OK I have had my T-mobile Wing aka HTC Herald since last April.
Just a few days ago I encountered a problem with my lcd. And I would like your guys feedback if possible before I purchase an lcd replacement.
My problem is when I slide open the wing my screen starts to fade, (almost making it look like a negative from a picture) after that it starts to fade to different colors.
Now the problem persists when the phone is closed, however if I tap the top of my wing and hold it the screen becomes normal, but once I let go it starts to fade again.
I would like to know if any of you experienced this with ur phone and if a replacement lcd screen will fix the problem or am I sol?
If it helps im running my wing on Open Touch v6.0 WM 6.1 Build 20273.1.3.3
Thanks in advance.
LCD problems
Hello,
I too have some weird LCD problems and instead of creating a new thread I thought of posting in this one.
For the past few months, whenever I get a call or resume my phone from standby mode using the power button the entire screen goes white or sometimes it has green or blue colored lines all over them. I have to keep on pressing the power button few times to get proper display. Also whenever I open the qwerty keyboard the display goes blank. Since I am out of warranty Tmobile is not ready to replace the phone and I contacted the HTC customer service and they told that the display unit and some hardware stuff is gone and it needs to be replaced and will cost a minimum of 170$ and will increase if they had to replace some other hardware.
Please note that, my screen is NOT broken and the touch screen too works fine. Recently the display has gone completely blank or too faded even to see whats there in the screen I could barely see the today screen.
I searched and I did not find any similar issues that other folks have faced. Since the LCD and the touch screen is not broken replacing them is not going to fix the issue, correct? I was using open touch and recently I updated the latest official Tmobile release of ROM 6.26.xxx. I also tried the hard resets too.
Any other ideas/suggestions will be of great help for me. Thanks in advance.
I am having some similar problems as well, but my problem is much more severe. My screen is completely black and it just happened this past weekend. When i slide the phone the screen used to flicker but now it black as well. Phone works fine but is useless due to the fact the the screen is out. I remember seeing a program where you can interact with your phone via your pc when something was wrong w/ your screen (cracked, broken, etc.) I have searched the forum but to no avail. The program was very simple and effective. I plan on replacing my phone but would like to retrieve some info off the one I have. I just need that program! Anyone please HELP US!

thanks for the info
I have been searching the forums and have not found anything with this particular problem. After replacing the screen, everything works as far as function but the screen has no darkness to it, everything is really really white. Can still see some things but overall this isn't right. Anyone has some tips or advise let me know! Thanks in advance!
Update: Took new screen out and put old cracked screen back, everything back to normal. Maybe different types of screen or versions or whatever. Website where ordered said for AT&T Tilt. We'll see how returning goes.
So i've had my Nexus 4 for just over 2 years now. It's stuck by me through thick and thin, i think this might be the end though.
Anyway, so i picked the phone up at around 2 am this morning, it had been working perfectly all day up to this point. So i picked it up, the colours on the screen are a bit weird. I change what's on the screen and the colours remain weird, so i do the standard thing of a reboot to see if that clears it up. This is where the big issue comes in, when the phone turns on again, there's a 1 cm wide black bar on the left side of the screen. Nothing appears to affect it, but sometimes it randomly appears greyer than others.
The rest of the screen has the same weird colours as it did before i restarted, kind of muted, and moving light areas on the screen (like app icons) makes bars of lighter colour move across the screen with them.
If i didn't know that the phone hadn't been dropped i'd be saying that the screen was just broken right now. But i flashed CM12 (was on the latest PA beta) and when the phone was restarting the whole screen flashed working for a split second before going to its broken state again. This hints at the issue being software related, especially given that it initially happened with no physical damage occurring to the phone? When thinking about this, the colour issue reminds me of what happens when you installed CM11 with the wrong kernel and it looks messed up...
Anyway, I think my phone is dead, and i'm posting here in case someone has some genius idea as to what on earth killed my phone.
I'm pretty good at doing stuff with the phone, so can flash and install whatever, hindered only slightly by missing 1 cm of the recovery menu. I would take pictures, but normally i use my phone as a camera and...... If any more info would be useful then please ask!
Thanks for any help, ideas or input in advance!

Hello , I have only just signed up here today, so i apologise in advance if i have posted in the wrong area.
I have a sim free samsung galaxy note 4 sm-n910f, running android 5.1.1, unrooted as i dont understand the process nor benefits, im happy with the phone as it is bar one problem.
all updates are upto date from samsung and play store.
Never had any problems with the phone since i bought it, but recently encountered small annoying problem i am unable to solve, despite looking long and hard for a fix.
When i use social media on my phone, and look at any photo/image, i ouch the image to see it larger, which works fine, but whenever i try to zoom into a certain point on any given photo, the photo snaps shut.
i used to be able to zoom into any give photo, and be able to drag around to stay zoomed at the same zoom level.
This proving to be a pain to me as i am severely partially sighted, and find the note 4 to be a great device for my needs otherwise, with the large screen.
Is anyone able to help me with a little basic advice please? its ruining my viewing experiences
WARNING: Little bit of a rant on my part. Been watching this happen for the last year or so.
WHY does no one understand that the second screen is NOT a notch? Its function is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT.
PLEASE don't tell us "The second screen is working!" when it is set as a notch. THAT'S NOT WORKING.
The whole point of the second screen is for it to act as the notification light on other phones, but better, because it doubles as an ALWAYS ON display.
If it's set as a notch, it's not ALWAYS ON. If I wanted a notch, I would get a pixel 3, or heck, even an IPHONE. (no! never! how could he say that?)
PLEASE fix your posts everyone. Tell us AT LEAST that it's PARTIALLY working. That would clear it up. I don't want people to say: "Yay! Second screen! Let me render my phone useless for the next week to get this new ROM! Wait, WHAT!? It doesn't work!? AUUGGHH!" And waste their time and sometimes lose their data just trying the "working" ROM.
P.S: Don't tell me Im overreacting. I mean this to be a rant. Not a personal statement against anyone. Please don't accuse me of this. This is just me trying to get my point across.
Wait a second, let me try and clear up something here:
I thought "always-on display with a notch on an LCD" and "LG V20's second screen" is the same thing. Because LG V20's "second screen" isn't actually a second tiny screen. It is the same LCD as the rest of the panel. Which means whenever it is set to always-on, it might as well lite the rest of the LCD since it consumes the same amount of energy.
I can understand that LG V20's implementation of second screen also aid navigation since it scrolls independently. However, as far as notification goes. The function between "always-on display with a notch on an LCD" and "LG V20's second screen" basically does the same thing, no?
No. Its not that. LG has a second separate backlight section that lights the "notch" separately, allowing it to use practically no battery, yet still act as the "notification light" for this phone.
Edit: This phone has no other way of letting you know that you have notifications when the screen is off. That's why I have remained on stock this whole time. Heck, I'm even using it right now.

Hey if you want the V20's Second screen to work go back to stock. Why cant You just say thanks for all the hard work that's been put into development for the V20?
And BTW it clearly says the V20's Second Screen is now a defined notch that allows it to be active in the LOS 16 thread. I thinks there was some development for the second screen back in LOS 15.1 so u could look there.
Never tried that, set screen as notch ,

I already know this. Did you not read my P.S. statement? Im not saying they didnt work hard. Im not giving anyone a bad rap. Im saying thats not a working second screen. They did work hard. They deserve the praise of even getting LOS to work on this phone AT ALL. Ive just barely gotten into the android hacking space, and I still dont understand fully how these custom roms work. All im saying is that without the AOD functionality of the second screen, you loose a HUGE feature that most people use on a day to day basis.
P.S: Ive even tried the second screen functionality in LOS 15.1. Its buggy and rather odd looking, without any of the crisp, clean interface like LG implemented. Id rather stay with stock for now.
Edit: It also still didn't have the AOD functionality. So, no custom roms for me.
AOD = Always On Display

Wait a second, where did you get this information from? This is the first time I heard of LG V20 having separate backlight between the main screen and second screen. Also in my own individual testing, I was not able to conclusively test that the main screen backlight and the second screen backlight are separate. Can you provide some evidence on this?

If you have a v20, just turn the screen off and look at it. If you turn the lights off in a room or cup your hand over it, you can see where the backlight from the second screen bleeds over into the main part of the screen. I have also been following the development of the custom widget support, and they have discussed the separate backlight there.
Also, the phone uses an LCD. You cant have anything displaying without having a backlight on. When you first turn the phone on, you know how for a second or so, the screen lights up but still looks black? That's the backlight turning on before the LCD layer has anything to display. If the backlight was not seperate, that is what the screen would look like with the second screen on and the phone asleep.
I hope this explains it for you and gives you some evidence for why it needs the seperate backlight.

What you said does appear to be true. Which means the LG V20 is better designed than I gave it credit for. I always wondered why the AOD on an LCD screen still has decent battery and never had any conclusive evidence that the back-lights are separated. Thanks!
Yes, exactly, finally a rant that expresses my frustration.
All due respect, and gratitude to different ROMs and the guys who work hard to make them; but the reason I haven't jumped to LOS 16 is that the second screen doesn't perform the functions that I bought the phone for- taskbar + quick contacts + quick settings (and others). And when LOS uses that space it earmarks all of the 100x1080pixels to a massive notification bar. Who wants that? It's a waste of all that space.
Obviously the modders aren't to blame for this, but LG. However it seems far fewer people here seem to care for that compared to people I've interacted with outside.
@ID000001 Your welcome. Honestly, LG was actually pretty brilliant when they designed this.
@Lebatman I know, right? I have set this phone up for my dad, my Grandparents, and a couple friends, and they all love the second screen. Its one of the first phones where you could just look at the screen and go, "Oh. Its a message from my game. Just ignore it" or "Oh! I got a text! I need to check that!" This didn't come back to phones until the AOD on galaxy phones with the OLED screens. I love it. Its cheaper than a Samsung phone. You still cant get even a galaxy S5 for cheaper than the V20.
