Hello!
From Samsung Stock apps I really liked two, Feeds and Updates and BuddiesNow. Can somebody recommend some of the similar apps? I can't install the originals because of the TouchWiz.

From a comment i made on the thread mentioned below, but seemed appropriate to start a new one considering lots of people have been looking to do this.
for any of those using launcher pro, and hate the default icons, ive attached the stock froyo ones for browser and phone. if you are an htc sense user and want a stock froyo experience without root/ custom roms then downloading launcher pro and using these icons is the easiest way to do it. if u want the stock android phone/contacts app, download dailer one and link it to the froyo phone icon (by long pressing) in launcher pro. bearing in mind the launcher2 phone icon is hardlinked to the stock android phone app, which is impossible to install on htc phones. this is the closest you can get, and it does a pretty good job!
i have also tweaked the nexus icon from another thread to fit.
it was coming up very small as the app drawer icon in launcher pro. screenshot and files for all icons attached.
ive also attached the froyo stock app drawer icon, the launcher pro one is close but a bit big and doesnt quite match the style
i know no-one has directly asked for all this info but ive been reading the forums and a lot of people want to do this so thought i had to share the knowledge somewhere! i can take credit for very little, all i have done is edit an icon and congregated stuff ive found into one place. from my own experience wanting to do this i found it very frustrating that those with sense but wanting stock had to resort to 'almost but not quite' solutions. ive also found that a lot of supposedly stable roms are far from it. this ensures a bug/ fc free experience. you get complete stock functionality but with the visual appeal and the added dock buttons from froyo.
please link this info on to any forum you might think could need it, also, if some kind soul could upload mirrors to the images for those who arent members (this thread is aimed primarily at them) and embedded photos of the screen grabs would also be appreciated, i dont have the permissions. thanks a lot, hope this stuff is useful!

Hi guys,
Sorry if this seems like a silly question, but the mail app, camera apps, and customised explorer are the ONLY parts of the official Sense builds I'd actually miss.
The answer may be around somewhere, but I haven't seen it yet; is it possible to get these apps by themselves for use on a NON-SENSE ROM. So for example if I was to go to Oxygen, I'd get all the benefits of an AOSP ROM and the additional speed, but retain the customised camera, internet and mail app.
Honestly everything else I use can be downloaded from the market, its just these apps I miss when I move away from HTC/Leedroid, infact Im quite happy with Zeam as a launcher.
this has been asked and answered a million times already...
you cant run sense apps on an aosp rom - they require the sense framework to be running, which doesnt exist on a rom that doesnt include sense.
you can run a launcher such as zeam on a sense rom though, and the htc apps should work (dont think the widgets will)
Hi all!
i'm getting galaxy tab this week, (yes i'll not wait for tab2) and i'm wondering if theres a way to get the normal look of android??
i mean, i've watch tons of videos an that, and i'd love to have the normal android feel not the original that comes with tab.
i now that on htc, we can deactivate "sense" on tab is also posible??
thank you!!!
(sorry my bad english)
I think you are referring to the samsung's android "skin" called TouchWiz. You can replace it with any launcher you want: launcher pro, ADWLauncher ex, or my personal favourite Go Launcher ex.
Hi!
thanks, thats it, i want to disable touchwiz but it seems that is not possible unless i install another rom.
with launchers, its possible to reduce ram use of touchwizz, to not overload the tab.?
thankx
You do not need another rom or to be rooted to install another launcher,
I have ADW EX on the tab (usually use touchwiz though, just got it to take a look). You can just simply download it (or any other) on the market, install and then click home to "set as default".
I don't know anything more complicated like the touchwiz ram issues though, someone more expert will have to partake for that
Have fun ^_^
Thanks!!
i'll try ADW EX, i've check some videos and it seems awsome !
Hi friends.
I've been mooving around so many roms and now I finally know, that stock and stock like roms (IN MY CASE) will always end up messed up and laggy and buggy and unstable and and and...
So now I stick with MIUI, which in fact satisfies me. Except the notion, that I really like the messaging, and moreover contact book that go with the stock.
They have some really nice UI features that I love.
So the bottom line: Is there a way, I could extract those apps from Stock and install into MIUI?
If so, then how?
Installing is easy. Harder is extracting.
Any hints?
You can extract it from any CWM ROM based on Stock, but I do not think it will work -> missing Samsung frameworks, libs, etc.
Oh, that easy. Will give a try.
Yeah,I know that it will probably fail

I'd be very interested to know if you had any success with this. I've just flashed CM9RC2 and loving it, but I'm finding the dialler, contacts and calender apps to be a real let-down compared to the stock Samsung ones (so much so I might have to go back to stock ROM)
No-one has ported them - they 100% work.
I too miss these features (and the music player) enough that I went back to stock roms.

In the Theme & App session there is a MMS.apk modify that look very similar to Samsung default version.
*sorry, wrong post*
Hy guys
Can anyone here tell me pls what samsung actually changed on android. I am running android version 4.2.2 and got o course the touchwiz looks as a skin.
But I have also happend to notice that every basic app on this device is completely different than it is shown on googles system.
For examle the phone app the messege app the galery app and most off all the settings app are all samsung costom.
Did samsung change only the skin of these apps or are they completely new apps and why cant I find googles alternative of these app on the playstore nor anywhere else.
Whenever I read about touchwiz it says that it is only a UI and can be changed but the apps I mentioned never change and theire all part of touchwiz.
So wouldent it be fair to say that touchwiz is a comletely new operating system that can run android apps.
But then again updates for android happen to bring everytim mostly changes to the ui so how can anyone say to be running android 4.3 for example and at the same time have touchwiz just look at the changelog of android 4.3
Thanks
TW isn't just a skin. as you have already mentioned it goes a lot deeper, having its own apps, own dialer, own contacts etc.
even some helpful features as smart stay, smart pause.
one easy way to get rid off most of the TW looks is to install a new launcher (like nova launcher). but there will still be a lot of TW in the background. to completly avoid TW you have to install a custom rom (like CM or GE) with a vanilla android look & feel
thanks for the reply
so it is in fact a new operating system and not just an overlay.
then what is the benefit of updateing to android 4.3 with touchwiz when one of the new features on 4.3 is that you get dialing suggestions when you dial a number on the dialing pad. this feature is long time ago included in touchwiz.
how deep exactly does samsung realy go with changeing android and what benefit exactly would i have from updating to a new touchwiz version that is labeled as being based on android 4.3
come on guys help a noob

TW and GE (google edition) both have their own features. and there is no TW based on 4.3 yet. that's one of the advantages of AOSP, you get updates earlier. samsung needs time to build its own 4.3 TW.
just have a look at both and then decide which one is best for you.
