Headphones don't work - Asus Zenfone Max Questions & Answers

Hello. I have Asus Zenfone Max (Z010D, Snapdragon 410, rooted, TWRP 3.0) and I've installed AIM rom 3.0 (Android 8.0) and there's written bug, that headphones (jack) don't work. And reason why am I asking is that jack works. I mean it like if I plug my amplifier in it there's soung going out of it, but external (phone's) speaker is still turned on. Is here any way to turn off just speaker and let sound go in jack? Thanks for normal answers.

G1 not switching to headset when plugged in

Hi forum,
I was too fast and bricked my old G1, so I got one from Craigslist, flashed it correctly with CM5.0.7, 5.0.8test4, and with SpeedTeam 1.2 and 2.0. The phone stays playing music through the speaker when ExtUSB headset is plugged in (as opposed to expected switching audio to headphones).
I didn't check this functionality on stock firmware.
There is togggleheadset app which was supposed to fix some bug in 1.5 which actually switches the audio to headset as expected, but then freezes and one has to reboot the phone to get audio back to the speaker.
Did anyone experience this? Can it be fixed so the phone behaves as expected, that is switching to audio when plugged into a headset?
Thank you.

[Q] Headphone jack

So as most of us know the mic on the TF sucks completely for video chatting. Has anyone figured out how to just hook up a mic to the TF without it turning off the TF speakers?
Right now I have a removable mic from my Razor headset that I can plug into any mic jack and use it on, but since the jack on the TF is for headphones and mic, it disables the sound from playing on the internal speakers.
I'm going to try and dig around on the back end to see if I can find the code that disables the speakers, but I was just wondering if anyone has come across this yet?

My mic is detected as headphones, even worse off than you. You need to get those 1-to-2 splitter for iPad/iPhones, no way of not turning the speakers off (unless you modify the kernel source and compile your own)

[Q] Headphones problem

Has anyone noticed a problem with using headphones? I have tried 4 different pairs and only managed to get 1 pair working properly. The problem is that when you plug the headphones in the small headphones icon appears in the lower right hand side but when you play the music it comes through both the headphones and also the speaker. It seems to be the headphones are not seating properly.
same problem!!
yess i have the same problemm!!!
i realised that to fix this problem, you have to plug in the headphones while firstly playing any songs through the tablet speakers, then it detects there's headphone plugged in.
This is issue is really pissing me off!! i hope they fix it asap!
yes i had that problem and felt like an idiot when i finally realised that i was sharing my music with everyone on the bus!
very weird problem which has stopped me from listening to music on my a500 even though the audio quality is superior to my Sony Ericsson X10 and my HTC Sensation.
Thanks for the tip - I'll try it out tonight!

this trick works for me too, but only while the audio is playing through the specific app. if i stop music while doing this trick and change to video it out puts the video out of both speakers and headphones again.
It really has nothing to do with the jack seating, it has to do with the audio mixer and the jack detection.
it should be fixed eventually (hoping with ICS) but for now I have to take my headphones off and check the output like a weirdo anytime I want to switch apps using headphones.
Hi, I have also this problem but I noticed another strange thing : when you listen to a track using headphones the stereo image looks moved slightly to the right, it's not well centered. Is it only a problem of my A500 or is it general ?
Thanks
Ramp
Are you guys using non-stock ROM or something? I am on stock 3.1 and I am not having any kinds of issues with it, headphones work just fine and the stereo image is as centered as it should. Or maybe it's your headphones, have you tried with other devices?
I'm on Taboonay 2.1 and i can't remember noticing it when i was using stock rom. I only noticed it because i felt the slight vibration coming from the speakers. I have got 1 Set of headphones that work really well with it and it only happens with my other headphones which weren't exactly cheap (typical) but they all work on everything else i plug them into, so i think it's more to do with the seating of the headphones rather than the rom because i've got a pair that work fine, although i now have some doubt so i'm going to try them all out again to make sure
Same problem here, with Taboney 2.1 and different head phones.
Hi, just upgraded to 3.2 original and now everything comes out in mono. No stereo from headphones. Anyone having the same prob? Wow, things are getting even worse....

I had this same problem too on stock HC 3.1
The trick works for me; but is rather annoying trying to drive and play music at the same time
I have recently changed to Lightspeed ROM with Thor 3.7 (the rest) kernel and have not experienced any sound issue yet =]
I have some problems with the last Tabooney 3.2 ROM and headphones too.
Sound goes through headphone and tab speakers.
I noticed that if I unplug and plug headphones twice or three times I could only have sound into headphones and works well.
I never used OTA ROM so, can't say if it works well with it, but there is a prob with Taboonay's ROM.
I can't post in DEV thread (regard to my posts count).

Had the same problem with mine. could be dust in there, either blow air in there w/ your mouth (remember Nintendo?) or with a "compressed air duster". I used the mouth method and it worked.
that being said I've had the same issue in the past with a Samsung phone, turned out there was a loose wire connecting to the jack and the only way to fix it would be to open and solder.
I had issues with my tab 4 7.0's charger hole, there were so much dust i couldnt recharge (it disconnected all time) and i blew there and after that recharging started working fine! I cant understand how my other tablets and phones wont do same but only this tab.

LG G6 (870DS) DAC DoA?

Hello folks, got the G6 via mail today and everything was fine until I tried to enable the HiFi dac and then I was devastated.
It played music just fine then I switched on the hifi and it would pauce but instead of playing again it stops and all I get is a hissing noise with some weird dial up Internet sounds
Am I missing some box I was suppose to tick? I factory reset and it did not fix it. I feel it's a hardware issue and needs to replaced.. thoughts? What's wrong?
Here's a video of the problem: https://youtu.be/1Y62BTECLy8
All comments appreciated, thank you
i think you can not enable the dac while youre headpone is connected , you should first enable it and then when you connect your headphone it wil recognize the impedance and then the dac is automaticly enabled
hmmmm ... on low-impedance earbuds, it doesn't come on at all, although i can enable it and it does nothing. on high-impedance headphones it comes on automatically.
no the dac is made for 80 a 100 Ohm and higher offcoarse
I want to put your mind at ease. This happens to me sometimes. What kind of headphones are you using? If they don't have an in line mic then you can sometimes get some weird sound cutoffs with it. This has to do with the headphone jack being a "smart" headphone jack. The headphone jack has to detect impedance after all so it has to have some tech that won't be in your run of the mill headphone jack. Trying plugging in something with an in line mic just to verify and also you can trying jiggling and rotating in the jack with your current headphones a little bit.
This happens to me occasionally when I try to use aux cables in my car. It can get weird. It also sometimes interprets movement of the aux cable as pressing the pause button on an in line headphone mic controller etc. I wouldn't be worried about it until you troubleshoot this part.
Attach a 50 Ohm or higher headphone and the DAC will be available.
Headphone used is the ATH M50x
I got hope from your posts, went to a nearby store to try out the G6 they had with my headphone
Theirs had no problem playing with HiFi Dac enabled with the M50x, so it definitely is my units problem which sucks.
*Update*
Where I live, India, LG thankfully has a DoA program (10 days) where they replace it new at the service centre after a bit of formalities are done. Good news, I'll get a new replacement through them instead of shipping the phone to the original seller (with my money) and getting a new replacement from seller.
Just to double-check...
Guys,
I'm in the process of buying a smartphone mostly for the sound quality (so I can ditch my Nano), Wifi, screen, waterproofness and GPS functionality as I'm a semi-permanent traveller. I have expensive earbuds that I'm very happy with and that I'd like to keep, having compared them with 25+ (?) others. HOWEVER... Am I interpreting these messages correctly if I start thinking that with my 16 Ohm (@ 1kHz) finding any audiophile quality on a smartphone is just a pipe dream?? That would be terrible news...
