launchers that you may be able to download and install, even on a NON-ROOTED phone, may already have this ability.
Don't know if there is an easy way to do this in the stock Sense launcher.
Only way I know if you only want to do this to a few apps, and have the APK for those apps: There is an XDA user made app called APK Edit, which allows you to change the icon and name of the app. Just use this to edit the APK, then install the APK.

I don't feel comfortable shutting down ads on free apps. I mean, putting up with a little ad at the top/bottom of the screen is the least I can do if it means supporting a developer's efforts, even if I can't/won't buy their paid app.
And doing stuff like that is especially hard on developers from countries that can't sell apps in the market...
Therotically, morally i completely agree with you.
But i can't deny it is annoying too.
And consumes reasonable amount of data too.

totally agree with you on this one, I myself don't use privacy since I graduated from school . I also working in creative industry, I do know the value of intellectual properties and how important to protect them.
for the app that are up for selling and I liked the free version I will purchase the full version but just sometimes. some apps doesn't have paid or ad removed version and I really want the ads go away.
I never care the data as I am on unlimited plan but just hate those ads floating around
Another awesome App is Diskusage.

Kindle Fire HD xSettings
I recently discovered how to easily disable ads on the stock lockscreen on a Kindle Fire HD 7" and since the procedure was a bit complicated I decided to create a simple app that others can use to achieve this. I had also discovered a few other things that could be changed and decided to incorporate those as well. What started out as a basic app is evolving into a more extensive settings application for the Kindle Fire gang.
First and foremost, several of the features require root access so you must have root to really benefit from this app. The other thing you will need is the app itself which you can find at http://goo.im/devs/0xD34D/kfhd/KFHD_xSettings.apk
To install the app you will need to either move it to your SD card and then using a file explorer, such as ES File Explorer, select it and choose install. If you are familiar with ADB then you can always use adb install to install it as well.
FEATURES
LOCKSCREEN
Disable lockscreen ads - Get rid of those pesky lockscreen advertismenets
UI
Window animation scale - Adjust the duration of animations when application windows open and close
Transition animation scale - Adjust the duration of transition animations
MISCELLANEOUS
Stay awake - Screen will never sleep while charging
Battery info - Display extra battery info in Device settings
Developer options - Enable the developer options in Device settings
Text to speech settings - Choose your TTS engine and adjust the settings for it
SHORTCUTS
Power usage - AOSP style power usage with per process statistics
AOSP style settings - The standard AOSP style settings instead of Amazon's style
Wi-Fi information - Extra wifi settings and information not available to normal users
Usage statistics - Application usage statistics such as # of times launched and time used
Accessibility settings - Accessibility settings that are available on the 8.9" but not the 7"
Choose lockscreen type - Choose between none, slide, pattern, PIN, and password security lockscreen
Launcher debug mode - Advanced settings which control various aspects of the Amazon Kindle Fire launcher application
AOSP Camera app - Launches the standard AOSP camera application instead of Amazon's camera app

As I find more things that can be changed that the stock firmware does not allow, I'll update this app with those settings.

Yeah, for the most part, anything that says "**REQUIRES REBOOT**" also requires root access since it modifies an entry in the secure table of the settings database.

Thanks. The animations were always there but the UI settings give you the control of their duration. I tend to set mine to off so that there is minimal delay.
New update
I just updated the app with a new tab containing shortcuts to various settings and apps that are not accessible through normal usage. See the OP for a list of these new features and the second post for more screenshots which show what you now have access to.
Enjoy!

I looked for those and it appears amazon has left them out. I may be able to reproduce those settings from AOSP and include them in the app though.
Re: [APP][1/30/2012]KFHD Extended Settings
Gflorezarroyo & I (hola, dude!) Have been after those tts settings for weeks, now. Even a glimmer of hope rocks.
Thanks for all you do man, between this and root/play store I almost feel like I have a worthwhile tablet. Keep up the good work, appreciate what you do for the T-989 community as well.
Another suggestion to add to the wishlist of your excellent program: find "Allow mock locations" in GPS settings to make Kindle capable of receive data from an external real gps, bluetooth or tethering from a phone.

Oh thanks! I go slow with your app because yesterday I got a shock with "Explore by touch". If you turn it on, the Kindle needs two fingers to make a sliding..... and I could'nt even unlock the lockscreen!
I just published my first app to the Play store. A watch face. I would really like to add the ability to allow the user to customize the layout (color/pics) of the watch face from the phone. I've tried every tutorial, example, and info from Google's dev page that I could find online. I either get errors that don't allow me to build my project or it'll build but force closes when selecting the watch face.
Sorry I don't have any logs or anything. I kept getting frustrated with not being able to get it work and started focusing on getting the app somewhat finished to publish.
If this helps, here's my project in my dropbox:
