Root same way as you rooted marshmallow. Flash twrp, flash supersu 2.79. everything is the same. it will take a while to boot though be patient.
Flash TWRP in Odin
Flash SR3-SuperSU-v2.79-SR3-20170114223742.zip in TWRP
no its not working......After install recovery stuck in Samsung Flashing logo....
TWRP is making the devices get stuck on Samsung logo....
I think what is happening is that when you install only the twrp the encryption of the device conflicts and leaves in bootoolp. When you install twrp and root , root already comes with a tool that takes out the encryption. But if you just want twrp, as was my case, you should, first of all, on your own twrp, wipe data and then flash no-verity-opt-encrypt.
Having root and no encryption sucks. Think I'll wait

I'm not entirely sure what is going on here yet. I've had the stock firmware randomly stop booting even without modifying the boot image (rooting). Others have also reported that just flashing TWRP may trigger a bootloop (which is weird). I have some ideas what the cause may be, but it will be some time before I can properly investigate them.
The only way I seem to reliably get both TWRP and SuperSU working right now is:
- Flash TWRP (3.0.2-5) to recovery
- Immediately boot into TWRP
- If you were encrypted, format /data (ext4) and reboot into TWRP again
- Flash SuperSU v2.79-SR3 in TWRP
- Reboot into Android
The first boot will take a while if you performed that format, but for me it ultimately completes. Note that your device will be running unencrypted at this point!
Of course, if you format /data, you will lose all your data (including contents of internal storage!). Before I flashed the new version, I used FlashFire v0.54-PRE to create a backup of /data and internal storage to the removable sdcard, and restore that backup after flashing DPLT, rooting, and reinstalling FlashFire. This worked fine for me, and all my settings - including fingerprints and system settings - transferred fine. I came from the first Nougat beta, but I've seen others reporting success doing the same thing coming from Marshmallow. As always, your mileage may vary.
Unfortunately, due to this boot-loop issue with DPLT and encrypted data, it is also impossible to use FlashFire to upgrade the firmware itself to DPLT while keeping root if you started with an encrypted device.
I am not sure if the same difficulties exist with other official builds than DPLT, nor if the same problems occur with any of the custom ROMs based on DPLT. The S7 is my daily driver so I don't like to experiment with it too much
Below attach the required Files, I gonna try tomorrow. If anyone tried now please report update.

You can root but you have to disable encryption. Not a fan of that personally so I'll wait for another solution. If I lose my phone at least I'll have secure power up enabled. There is no bypassing that. There are too many FRP exploits on Youtube so having no encryption and simply a password isn't enough in my opinion.

Since you are rooted, uninstall S Health and install a lower version number which doesn't require Knox.

I have installed nougat btu with Odin.
Installed twrp and rooted my device.
So far I have faced couple of issues
s health app is not working
Security log agent keeps popping up (drives me mad)
And my device freezes and reboots after i open lucky patcher
How to fix these issues

Security log will stop after you launch SU application and let SU to disable knox, it takes me always two attempts, disable, keep trying then i restart smartphone and after restart i try to disable knox again and it works, no more pop ups.
About S Health I'm looking for solution, so far should be enough to install older version set it up and update for new one, problem is that i cannot uninstall old version to get new one working.

S Health is now locked down if you have tripped knox. The only solution is to use an older version.

SuperSU couldn't disable Knox for me after many tries. In the end I just used Titanium to freeze Knox.

After restoring in TWRP and booting to system the correct pattern wasn't recognized, meaning I couldn't authenticate thus rendering the backup useless. Tried all three backups I had of stock or stock-rooted with the same result, all using the same pattern since getting the phone. Interestingly, though, my latest non-stock ROM's backup, which I'd also set up with the same pattern, was recognized correctly after restoring, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with TWRP.
My only way to return to stock was by flashing the full firmware and setting up again from square one. I've made two fresh backups (before and after setting up my stuff) after temporarily setting the screen lock to none/slide. If others have been able to restore stock backups with their pattern security intact, please let us know. Otherwise I'd advise disabling lock screen security before backing up, and not trusting existing stock backups that weren't done that way.
Had the same problem on other phones. Fixed it by deleting all *.key files in ./data/system via TWRP Filemanager.
Had the same problem, I switched to PIN after a full restore. Good to know there is a fix!

Yes, this solves the problem. However, I recommend to disable the lock before doing the backup (and reenable after).
This problem also occurs when you use a multibooting environment. As soon as you switch back to the first rom, the the pattern isn't recognized. It's driving me crazy! Somehow the patterns don't survive a backup or a change such as installing a second rom...

Awesome - thanks!
Got into this little pattern lock-out mess when I restored a good working ROM. Did TWRP full-wipe with System partition to do good housekeeping prior to Restore. Restore worked fine except my Pattern Security feature wasn't working. Flashed your Zip Install - worked great and got me in fine after reboot.
Cool to have your Zip Unlocker around in case this happens again.
Thanks - John
Hi there
I updated today from CM13 which I've had installed for ages to Dirty Unicorn Rom v12 Angler. Files used;
du_angler-v12.0-20180309-1144-OFFICIAL.zip
SuperSU-v2.82-201705271822.zip
vendor-angler-opm3.171019.014.img
This let me in but I hadn't installed GAPPS.
My lock pattern worked, then went to install GAPPS and when got in the pattern says it's wrong even though it isn't. It works in TWRP the lock pattern.
Tried another ROM and get the same problem, I don't ever remember setting a lock pattern other than the one I know is right.
Tried ADB to reset the GESTURES but this does not work.
Also nothing held in the DATA\SYSTEM folder on the device for me to delete.
I don't mind losing my data but can someone please help with what I need to do please?
Also tried a complete ROM install of Linage
lineage-15.1-20180319-nightly-angler-signed.zip
bootloader-angler-angler-03.79.img
vendor-angler-opm3.171019.016.img
radio-angler-angler-03.85.img
Please help
Thank you!!
Did you mount data and system in twrp? After that you should be able to delete the locksettings.db file in data/system from file manager. Also make sure you're using the latest version of twrp

Oh, you've downgraded 9.0.0 to 5.1.7 and then updated to 9.0.2
That isn't a good idea... Anyways, let's see how we can help you.
Is your wife's phone rooted and has unlocked bootloader and TWRP? Anything?

I'm sure the issue is cause of down and updating in a dirty way. You can maybe try again install 9.0.0 then 9.0.2
Otherwise a factory reset is the next option you should consider cause there's no way to wipe separate partitions or backup anything with stock recovery and without root or external help.

NM: I've was able to flash 10.3.4...but my internal storage got wiped out. It's saying I have 105GB of 108GB free...I have backups but my backup is corrupted since I forgot to remove my security pattern...oh well...

HI!
I tried looking in the 255 error thread but couldn't find a solution and was thinking maybe it has something to do with the -32 version of TWRP so I went to the TWRP thread but no answer so here I am hoping someone here can help.
I made a backup however I found out later that I had forgotten to remove my security pattern prior to backup. Don't know if that's the issue but upon doing a restore I'm getting the dreaded 255 error. I also forgot to run magisk uninstall and don't know if that's the issue too (yeah, not a good idea to be working on stuff like this in the middle of the night and lacking sleep).
I haven't rebooted yet fearing I won't be able to get in.
I have since tried running the magisk uninstall (gave me an error - didn't write it down and now I can't see it anymore).
Tried installing magisk again (installed ok).
Install 10.3.4 ROM and that went ok.
Still not rebooted - thinking the install of 1.0.3.4 might have solved my problem I reinstalled TWRP -32 and then tried restoring my backup again. Of course I still have the 255 error.
I hoping someone has gone down my path or have some advise so that I can restore my backup.
Again, I still haven't rebooted yet so maybe that's my issue?
Edit: So, I rebooted and it gives me a crash dump. I can get into TWRP still but tried flashing the full 10.3.4 rom and it completes but it just goes into the crash dump again. I noticed while looking at Filemanager in TWRP all the filenames in storage are jumbled. Does that mean the encryption is messed up and I am hosed? I've tried searching but there's just so much information I'm a bit tired and am hoping someone point me to the right direction and maybe let me know if I can still recover. Thanks
