I've always gotten 2 days at least per full charge. I loaded P DP2 and battery usage did not change. However, DP3 drains the battery like an open fire hydrant. I'm now getting only 22 hours per full charge. Anyone else notice this change in battery usage?
You used to get a true 48 hours off the charger all the time? I got 27 hours off the charger with 4.5 SOT which is great for me.

Sorry for the double posting.
That last screenshot is with DP3? That's a pretty significant drop in off the charger and SOT.

Yes. Most times I find the device shut off with no battery left. I hope this is something that can be fixed in DP4 due in the next week or so.
I don't think it's the Dp3 that causes your problems. I'm with Dp3 and flash kernel and it's by far the best battery life i ever had. Try finding the culprit with better battery stats and if that doesn't work i'd suggest a clean install.
My first rodeo with DP3

I think I know the problem: dp3 enables adaptive battery which for me caused massive drain. Turning it off got me back to normal battery usage. According to others, people who had adaptive battery on before dp3 didn't see a change, but those like me that didn't got terrible drain. One other note is that the release notes for dp3 mention battery life regressions so I would expect at least slightly worse battery life than dp2, though currently I'm not seeing it.
Interesting. That's obviously the opposite of what's intended for that feature. I have yet tried without while in DP3. With DP2 and it's issue of turning off Adaptive Battery automatically the last week or so, I did notice worse battery.

It was suggested to me that keeping adaptive battery on would eventually result in better battery life, but the drain was so bad I never bothered trying.
@EeZeEpEe: Yes, the last 2 are DP3. As you can see battery usage is getting worse.
I'm going to turn off Adaptive battery and see if that changes anything.

Had no effect and would not stick.
Turning off Adaptive Battery wouldn't stick? Sounds the reverse of the issue DP2 had. It wouldn't stay on the last 2 weeks.

I'm running DP3 rooted Magisk 16.4.2 beta with Flash v9 latest kernel, facedown, 3hrs later, phone is still at 99% battery. I find this phenomenal. Also noted, before even putting Flash kernel on, even the stock kernel/OS with DP3 was getting really good battery life while surfing/setting up apps etc. Big improvement over 8.1 Oreo IMO for me.

I can confirm that battery life is alot better after disabling adaptive battery on dp3 (me too upgraded to android dp3 from oreo 8.1)

I've experienced similar issues just with Android Oreo during the 8 months I've had my Pixel 2 XL. I also got 2 days (with like 9 hours screen on time) at the beginning. Now I get much less. It's just something you have to deal with I guess. Just last night Android System and Android OS both used 6% for a total of 12% in just 6 hours. I've never gotten an update from Google that actually fixed battery life issues. At best an update doesn't impact battery life at all and that's just monthly updates. Major updates always make it worse. At this point I just expect from major updates. I'm not expecting any different when Android P is officially released.

Wow, that's pretty bad. Worse than Oreo. Even with my much worse battery life than when getting the phone the battery life you show would still leave me with like 15%. Brand new that kind of use left me with 40-45%. If that's what I have to look forward to I'm not interested.
I'm hoping this issue will be corrected in DP4.

I couldn't find a thread about battery and SOT, so here it is.
Battery life is one of the most important things in today's gadgets and even if it's often up to what kind of apps and usage pattern you have there is still good to find a baseline to benchmark your own battery life against.
Please show us your battery life, SOT and any findings you have about what to do, and not, to maximize it.
If possible , please use gsam battery monitor and post screenshot. Gsam is a great tool and will also show you parts of what's going on energywise. Root is normally needed for more granular reports.
Thanks!

It's still a very early firmware and hopefully it's possible to find what's draining.
Looking forward to it, but sad news if it's the same for everyone.
Thank you!
First cycles with all initial syncs were getting me about 6:30 hours. After a few cycles, intensive usage (very little gaming, but lots of browsing, twitter, FB, sports timer, some camera etc) I am getting around 8:45. I noticed that changing brightness from default auto (too dark for me) to manual +2 (very bright) doesn't impact battery life much. I think the main drain comes from the 810 and theming.

Theming is known to be able to drain.
Is there a "stock version" that don't drain and is it possible to measure?
When it comes to the SOC, I imagine that's mostly up to Qualcomm and HTC to fix.
Actually more around 8:00 screen on with 45' screen off. Note that I disabled FB and Twitter feed sync, and configured location services only on one Google account and did not use theming on these cycles.

About 8 hours of SOT with more than 50% brightness sounds really good, even if you turn location and stuff off.
Can you upload som statistic about what is taking battery and SOT?
Thanks
8 hours is quite consistent with the reviews, e.g. Engadget:
In the standard Engadget rundown test (with a video set to loop endlessly while the screen's set to 50 percent brightness), the M9 stuck around for eight hours and 19 minutes -- a decent increase over the original One M7, but far short of the 11-plus hours we squeezed out of the M8 last year and the 10-plus hours the G Flex2 put up. That seems abnormally low, especially considering that the M9 did just fine when it came to average daily use: It regularly hung around for 13 to 14 hours of continuous work use (including a few spells as a mobile hotspot during press events) without batting an eye.

Also in my experience 8 hours with the screen off will drain 10%. This is without the phone doing much and WiFi only as I don't have a SIM in there yet.
Coming from a first gen Moto G I don't feel too concerned.

True, but most of those test is normally about looping a video, web-script, on 50% brightness.
I you just got the phone and using it in a mixed way 8 hours is pretty good. I never had 8 hours on the M8, even when reading books with flight-mode on (weekend in another country, don't want to get ruined
But... I also have close to 200 apps running god knows what in the background.

No one said they had 50% battery remaining after 8 hours of SOT. They were talking about the screen brightness being set at 50%
I think you've misread that. It's 8hrs SOT with brightness at 50%. Not remaining battery at 50%.
Here is mine so far tonight after 2 full drain and recharge cycles.
It seems the system itself is a big impact on the battery. Need a lot more work on the firmware.

I think this is the only encouraging thing anyone can say right now.
We know that the M8 is capable of great battery life. The M9 has a bigger battery than the M8 so hopefully the firmware can improve.
As apposed to the S6 where the battery size leaves the battery life nowhere to go but down.
I've been testing a Verizon version with all the test software on it so it's hard to gauge battery life. My main complaint about the phone is its slow charge rate. Takes hours to charge

I used an Apple iPad charger which gives out 12w/2.1a. It still took nearly 5hrs to charge my dead phone to full power.
My iPhone 6 plus with the same charger takes about 2.5-3hrs to charge a dead phone.
Charging m9 with out of the box charger from 12% takes me about 2 hours and 15 minutes. I'm in France . Don't know whether this is the 'quick' charger or not.
Also, power history graph crashes if I try to launch it while charging

I just wanted to get some feedback on everyone's experience with battery life so far.
Good? Bad? Terrible?
What is your experience so far?
Battery on S7 Edge is phenomenal for me. I get over 6 hours of SOT with sync on, brightness on auto, BT on, location on, 70% WiFi and 30% on LTE.
Always on Display off and most Smart features off.

My battery life hasn't been that great so far...
Ranging from 2 1/2 to 4 hours SoT...
Not sure why exactly, I have been disabling apps directly from the Applications Manager and disabled most Smart Features as well. No Always on Display as well. Rarely use location and bluetooth, so I only turn those features on as needed.
Only a few Edge panels active.
It heats up at odd times, especially when using my GearVR for 30 min max - pops up a message and says it needs to cool down.
Sometimes it also stutters and lags especially when typing - it's odd.
Thinking about returning it but I'm going to try factory reset and a few other options as well before I return it.
I going to compare it to my previous device, and it is horrible. I used to have an iPhone 6+, could go all day from 6AM to 11PM without the need of a power outlet. Now with the S7 Edge by 3PM I start looking for a charging cable as my battery shows only 37% left. No changes on usage pattern whatsoever, same amount of apps, etc. Its just not good, the only good part is that It charges faster than the iPhone, but I travel a lot and I was able to watch 2 movies while on a plane and still have 60% left at the end of the flight, the most recent trip I just watched 1 movie and the battery was down to 47%. I don't play games, just watch Youtube, facebook and the occasional snapchat, I don't even use the camera that much.
Stopping by from TMobile. My battery life also sucks. I get 3 to 4 hrs screen on time. I don't get how people are getting 7 hrs.
"when askin' for help, appeal to people's self interest, like looking out for you it's good business "
Just to give an update on my situation...
So I reset my phone through the settings and then through system recovery and it seems to be running much better.
I haven't gotten 7 hours SoT but I've gotten between 4-6 hours consistently - depending on how heavy my usage was.
I think I could easily get 7 hours if I let my battery drain into the single digits but I always charge around 20%.
Being able to get up to 6 hours SoT with 20% battery left is actually not bad at all.
I haven't been able to get more than 4. What do you think reseting the phone does?

What build number is current for ATT S7 edge? I am on Verizon and we are on PB5. Battery life is terrible and we have the same complaining on our threads. Good news, TMO is pushing out build number ending in PC8 that has fixed the battery drain problem on their SD820 variants. So, hold on...fix is just around the corner. On the same build number...
It only improved by factory resetting the phone twice (through settings and recovery) and by fine tuning package disabler pro - I think I was disabling way too much (I read that's not good).
If I'm being honest, it's still not as impressive as I thought it would be. With 3600 mah, I was expecting much more.
All that being said, I'm getting between 4-6,7 hours SoT - so I'm okay with that.

I've been using Package Disabler Pro since I got my S7 Edge...
Battery life was terrible in the beginning and then I kept fine tuning and fine tuning and fine tuning until I eventually reached some good battery life but it wasn't consistent.
Then I tried the GearVR and it installed some more apps and battery life started to suffer again.
I wasn't sure what the issue was exactly so I kept fine tuning and adjusting. I read online that Package Disabler Pro can actually impact battery life if you disable too many apps.
So I went back and only disabled a minimal number of apps... Still battery life was back and forth... Some days okay but other days battery drain would be awful.
So just for fun, I uninstalled Package Disabler Pro and manually went through and disabled each Application/Permissions through the Application Manager one by one (System & User Apps).
Now my battery life is phenomenal!
Seriously, I am getting about a day and a half off one charge (almost two days) and a SoT of between 6-8 hours consistently <- obviously this depends on how heavy your usage is.
I just charged my phone today with 5 1/2 SoT @ 25% battery left and 1 day 12 hours since last charge.
Very excellent results... So if others out there are having issues, try uninstalling Package Disabler Pro and doing it manually. Sure it takes time but the results have been amazing for me.

Are you guys having Android System battery issues still?
To pinpoint which service within Android System is causing the most wakelocks without Root, you can use this app (Wakelock Detector Lite) & adb to view the stats.
Here's the link to the Play Store app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector.noroot
After you install the app, go into Settings > Developer options & turn on USB Debugging.
Then connect your phone to your PC, open adb, and type:
adb devices
Then
adb tcpip 5555
Now you can view your wakelock stats without root!
My number one wakelock within Android System is GpsLocationProvider_ex. It prevents my phone from deep sleep & Doze.
The only workaround is to turn off GPS until needed.
Please share your findings.

Finally got my battery life to where I'm happy. GPS is off and sync is off because I don't ever use it, other than that there's about an hour of Spotify listening in there. No battery saver modes or restricting background data. The only things I'm doing is disabling AT&T crap and running the newest Greenify beta 2.9 beta 2 (not hibernating any apps) I'm using it for aggressive Doze. The new beta (not on play store) let's the phone go into Doze in about 10min vs an hour AND ignores movement. So if you have your phone on a bag or pocket normally it wouldn't Doze because it isn't sitting still but the new aggressive feature let's it. It's awesome, here's a link if interested. http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/greenify/beta-greenify-2-9-beta-1-feb-5-2016-t3308200

I've had one battery since I bought my phone in August 2015
Over the past few weeks I began noticing much less standby and screen on time as before.....
I looked for any rogue apps that could be causing the drain...
I contemplated whether it was the new v20e and f updates..
I then got two official LG batteries from am Amazon seller for $15 (out it curiosity really)
Any now my battery drain is GONE.
I didn't realize I could have battery degradation so soon.... I've used the official charger for 8 months and a certified Qualcomm quick charger for the last 2 months
Not sure... But possible that I crossed 400 charge cycles on my original battery... As I use it as my primary smartphone and primary camera (mirrorless got relegated to the box)
Maybe the marshmallow battery drain is really decreased battery capacity?
Anyone else experience anything similar?
This also makes me wonder if phones like the Nexus 6p really have a shorter service life than I thought.
I hope LG keeps trying with what is now their exclusive feature of removable batteries. Not too impressed with the friend modules so far.... But I think I'll be buying the lg360 cam asap once it's compatible with my g4.
Same here!
Got the phone on May 2015. Battery life started to get worse with first MM update.
I used to get about 4-5 hours of screen-on time, now I get about 2-3 max.
Sometimes I need to recharge in the middle of the day(never happened before, even with moderately heavy use).
I'll get a new battery as well and post results, thanks for bringing up the issue OP

Same situation here. Flashed 5.1, but still have max 3h SOT.
One first charge cycle with new LG battery
Will report back tomorrow maybe
Obvious difference already
GPS seems the issue for me
Battery life was good on lollipop. After the marshmallow update, started having significant drain. Did a factory reset, was slightly better. After analyzing for a bit, noticed massive GPS use, mostly in play services. Turned off location, and now use it only as needed. Giant increase in battery life.

Had the bootloop so MB replaced 506-->601.
After flashing v20f I started to experience battery drain (Android-system), it was caused by my Fitbit charge hr bluetooth connection.
Turning off bluetooth and only turning it on when I want to sync my Fitbit stopped the Android-system wakelocks.

Yes
Back to 1% drain on wifi overnight
And 4 hrs sot
I could see the battery percentage drop every few minutes of screen on with the original battery
So more that worth the $16 I paid for 2 new batteries
I really wasn't expecting to see a difference as my initial battery is now 10 months old

Not sure... But possible that I crossed 400 charge cycles on my original battery... As I use it as my primary smartphone and primary camera (mirrorless got relegated to the box)

Depends at which point you recharge.
ideally up to 90, back on at 40. Trying not to go below. With my 3+ yr old tab tab i've mostly followed that regime now and still can get almost 8h sot. 1500 cycles possible.
if you charge to 100 and then again at 5 & 10. Those are deep discharges which will decrease battery life sooner so around 300-500 cycles you see less battery life. (see table 2)
hey, it just might not be possible to do the former and this is why replaceable batteries are best.
This also makes me wonder if phones like the Nexus 6p really have a shorter service life than I thought.

There is a catch here, the 6P isn't the easiest of devices to service. it gets a ifixit score of 2 (!). So a battery replacement is going to be involved and cost appropriately.
I hope LG keeps trying with what is now their exclusive feature of removable batteries.

Definitely and the problem gets exacerbated with quick charge. Quick charge isn't good for batteries but everybody loves it.
QC 2 tries to get as much charge as it can up to a certain point then tapers off. Its more stressful than QC3 which tries to get as much as the phone will allow.Subtle difference.
It's possible with quick, fast, turbo whatever charge that people will require to change batteries sooner than in the past.
Just update to MM yesterday. My phone is just 2 days old so I have nothing weird to report about battery. Last night, I left my phone at 40%, after 5 hours of sleep, my batt is at 39%. So I guess this is a pretty good one. I also play games for 20 minutes and got 5% drain only.
Usually the battery drain after updating to mm is caused by fast dormancy.
U have to disable it.
Go to the hidden menu, type *#546368#*815# (replace 815 with ur model number, so 812 if u have the 812 model etc)
Then go to field test>Modem settings>PDP setting>0 and sellect fast dormancy off.
Reboot phone and you should be fine
This worked for me, try before u buy a new battery
Definitely we talking about battery degradation. Same usage, same condition, disabled MLT, Fast dormancy, etc etc etc... I am not new in Android world and LG phones. This is the result after first charging of my new battery. That was impossible with the old one. Result was 3h SOT and only 15% to 20% battery left on LP with the old battery. Now i have 3h 40 min SOT and 44% battery left. Usually i have 25 to 30 min SOT from 100% to 90%. Today from 100% to 90%= 1h 12 min SOT. If this is not improvement and proof for battery degradation...
PS: This is close or equal to my initial result, when the phone was new.
Could you send me a link to that battery that you have ordered?
Sent from my LG-H815 using Tapatalk
This is original LG battery, which i bought from the store of the official LG importer in my country and unfortunately i can't provide you a link. I presume that on Ebay you can find original battery and may be cheaper than mine (25€).
G4 dual models are better than others i think , i usually get 4:30 hours SOT with wifi on and sync and one day standby on my H818N dual sim model.
This is the final result with the new battery after one charging cycle. Considering my usage and my results with the old battery, i am absolutely glad from my purchase.

Same here.
But do you happen to use a quick charger?
I used a quick charger for only 2 out of the 10 months that I had mine.... I'd like to think the quick degradation isn't due to that

I didn't use a quick charger even a single time, only charger from the box of the phone.
Overall... My device have two super weak spots: bootloop problem from the last week, and battery that lasts only 10 months...
Oh, and image retention/ burn in/ bla bla display...

Noticeably worst than .575 and this is the worst firmware by far, for battery although everything else except that is stable. Lollipop 5.0 is the best one for me, I could get more than 9 Hours SOT and 2 to 2.5 days battery life with it. 5.1.1 started to make my phone's battery worsened because of battery drain overnight (10 to 25%) and I could only get at a maximum of 1.5 days battery life. With Marshmallow .575, battety drains overnight is reduced to ~6% and I could reach 7h40m of SOT with 1 to 1.5 days of battery life but average SOT is around 5.5 to 6.5 hours although memory management is severely worse. With .291, multitasking issue is gone but I could only get a bit more than 6 hours of SOT at maximum and average SOT is at 4.5 to 5 hours, I hope this is not my battery that is degrading, just the software (although my D6653 is 1 year 3 months old), I could drain my phone's battery that It could run only half or full day even if I only use it for 10 minutes of gaming. I don't know, maybe I just use my phone while it's very hot because I'm very busy these days.

It's because of Charging Optimization Sony added to this new MM Update! You can turn it off and go back to previous battery life!
But Charging Optimization is good for your Battery's longevity!

Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you all this, but I did all those with Battery Optimisation turned off all the time.
Then...try reflashing the latest MM firmware or repairimg through PC Companion. Hope that will work! Or You can root your device for better battery life.

My battery life got worse after the last 6.0.1 update to 23.5.A.1.291. I already did a software repair from the Sony software on Windows 10, so everything was cleared.
I often see the GPS icon in the bar, while there are no active GPS programs running. It look like the same issue with the Xperia Z where the GPS was also running too much in one of the last firmware versions. It looks like the Google Play-Service is consuming a lot of energy and running always in the TOP 3 of applications.

Does anyone have the same problem ?
^
I also have that one problem, my Z3 has these apps that screw my battery (google play services and mostly google things)
Oh yeah, one more thing, I forced stop and cleared data from some apps in my phone two days ago. Since yesterday, my phone's battery has more than 6.5 hours of sot and battery performance just got much better than two days ago and before that day.
Hi there,
I was getting great battery life when i was using android 6.0 MM . My screen on time was about 6 hour or more . I recently updated to 7.0 and have tried many touchwiz custom ROMs but they all give maximum 4 hours screen on time with same usage and setting. Its quiet annoying especially when google claim that every new android version is more power efficient than previous when it actually prove as worse in comparison to previous version as far as battery is concerned . Why they lie every time as witnessed this plain lie from moving lollipop to MM and now from MM to Nougat ?
anyone with same experience ?
Yep
I got 6h-6 1/2 sot with mm stock and on nougat Superman ROM I get 6h sot average, no complaints here dqb7 seems to be much more stable
Nougat has decreased the battery life. Didn't get the best battery life with MM, but Nougat is worse
MM was pretty good for me, but clean flash to DQAS UAE Nougat gives me about 6 hours of SOT, which is a lot more than I was expecting from this phone.

I am also using superman ROM but significant drop in battery compare to last MM superman ROM..My usage is still same. I turn off sync ..always on 4G ..display 40 percent
I am giving it some time to settle but if it dont give me 5 to 6 hour screen on time then i may downgrade ..

I don't turn off anything major except NFC, I did notice when I used Superman ROM 2.1 with super stock kernel my battery was only 4h SOT so when I flashed 2.2 I chose stock kernel and now as is well, I keep my brightness at around 30 percent and use a dark theme
On Nougat DQB3 rooted / debloated / SOT 5hours --> left 47% battery
Drain during night (22:00-06:00, on Wifi, mailsync on, a few Wahtsapps, AOD off) 2%
My battery life has gone to pot on my S7 Edge. It was already getting pretty bad on Marshmallow, but since moving to Nougat I'm lucky to make it through a normal work day without it draining from a full charge to being almost out of battery. For example, right now it's showing that the device has been on battery for ~6 hours and I have an estimated ~6 hours of battery life remaining. While 12 hours may seem okay, the device has been mostly unused for those 6 hours. When I look at the primary battery consumers, I see:
Android System 5%
Android OS 4%
Screen 4%
Google Play services 3%
Device Idle 2%
Gmail 2%
...
Basically nothing actually taxing the device, but yet my battery is draining like a sieve. The device is less than a year old, so it shouldn't be battery wear. Also, the battery life seemed to take a big hit after one of the OTAs a few months ago. I was hoping that Nougat would give it a new life, but if anything it seems worse.
I've considered doing a factory reset and may still do that, but since I haven't rooted this device (and don't really plan to), setting it back up is a serious PitA without something like TiBu.
Oh, and I've used EZ Disabler to debloat the device, disabling just about everything that I can.
Any thoughts on how to get this thing back to a full day device are greatly appreciated!
My battery life is on par with MM. I did revive a lot of bloat however and have a lot of services switched off, but no more than in MM.

I definitely highly recommend doing a factory reset if coming from mm to nougat, your battery will be world's apart better
Nougat would improve your battery life, because of the Resolution scaling. im using my phone just 1080

Doesn't make a difference
Before doing a factory reset, try just clearing cache in recovery. That will resolve a lot of issues without the hassles of a factory reset.
I'm getting pretty good results so far with Nougat compared to Marshmallow (Stock or S7 port ROMs). It got better in my case, and I'm getting 6h+ SOT very frequently
Battery can get little better by installing free " material black theme" from theme store or by using Nova Launcher but still nowhere as good as it was on MM

Helios 7.5.3, with stock Helios kernel and Naptime
I did a full factory reset on my phone this weekend. After restoring my apps through a combination of the standard Google backup/restore and Helium (for Amazon AppStore apps), I'm still seeing pretty poor battery life. I probably need a few more days to get good measurements, but with my phone sitting on my desk in front of me where it should be mostly idle, I'm still seeing a pretty steady battery drop over a relatively short period of time. As before, I look in the battery stats and don't see any major offenders. The top entries are Android System (3%) and Android OS (2%) with everything else at or under 1%.
I'll keep an eye on it over the work week to see if in practice it's better behaved, but right now I fear that it's looking about like it did before the factory reset.
UPDATE: Well, I'm glad to be very wrong on this one! Now two days after the factory reset and restore, the battery life is MUCH better than before (even MM before updating). Admittedly I didn't use the phone much yesterday, but whereas previously it would have been pretty low by 5-6PM, I went to bed with ~25% battery remaining last night without plugging it in once throughout the day. That was about 16 hours off the charger with ~25% left. This week will be more of a test since I tend to use my phone much more heavily throughout the workday, but right now things look very promising.
After motherboard change due to defect and N 7.0 update I've changed the resolution to HD and got 1 more day stand-by. Everything is ON just GPS is set to batter save.
Really happy!
