A few questions about the phone

Hi,
My questions are:
1 - Does any variant of the phone have NFC?
2 - I read that some people have issues with their GPS? Is that a manufacturing defect and only present in random units?
3 - Does anybody know how to reflash stock ROM for harpia? Because somebody might want to reflash stock ROM for some reason (not restore from TWRP backup), but wouldn't know how. I don't own the phone yet, but I am planning on buying it, so a guide would be useful to be made if somebody knows how to do it and is willing to make one as a seperate thread

Why though? I think the G4 play is a great phone, not gonna use it for things like heavy gaming after all.

screen will be 1080p
sd 430 chip
releases with nougat ( may get android O support)
will come with updated gps

I can quick whip up a guide soon on how to restore to the stock rom, I've done it several times before. Also, one perk to potentially waiting for the G5 to be released is it might drop the price of the G4 Play a small bit making it a better deal. Also most light casual gaming is very smooth, things such as Alto's Adventure, Dots, etc. I personally recommend it, mainly due to seeing how development is starting to pick up nicely (big thanks to all the debs too). Heck, the 2013 Falcon model of the Moto G is still getting a decent bit of Nougat roms, and it launched with Jellybean on it when I owned one

About the price dropping of G4, that doesn't really bother me, because I just want to buy the phone ASAP to stop using my old replacement phone! I also like the fact that the phone has official Lineage ROM status
I've watched some videos of gaming on the phone and the frame rates look high enough! :good:

Just got the guide completed, here's the link for anyone who wants it. Make sure you don't get the Amazon or Verizon variant because currently I don't think there are any methods of unlocking the bootloader right now. I don't have an problems with my GPS signal, it seems there must just be the occasional bad unit.

A lot of phones are shipping with GLONASS disabled on the GPS chip. That's why the GPS sucks outright. This is Lenovo's problem and they themselves have no idea how to fix it. So far, I've only heard of a Moto G5 and G5 Plus (no play edition), but if Lenovo makes the same mistake, they'll run the entire product line into the ground.

Thank you so much for this. I really haven't been hesitant in the past but with this phone I'm a bit worried to dive right in.. This should definitely help out.

Yes now I think I have got a bad unit. 15 days are over and now I know Amazon will refuse to replace. Though I would go for replacement of the gps device. I am facing some serious problems with it.

Anything to know before buying the - ZE552KL - version of the Zenfone 3?

So my LG is dead, and I came across this phone.
What attracted me was the looks of it, it really looks nice! (and then it had some nice specs as well )
*But, it only has 3000 mAh battery, so I wonder how this phone does on a daily usage? I came from an LG G2 D802 with 3000 mAH as well, but smaller screen. So what do you think about the battery life, and if you have any other device to compare it with ?
I am planning to buy it on Aliexpress, but before I buy, I want to know if this phone has - like many other devices a "Chinese" version that the sellers on Aliexpress flash ROM on before shipping? Or this device has actually only 1 model? I also saw that Asus has an official store on Aliexpress so I am less worried, but still

Hi verynoob,
ZenFone 3's CPU is Snapdragon 625 (14nm FinFET) which has good battery life & good performance thanks to Adreno 506 GPU. Well ZenFone 3 has 2 versions (ZE520KL & ZE552KL). Both has same CPU but the difference is the RAM and storage. I have listed the specifications below:
ZE520KL: 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM, 5.2 inch Full HD screen with 2650mAh battery capacity
ZE552KL: 4GB RAM + 64 GB ROM, 5.5 inch Full HD screen with 3000mAh battery capacity
*Note: Different market/region, different RAM/ROM configurations & different LTE speeds & bands
If you buy ZenFone 3 from China/Taiwan/Japan, most probably the seller will change SKU to WW (which means no OTA upgrades and you can only update your device manually)
And ASUS just released Android Oreo for our device

i think is a hardware and policy things, dont worry you can still upgrade it manual if you aint got ota, zen3 worth to buy ?

Haha. Usually, ZenFone 3 that comes from China will use CN SKU and Japan will use JP SKU. On the other hand, the serial number is attached with the SKU. Once the seller changed to WW SKU, ASUS can't provide you updates. So, manual update is only way to upgrade firmware.

Thank you, it does seem worth to buy, that's why I'm so skeptic before buying it, because from some reason I never heard of it before, until I accidentally encountered it on Aliexpress. And I dont know anyone who do know about it
It seem too good, even has USB-C, Gorlla glass, it's IPS+, and a great camera, and it's not too expensive. (Although 3000mAH isn't the best comparing to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4).
It has to have some flaws! Come on guys

So, would it make sense to buy it right now? Here in Italy I could get the ZE520KL from amazon at 220€ ( 273$ )

One thing you should take a look into, if you're planning to use Custom ROMs on this phone you will be disappointed, since not many ROMs available for this phone and not so many devs are working on it either (no offcial ROMs for it if I'm not mistaken).

The better version (5.5 inch with 3000 mAH is on 250-260$) right now on Aliexpress if you wish
And for that little price difference, perhaps you should consider the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017, which some of my friends have, and it looks great, great screen, great battery life. I had a Full HD Lg G2 on a 5.2 inch display, And the A5 is also FHD on a 5.2 display, yet it looks better in my opinion, and battery life is better. I dont know how Samsung does it, much better battery life with the same capacity

It's OK I've used my LG G2 with the stock ROM ever since, I just don't have time to mess with my phones currently, although it is fun

Need some advice buying this phone..

I have been thinking about buying this phone but am unsure when i read so many ppl have problems with the Oreo update. Is the 7.12 that comes with the phone at least stable enough so I wont have any real issues? I dont mind staying on 7.1.2 as long as there are no problems with it, but I wouldnt want to buy this new phone and already have problems with it to make me want to return it...

ive got no problems at all with mine mate, the camera is a bit rubbish, its not horrible but not great but everything is great and im n the latest oreo build

I listen to music, play Clash of Clan, Clash Royale etc and have no issue so far. Some ppl have hissing issue while some not (I'm one of them, maybe I dun have perfect hearing). If you like low light photography probably not recommended.
The reason I chose this phone over Meizu M6 Note bcoz I reckon there is room for improvement(just gotta be patience) and it's much cheaper with the same specs during 11.11 Sale. If you like photography, maybe can consider Meizu M6 Note as the price has lowered, and the downside is that you may not get any customized ROM and frequent updates.

P/s: I'm still on 7.1.2 ... I'll never be the first to update nor buy new gadget, I'd rather wait and read reviews =P

thanks for ur feedbacks peeps! I guess ill probably buy the A1 and stick with 7.1.2 until Oreo gets more stable in the coming months. i dont wanna rush it and mess up my phone, possibly brick it, only thing im worried about cuz then thats $230 down the drain..
how is Mi's support? are they good and trustworthy? seems like Oreo is taking them some time to get some critical bugs fixed like the battery drain etc. Cant be that hard/long to fix these things..??
btw to update to Oreo do i need to do such things as unlocking bootloader, rooting, etc. things that void my warrant, JUST so i can update the phone? or is this only necessary if i want to install a custom rom? I forgot androids cuz ive been using a Windows phone for the last 4 years but its time to go back as Windows mobile is dead.

Only for custom ROM man. Otherwise just update it from N to O without problems.
And if you want Google Cam you'll need to root your phone. But first look what pictures you have with stock camera and decide later if you want Google cam. I'm fine with stock camera but I don't take pro pictures with a phone. For that I have a camera.

Oreo Release for U Ultra Single Sim?

Does anyone know when Oreo will be released for the single sim model? I can see that nearly everyone else has it already although there seems to be some problems too. I'm in Aus btw if that matters

Im in perth bud and nope we dont know yet but im sure its when they fix the issues for single sim

An HTC guy said on twitter it should be fairly close. He couldn't give a specific date but I think this month the update for uhl should role out.

I hope they will publish it soon.
Could you please tell me if root and twrp work on single sim model?

You knew when you bought the phone that it wasnt htc 1st priority based on its flop. Other phones didnt get it long ago, so its not only htc.

My first impressions from the update are positive. Neutron player is now working in high resolution audio mode, google camera mod is more stable and performance is same like on nougat at least in geekbench 4. Will make further tests in the upcoming days and see how it goes.

Nothing for me in UK yet

Oreo update arrived on my U Ultra - single sim, from Amazon Spain.
I did a factory reset and reinstalled everything, now I'm gonna charge it back to 100% and see how the phone behaves.

Also update arrive in Romania on Orange carrier... And a question, need to reset phone for better performance ?

I did a reset just in case, to get a clean slate

I just wiped the cache, so far no issues.

I did not wipe cache or reset anything and so far do not see any performance difference compared to nougat.

Such a nice phone LG G6 is but it makes me so sad and angry that Android 10 ia launched and we are still waiting for pie. If LG doesn't have enough software developers to deliver proper updates then why keep launching new phones? Just stop!!

I've long since left LG mainly due to lack of support and unlockability. Will never be getting another LG phone again and hope that LG is listening as its not too late to let LG6(DS) owners have control to unlock their bootloaders and able to install custom roms. Shame as hardware wise was pretty good.

This is disappointing. If they don't have the resources to customize each operating system version to match their skin, they should stick to stock in order to give timely updates. The lack of feature updates for this phone is extremely frustrating.

In my opinion, there's a 98% chance that the Android 10 wouldn't be even released on the G6 anyway, because Pie is already a second major update for G6 and most of the time, manufacturers don't release more than 2 major updates.

My samsung J5 2017 has android 9 and my G6 is on android 8.0 ! what a shame for a flagship phone?

well, forget about the android 10 update, I couldn't get the pie yet. and really curious, when is LG going to provide the 9 for my country? for my G6 device? when are they going to feel happy enough? they supposed to release the 9.0 for the europe countries, but for Turkey it's still a mystery...
not only that, but I no longer can use the stereo microphone feature, only on videos, but on the voice recordings, no. I did my best to solve this issue, even contacted the LG Quick help team, and they said only search for an LG Service near you, they can discover this problem. and I did it once, i've sent my old phone there and the only thing they did is to install a stupid rom on my device and they supposedly repaired it. so I don't wanna watch the same senario anymore. it's already clear that this microphone issue is acurred by the 8.0. what a irresponsibility, I don't know. and one last note is, i'm regret to buy a smartphone from lg.

Im still ok with it
For me it is still top phone, snappy and all except the battery is getting a bit weak after 3 years.
With gcam, youtube vanced and adbolck fast + all usseless apps disabled it is as good as any today flagship.
Lg is slow with updates but with pie i have no need for 10 right now.

Lg don't even allow non-us or Europe phone's bootloader to be unlocked! Why would you guys expect them to support your device, they are not releasing only 1 device like apple
