hi.
can anybody please tell me how can i downgrade the bootloader of my galaxy s8? its been updated and since then i cannot install android 7.0, i only can use 8.0.0 which i don't really like it.
i want to downgrade the bootloader and install 7.0, or, if this is not possible i just want to reinstall the current bootloader, i think it has some problems. i tried to downgrade it once (not knowing if it possible or not) and i got a fail message in odin. i'm that type who doesn't like errors at all and i just want to reinstall the bootloader corectly. thx
p.s1: sorry for the category of this post, but i'm new on forum, just made the account so it wont let me post anywhere else...
p.s2: sorry for my english, it ain't that good.

I have searched the whole web. but, I haven't find the solution to downgrade the bootloader for Binary 6. Well, my phone's OS is dead after upgrading to pie. So, apparently the only way for me and to others who are facing the similar issue is to wait until someone releases Binary 6 combination firmware for SM-G950FD.
Good news: It's easy to get your phone running if your bootloader is not upgraded to binary 6. Cuz, Binary 5 firmwares and combination files are available out there and they are 100% working unless your MB is dead.
Note: I have flashed following stock firmwares successfully through ODIN [INS-G950FXXU6DSK9-20191231094010 and INS-G950FXXS6DTA1-20200120123810] yet no luck. Can't boot the OS. Tried to root the phone, cant able to flash the custom recovery. Nothing just works.
Someone, please tag me if ever finds U6 combination file. That's the only hope to bring back my phone to life.

I have Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SCL22 from au japan.
I have unlocked it before using service mode (*#0011#) when it was on Kitkat 4.4.2.
But after I updated it on Lollipop 5.0 I cannot unlock it using service mode because there is no menu anymore it is just end.
Is there any other code or way to access service mode.
Any other way to sim unlock my phone? THANKS!
Same problem here
Any solution pls
SCL22 on Lollipop
Same problem here, cant access the Service Menu and Can't use any sim in the Philippines.
Please somebody help us.
Probably found a solution in a Japanese forum. Though I haven't understand it fully (with google translate), but it can be something like this.
Do not upgrade the firmware from your phone (If you already did, then you can re-install it again with following procedure).
Instead download the official SCL22 Lollipop firmware from sammobile.com or somewhere else in your PC.
Extract the firmware and add "ServiceModeApp_RIL.apk" in /system/app/ directory. Probably we need to google a bit on how to rebuild a firmware. A starting point can be http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2138885
Then install the firmware using Odin.
After installation, follow the unlock instruction for Kitkat 4.3, which I think you know already. They are also available in the Japanese forum too.
http://www.neko.ne.jp/~freewing/android/au_scl22_galaxy_note3_sim_unlock/
Note: The ServiceModeApp_RIL.apk download link is given in the Japanese forum. Or I think it can be extracted from the Kitkat 4.3 firmware files too. Once I followed this post (http://allthec.blogspot.com/2014/11/how-to-root-samsung-galaxy-note-3-scl22.html) to root my SCL22 Kitkat 4.4.2 which is specific to SCL22 only and very easy to follow, this should work for Lollipop 5.0 too, if you are interested to root your device. But rooting the device will not unlock the phone.
I haven't tried it in my phone yet. Can any of you try it and let us know how it goes. Hopefully it will work!
Awesome
Thanks tutul.net, I will try that out.
And the translation is terrible so I'll try with the little japanese I can read:
First Method:
・Using odin flash SCL22KDU2FNF7
・Unlock using the SCL22KDU2FNF7 method
・Dont upgrade past SCL22KDU2FNF7
Second Method:
・Using Odin only flash the SCL22KDU2FNF7 modem
・Extract the old version of the ServiceModeApp_RIL.apk and overwrite the new one (/system/app/ServiceModeApp_RIL.apk)
・Using the Service menu, *#0011#, unlock with the old method
Now that I actually wrote all that out, looks like you were spot on. Thanks again!
I have had a note.3 as a paper weight for about a year now, maybe your advice will finally let me use it.
Also it was kind of biatch to get that apk, so I reupped it somewhere else for convenience hope it helps someone: ServiceModeApp_RL.zip
I'm having trouble with this and it's getting me really frustrated... did you eventually get it to work?
can you just flash the modem? isn't the modem supposed to be .bin file?
if you were able to successfully rebuild the rom with the fix, it would help me greatly if you can upload it somewhere
any help is appreciated
Did anyone manage to do this?
Basically you need a Linux base PC to rebuild a tar.md5

have you try to unlock using custom firmware for scl22 5.0..
ive already done it and its working..
can i downgrade from 5.1.1 N910CXXU2COJ5 to any 5.0.1 ?
If Yes , How can i do so please
Why i want to do so , i want to run MIUI
no one knows !
I'm having the same problem here. After the OTA update to COJ5, Odin always fail to flash any ROM before COJ5 (device display the message sw rev.check fail device 2 binary 1). Also, all the root methods that worked on COJ4 stopped working in this new version, always resulting in a infinite bootloop forcing me to reflash COJ5 in Odin. I even went to TWRP and completely wiped my phone (including system) but still coudn't install any previous version (installing the SuperSU through TWRP also results in infinite bootloop now). Did anyone find a solution for this yet? I'm guessing that this won't be a problem for just Galaxy Note 4....

Well, while [5.1.1 COJ4] can be downgraded to 5.0.1, [5.1.1 COJ5] can't. The problem may be exactly the bootloader that cannot be downgraded through ODIN. I don't believe that any common procedure will work for this downgrade. We will likely need a different approach.
I also read in some forum that while Odin won't work anymore, TWRP (or CWM) still will. So this leads to other two questions:
* Is there any place we can download stock roms in recovery format instead of ODIN's?
* If not, is there any way we can convert Stock Roms from ODIN's format to TWRP's?

if that is the case get a backup from your friend or someone with the same model like you and make sure they have a kitkat or 5.0.1 version
I have the same problem, after updade coj5 I can not downgrade to kitkat 4.4.4
@amidsal and @kirbiii, did you try this and get it to work? If so, how did you do it?

Sadly no. I'm still believe that the best (if not the only way) right now is through JTAG.
Excluding direct access to the internal SD Card, the only way to overwrite the protected memory in the device is through the bootloader, which is protected itself.
I did managed to downgrade my note 4 N910U from 5.1.1 to 5.0.1.

bro can u please upload ultimate kernel v9?i have searched almost everywhere but i cannot find
So Last night I decided to Flash the 5.1.1 update to my Note 4. I made a full nandroid backup via TWRP
before I updated. Well, I updated successfully, but soon found the method I was planning to use to root had been
withdrawn and could no longer be used.
So I thought I would just run TWRP and restore the back up I made and go back to 5.0.1. Well the restore seemed to work, however now I'm stuck in a
bootloop. I just get the Note Logo and then a reboot. I tried flashing SuperSU via TWRP (as my previous setup was rooted) However
that hasn't helped.
Anyone got any ideas?
did you flash the latest COJ5 build of 5.1.1? if so then there is no way to downgrade as the new bootloader in COJ5 build is locked.

Yeah, it was that build. Damn.
(Man, That gives me the sh!ts. I searched for the difference between COI1 and COJ5 and could find anything.. Grrrrrr.)
Was the COI1 build locked as well?
EDIT: it appears not.
Suppose flashing the COI1 over the COJ5 will do nothing?

Well i dont know about COl1...all i know is that once you update to COJ5 there is no way going back to any previous backup or firmware...not even via ODIN as it has locked the bootloader. You are not alone many people have complained about this here in the previous few days but there is no solution for this. Just flash stock COJ5 via Odin and you will be able to get your phone to working.
Yeah I did that this morning. Back on 5.1.1.
Wouldn't mind so much if there was root / xposed.
COI1 is 5.1.1 but apparently not locked Bootloader. So I assume its too late for me. Mine is now locked.
But SO ANGRY! Saw the two updates and tried to Google the difference between the two, and couldn't find anything so went
with COJ5 as that was at the top. Kicking myself for my stupidity, and Cursing Samsung for locking this.
Thanks for your comments. Help has been much appreciated.
I can not flash over recovery when I try to flash the recovery will start again and again, please help
I was able to flash the latest TWRP without any issue, so I'm not sure how to help you..
I guess my biggest concern is whether I will be able to Root on 5.1.1 with this new crap bootloader.
I'm Ok with running Stock.. But Root is a deal breaker for me. Anyone know if this is being worked on?
Can someone please explain to me the importance of updating firmware?
What exactly is firmware that only Motorola can touch?
Why can't this be included while installing a ROM?
Does Motorola somehow have the capability to touch a certain partition that we cannot?
If you flash official Motorola stock ROM, how does it differ from flashing custom ROM?They cannot do the same thing?
Lastly, if the Samsung galaxy S3 is already running 7.1, then why must we update "firmware"?
I know for a certainty Samsung stopped pushing updates long ago for the S3. Please help I'm very confused by this! I've never known to do this in all my years of flashing yet you all keep mentioning it here! Only thing I've known to flash outside of ROM was the radio/modem/baseband whatever you wanna call it. And that was a flashable zip.
How can old phones get new custom ROMs if there are no official releases for current "firmware"? Thanks all! Links and input appreciated!
Sent from my Moto G4 Plus using XDA-Developers Legacy app
Updating the firmware is necessary because the firmware brings a newer version of bootloader and for it to be compatible you need the latest version of bootloader (B1.03 right now)
Other phones need firmware or driver updates too. Sometimes they can be baked into the rom or an additional zip. It's up to the manufacturer how they deploy drivers.
Also the well known sim on/off switch is a driver inside the modem. And if the manufacturer don't release the source you cannot see the changes and need the stock rom/files to flash them prior the custom rom to get newer drivers.

I m looking everywhere the stock room of G955U with bootloader level 4. If anybody knows where to find it. I m trying to install the stock rom but whatever i tried didnt work binary 4>1 so i think that happens because the phone has later version of bootloader than the files that i try.
