Hey everyone,
Is KaiOS similar enough to continue to use the Firefox OS forums for questions?
I just got the Nokia 8110 4G and I'm not sure where to go.
KaiOS doesn't seem to work with Google one time codes for 2FA, and I'm curious if this was/is also the case with Firefox OS.

If you sign into Google in the browser first with a one time code that seems to work for YouTube and Maps. I then set up my email using a one time password but it actually redirected out to the browser again for authentication and then returned to the mail app. For Calendar I had to use the one time password.
Hope that helps
CAT B35 running KaiOS enable Developer Menu and Recovery
Hello!
I just got my CAT B35 running KaiOS. I do not know how to boot to Recovery. I was trying red key+ D pad up, red key + 8 key, red key + D pad down, but unsuccessful.
Also no success in enabling Developer Menu.
Any ideas please? Thank you.
I have a question to nokia 8110 users.
when you enter settings/accessibility, do you find a feature called readout there?
kaios offers a screenreader for blind people called readout, but it seems every brand is free to remove parts of the os. so i would like someone with the newest update(the one in which whatsapp is included) to check this for me before i buy the phone. I realy hope this topic is still read.

Hi Guys,
Did a search on this and it appears WIFI Proxy's arn't available on the Hero which is damn annoying!
Any ideas when this might be available, I did find an app that might work but sadly didn't, it was on some google page somewhere! Doh!
anyone able to either point to another app, or know when this might get fixed!
Rich
Nope... Android doesn't support proxys over wifi at all.
Whilst Android does have a "HTTP Proxy" setting hidden away (the app you got modifys this setting) the only app that could use it was the web browser, but as of Android 1.5... Google in there infinate wisdom stopped or broke even that.
And I don't expect Google to add it any time soon... like most things that are basic fundamental settings that should have been in Android since day one (it was in development for years before it was announced wasn't it?) .
Its damn annoying!!! Can't use it at work at all..........really annoying...hope its fixed soon or someone builds an app!
Thanks for your response

Hi Guys,
Been a long time since I posted on this forum, back in the days of my T-Mobile MDA Vario! Thankfully moved on to a better operating system in the shape of Google's Android. Any way my question relates to the new Donut (1.6) update. I've had a read off the features for this update from the Google Android website but i'm having trouble using some of them.
http://developer.android.com/sdk/android-1.6-highlights.html
Text-to-speech
I've activated the settings for this in the Settings menu and downloaded the necessary voice pack from the market but so far can't seem to get it to work. Ideally i want it to be able to read back my text messages as this is very handy for when driving, but i can't find any options to turn this on. Anyone got any ideas?
Voice Dialling
Another feature useful while driving (hands free of course) and the normal way on most phones is of course to press and hold a certain button. I think I must have tried every button for this one but still can't find it.
Any help you guys can give would be great thanks.

Voice Dialing (and Voice Search) is not installed outside of US (and maybe AU).
If it was, you would have a microphone icon beside the google search button.
And for Voice dialing, you could just long press the green dial button (physical button)
oh right didn't realise that was a US only feature, guess I can wait till éclair for them to roll it out here. Any update on text-to-speech?

Try the application TalkBack . (it might be already installed on your phone, or install from market).
You can activate it in Settings-Accessibility. Then android menus/popups/... will be talked to you !
(you should also install Text-To-Speech Extended from market )
I thought It was time I spent some time enjoying android instead of just tweaking constantly. So I installed some games; one of them being iMobster.
I open the game app and it says I need to sign in with my Storm8 Account, (which I dont have yet)... there is no option on the app's signing page to register a new account.
So I googled storm8 and went to their site.... again there is no signup link. So I go to the storm8 forums and see a register link ("Don't have a Storm8 Account yet?").... but that just says that you register through the games settings menu....I CANT GET TO THE SETTINGS MENU WITHOUT SIGNING IN! Doh!!
Is it just Android versions of Storm8 Games that dont allow new users? Or are signups closed full stop? Or is This some form of 'attempted copy protection' caused by the HD2 not being a 'native' Android device?
I searched the storm8 forums for an hour and found nothing useful and I cant ask a question there as I dont have an account lol
Can anyone shed any light on this?
If there is NO WAY to sign up for us HD2 Android owners, does anyone have an old unused account that they want to donate? (Not looking to take a 'good' account here, would rather sign up myself if at all possible).
Anyone managed to signup using their HD2?
(PS I have installed 2 other storm8 games and they behave the same way...no signup )
I have no idea.
As this is not at all specific to the hd2 port of Linux (and android) I suggest moving this thread to the general XDA android section.
cheers

mods...could you please move the thread to the appropriate forum? thanks...and sorry
I had the same dilemma, I have tried many builds and it seems to only occur with FROYO builds, if you go back to Eclair you will be able to play your game, so I just use 2 sd cards one with Eclair and the other with Froyo.
Storm8 games are currently not compatible with froyo... many people on froyo are complaining about the interface glitches due to upgrading to froyo

ahhh that might be it then....maybe storm it disabled the signup option when one of their apps detects froyo?
thanks for the info
Is the solution still to use Eclair or did they update the game to work with Froyo?
Glad its just not me. Might just have my moms download it on her iPhone and then give me her username and password. I really want to play Zombies and Vampires Live.
you could try android 2.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734350 to sign up and return to 2.2 to play
i am trying it now and reporting back
EDIT: on android 2.2 all worked fine. i created an acount and went back to 2.2 to see that all storm8 games don;t recognize the login, they say the username and pass are incorect so maybe we just have to wait for and update,
hey, it could be worst http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-games/49726-storm8-games-reset-froyo-install.html
Unique Device ID is needed *#*#4636#*#* should show it
if not get Android ID from market
If you downgrade you should be able to create an online account thru the game then transfer this to the upgraded phone via the username / password login method ( can only be done once storm8 account is made from device ID )
or downgrade and create and acount and just use s8onpc ... ( yet to see if you can just create an new account knowing an ID number as all my phones are used atm ...)
Can you please eleborate how to use Android id to login??
vamp live on hd2
hi,
I ve installed it on hd2 with MDJ_FroYo_HD_v._4..... running on it and it worked fine. I ve played 2 days now and after the second day my account got banned unknown reason... and by the way I read this application is able to read your sms and phone number out of your phone, not cool if its true.
Each time i closed the application the profile was gone, so i decided to import it back using the settings menu , which worked well. .. until I got banned
I play all 8 storm8 games on my myTouch 3G with Froyo 2.2
On any game that you play, go to the main game page, you'll see a "gear" or "gog" icon near the bottom, select that icon. This brings you to another screen with 3 tabs, choose the tab labeled "Storm8". On this screen, mine account is already setup so it shows my information but if you haven't setup an account yet it will let you create one here or give you a web link to the Storm8 page.
Enjoy!
hi to all, it's my first time to be here! me and a friend of mine have joined a small competition that require for participating -of cours- to develop an android app! also we are a newbies in java developement and it's our first experience in android world, so my question is: is there a java or linux or c++ code that can power on an android device at a specific time? I googled a lot of time and i didn't got an answer. Please any suggestion or help? And sorry foy my bad english.
No definitely not!*
Because, you're app is only running if android has booted, so there is now way for your app.
The build-in Clock-App can't do it, too!
The only think you can do is, to unlock a booted phone.
Regards
-----
*There could maybe a way, for a specific phone, which has the hardware, which is needed and a SDK for developers for that hardware. But I don't know anyone.
Thanks for the replay. You speaked about the build-in clock app can't do it? it's indeed a reality! But why? unlike the android phone, when you set the alarm clock app in a Nokia phone and you shutdown the device.. the app is able to power on and boot the os!! So why it's not possible on android! is it something related to android architectur (layers)? maybe the hardware? can someone give me an explanation please.
Yes, I suppose you'll need specific hardware support. If the phone is really off, there needs to be some kind of timer that is still running, which can turn the phone on, so it can boot again, and then run some app for the alarm or whatnot.
Apparently Blackberry phones support it too, perhaps others as well, but it's not a common feature on Android phones.
Thanks you for the info.

there are many apps available on play store search and get it all working ....
Have a nice day
I dont know how to but its possible in Android because if you got to Settings --> Accessibility --> There is an option to turn on and off the device... So there must be a turn around for the same...
I also have a similar kind of Idea for my next app but dont know how to run my app when the phone is off or how to switch it on...
Maybe in rooted devices...Please let me know if you get anything similar.
Thanks
It was with great horror that I discovered that Google is now forcing the effin' Google Assistant down our throats. Home long press now launches this abomination of an app. Quickly figured out how to disable the crapware, but nowong press of home does nothing. So Google, of you are reading this....
I DON'T WANT TO BE TALKING TO MY PHONE ALL THE TIME, I HAVE A LIFE AND PEOPLE TO TALK TO.
Is there a way to recover the old functionality? I want long press to launch the old style Google app. If no, what is the version of the last update that does not include this POS software? I had not updated for a while and now this...
Apologies for fuming, it is just so freaking invasive on Google's part to ot even ask if I want to opt in.
PS setting ro.opa.eligible_device=false does NOT do the trick. Grrrr, this is getting more annoying by the minute
Someone on Reddit says you can change your language to US Virgin Islands to get the old now on tap back if that's what you're wanting. I haven't tried this myself though.

Yes, this works, the original source may be here
https://android.gadgethacks.com/how...ndroid-device-switch-back-google-now-0174676/
Unfortunately editing the build.prop does not seem to do the trick for me. I have to wonder how long before Google screws up that workaround.
I am curious, is there ANYONE out there who wants to ALWAYS talk to their phone and have the phone talk to them. Say you are in the middle of a meeting and want to quickly check on something. What is Google thinking? Or am I missing something?

You can still type in searches using the Google search bar without talking. I prefer Google Assistant to the old functionality but I guess everyone uses their phone differently. Most people likely consider GA an enhancement rather than an intrusion like you do. Many people were unhappy that it was only offered officially on the Pixel but you can't please everybody.
All you have to do is turn GA off within settings.

Sadly this is not true. When you disable it in settings and long press home it pops up and says, Google Assistant is currently disabled, would you like to enable it? Options for yes or no. Yes pops up with assistant and no just disabled the window with no further actions. It doesn't revert to the old now on tap functionality.
i want to delete Google Assistant permanently, any clue ?
I'm surprised this thread doesn't have more attention. Before I had assistant I was trying to get it early on my device but now I am trying to go back to now on tap just because of the ease of use and time it takes to get to google.
The best workaround I found was this SwipeUp utility app. You can press and hold either your home button or fingerprint scanner to open straight to the Google app instead of the popup assistant (which is basically a blank screen until you say something or press on the keyboard symbol to type a search) it works really well.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.AdrianCampos.swipeuputility
No solution's to this yet? This is absurd.
@tolol @applePhx in this thread someone recommends deleting the Google Home App folder from /system using twrp to get completely rid of Google Assistant. Haven't tested it though
