(CERTAIN) No 7.x Nougat for Honor 5X in the future

So from speaking to a Honor USA support representative today about if the Honor 5X KIW-L24 USA Variant would get Android 7.x Nougat in the future, this is the response.
Miles S
Hi there! Thank you for reaching Honor Device USA. How may I be of help today?
Jordan
Hello, I was wondering if Android 7.0 Nougat is going to be released to the Honor 5X KIW-L24 US Variant?
Miles S
Hey Jordan!
It's not, our Honor 5X is topping out at Marshmallow. However, it will still receive some updates.
Jordan
I was told by another representative that it would early 2017, is that just lies then?
Miles S
I wouldn't say that, our Honor 8 will get 7.0, just not our 5X.
Jordan
I thought that both devices would get supported for at least 2 years upon release, and the Honor 5X has only been released for 10 months, only 2 months away from a year.
Miles S
I'm just passing down the information I get. Honor 5X will still get support, but it won't be making the move to 7.0.
Jordan
Is it because of the hardware (CPU) Snapdragon 616 that is not allowing it to be upgraded to 7.0?

Possibly, we haven't gotten an exact reason yet.
(So TLR, better get a Honor 8, or buy another phone, or wait for CM14 with 7.0 Nougat for the Honor 5X, because that's probably the best hope we have)
This is regarding the USA variant (KIW-L24), not sure about other regions, but it'll probably be the same. Well, cross your fingers for CM14/7.x Nougat for the Honor 5X guys =\.
So despite this phone being only at least 10 months only, being released January of 2016, it seems it will "top off" at Marshmallow, and not make the advance to 7.x Nougat, even though Honor promised at least 2 years of software support for the 2 phones (Honor 8 / Honor 5X) This is a shame, will probably go buy a OnePlus 3 later on to replace this phone knowing it will be stuck on Marshmallow.

Hi mate,
This is certainly a shame that HUAWEI USA isn't planning for nougat... But the thing is huawei has different R&D teams in different regions. & as far media goes, The Honor USA team isn't up to the notch as most of the teams american members were ... Errrm.... How should I put is, shame on huawei :/
So I'm not given ng up though... Certainly there will be CM14 & I think most active Huawei R&D is China & India. So we can still expect I suppose .
Cheers.

According to media sources, Huawei sacked the entire Honor US team. It is now believed that the company has no concrete plans for US as Huawei walked out of Google’s Pixel plans.
So it might be possible though.
I won't agree that its due to the processor. Because Honor 5X runs on Snapdragon 616 which supports Vulcan API unlike Snapdragon 200. So processor is not the reason.
dont worry we have custom ROM coming up with android 7

Yeah, we can only hope for CM14 bundled with 7.x Nougat, because of the up most news of Huawei getting rid of their Honor USA team, so that news certainly does not help or reinforce the idea of Honor 5X KIW-L24 getting any variant of 7.x Nougat anytime soon. CROSSING FINGERS FOR DEVELOPERS OF CM14!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

At least that rules out 1 factor of why it might not get 7.x Nougat, but I'm betting it's all because of Huawei basically pulling out of the US all together.

So you think 2 years of support equals the latest OS? They said it would be supported for two years. They appear to be standing by that commitment.
You will get updates and security fixes for two years. Thank you Honor!

They are on their promise. I am planning for an upgrade, and since honor 8 looks it won't get any custom ROMs (probably) I will go with either a 1+3, nexus 6p or pixel if it turns out it's worth it

I know exactly how you feel. I've had the phone about three weeks myself. I keep switching back and forth between EMUI and custom ROMs because I like a lot of the features the built into EMUI, the phone does seems to run less efficient on stock so I'm still on the fence over what should be my DD. But anyways, I really hope Huawei doesn't leave the US altogether. That would be a shame. They produce a top notch product for the price. And this is in regards to all of their phones and price points.

G6 Oreo update... How much longer?

Been reading through xda and other websites for a while now and i gotta say, I'm very disappointed with how long it takes LG to release oreo for the G6. No beta program, no info of when they are planning to release, not even a leaked oreo for LG flagship device. Last year LG was one of the first to release Nougat for the G5, this year pretty much every mobile phone manufacturer has already released oero for their phones (final or beta) and LG... Well... Hasn't!!! Maybe we should remind LG that they released the G6 phone, cause they're so quiet about oreo update for it, it feels like they've forgotten they put a flagship device called LG G6 out on the market. Soooooo disappointing :/
Mind that they released no update for European G6 for more than 4 months, maybe in April we will receive march patch, and Oreo when P will be announced... Lol
if the update is important for you just sell your G6 and buy any other phone from other brand

Not saying it is sooooo important, but it would be nice to see that LG actually cares, considering they are one of the main companies on the market. Hell... Even an official info about release date would be ok.
And the screen you attached... That's like from end of october. And since then... Nothing.

In my humble opinion we shouldn't be holding our breath. Most customers of these phones are not techie freaks like us, and don't really care about the underlying OS version, especially because the LG skin provides a lot of additional features anyway. I think LG knows this, and what most interests their customers is that their phones just work quickly, reliably and smoothly, with the features they have. LG probably couldn't give a hoot about us nut cases who can't wait to get their hands on the latest OS version that somebody else has.

Funny thing... Not long after i created this topic, comes a post from liushangrong with screenshots of a 19a preview oreo build for LG G6. Korean website and screens from Korean G6 running oreo. I've never seen those screens before, has anyone of you guys? I can only think of 2 things here.
1. Coincidense
2. LG know they're late with oreo update and have their employee keeping an eye out for any signs of disappointment here on xda, and if such is seen, giving a proof of oreo update being worked on.
Sounds crazy? Maybe, but it's just something that came to my mind :/

If you can get the 5T, I'd say go for it. The 7X has Treble support (hopefully) going for it, which OnePlus and Xiaomi don't have. That's the reason I ordered mine, despite it having a non-Snapdragon chip.
Yep, one of the most important reasons I am considering to get an honor 7X is the same reason as you. So you've ordered one? How is the performance so far? And they are announcing a new Honor flagship View10 I suppose, wondering how is this one?

It'll take a while for mine to get here (1 week) because it's shipping from China (the US version only has 3GB RAM). Honestly I'm more of a computer guy so high-end phone flagships don't matter to me. A budget device with a good screen and battery that I can use to call and message, do social media, and read books on is all I need. The 7X seemed like a good fit considering the price, and with Treble support hopefully I can keep the device updated with a stock AOSP build on it for a while.

I got mine from eBay. It was pretty cheap (don't know if it was a boxing day deal or not), so I'm pretty happy with that. To be honest though, if your Nexus 5X is fine then I don't see a reason to get a new device. I would use the 7X as my spare if I had the 5X haha.

The 5X is 2+ years old at this point, and it seems that support for it is slowing down as far as custom ROMs etc. I do have mine running Android 8.1 with custom kernel and root, but sometimes it starts doing random reboots, which is annoying.

"Hi everyone,
Including our camera improvements and the latest Android security patch, the OxygenOS 5.0.4 update for OnePlus 3 and 3T was released worldwide last week. Since it was launched, we've been listening to questions asking about our next major update for the OnePlus 3 and 3T. After internal discussions and evaluation, we have decided to focus our development resources on the Android P project instead of upgrading the device to Android 8.1, so that we can offer more exciting features and improvements for our OnePlus 3 and 3T users.
Over the past few months, we have been working closely with Google on the Android P Beta program. Thanks to everyone’s participation and continued feedback, the progress we have made together has been greatly accelerated. The Android P update will be available on the OnePlus 6, OnePlus 5/T and OnePlus 3/3T, in this order. We will keep you all updated in the coming months.
Cheers,
Gary"

Omg. This is the best news i have heard in a while!
Please keep all news/discussion related to OxygenOS 6.0 in this thread only. Any new thread opened regarding ETA/etc will be closed.
P.S. - looks like I won't upgrade any time soon
It's a really nice gesture from Oneplus and i applaud them for it. There's plenty of life left in these devices still!
I hope that with P they will implement Camera2 API correctly, so no more scrolling and hanging.
Great news! I only hope they will keep their promises. And i hope too that they bring eas to the op3/t since they are working with google

OnePlus 2 and the Nougat upgrade. They made forum posts and announced it on their Twitter that they will be upgrading the 2 to N, but they let it be and slowly forgot about it.
The good old 2 is still on MM Blobs. So yeah, OnePlus did not update it and keep to their promise, but it was a failed device so we need to take that into consideration too.
If they do keep their promise... That's 4 version of Android that the OnePlus 3/t went through that's above and beyond in the android world... If they use treble for our devices it shows that treble could allow us to have longer support... I'm glad I went back to OnePlus after OnePlus one I went to nexus due to the bad feedback from OnePlus 2 but eventually decided to buy the OnePlus 3 with my gut feeling. A good move I guess by me

We can only hope. I doubt it, but considering they are upgrading it to Android P (Already something they said they wouldn't do) its not out of the question
actually OP3/3T doesn't need any effort about Android update from oneplus
just give full " project treble "compatibility with the existing stable build that's it we can do the rest

They have brought up about working with Google about treble... They could bring it over... Huge question mark on this topic to be honest

Actually no. Having P Blobs for Custom ROMs would be great because Developers can build their ROMs over much more recent and up to date Blobs rather than using Oreo Blobs. Therefore, getting P is quite a milestone, even for Custom ROM users.

Failed device or not, they had to update it as they said or at least lower the price of the op3 for the ppl that bought that failed device.
Everyone expected from a brand like one plus to get at least 2 major android updates like every other brand does.
I think its a lie.

That was my first thought too. The whole Android 'P' development cycle should be in better shape because of this.
There is article on XDA why OP 3/3T cannot have project Treble ( I am too lazy to search it ), you may search yourself.
If we really will get Android P, that's awesome too. finger crossed.

does mi a1 really get Android Q 10 ?

Can we trust the news that androidcentral website published which mentioned mi a1 will get Android 10?
That reminds me about latest May update.
70Mb of a mere security patch with no actual bug fixes from Xiaomi. Guided by that, and the same kind of question when P appeared... Well it was more like a miracle and a compromise of Xiaomi to reach their goal, no matter how.
Just read around to see how unsatisfied are many users about jumping to P without giving according support for rising new bugs.
just flash a custom 9.0 and you will be happy.

Dude, at least they give monthly security patches and this is an old budget device, I am happy with whatever support we've been given by Xiaomi and would be really grateful if they released Android Q, no matter the bugs... (the sources help, and reduce developer burden)

You shouldn't just be "happy", as it is mandatory to release monthly security updates for Android one devices. About android Q, I personally think they won't release it as Xiaomi has already f***ed up my Mi A1 with bootloops and wifi problems. If they're going to release Q, then all the bugs on pie must be fixed before that.

Well, that really sounds too good to be true.
If I read the original ad for A1, Xiaomi isn't obligated to do that so I wouldn't hold my breath...
...that sounds ok... for Mi A2...
I'd try to chat again and confirm if that update is actually planned for Mi A1 (tissot).

I've seen the screenshot from your chat, and it says that the Mi A1 will get an update on late November. He was most likely talking about the montly security update, not the Android 10 update.

When there are still September and October security update to release, why he / she should mention about late November??? I think he really means Android 10.

Even if it were to come (which it wont), there is no way it would be with us by November, Xiaomi aren't exactly renowned for speedy updates, why would they rush out an unnecessary update and they don't even have a beta group now.
