Hi everyone, I'm back in the android headunit game after 3 years and it seems things have moved on leaps and bounds!
However the same issues remain, namely the horrible UI that needs to be replaced as a first step.
That was what I thought at least until I watched this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FLB5RuB9Lf8
The headunit shown here has an extremely clean UI (an apple carplay ripoff) but crucially the stock apps all share the same UI.
Does anyone know what ROM this is for the stock apps and launcher to share the same UI?
If not does anyone know of a custom ROM out there that does this?
I am currently waiting on my new headunit to be delivered

And want to get up and running ASAP!
Any other useful tips/accomplishments that have been made in the android headunit scene in the last few years would also be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Did you ever found what launcher it was?

From a comment i made on the thread mentioned below, but seemed appropriate to start a new one considering lots of people have been looking to do this.
for any of those using launcher pro, and hate the default icons, ive attached the stock froyo ones for browser and phone. if you are an htc sense user and want a stock froyo experience without root/ custom roms then downloading launcher pro and using these icons is the easiest way to do it. if u want the stock android phone/contacts app, download dailer one and link it to the froyo phone icon (by long pressing) in launcher pro. bearing in mind the launcher2 phone icon is hardlinked to the stock android phone app, which is impossible to install on htc phones. this is the closest you can get, and it does a pretty good job!
i have also tweaked the nexus icon from another thread to fit.
it was coming up very small as the app drawer icon in launcher pro. screenshot and files for all icons attached.
ive also attached the froyo stock app drawer icon, the launcher pro one is close but a bit big and doesnt quite match the style
i know no-one has directly asked for all this info but ive been reading the forums and a lot of people want to do this so thought i had to share the knowledge somewhere! i can take credit for very little, all i have done is edit an icon and congregated stuff ive found into one place. from my own experience wanting to do this i found it very frustrating that those with sense but wanting stock had to resort to 'almost but not quite' solutions. ive also found that a lot of supposedly stable roms are far from it. this ensures a bug/ fc free experience. you get complete stock functionality but with the visual appeal and the added dock buttons from froyo.
please link this info on to any forum you might think could need it, also, if some kind soul could upload mirrors to the images for those who arent members (this thread is aimed primarily at them) and embedded photos of the screen grabs would also be appreciated, i dont have the permissions. thanks a lot, hope this stuff is useful!

Hello!
From Samsung Stock apps I really liked two, Feeds and Updates and BuddiesNow. Can somebody recommend some of the similar apps? I can't install the originals because of the TouchWiz.
I installed the Pumpkin head unit earlier this year and what a freaking POS. It's unbelievably slow and the radio tuner app is the lamest looking thing ever. Is it possible to replace the radio tuner app with something better looking and a better layout? Mine has an entire screen and it shoves the RDS data into an eight character space inside of a rainbow. SMH. also to unlock the home screen and remove the ugly clock they have on the home screen? thank you
I have installed a radio from another ROM and its working. Its not much better, but its better. You can install other launchers, but most have more RAM usage that will cause more problems. Installing another Launcher is the only way to get rid of the clock (or just swipe to another screen and don't look at it!)
I will be working on trying to optimize the ROM a bit in the coming months and may build my own Launcher for it. For now, it has Viper4Android installed and root, and its working with Torque and thats a huge improvement from what most have done!
Hi,
I am a bit intrigued by the Zeblaze Thor 4 and I was hoping you guys could help me out a bit. I was wondering if this Smartwatch was capable of running Android apps well, do apps generally recognise the circular screen and adjust their layout according or does it just show a rectangular shape?
If it's not too much to ask, can you please share a screenshot of the apps you use..
Thanks.
I've been searching endlessly to no avail and really hope someone on here can help, as I'm running out of hair to remove. I bought a Sciecane 9" unit for my 2009 Forester, and while Ive been playing around with different launchers, one thing remains annoyingly consistent. Every time any app requests notification access ( for music stuff, by in large), I get " This feature is not available on this device". Like, what? This pretty much renders a lot of functionality useless with different launchers, which stinks because the one it ships with is so barebones. Does anyone have any suggestions of why this is happening or how to fix it?
Thanks a million in advance,
Alex.
Notifications are dealt with usually by the SystemUI. No launcher will bring you this feature back. SystemUI is part of the Android system image and cannot be exchanged/modified easily.
Ask your dealer for an update that brings back the Notification feature as it is known from all the Android devices.
Or you try a Custom ROM like Hal9k if your device is a MTCB/D/E device.
