Recently, since about a week, i've been experiencing sudden random reboots. Often when starting apps (especially the Camera is a real culprit here, but also Google Photo's). When entering pin-code all seems fine again. and sometimes i can just use the camera like normal. But sometimes it keeps rebooting and the only way to stop it is to quickly turn off battery saver (seems a solution till now for a while)
Searching online didn't really help much, as i found a few people with the same issue end of march also on Oreo update, but no solution yet.
Also the battery indicator seems off. it often drains reaallly slow (85% at the end of the day) and then at a random percentage (like 60%) just turns off. When turning it back on it only has 3%. So it could be battery related.
What i tried:
- Let the phone drain completely, then recharge to 100% overnight.
- Remove all apps installed in the last few weeks + all unnecessary apps.
I don't want to do a factory reset, because our IT then has to set up the Authenticator again which is a pain for them (and i already had them do that a few weeks ago :angel: )
Any tips on how to troubleshoot some more or more people seeing this behaviour?

That sounds kind of like a battery that's failing.
What's the age of the phone? And did you primarily use Huawei's supercharge brick or other methods / chargers? (I ask the second, because charging at 4.5A can be bad for the battery on a regular basis.)
I'd load up something like Ampere and watch the charge / discharge rates. I'd expect a normal discharge rate around 150-350mA, but it depends a lot on what you're doing. (GPS and moderate graphics will keep it up in the 800mA-1A discharge range, the rear camera with just the viewfinder seems to push 1.2A current draw.)
I'll give Ampère a try. I used both chargers but the phone is just over a year old. Nothing to warrant a bad battery already.
Besides that, recent discoveries lead to believe slow charging could actually cause more heat and be worse for battery. But again: it's a bit soon for something like that I think. I'll try Ampère first. But i doubt that's the issue.
I've noticed my phone gets toasty when fast charging. If it's hooked up to any charger other than Huawei's, it tends to stay cool.
And it happened again. More then 50 percent and then it turned off and only had 3 percent

That's what it looks like to me.
Fortunately, the batteries aren't that expensive to find (Google popped up a bunch for <$20), and actually getting in isn't too difficult either, if you want to swap it yourself.
Just to close this topic properly:
The issue got worse, but i was on holiday. Ordered a new battery with a toolkit to replace the battery for 30 euro's.
When i got back from my holiday i notices the battery had already pushed the screen loose. So getting the screen off was easy. Swapped the battery in just 5 minutes and now everything is working great again. The screen used to have some bright spots and those are gone aswell. I guess it was a giveaway of things to come.

Samsung Focus (wife has one too) I use it a decent amount during the day, check emails all the time, surf some, read kindle books, BT on my 35m commute home, etc. Batt lasted all day just fine all day. I always charge it overnight with the charger.
10 days ago or so, got up to unplug it from the charger, and for some reason it would not start, it was dead showing the batt symbol. I moved the charger to another plug (first one is fine though) and let it charge all day, and it finally took a charge. But for the following week, it would be dead by Lunch, every day. I googled "Samsung Focus Battery Problem" and found a few peeps on various sites with the same issue. Tried several things to attempt to fix it. (removing battery, plugging phone into charger, re-inserting battery) Nothing helped. I'd have to connect it to my work PC to give it enough charge for the drive home.
Stopped by ATT shop, they agreed to send me a new Batt for free. I was not warm and fuzzy thinking that alone would help, but it was worth a try (it arrived today) before actually replacing the device.
So after a week of frustration, it was on the charger late Saturday and all of Sunday. Monday (yesterday) I take it too work, and its all fine again? By evening it still had 3/4 Battery. Same today. Weird or what!
I'll save the new battery for some future day, but for now the Phone is fine. Weirdness indeed, was it the phone, or OS or what?
Anyone else run into this?
Disabled feedback
I've noticed notible battery drain especially overnight and during the day with the feedback function in the settings section enabled. When it is disabled, my phones battery last forever...ok so it last till the next day at least, I am a heavy user. The funny thing is that when you soft reset the device the feedback automatically enables itself. I don't know if this might explain your situation. It seems like from time to time my battery seems to drain fast and other days it seems like i use the phone for the whole day and barely make a dent in battery life.
Nope, all settings have stayed the same, it does check my 4 email accounts at various times, I use Cellular Data all day, Wifi only at night (home). Habits all the same. It was a wierd bug, as confirmed by others during my search. Just dang happy it fixed itself.
I ran into a similar situation for the first time today. I've had my Samsung Focus for about five months. The phone gets light usage and has been handled carefully (carrying case etc).
Last night I noticed battery level was being reported as about 20% remaining. Normally I would have expected the charge to be at about 50%. I put the unit on charge overnight and this morning the battery meter was still showing about 20% remaining - essentially no change. I moved the charger to another outlet and tried to charge the phone a couple different times. I cycled the phone on and off and tried starting the charging process with the phone off. I also tried charging from a PC USB port. Nothing worked. In fact I started getting a message that the battery power was low, turn off phone to avoid losing data etc.
I checked on the Net for known issues with Samsung Focus battery problems. There were two suggestions that seemed worth trying; one suggestion was to sync with Zune, the other was to reseat the battery. I tried syncing with Zune first. That didn't seem to make any difference. Then I reseated the battery after I had powered the phone off. When I restarted the phone, the battery meter showed the battery as fully charged.
I don't know if it's a hardware, firmware or software issue, but there were enough reported incidences to lead me to believe that there is some sort of battery related issue associated with the Samsung Focus. If I had to venture a guess, I'd guess that it might be a problem with the battery contact design.

I've been searching various forums for a fortnight now to try and diagnose an SII issue I've been having and Google inevitably brings me here. Unfortunately, the numerous threads on battery drain don't match the problem I've had and the solutions haven't helped.
Around two weeks ago I noticed the battery life on my handset was really terrible, draining in hours. I had been using it quite a bit at the time so assumed this was the cause. However, lately it has been draining within around 6-10 hours even when idle, usually dying completely overnight despite a full charge just before then. I don't have a huge number of apps installed - maybe 20, fairly standard ones like Twitter, Facebook, Amazon, no games and no 'battery defender' style apps. It's not rooted (it's 4.0.3) and I can't root it for other reasons.
The battery drain was a nightmare, basically going from power point to power point just to keep it topped up enough to use and it was draining during idle time and deep sleep. I very rarely ever have 3G, GPS or Bluetooth switched on. Wireless is on most of the time and it generally does have a signal in the two places I spend most time (home and work). It also has a strong Vodafone signal since I'm living in a major city centre.
I tried a few things:
1. Uninstalled all but the most-used apps I had. No change.
2. Uninstalled everything it was possible to uninstall. No change.
3. Installed BetterBatteryStats and CPU Spy. BBS plus many hours of searching kernel/partial wakelocks and so on showed nothing that looked odd at all, certainly nothing taking up a lot of time or regularly stirring the phone. CPU Spy showed it did deep sleep when idle.
4. Factory reset. This included no app installations except BBS, disabling the likes of Social Hub, Gaming Hub and all other stock apps I could. No tethering or wifi sharing, no wifi, no 3G, no GPS, no Bluetooth, nothing running. It was basically a handset sitting there doing nothing. BBS showed nothing odd that I could see but the battery still drains in hours. No partial wakelocks and a tiny number of kernel wakelocks taking up next to no time and occurring a handful of times. No change.
5. I charged it before bed, took the battery out and left it until morning. In the morning it was down at 79%. This seemed weird so I bought a brand new genuine Samsung battery and gave that a try. No change in the 6-10 hour drain but taking the battery out overnight showed no drain now.
6. The weirdest of all. I charged it fully before bed, switched it off over night and it was drained completely by morning. That seems crazy to me. I can fully understand poor software or bugs draining a battery but not when a handset is switched off.
I am lucky enough to be able to get a new handset through work but this issue really annoys me. I took very good care of the phone, never installed anything crazy, didn't over charge it, the handset never got warm at any time, I'm careful with Wifi/GPS/Bluetooth/3G and location services, yet I ended up with an effectively useless "mobile" phone.
Is there anything that comes to mind that could have caused this? Point 5 above made me think it was simply a battery issue and maybe it partly was (with two batteries, how unlucky) but point 6 is just crazy. What could cause a handset to drain a battery under these circumstances?

Take the phone to Samsung Service Centre. No phone should drain that quick when un-rooted and a full wipe has been done

Um...widgets? Some widgets on stock Samsung ROMs kills your battery - I remember AP mobile news is a huge drainer. Try limiting the number of widgets you put on your homescreens maybe?

I sugges too full reflash the stock rom and after count the batter time. If it does not help, it cold be HW error too - maybe it isn't.
My Galaxy Note has been performing beautifully since I got it back in January. I typically get several days out of a battery charge - I'm a pretty light user. Two days ago I powered it off for a couple of hours. After turning it back on I made one short call, then nothing the rest of the day. I think it was indicating about 50% power remaining when it was powered off. That night, I was surprised to see it way down at 15%, so I charged it back up to 100%. I did note that I had left the Messaging application running, but that's all - no wifi, bluetooth or anything like that. Next day I was astounded to see that charge last only about 4 hours (according to the meter). Not only that, but the phone actually felt warm to the touch - something I've certainly never observed before. It was like it was running on amphetamines or something!
I was sufficiently alarmed by this to power it down again, remove and reinsert the battery, and power it up again. At that time it was charged up to about 75%. The weirdness continues - since then, about 10 hours ago, it has been almost locked on 75%. It may have made 1 or 2 calls in that time, but no other use at all. I do not have any of the power saving settings enabled, and I'm running Android 4.0.3.
So the question is - has anyone else seen any behaviour like this? Can it be just the battery monitoring getting out of sync? Can powering it down do that? It would not have bothered me too much if I hadn't felt the over-warm case. I find it hard to see how that could be caused by software, but it's a strange and murky world in there!

Try andosensor and check battery level if its around the normal capacity when charging. Could be battery issue, could be a many things

I did update the OS, but that was a couple of months ago, long before this happened. I observed immediately after that update the battery usage seemed to get worse, but after a couple of discharge/recharge cycles, it got its act back together and has been fine since. That's why I was wondering about monitoring software getting out of whack this time - but couldn't see how software could make the case warm!
No new apps for at least a couple of weeks. I'll certainly have a look at Androsensor, thanks for the reply.
Your phone isn't going into deep sleep. Use an app called CPU spy to check this.
Mine usually recovers back into deep sleep after I reboot my phone.

Check for partial wakelocks. Otherwise, if you're complaining about battery percentage dropping when you reboot, that's because the battery monitor believes that the battery is not as charged as it really is due to high CPU load dropping the voltage.
I see that this has been a known problem here, but here are my findings so far.
In my case
- It shutdowns only when in use
- usually when battery is below 60%
- sometimes when i turn it back on the battery is very low almost 0%, sometimes it's close to the pre-shutdown level
- usually it shut downs again shortly after the first one
- the only way to make it stop is to plug it in a charges at least for a bit
- it never shut downs when connected to the charger.
- usually the shutdown is triggered by switching an app (that's why the ram problem assumption)
So what do you think, is it the battery or the ram?
I'm with the latest update i got couple of weeks ago, and the problems started few days ago, so that might be reason as well.
p.s.
Does the warranty covers just battery replacement? I would hate to turn in the whole phone for a month.

i had the exact same problem. Open your back cover & you'll see your battery has bulge in the middle. Just change your battery & you'll be fine & this is not related to ram. typical samdung quality:good:

[TL;DR]
Phone battery suddenly drains faster than usual, drains to 0% overnight. Problem still persist even after April update and after battery change. Can't find any solutions. Help me.
Hey, so about a week ago something very strange happened to my Mi A1 and got worse overtime. So what happened was my battery went from 80+% to 0% overnight. I woke up confused and just recharged it and didn't think too much. After a full charge, I noticed the battery drains abit more than usual and had to plug it in constantly. Before going to bed I charged my phone to 100% to see if it would drain to 0% again. It did. As time passes the problem gets worst. The phone started getting warm when charging (around 40+°C up to 50°C) then after a while the phone runs warm even when not charging (never goes below 40°C). My phone always used to run at about 30-35°C even when charging. I changed the battery myself because there was no warranty on it but it didn't fix the problem. However it did help abit. The battery drains ever so slightly slower now but still drains to 0% overnight. It still runs warm but now it does go below 40°C (rarely). Before and after the battery change, the discharging rate is about 700mA and sometimes reaches 1000+mA (used an app called Ampere, not too sure how accurate it is). The phone was also warmer than usual when charging even when the phone was off (before and after the battery change). I tried factory resetting to see if that does anything but had no luck. I also tried using a Wakelock detector app to see if there was an app excessively triggering a wakelock but all seemed normal. I even tried downloading a "battery calibration app" which obviously didn't work. So I feel like it's a hardware problem.
Now here's what I did and did not do to the phone before the problem happened. What I did was I do charge the phone quite alot most of the time. What I mean by that is when it hits about 30% I'll plug it in but I never leave it plugged in after a full charge or charge it overnight and I seldom let the battery drain to below 10%. Even so, the phone never got warm like how it is now. That's about all I did to it. Now what I didn't do was, I never tried to install custom ROMs or root/modify my phone in anyway except for the post about how to enable 4G+ which didn't work for me.. My phone is completely stock. I also didn't install any new apps from the playstore or from any 3rd party sites nor were there any updates for any apps installed in my phone. I've had the same apps installed for a couple of months before this happened. I also haven't dropped my phone for a couple of months. I only dropped it less than 5 times from short heights and I have a very rugged case on. I also didn't use any 3rd party chargers. I'm still using the charging brick and cable that came with the phone. I have tried using other chargers that are 2A but no luck. So basically I didn't do anything out of the ordinary prior to this problem.
Just some extra information
1. The hottest part of the phone is at the top right corner of the back. I assume the CPU is there (?).
2. It happened before the April update. It was the same before and after the April update.
3. Phone is running on Android Pie if that wasn't clear
4. The phone is only 10 months old
5. My phone is the Global ROM version
6. Performance wise, its still responsive and snappy. Doesn't lag or freeze or anything.
6. I always have mobile data on and use it as hotspot for my laptop at uni. I have been using it like that for the past 9 months. However the problem happened when I was at home during sem break so I was mostly connected to Wi-Fi.
Sorry for such a long post. I hope somewhere out there, there is someone who can help me or other people that have a similar problem so we can fix it.

In the upper right corner, should be the modem area.
Try holding the phone on airplane mode during the night and monitor drain.
Also, try changing the SIM slot and do an APN reset. If this fails too, try changing your SIM card or if u can, try another operator SIM.
If you changed any value with QXDM PRO , try and put back the default values.
