All Calls Identified as "Private Number" - Wear OS Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently moved to a Wear24 from a ZenWatch 3 (sadly a MASSIVE improvement in every way besides appearance), but suddenly all my incoming call notifications on the watch display as Private Number. They show up fine on the phone, and I feel confident that when I initially setup the watch they were showing up properly, but now I just get no way to identify the caller on the watch.
Any tips on something obvious I might be missing besides a full reset?
Specifics, if needed:
1. Wear24, unrooted stock, fully up to date on 2.0.
2. Pixel 2 XL running Android P Beta 2/DP3

I am seeing this as well with asus zenwatch 2. I went so far as to reset the watch and set it back up with the same result. I wonder if it has to do with permissions. i have checked to make sure the wear app has all the proper permissions but still "Private Number" shows

Same thing *just* started happening on my Huawei Watch Gen. 1. Haven't tried a factory reset, but it's interesting that this issue is popping up for us all of the sudden at the same time.

Same issue here. Pixel XL 2/Huawei Gen 1

moto360 2015 too

I've got a ART5005 and this is doing my head in. I was using a SW3 with no issues and still no issues. Are people on the Android P beta? Might sync it with another phone to see if I get the same results.

same issue with pixel 2 xl and ticwatch e. phone app on watch will display 'name of contact' missed call but private call whilst ringing.

Same here Pixel 2 XL with Huawei 1st gen. Running P DP3

Have a feeling it's Android P DP3, that's when it started happening for me too
Pixel 2XL - LG Urbane

FYI, yesterday after a reboot of my phone my watch suddenly wanted to pair again and failed. The reconnect function in the Wear OS app wouldn't work. I eventually restarted both devices, opened Wear OS again, hit reconnect, repaired successfully, and then the Wear OS app asked me if I wanted to allow the watch to make and manage calls. I answered yes, and my Caller ID on the watch has worked perfectly since.

Well looking at your comment, i went and opened Watch OS app and i had the same prompt about allow the watch to answer/reject calls. I hit allow and now it's working

What is "Watch OS app" . Did you mean "Wear OS app"?

Recent issues?

Hey everyone
I got a nexus 5 and using a Galaxy gear live.
I think there was an update the other day to google services and I think since then the watch has been having issues.
I get notifications and everything fine
But when I try to say text my friend Justin
I go OK google. Text Justin mobile. Say my text. It transcript it fine but then says I didn't catch that. And does that every time. I will say hey what's up. It will show that fine in the screen but then all of a sudden it will say didn't catch that
Anyone else having that issue at all?
At least it's not just me then! Same thing started a couple of days ago for me too. Using the LG G Watch R, it now won't "show me my steps", "set a timer for 50 minutes" or acknowledge what I want to say in a message even though it's got it up on the screen. Must be a software bug as I've reset the watch and reinstalled Android Wear on my phone. Still gets my notifications through so it's just a matter of waiting for a patch I suppose.
Weirdly enough, I can't reply to texts (I use Hangouts) but I can dictate replies to Whatsapp messages so it must be a google thing.
I suspect it's a server-side issue as it suddenly happened to a lot of us (though seemingly not all) around the same time. It's similar to how voice dictation of location-based reminders stopped working for some people for a few days a couple of months ago. I do find it alarming, though, that the primary and intended method of interacting with the watch can simply go offline for days on end without a word for Google.

Ya. Seems to be working again fine without issues now. Was odd

Unfortunately it still doesn't work for me. Really frustrating
Yesterday's Android Wear app update has solved the "show me my steps" issue but texting is still out of action.

Intermittent Answer Call & SMS error

OK, I've had the Moto X Force (Droid 2 Turbo) for a couple of months now, and some odd issues have arisen.
Logged with Motorola, to no effect/feedback.
Stock ROM, Marshmallow 6.0
System: 24.11.8.kinzie_reteu.reteu.en.EU.retgb
Launcher: Hola v 2.2.3
1. Intermittently calls ring, but no pop up to answer.
There's no way to answer the call!
I have to wait, then look at Call Log t see who's called!
Next call might come through normally.
Some calls, same caller, work, some don't.
No whitelists/blacklists etc. enacted on any app.
2. Some SMS's not arriving (daily 8am text from bank)
Again sometimes OK, sometimes nothing.
I'm sure this is a clashing App, not H/w - any ideas?
Nothing obvious, and the intermittent nature of the fault is REALLY annoying!
Trying to avoid a full reset.
Also, waiting for Marshmallow 6.01 as my Mi Band won't act as a Bluetooth Device for Screen lock purposes (Pairs invisibly) - and 6.01 is supposed to fix this.
Any ideas when this might be released by Motorola?
Cheers

Notifications are cut short / completely broken on some apps.

First time poster here, I recently bought a Galaxy S8 after I became tired of my iPhone and boy, do I love this phone. I have never had so much fun with a mobile device.
My phone is only a week old and was working perfectly until a couple of days ago - one evening, I was messaging a friend on Discord when suddenly the notifications started getting cut short and not showing up in the AOD/notification centre. My notification sound would only play for like a split second, the Discord logo would appear in the status bar for a split second, and then the sound would suddenly stop and the notification was not able to be found in my notification centre. Discord had not received an update, and I had not (knowingly) changed any settings, so I had no idea what had caused it.
Now, I get this with Google Allo as well. And Telegram. And my Twitter DM notifications have straight up stopped working, they don't even make a sound or appear for a split second. I have no idea what has caused this, I've tried reinstalling all of these apps, force stopping them, ensuring that they are not put to sleep in the device manager, etc...but nothing seems to be working. It seems to be getting worse and worse, as initially I only encountered this issue with Discord, but now it's with all of these apps - Snapchat, WhatsApp and Messages are now the only apps on which I receive notifications reliably (for now).
I posted a thread on the /r/galaxys8 subreddit discussing this and found that other users shared the same issue, and even found another thread posted by somebody having the same issues with Google Allo, but nobody has a solution. Is there anything that you guys can recommend? I'm willing to try anything, I'm just extremely hesitant to factory reset my phone as I've finally got it set up how I want it and I really don't want to have to start over.
Thanks!

Fossil Q HR4 - GPS Problems since Systemversion H

Hello everyone,
I need your help. Me and my GF are owners of the Fossil Q Venture Gen 4 and the Fossil Q Explorist Gen 4.
Yesterday we updated the Watches with Version "H" via the tab trick. First everything seems to work fine but then we noticed that Runtastic is not working anymore.
If we start a Workout it closes the App after 1 or 2 seconds. After some searching we find out that this is happening if we have a connection to the phones (galaxy s8) and its location.
If we disable the connection to the phones it only shows the message that the GPS-Signal is low. As soon as we enable the connection to the phone the app closes again.
Next try was google fit. Start a workout with the phone works. But if we try to start it without there is only the message that he tries to find the GPS position.
Same is on "find my device". There is no tracking (vibration and lock work).
It seems that the update don't work on our devices. Is there a known fix for it or the possibility to get back to the 8.0.0 version ?
greetings
Rigo
What? How did you get that version....
Edit. Nevermind
I force updated to H as well just after I saw this post.
Im not having any issues with gps. The weather app picks up my location to load the details.
Maybe try a disconnect. Repair. And reupdate? See if that helps...
Can anyone please provide OTA link/file for the H update?

There is none
Just go to software update and keep tapping the screen where it says no update. Keep tapping rapidly and it will start to download
Well, I tried this more then 100 times the last two weeks and its not working. No update.

Thats why I'm asking for a image
This is surely an issue with h in general. My fossil gen 5 has the same issue. Anyone who said how works fine more than likely is not trying without the phone. So if you use your watch and have your phone with you and start a run and leave your phone, it won't switch correctly back to only using only the watch gps. You will have no map detail at the end and it may or may not even track your distance. Strava won't do anything but count time. Furthermore if you just have the watch by itself and start a run it will only work if you let it sit until it states gps acquired before you start. Once GPS is aquired you are good to go. Can take 5 minutes or more though. Nothing like being ready to go and sitting for a few minutes waiting for a signal. It truly sucks. They have got to fix this. My old wear 24 never had this issue.

Issue - Fossil Gen 6 Wear OS 3

Hey guys,
So lately my watch has been rebooting randomly.
The watch is Fossil Gen 6 with Wear OS 3.
Sometimes it just goes black and i need to force reboot it.
I was getting boot issues sometimes as well, it's stuck on the Google spinning animation with the times.
I tried to factory reset my watch from the watch it self and recovery and nothing helps.

Hey yot2703,
Did you have any success finding a solution. I'm having exactly the same issue with my Fossil Gen 6 with Wear OS 3. Rebooting randomly. Screen blacking out and becoming unresponsive. Was working fine for a couple of weeks with Wear OS 3 and was fine with Wear OS 2. My son has the same watch updated to Wear OS 3 and hasn't had any problems.

So...
I tried a few methods that could lead to a solution, but the issue could come back again.
The methods I tried:
1. Factory reset few times from Recovery - No success.
2. Emptying the battery to 0% and keep the watch down for a few days and then charging it to 100% - Worked for a week after another reset, then the issue persisted again and it got lot worse. My watch won't boot at all.
My brother owns Gen 6 as well with Wear OS 3 and he has no issues at all.
I talked to Fossil support and they told me to send it back to them for replacement since the issue coming from the hardware.
I haven't sent it back to Fossil in the US since i don't want to pay huge shipping fee, but the Warranty is global so talked to my local warranty provider and they took it for inspection and they might replace my watch.
i'd say talk to your local Fossil store or the one who provides warranty in your location.
P.S. - I saw people on Reddit that sometimes it does the same reboots on WearOS 2 as well.

Thanks for your reply. I'm in Ottawa Canada and there is no local warranty provider. You send it to a location in Toronto and they in turn ship it to Dallas to fix or warranty it. One of my son's watches buttons stopped working and I've sent it in. Expected to take 5 weeks. Disappointing customer service in my book. I'll see how that goes before deciding what to do with mine. May just cut my losses and move on.

Problem is i like this watch overall, i really want it to work.
You probably have local Fossil support.
Try to mail : [email protected]
Thanks. I will email them...and I agree with you...I was quite satisfied with it prior to these issues.
just fyi...the email they use is [email protected]
did anyone get this working in the end?
I contacted Fossil at [email protected]. They recommended draining the battery completely then recharging to 100% a few times. This did get rid of the random rebooting and it was fine for a few weeks but now the battery is draining very quickly. I'm going to contact them again and expect I will need to replace the battery.
