Hello everyone,
I've been reading about the new google project Android go which will bring all the low resources phones android 8.1 optimizing the ram usage and many other aspects so that 8.1 can run smoothly.
Our galaxy s5 is now getting a "low end" phone even if it is simply amazing, so I was thinking, for people like me who love touchwiz, android go is a new hope to get android 8.1 officially and to give a new and longer life to our loved phone.
How about it developers? do you think it will be possible to get a ported versione for our galaxy s5? At the moment it seems that lineageOs staff is working on it already.
How about you galaxy s5 users? would you like to have it on your phone? what do you all think about it?
I'm happy to read your impressions and hopes, please leave a comment :fingers-crossed:

Thank you....I was hoping to get a "ported" version of the android go from samsung to get and "official" android 8.1 on our galaxy s5 keeping the great camera quality and audio quality avoiding to move to a non touchwiz rom, it would be great! I personally think that it won't be something impossible and I hope to see it soon on xda I tried already the file in the link and I personally don't notice a great improvement on a 6.0.1 android rom as it is optimized for 8.1 android. anyway thank you so much :good::good::good:

You won't notice any big difference since the S5 hardware is still capable of handling Android 8 flawlessly, you may notice some improvement on increased internal storage capacity and ram management when running a lot of apps.

Did you mean like we will get official android 8.1 touchwiz rom?? Ported tw roms available but almost roms are unstable. Am glad if developers design new official android 8.1 tw rom to s5 without porting other tw phones rom.

thanks kenny for the reply, but is there any way to make it happen??
I'm very pleased with the lock and feel of pure android 5.1.1, and really want to have my gear back working with the phone

Same here. There was a workaround for 5.0 but not 5.1.1 yet. And for devs making cm another tw is not in the plan. The problem is not cm, but Samsung and any other companies that build apps for their own build of Android.
Look at play store, almost all apps there are working on any android hardware wise supported phones. Just like they work on cm.
I have a gear 2 and a note 3 running CM12.1. I chose to port Android Wear to the watch and very happy with it, even though the battery life is not as good, the overall watch experience is much better (no speakerphone or camera). Much better notifications, and the available apps seem better.

The secret lies in TW framework, my dear
I hope someone will give us a clue, cause I'm not going back to TW, at least on my current phone the note 3, and I really want to be able to pair my watch again

Yes, but what is the point making cm another tw? No devs will ever do it. The problem is Samsung that builds apps only flag tw.

Take a look at the Gear 2 section on XDA
Hello all!
This is my first post on XDA, I was just wondering how Android Betas work... I know how iOS works because that was my main driver for a year when I thought the iOS market was superior. (Please ignore that comment when replying... xD), you just loaded a simple file.
But the Android Betas seem different...
I have a S7 Edge so:
is it possible to trick the beta into working on an S7?
Does it even work that way?
Or would it just break on loading the OS?
I'm a fairly tech-y guy, so you don't need to necessarily dumb it down for me.
Thanks !
EDIT 1:
Oops! Forgot to be specific! I meant Android Betas like Android N!

What betas are you speaking of? For apps, the betas are under "Early Access" in the play store. Other apps (if the developer chooses) have an option to opt-in to beta releases at the bottom of the app description (see screenshot).

I understand what you ask.
1st thing is we wish it was as easy as nexus!
As exynos is closed source we can't make it boot without issues. Read 1st post of CM13 thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-edge/development/cyanogenmod-13-galaxy-s7-edge-t3414697
It's exactly the same as attempting to install and boot an N preview. Hopefully that may clear things a little ??

Yes, they've released the open source parts of their kernel but none of the necessary code to run on the s7 with success right out the box.
Samsung will compile N once it's fully released by Google but with touchwiz UX and Samsung bloat lol. Rumours of an N beta build for s7 is being tested internally by Samsung as some comments in the firmware thread in the guides section but no vanilla android for us S7 owners for a while.
thats one of the cons of owning a samsung device..you will never experience true stock android on a samsung device although they did have a galaxy s5 google play edition but not anymore

Its a shame they don't have galaxy google play editions anymore
I have a AOSP tablet and even had a chinese AOSP phone that had like 20 different OS's. I sold the phone cause it wasn't as awesome as my S6. I had a choice to get a nexus phone or lg g5 or xperia. But I chose S7 Edge cause it was simply better. AOSP is nice when it comes to modding it etc but after like a week or two it just gets slightly boring. I also had a lot of IPhones and an IPad but S7 Edge so far is waaay better than all of them.
I got this question while I was searching for a rom with android 7.0 but with grace/dreamux, another question I got, is if will be possible to port the new features of android p beta (Samsung experience, good lock 2018, multitasking etc) to s5, thanks.
@unkupo This is because touchwiz ROMs are officially released by Samsung, with that said each device has its lifespan that Samsung provides updates support.......the device in question here is quite old, Samsung felt it wasn't capable of running their 7.0 smoothly without any lag and drawbacks due to hardware limitations...hence no S5 touchwiz 7.0....8.0....etc.....as for your other question, I don't know about all that, but I do know that lineage 16 (android 9) custom ROM will be available for the s5, well it is there as I write this, but not ready for daily use

glad to be of help, I hear you on that bro though the best thing about getting the latest ROM is the security updates provided, at the moment I use DotOs 2.4 .....haven't looked back since I moved from touchwiz, in fact the moment I got my s5 back then, I immediately changed out touchwiz

I'm just stuck at touchwiz because of the features that I use, like increase the touch sensibility, the sensors, best camera quality and some other things that come in hand without need third party apps, but I really love aosp experience :')
I have a rooted sm-t580 tablet and I'd like to delete all the Google apps including Google play services, samsung services and apps.
Is there a tutorial to help me delete all unnecessary apps safely?
Also... How do I disable Knox?
Is MicroG compatible with the tablet?
I don't see the point. May as well ijust nstall a custom rom, there's plenty of them available.

Is there a particular rom you'd recommend?
The tablet uses an Exynos cpu and the Samsung skin feels a very slow and sluggish compared to my six year old Nexus 7 2013.

I suggest just taking a look in the development section.
Might be worth going for a nougat or oreo rom as these will be more mature with less bugs.

Just my opinion, but the Pie ROMs appear faster and more "mature" to me. The DEVs have pretty much abandon earlier versions and are putting all their efforts into 64 bit Pie.
edit: And using the Pico gapps just about gets rid of all of the bloat.
I have seen that many phones like the galaxy S3 still have support with the new roms and have even reached android 12. I would like to see android 9/10/11/12 on this tablet, I don't care about lag, I don't care about bugs , is there anyone who tried to build a rom? I would be very interested.

Mighty is one who did successfully build android 8.1 for it. You could ask him about building android ROMS for it
Busy with irl things nowadays, it might take sometime for the new roms, afaik we can go till android 11 relatively easily, 12 needs major kernel updates for internet(wlan)
