I recently lost all my APN settings after following the directions in the post linked below. I can't seem to figure out how to add APN settings back in, the little + icon that used to be there is gone, and there doesn't seem to be any kind of third party app that'll allow me to add an APN. I really don't want to completely reflash my phone for something that's typically a one minute fix. Does anyone know how to add apn settings back into this phone? Thanks.
*Edit: This is on the Verizon network.

Okay, I got it fixed. Now I'm just back to trying to figure out why I don't have VoLTE.

Hi,
I have a Samsung Vibrant. As I'm in Australia, I was playing around trying to connect to another frequency via *#*#4636#*#* > Phone information. I set it to AUS and backed out (pretty sure that's all I did). Then I couldn't send any texts .... at all. Failed.
I switched back to Automatic frequency - no difference....
I have re-falshed the OS with Odin, both with the most recent 2.1 release and also with one that is supplied on the xda post "OFFICIAL T-Mo Vibrant JFD ODIN/Nandroid Backup Images" (I'm not allowed to post links) (I've still got this one installed right now). Both made absolutely no difference.
I deleted all user data... no difference.
Now I have a stock phone entirely, that will not send any text messages.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Andrew
I've noticed that SMSC is blank - I tried to set it to the right number: +61411990001, but it just returns 'update error'. So I tried 0411990001. It didn't 'do' anything, but didn't return an error. It disappeared when I backed out and came back in. it didn't fix the problem.
Is there a trick to updating the SMSC that I've missed? It seems likely to be the error??
there is also no information in 'Your Phone number', and I recall that the default way to access voicemail never worked because of 'no voicemail number on the sim card'...... does this all add up to my sim card not having the correct default information? Is there a way to fix this?
....help

Here are a few tips:
1 in mobile settings click apn and make sure there is a green circle on thee right of the name for your apn. If not just tap on the circle once and out should turn green.
2 in mobile settings, click automatic network discovery then try step 1 again
3 open mms app, press menu and go to settings. Make sure auto retrieve is checked.
Let me know if this works or not.

@crazy25000: Thanks heaps, that led me in the right direction to correct the texting issue. I had no apn at all - no options and had to add it manually. I'm not sure that it worked, but perhaps. I did get to the right settings menu to fix the smsc number though, which is great.
I still feel like my sim card is not quite right - there seems to be no default data for the carrier on the sim.
Immediate problem solved though. thanks again.
i have done the same thing while fiddling with my vibrant. sms wont send because the gateway # is blank . what i did was pop it in a friends iphone and type **5005*7672*61411990001#
(61411990001 is optus smsc # yours may be different)
then i put it back in my vibrant and viola!
altho i still cant send or recieve mms..

Glad to great it's slowly getting resolved. If you don't have an apn, click on automatic network discovery in mobile settings and it will automatically generate the correct apn for your carrier. Keep me posted because this it's relatively easy to resolve so don't stress

Hey guys, so I'm totally new to this forum and have not had any experience regarding flashing/rooting/etc., so please let me know if you need any more infos. Thankful for any help you can provide
A friend of mine has recently "upgraded" my Galaxy S3 Neo (GT-I9301I) with Cyanogenmod 12.1 (12.1-20151007-UNOFFICIAL-s3ve3g) and (after having fixed the annoying camera-issue that seems to arise quite often), we have come across one major problem we cannot seem to fix:
WhatsApp and Telegram can NOT send or receive any messages if you are outside of WiFi-range. Within WiFi-range they work fine, no problems whatsoever. But as soon as you go outside and have to rely purely on network access, they just don't do what they are supposed to do. However, all other apps requiring internet-connection work perfectly fine outside of WiFi range (e.g. Google Chrome, GMail, Traffic Information services etc.), so there MUST be network-access.
Here is what we tried in order to fix it (without any success):
- DroidWall: We checked and unchecked and checked both boxes again (always applying the rules), so now the apps should have full access in and out of WiFi-range.
- We uninstalled and reinstalled both apps.
- We went into the App settings and checked if everything was set to "Allowed" instead of "Ignored" or "Always Ask".
- We went into the in-app "Settings-menu" of each app, in order to find any option that might restrict access - we did not find any.
- Simple things like restarting the phone, clearing app-caches, resetting the network-provider etc. did not work either.
So here I am, hoping that some pros among you have an idea how to proceed Thanks a lot in advance!!

Whatsapp needs an internet connection, ofc it want work because you have not an internet connection, if you are out of the wifi range than turn mobile data, be careful it will cost you some money
edit: maybe you dont have good signal
Try to reflash the rom, and check again. Also check if restricted background data is enabled (globally or specifically in these apps): Settings > Data Usage. Click on these apps and check the toggle is switched off and try to switch it on and off again. Also check in the main Data Usage page, clicking the 3 doted menu on the top right to be written "Restrict background data" and not "Allow background data"
Check your APN settings. Maybe a WAP-APN is selected by default. These APNs block Data on some ports. I had the same problem on my device after flashing CM12.1, the default value was wap.vodafone.de instead of web.vodafone.de

That did the trick! You, sir, are a lifesaver!! :good:
alright so im on the echo rom Via the verizon pf2 firmware. Selected sprint during the setup process. I have voice and messaging working. i edited the build props.... still no data. any advice anyone?
google your service providers apn settings and enter them in and if that didnt work after you did what was said i would go back and redo everything and slow down to make sure i did it all in order etc, sometimes a second run through will make it work
i hve them. the keybord im using now is messed up. some letters nd shift key re out.. i will type them up on something else nd post themwen i get min.
My experience is actually kind of strange. When I rooted my phone I actually lost the ability to edit APN. It does not show up anywhere in my phone. I had to edit the build.prop to get it working right. My messaging works but not picture messages which sucks. So I use a messaging app called 8sms and it fixes all my APN issues.
I'm a Canadian Nexus 6p user having some major issues since switching carriers. A bit of backstory -
Previously I was in the beta program running Android 8.1 and using Telus as my carrier. My phone was rooted with magisk and had the pixel mod installed.
Due to some financial issues and being unable to pay bills my Telus plan was cut, so I picked up a Chatr prepaid sim to keep me in service until I get things figured out. After putting the sim in text and call worked just fine but data wouldn't connect, so naturally I go to edit the APN settings. However, I'm greeted by this message when I tap on it:
"APN settings are not available for this user. "
There is no plus button, naturally. The only other option I could think of was to add the APN via adb, but that seemed to be far too annoying. So I unenrolled from the beta program and did a total factory reset to Android 8.0, sd contents and all.
I figured I'd boot it completely stock and try it before installing any modifications such as root or pixel mod. Here's where things get a bit weirder.
When I finish the initial setup and go to APNs, once again the message is there
"APN settings are not available for this user. "
However, this time the plus button to add an APN WAS there. Hitting it brought up the editing fields, but hitting save would not save the APN data, nor would hitting the back button.
However, if I hit plus, quickly enter a bunch of garbage data into the fields, then hit back, the garbage APN would save. After that I have about 2 minutes where I can add a new APN and save it by hitting the back button. After trying enough times I was able to get the Chatr APN data in and hit back in time, and boom, I have mobile data.
Thing is though, after that I went to delete the garbage APN from earlier so it wouldn't be cluttered. However, deleting the garbage one also deleted the good one I had setup and I was back to the error message. So I repeated the process again and now I have data but with a garbage APN in my list.
If it would stay like this indefinitely I could live with it, but the problem is what about when Android 8.1 launches? If I update will it blank my APNs again? For that matter, I'm rather concerned about the underlaying problem causing this in the first place. The only Info I could find on Google relates to a specific problem with a specific firmware version on an Asus Zenfone.
Note: on 8.1 if I put my Telus sim in the Telus APN data automatically loads, but I still don't have the option to add a new one.
I've got the same issue with Chatr on 8.1. No idea what to do except switch carriers. Calling Chatr was no help.
Backup your rom, install latest lineage os, grab the apns file from system/etc. Restore your rom, copy apns file to system/etc with TWRP. Reboot, reset apn, choose your provider and take a look if it's working for you.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=74339251&postcount=76 here's one, no need for Los install. Rename to xml.
I switched from the stock firmware to AICP and all issues are resolved. AICP doesn't actually contain the APN for chatr, but it lets me edit / add APNs at my leisure without any issues or error messages.
The issue I was having must be specific to the stock firmware. Hopefully Google bangs it out soon. I'm likely going to stay on AICP though, previously I was using stock + the pixel mod, but AICP contains all the features I was getting from that mod out of the box (such as night mode, always on display, etc). Plus trebuchet from LOS is close enough to the pixel launcher for me, though I do miss swiping left for Google assistant.
I rooted my oneplus 6t a couple weeks ago. My MMS messaging worked fine before I rooted. Right after rooting Oneplus updated Oxygen. I made it thru updating and keeping my root and Magisk. I have called AT&T and went over the APN settings and they are correct. I also did the *#*#4636#*#* and the tower is set up correct to LTE and also seeing the LTE on my signal strength. Anyone have any idea how to fix this. I did notice after rooting I had to reset a lot of app permissions as well as data access permissions. Maybe something I am overlooking there with a system app that doesn't have permissions. I granted Google Messages as well as my default Textra full app and data permissions. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm not very Droid savvy but I'll give as much info as I can.
Call att and make sure that your SMSC number is right when I got my 6t my texting didn't work until I called att and they told me that my phone on there sides showed as not having the ability to text so they needed to do something on there side and I need to change the SMSC number which is located in the default messaging apps settings at the bottom
I'll try that and let you know. Thank you for the reply.
