I just got me new Oneplus 5 and my carrier supports wi-fi calling but only on a very restricted amount of Android devices like Galaxy S6/7/8 so no official support for Oneplus phones but is there any way to force the activation on the 5 with an app or something else if you have a rooted device?

Wow, that sucks if it's true. Do you know if it works on unlocked versions of these phones? If it doesn't, it could be something the carrier added.
Just to rule out the obvious... You need to manually enable WiFi calling on OP5. It's a toggle switch in the "SIM & network" section in the settings menu.
If that doesn't do it you might try editing /system/build.prop and changing ro.product.brand and ro.product.model to a known working model.
No setting option to enable it is there on the OnePlus 5 but same Sim in an S7 has the option to enable!
I will look at the build prop
Let me know if that works.. ?

Tried the build prop changes for an S6 and it still did not activate the required settings for wifi calling!
Surely there is a way to do this?

I'm hoping this too !
IMS dictates WiFi calling configuration. Hopefully you can spoof the device into thinking it's an approved one for your network?
I have the same issue on my networks in Canada. It's restricted to just a couple devices and when I did the build.prop edits I got the options but when I turn it on nothing happens as in Canada we need to accept a user agreement for it and that never comes up for me to activate it. So I either need to do that on an approved phone or live without it

What did you edit in the build prop file to get the options to show up?
If you could give the exact entries that you changed and to what then that would be very helpful.
Thanks
I have EE WiFi calling on me 1+5 and I'm rooted? The device deffo has if because you can get a VOWIFI status bar icon....
I think I enabled it on my sim prior to root though.... Dunno if that makes a difference as maybe registers again IMEI? I don't see why root would make a difference though

It is not root making a difference it is you would probably need root to enable you to activate something on the phone if your carrier is not supporting the OnePlus for wifi calling!

If your carrier won't support WiFi calling then you won't get it. Simple as that mate!
Edit: My carrier EE doesn't officially support the 1+5

My carrier does have wifi calling but only on iPhones and certain supported Android phones like S7 etc so I am looking for a way to get it to work on the 1+5

Some people have reported it enables wifi calling as well.
This is a lot more in depth so may not work and you may brick your phone. (may work on the one plus 5)

Ok we are getting closer so thank you!
I added the following from the first post you referenced to my build.prop:
#ifdef VENDOR_EDIT
persist.dbg.ims_volte_enable=1
persist.dbg.volte_avail_ovr=1
persist.dbg.vt_avail_ovr=1
persist.dbg.wfc_avail_ovr=1
#endif
Then this allowed the VolTE and WiFi Calling setting to show up and I can activate it but when I try to make a call it still seems to go out over Cellular network and no icon in the status bar to say that it is active etc.
This is the details of my carrier and wifi calling instructions etc.:

I did not try the second post as it seemed to be very specific to a couple of carriers so any other ideas?

I suspect there are some firmware files missing which it needs to use wifi calling, you could do an adb log cat to a file whilst making. a call (you have to be tethered to your pc) so you can post the logs here to see if anyone can help.
You could try using Hangouts as it uses wifi for calling etc
I'm on AT&T and I got my phone a few days before I actually switched to it. When I went through the settings without a sim inserted, I know I saw an option for wifi calling and enabled it. Now with the sim card in there, there is no trace of this option. I will be watching this thread now, as I've been pondering paying for a microclimate, but if this gets figured out, then I'm good to go.
Anyone having this issue? Today I got an update I installed. And since then 4 phone calls during the day People on the other side can't hear me. As if my mic isn't working. But it works after and before these random calls. Anyone else?

I've never experienced this issue before or after I updated my phone to 8.0 ob1/ob2/ob3 and now 8.1 ob1.
Are you using third party phone app or caller ID blocker? Do factory reset might resolve the issue. Good luck!

It does not affect all devices. It affects devices on certain carriers. There is also some evidence that it can start to affect those that it didn't in the past, quite at random. In my specific case I use Bell Mobility Canada and this issue is only resolved by disabling the Enhanced 4G LTE Mode. Just as an FYI, this mode is what allows the phone to use VoLTE on carriers that support it. If your carrier does not support VoLTE you won't have this problem regardless of this feature being enabled or disabled, from what I've noticed so far. It appears to be an intermittent issue due to some sort of incompatibility between Essential's radio/modem FW, a software bug, or both, and implementation of VoLTE on certain carriers.

On Oreo3, I have mic issues too. Speaker phone and Videos Calls they can't hear me but I can hear them.
Then updated Oreo 8.1. It's fixed my mics on Video Calls. So now Google Duo hangouts and video calls works. But regular speaker phone calls still not working.

There is obviously a problem with the modem firmware on the Essential, making it incompatible with Bell VoLTE. Unfortunately since Essential doesn’t officially support Bell we will be lucky to get a fix for it.

Did you try to factory reset the phone?
I have had this issue. Solved it with a restart but then it would return. I have disabled volte LTE option as mentioned and hopefully it rectifies.
I am on Virgin Canada as carrier, part of Bell. Glad I found this and will email tech support of Essential as well. Other than this issue the phone has been great.
Same here with Virgin Mobile Canada, had to disable Enhanced 4G/LTE and that seems to have fixed it.
I am on Virgin (Bell) having the same problem - one way speech path, them not being able to hear me on outgoing calls. I just disabled VoLTE and have full functionality. Thanks for the tip...
After Feb 2018 security update, I have issues with the network.
4G connection is freezing and I get "No Sim Card (Emergency Calls Only) notification very often. I can't make calls nor someone can call me. I need to restart the phone to fix it.
I haven't experienced this before the feb 2018 security update.
Anyone has experienced those issues? How I can fix it? Or I need to wait for the next update?
I don't have the problem, but have you tried removing the SIM card and reinstalling it in both SIM slots?
You don't say whether your A1 is stock, rooted or other, but I would assume any suggested solutions would be based on that info.

Have You tried setting the 'Preferred network type' to 4G and 3G?
Does it behave same regardless of 3G/4G setting?

I'm trying this now to see if issue will persist.
It may be a longshot, but I noticed one of the updates from the Playstore today was Carrier Services. I am not sure what it does, but if you did not update it, you might wish to give that a shot. If you did update, it might have broken something on your phone/carrier. As I said, I don't have the issue, so it is hard to guess what the problem might be and there is not a lot of info as to what this app does.
--KB
PS If anyone knows exactly what Carrier Services does, could you please enlighten us? Very little info on it when you search.

Do You have any possibility to test with another SIM-card?
This just to eliminate the SIM-card reader(s) in phone...
If possible please test both slots 1 and 2.
If problem still persists it seems to a HW error/failure...

I do not have another sim card for sadness, today I will test the second slot. Anyway, I've contacted the tech support from the shop I've bought because I still have a warranty.
Thank you anyway for the help, I will write update later.
Update:
Seemed that sim card was a bit dirty, cleaned up, restarted the phone several times and now it's fine (for now). So, definitely isn't hardware or software issue.
So i have been running pie beta for months. With the official release update, i lost all LTE. I have wiped, rewiped, reinstalled every way i can figure. Even downgraded back to oreo and allowed it to ota to pie. Nothing will fix this. Its just when i make calls. I have LTE for text, and web. When i dial a call it reverts to 3g, H+, or just doesnt call, it fails. This is on stock or custom or gsi. Any suggestions would be awesome. I literally have to swap my sim to another phone to make calls. Short of calling essential, i am so frustrated and dont know what to do. Any ideas? Anyone?

What you have going on there... Is a lack of VoLTE.. I have the same behavior on AT&T...
Afaik... It's a carrier thing... My guess is your carrier doesn't know what device you have... Or forgot... Or some identifier changed...

I found what the issue was. It was the ims apk Missing from /vendor/app.. and flashing stock didn't replace it bc I didn't specifically erase vendor beforehand. I bet a gsi screwed it up..I was sure it was the mobile too
I bought an international s7 edge since the American Snap models have locked bootloaders. I flash custom roms and stuff, so Exynos was a must for me. However, since my phone wasn't made for the T-Mobile network, it's missing a few things
1) Video Calling results in "Unable to make Video Call to this number"
2) I have no way to toggle Wi-Fi calling, a feature I want to use since T-Mobile is charging for it
3) I have no idea if VoLTE is working or not, since there isn't a toggle under connections or the phone app
I remember on my TMO s6 edge+ most of these features were simple floatingfeature.xml codes that needed to be enabled. Unfortunately, I no longer have that phone and don't remember the codes, or know if adding these codes to an international will solve my problem. I would greatly appreciate any help you could offer, and thank you for reading!
